I am nominating this article for deletion under WP:BIO and WP:GNG. The subject lacks significant independent coverage in reliable secondary sources. Most references are interviews, promotional mentions, or event coverage, and do not demonstrate enduring encyclopedic notability. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tammirex99 (talkcontribs) 13:29, 23 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

No indication that the lawsuits as a group are notable despite each lawsuit being notable(WP:SAL). Originalcola (talk) 19:32, 29 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Delete: These lawsuits are already on Mr.Beast’s page so there is no reason to have two. Boeing747Pilot (Discuss with me) (Help) (MY LORD) 19:00, 30 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Excess insurance (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
(Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

I may not know much about insurance, but I know how to read a reference. As of rev 1277633329:

  • ref 1: can't access the 2011 edition
  • red 2: accessed the book, same ISBN and everything, and page 112 is not about "excess insurance" but rather life insurance - I could find no other mention of the term "excess insurance".
  • ref 3: the III does not appear to have published an article by that name [1], and the reference itself leads to "example.com"
  • ref 4: same story[2], url listed in our article is a fake

With two out of the three references being fictitious, and another not verifying what the content says, I'm proposing that we WP:TNT this article. If somebody I trust rewrites it, I'll be happy to withdraw the nomination. GreenLipstickLesbian💌🦋 18:56, 29 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I'm the one who originally created this article, and I have to admit I have messed up pretty badly here... I've now removed all the sources and replaced them with correct ones, so this should be solved.
What happened: I had written this with the help of an LLM, checked and rewrote the content, then did some copy-editing in a separate tab of my browser to remove the hallucinated sources, etc. But for some reason, I see that I ended up publishing the wrong version, with the hallucinated sources, instead of the corrected one... :S
I'm very sorry about this, and thanks for spotting this! 7804j (talk) 19:59, 29 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
This is why we dont use LLM. ←Metallurgist (talk) 20:18, 29 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome, thank you for doing that! I'll withdraw this now. GreenLipstickLesbian💌🦋 20:19, 29 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I actually think this is still not independently notable. Could you leave it up so we can have the process? ←Metallurgist (talk) 20:21, 29 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
!voting for anything other than !keep automatically nullifies my ability to withdraw, so feel free! I will go back to my default opinion "I may not know much about insurance" for the remainder of the AfD. GreenLipstickLesbian💌🦋 20:23, 29 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yea, I am just asking not to withdraw and we can see what the consensus is. ←Metallurgist (talk) 21:19, 29 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Redirect to liability insurance. Cant see how this is independently notable, and the originator admits to using LLM to create an article. ←Metallurgist (talk) 20:20, 29 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Comment: the fact that I used the assistance of an LLM has no impact on the assessment of notability. As to the content, it should be assessed based on its own merit rather than based on what tool was used to generate it (now that I have resolved the reference issues). 7804j (talk) 18:40, 30 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@7804j, I'm not going to !vote in this AfD. However, I do want to note that whilst I support OKA's mission, the use of Grok in OKA translated articles as outlined here opens up the possibility for errors and hallucinations considerably, as has been discussed in this article's case. You'll already be aware of WP:AISLOP. Whilst not a policy or guideline, it is important nonetheless. 11WB (talk) 08:52, 2 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Can you elaborate a little more as to how it meets our notability standards? Is there really WP:SIGCOV? The very short stub essentially says "We know very little about him, including his name and identity. We can confirm he composed between 1 and 7 compositions." Is this really enough to support a stand-alone article? I'm struggling a bit to see the encyclopedic value of a short stub so devoid of substance. Sergecross73 msg me 13:04, 22 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
We don't normally apply exactly the same standards to medieval and earlier figures as to contemporary ones. The article probably contains everything that is known about him, which obviously is very little indeed. He was considered important enough to be included in the standard reference work, which in itself is probably enough for notability. There are thousands of comparable examples. Johnbod (talk) 13:10, 22 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I understand that its not likely to come across a 2025 New York Timess feature on a subject like this, but I'm also not convinced that mere mentions like that are enough to establish notability in the Wikipedia sense. Are you alluding to some guideline I'm unfamiliar with or something? Sergecross73 msg me 13:22, 22 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
His own entry in the standard encyclopedia on the subject is not a "mere mention"; it's just that next to nothing is known, so the biographies there and here can't be any longer. Johnbod (talk) 18:14, 22 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the clarification. I'll reword my stance accordingly: I don't believe an entry in a standard encyclopedia is enough to establish any sort of notability standards, particularly when said entry is devoid of any real substance because nothing is known. Sergecross73 msg me 19:23, 22 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think notability is substantiated here. I checked GScholar just now and the mentions for Borlet are essentially all the same as the mentions for Trebor (composer) because they're believed to be the same person. Therefore at the very least I think a merge with Trebor is in order, but given that even the sources I can find for that article are essentially "some compositions exist which are attributed to someone called Trebor" I don't think we have notability in a Wikipedia sense here at all, so I think deleting both Borlet and Trebor (which I've also made an AfD for) makes sense. Athanelar (talk) 15:26, 22 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, this is where I'm leaning too. I could technically see creating a redirect to Trebor, which pretty much already covers the (very little) verifiable information about Borlet, but the argument for Trebor's notability is pretty weak too. There's definitely not enough here for 2 standalone articles, though at least Trebor has verifiable information in it... Sergecross73 msg me 16:15, 22 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not against a merge, but you popular culture types need to understand that notability is not affected by whether there is information online or not. Johnbod (talk) 18:12, 22 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Please don't cast aspersions - no one has asserted sourcing needs to be online thus far in the discussion. That's not the reason you're getting pushback. You're getting pushback because you aren't actually citing or invoking anything. You just keep making WP:VAGUEWAVE WP:ITSNOTABLE WP:ATAs. Sergecross73 msg me 19:20, 22 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep: There is the entry in the references section; there are books mentioned in Further Reading. Google Scholar has a considerable number of books with significant coverage on him; they include https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/early-music-history/article/abs/an-episode-in-the-south-ars-subtilior-and-the-patronage-of-french-princes/4F5EA81CC0345A850C971836859832A6 ; https://search.proquest.com/openview/d9810dfdb21e258c9b6bc2f87da5f874/1?pq-origsite=gscholar&cbl=18750&diss=y The polyphonic virelai "He tres doulz rossignol" attributed to him is one of the most notable pieces of the genre. Plenty of other sources exist; https://www.persee.fr/doc/caief_0571-5865_1979_num_31_1_1185 and so on. e.ux 20:04, 22 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
WP:SIGCOV necessitates that the sources in question address the subject 'directly and in detail.'
The first source is about how these Medieval French sources have been preserved, and the latter literally says its aim is only to transcribe the unpublished chansons of the Chantilly manuscript.
To my eyes, the only relevance of these sources to Borlet/Trebor are that he is passingly mentioned within them as composer of some of these pieces, which is pretty plainly trivial coverage. The third source you've linked is a French-language source which I'm not equipped to assess.
Could you be more specific about how you feel these sources demonstrate in-depth, specific coverage of the subject? Athanelar (talk) 20:17, 22 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
They analyse his work -stylistically-; some dwell on his possible identification with other musicians -various authors support more or less assertively and with different arguments the Trebor hypothesis. These are no passing mentions, nor trivial coverage, and plenty of other sources exist. But as creator of one of the most notable virelai of the time, he could, one could argue, meet the specific notability guidelines anyway -like Wikipedia:CREATIVE; it may remain a short article -but it is not that short-;- if everyone agrees a redirect and merge to Trebor is better, it might be an acceptable solution too, but things are clearer this way -and fairer- imv; outright deletion would be absolutely inappropriate, I think; coverage on him in various other languages abounds, fwiw- and please also check the information in https://www.lib.latrobe.edu.au/MMDB/composer/COM065.HTM e.ux 20:53, 22 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Also meets WP:COMPOSER..."Appears at reasonable length in standard reference books on their genre of music." e.ux 20:55, 22 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge to Trebor (composer). I came to this discussion via Trebor, who I strongly believe is notable: see my comments at that AfD. I think Eva's point on WP:NCOMPOSER carries some merit given the inclusion in Grove, so I'm somewhat opposed to outright deletion. However, from my literature review, Borlet clearly receives much less coverage than his doppelganger. There is also a lot of overlap – they may be the same person after all, and as such the vast majority of potential sources with more substantial coverage speak about Borlet in relation to Trebor. I do note the fairly imposing further reading section but, of the Chantilly scholars that speak of Borlet, Plumley, Brown, Goméz, and Reaney all treat him this way, while Earp and Apel (1 and 2) only give scarce passing mentions. So I end up here offering a middle ground with a merge: not on notability grounds or as an ATD, but per WP:OVERLAP. UpTheOctave! • 8va? 22:25, 22 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Here's a quote from A Ballade for Mathieu de Foix: Style and Structure in a Composition by Trebor
"On Trebor/Robert/Trebol/Borlet, see especially Maria del Carmen Gomez Muntané, La Música en la casa real catalano-aragonesa durante los años 1336-1432, vol. 1 : "Historia y Documentos" (Barcelona, 1977), pp. 99-101.[3] The Chantilly manuscript attributes only a single realistic virelai to Borlet ("He tres doulz roussignol"), whereas Trebor is assigned six ballades and no virelais.
Since stylistic differences between genres are at least as great as stylistic differences between individual composers, it would be virtually impossible to make a convincing argument that the composer of "He tres doulx roussignol" was or was not the same as the composer of the six ballades on stylistic grounds alone. No music is known to be attributed either to Robert or to Trebol."
    So two scholars say Borlet and Trebor are different persons. A merge wouldn't be appropiate. 23:41, 22 October 2025 (UTC)~ Itzcuauhtli11 (talk) 23:41, 22 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree. As noted above, I took both the Brown and Goméz sources into consideration when drafting my !vote. The justification for my arguement is not identity, as you infer. Most scholarship on Borlet is related to the possibility they were the same person: this shows they are "related subjects that have a large overlap" (WP:OVERLAP), which is enough reason for a merge on its own. Also, you are misreading the sources. Brown claims it would be virtually impossible to make a convincing argument that [Borlet] was or was not the same as [Trebor] (emphasis added). His phrasing leaves open both the possibility that they are connected or are not, which your conclusion incorrectly parses. Thanks, UpTheOctave! • 8va? 00:05, 23 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. We don't need hard confirmation on this to warrant a merge or mention there, just that reliable sources cover them together, which they clearly do. The complexity of the situation can be covered in the prose. It'd be pretty easy to cover at the forefront of the article too, considering the lack of content. Even the sloppiest of merges wouldn't escalate the resulting article out of stub status... Sergecross73 msg me 00:34, 23 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Merge and redirect to Trebor (composer) - basically I agree with UpTheOctave!'s analysis of the sources, and think that readers will be best served by a single article that covers the composer(s) and the scholarship surrounding whether they are the same person or not. The law is not notable enough for its own article. It has not been involved in any major legal cases or other controversies, unlike the Texas and Georgia heartbeat bans. The law does not meet WP:NOTABLE because reliable sources mainly reported on it alongside other abortion bans in 2023. When reliable sources reported on it by itself, they mostly reported on its passage or it going into effect, rarely any further than that.

The Wikipedia article blatantly violates WP:OR. It has a single source that relates to the law, and otherwise it just cites the Florida Legislature's link to the act itself, as well as an unrelated source that says nothing about the law and is a "page not found." Bill Williams 16:21, 22 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

AFD is not clean up, this can easily be improved upon. WP:BEFORE could easily show that. – The Grid (talk) 22:02, 22 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

That's not my point. My point is that the existing article goes against WP:OR because the content is not notable enough to cite many sources. Most sources barely go into detail on the law or lump it in with other anti-abortion laws. If it can "easily be improved upon" then explain what the Wikipedia article would say. Bill Williams 19:35, 23 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The onus is on you. What exactly is original research if the Florida Statutes (F.S.) is being sourced? Those are clean up issues, not AfD issues. You didn't make any attempt to improve the article before nominating it here. I already cleaned up the citations and long article text within the time since it was posted here. It seems to be non-notable. The sources #2, #8, #9 do not contain any significant coverage. Six of the remaining seven sources were published in August 2025 or later and contain puffery as promotional articles:

On Vietnamese Wikipedia, vi:User:Thichtrunghieu was blocked in July 2025 for self-promoting Phổ Lại pagoda. After that, many sockpuppets of Thichtrunghieu were blocked. Cherry Cotton Candy 16:21, 29 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep - The subject meets WP:GNG through multiple independent, reliable sources with significant coverage beyond routine announcements:
Vietnam Architecture Journal (under the National Institute of Architecture, Ministry of Construction), Sept 2025 - a feature discussing context, architecture, and landscape. [4]
Journal of Buddhist Studies (under the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha), Sept 2025 - a feature on the site’s location, building process, and activities.[5]
The World & Vietnam Report (press agency of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs), Oct 2025 - a feature presenting the pagoda as a destination in Hue’s midland region.[6]
Phatgiao.org.vn (Apr 2024; Sept 2025) - overviews of formation, development, and community programs.[7][8]
In October 2025, An Viên TV’s newscast covered flood-relief deliveries in Huế and included footage from Pho Lai Pagoda and an interview with its abbot.[9]
These outlets are professionally edited under Vietnam’s press law and provide independent, in-depth coverage showing the pagoda’s religious, social, and cultural role in the region - not merely a local building.
The sources #2, #8, #9 are included only as administrative verification (ward/commune changes, original facility name); they are not relied upon for notability.
Concerns about viwiki are local to viwiki and do not bear on enwiki’s independent assessment of sources.
In my view the improved article now satisfies WP:GNG. Please evaluate the revised sourcing and do not delete the article. Nguyenngocthanhtoan (talk) 01:31, 30 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Comment at this stage: I was the AFC reviewer. I initially declined the input for LLM and using sources off YouTube from personal accounts, as well as being promotional. I worked with the editor to make the article more NPOV, reduce the machine language and to clean up sourcing, It was resubmitted as a cut down version of the original and I approved based only on sources and policy. I did not consider user / sockpuppet as an issue, other than as a trigger to check sources, so I don't see account issues as a reason sui generis to decline an article. Essay (not policy) WP:LOCAL was relevant but otherwise it is WP:GNG for notability, plus verification as my primary concerns. The "positive" tone of contemporary Viet sources compared to Western media is a well established, all embracing fact of life, in my view, and I didn't want to go into a cultural bias because of that. ChrysGalley (talk) 09:11, 30 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Comment The sources that Nguyenngocthanhtoan mentioned above have the following problems:
  • The two articles in Vietnam Architecture Journal and The World and Vietnam Report share many overlaps in wording and data: "gieo hạt giống Phật pháp vào đời sống bình dị của bà con thôn dã", "Điểm nhấn nổi bật là tượng Quan Thế Âm bằng đá nguyên khối", "từ thiện không chỉ là sẻ chia vật chất", "Sự hiện diện số giúp câu chuyện sống đạo, kiên trì và nhân ái có thêm bạn đồng hành", etc. This suggests they are not independent sources but were written based on an introductory article from Phổ Lại Pagoda.
  • The Journal of Buddhist Studies article is poorly formatted, containing more than a dozen plain-text URLs linking to the pagoda’s YouTube, TikTok, and Facebook videos. This is a poorly edited PR piece.
  • The An Viên TV news video includes only about one minute mentioning that Phổ Lại Pagoda gave shelter to people during the floods, which does not meet WP:SIGCOV.
  • Most of these sources were published within a short time span (August–October 2025), shortly after a page was deleted on Vietnamese Wikipedia in July 2025. The timing raises suspicion that these publications are part of a coordinated media campaign in preparation for the creation of this Wikipedia article.

It is being used as a primary/field source per WP:PRIMARY for verification, not to establish notability. By contrast, The World & Vietnam Report is an independent news outlet (press agency of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and is one of the core, independent sources supporting coverage. The suggestion that it derives from a pagoda handout is unsupported; there is no evidence that its article was republished from temple material. Overlap in wording across outlets is not evidence of dependence unless co-publication/press-release reuse is demonstrated; here the publishers are separate entities. See WP:INDEPENDENT.
  • The Journal of Buddhist Studies article (under the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha) is used as a secondary source to verify historical details (e.g., date of abbot appointment, year established, original facility name). It is not relied upon to demonstrate notability.
  • An Viên TV newscast is a broadcast news program and is cited narrowly to confirm the pagoda’s flood-relief/community function. It is supporting, not the sole basis for WP:SIGCOV.
  • Allegations about user behavior on viwiki are separate from enwiki’s content assessment; per WP:LOCALCONSENSUS, English Wikipedia evaluates the sources and article text on their own merits here. Nguyenngocthanhtoan (talk) 15:43, 2 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Not yet notable per WP:NACTOR. A thorough search for reliable sources turns up only what you see: a passing mention in a The Sunday Times (Sri Lanka) article on the film Thattu Deke Iskole; an interview in Lankadeepa, and being one of two example actresses in a Ceylon Today article about "Mega Dramas". Least minor role she's had so far is as the named wife of a main character in Deweni Inima, and I could find only a mention of that in a NetTV4U profile. The rest is TV gossip pages, like the small pile in the external links section. Declined once in draft, then moved by draft creator to main space. Consensus has been that notability is not automatic in WP:LISTED (or any other) case. Fails to meet WP:NCORP, WP:CORPDEPTH. Indian media sources, whether on or off Wikipedia, should be viewed with caution, as they often present press releases as news WP:RSNOI. Apart from that, activities like revenue targets, profit/financial reporting and ratings, share buy or sell recommendations, turnover news, capacity expansion news etc., are merely routine coverage WP:ROUTINE, regardless of where they are published. As of now, the page is a WP:PROMO. TC-BT-1C-SI (talk) 10:22, 14 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete The article does not show enough notability as per WP:NCORP and WP:CORPDEPTH. Most of the links are just normal business updates like fund raise, stake sale, profit reports, or analyst notes which are routine things and not detailed independent coverage. These are common for any listed company and do not help in showing real notability. Many of the Indian news links look like re-written press releases or paid stories, so as per WP:RSNOI they cannot be taken as strong sources. Being listed on NSE or BSE does not automatically make it notable under WP:LISTED. The page mostly reads like a company profile or promotion and not like an encyclopedia article... --LexyNight (talk) 16:01, 31 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

This article appears to be, in large part, original research. A year ago, User:Applodion made the following comment on WikiProject Ancient Egypt:

Hello! Though not a member of this WikiProject, I have always been interested in Ancient Egyptian history, and got a bit confused yesterday when I stumbled on "Siege of Naqada", an article created at the start of this year. I have read a number of books covering Naqada III, and all of them have argued that we have basically no firm proof for actual military campaigns under Scorpion I (or even for the exact position/power/role of Scorpion I) despite the existence of the Theban Desert Road Survey graffito. Yet this article claims that, somehow, we know about a specific siege, the commanders, and even the numbers of the involved troops? Has there been some kind of breakthrough in archaeology or is this a case of WP:OR?

A few weeks later in December, I put an original research tag on the page with a link to Applodion's comment, hoping that the page's author (or an experienced editor) could shine more light on the issue. Unfortunately, the page creator (User:Carminowe) nor their newer account User:ACarminowe have chimed in to clarify the situation. What's especially problematic is that most of the sources given in this page are offline sources, which makes the claims hard to verify.

Unlike Appolodion, I have not read books on ancient Egypt - though I have read some of Wikipedia's other material on the subject. What I've come to expect on this subject is that the historical record is patchy and requires educated guesses, with material reading like this:

Egyptologists such as Wolfgang Helck and Peter Kaplony believe that Horus Bird and Sneferka fought each other to gain the throne of Egypt. The struggles peaked in the plundering of the royal cemetery of Abydos, which was therefore abandoned. The struggle for the throne was possibly brought to an end by the founder of the 2nd dynasty, king Hotepsekhemwy. A piece of evidence supporting this theory is the Horus name of Hotepsekhemwy which means "The two powers are reconciled", and could relate to a re-unification of the Egyptian realm after a period of discord.

If Wash was a historical figure he may have been the last ruler of a Lower Egyptian dynasty based at Buto. Indeed, Narmer's fame rests on being the Upper Egyptian pharaoh to defeat the last Lower Egyptian pharaoh. However, rather than recording this historical event the palette may simply depict an allegory for Narmer's excellence and right of command, with the figure of Wash having been recruited to the task.

As you can see, the text is tentative, never spectulating past the broadest geographic detail. In contrast, Siege of Naqada tells us:

King Scorpion I mobilised his forces along the Nile at first from Thinis.

It is believed King Scorpion I himself joined his main detachment, and marched his main army through the desert highlands, heading south-east towards Naqada suggested by the graffito discovered there.[1] This was to avoid a blockade via the Nile or the interior surrounding the River Nile, for which to distract during the Campaign he had sent smaller forces including naval forces.

King Scorpion I may have outflanked Nubt's army in a matter of days and took Naqada.[1] It is unknown when it occurred, before or after, but Scorpion I killed Taurus personally in single combat.[5][6]

I can't see how the page can talk about the flanking, the movement of regiments, when the rest of ancient Egyptian history is so patchy. I really didn't want to take the move of taking this to AfD, but the original research notice has been on top of the page for a year, the author has not explained his research, and most sources are not accessible online. This seems to be the last possible way of forcing the issue. And beyond the article text, and one of the most fundamental problems here is with the title - even if there's a plausible case that Scorpion I undertook some sort of military campaign somewhere, how can we be certain that it was a siege?

As for policy-based reasoning for the AfD, I'd suggest WP:TNT (technically not policy but it's relevant here), WP:OR - or perhaps even WP:IAR. Koopinator (talk) 10:40, 29 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Mr. Krebs also competed in the 1960 Olympics, so a hatnote can be added to point to his participation in those games. A redirect to Hungary at the 1960 Summer Olympics#Shooting with a hatnote pointing to 1956 is fine too, but my preference is to redirect to 1956 since he competed in multiple events. The book has a section titled "Shanzhai Spring Festival Gala: A Case Study". The book notes: "Lao Meng, full name Shi Mengqi, was born in 1972. ... Therefore, he came up with an idea of running a grassroots gala to entertain rural migrant workers and students who could not return home for family gatherings during the Spring Festival. Against the backdrop of the rise of the shanzhai economy and the e'gao craze, Lao Meng started to prepare his shanzhai gala at the end of 2008. On 23 November 2008, Lao Meng posted a 'call for programs' on his blog. He addressed the nation's netizens as follows: ...

The book notes: "Lao Meng's public challenge immediately caught public attention. On 29 November 2008, the Beijing Times first reported Lao Meng's gala in an article headlined 'Ordinary citizen intends to run shanzhai version of Spring Festival Gala and challenge CCTV'. When audiences and media were preparing to watch CCTV's gala in two months' time, Lao Meng's counter-CCTV gala became eye-catching news. People were eager to witness the fight between 'ant' and 'elephant'. Many traditional and Internet media interviewed Lao Meng and reported on his gala plan. He soon became a media celebrity for his open challenge to CCTV."

The book notes: "Shanzhai culture's most notorious expression however has been in the proliferation of copycat Spring Festival galas, now a regular feature of the holiday season. CCTV's official New Year gala—a variety show with singers, sketches and comedians-was, for decades, mandatory viewing for the majority of Chinese. This made it the most watched show in China, and therefore the world. As China opened to the outside, however, the show faced growing criticism. Audience numbers were dwindling as younger generations became unwilling to watch the staid top-down entertainment produced by the state. In 2009 'for the first time in its 27-year history, the official broadcaster's show has competition when a 36-year-old wedding planner named Shi Mengqi sought to produce a Shanzhai gala and air it live on Guizhou TV as well as streaming it for free over the Internet',? In the end, according to Yu Hua:"

The book notes: "The case of Shanzhai, which had the greatest impact on Chinese Internet users, was the "Shanzhai Spring Festival Gala Evening, Shanzhai Chunjie (山寨春节)" a copycat of the more famous traditional show broadcast by Chinese Central Television (CCTV) on the Chinese New Year's Eve. "The Shanzhai Spring Festival Gala Evening" was broadcast online for the first time in 2008 by Shi Mengqi, a young, amateur camera operators based in Beijing (Negro 2010). The Shanzhai gala dinner was not considered a mere imitation of the CCTV program, and it triggered lively debate among government officials and scholars who debated "whether a copycat would be beneficial or detrimental to Chinese society" (Jiang 2012). Shi Mengqi claimed that his online show was simply an alternative to the CCTV show, which was becoming too commercial and out of line with the audience's real needs. In the wake of its initial success, a website dedicated to the Shanzhai show was launched (www.ccstv.net—China Country Side TV). The Shanzhai program was a real success as testified by the more than 1000 voluntary applications for 30 performance slots along with donations of equipment and money and a partnership with one of China's biggest Internet companies. It was successful also because some traditional broadcasters such as the regional Guizhou TV station offered the program its technical support in airing the program."

The article notes: "Lao Meng, whose full name is Shi Menggi, was born in 1972. He is an IT worker, event planner and producer of wedding videos. In 2002, Lao Meng moved to Beijing from Southwest China. As a migrant, he often spent the Spring Festival alone, and so watching the CCTV Spring Festival Gala had become a habit on New Year's Eve. For him, the gala was an extravaganza hosted by a national TV station, performed by famous stars and sponsored by big corporations, leaving few opportunities for everyday people to participate. Therefore, he decided to make a grassroots gala to entertain rural migrant workers and students who could not return home for family gatherings during the Spring Festival (People's Daily 2010). Against the backdrop of the popularity of e'gao culture and the shanzhai economy, Lao Meng started to prepare his shanzhai gala at the end of 2008 with his friends. He wanted to make an unpolished and relaxed grassroots show with a little bit of satirical fun.

The article notes: "We selected CCSTV Spring Festival Gala (China Countryside Television, Shanzhai Chunwan) as an illustrative case study because of its impact on the rise of Shanzhai culture (De Kloet & Chow, 2017. Shanzhai culture has a rebellious nature (De Kloet & Chow, 2017), intending to delegitimize the authority of elite-dominant cultural institutions through comedic imitation (Chen, 2014). The CCSTV Spring Festival Gala was initiated by Mengqi Shi, a Beijing-based cameraman. After attending the official CCTV Spring Festival Gala, he criticized it for being “not designed for the ordinary audience…, the audience was nothing but high officials and rich people” (Lee, 2012). Hence, he organized a program produced by and for ordinary people: the CCSTV Gala. More than 700 groups and individuals from a grassroots context applied to appear. At first, the national satellite station Guizhou TV offered a channel to broadcast the CCSTV Gala on TV; however, Shi decided to broadcast online to maintain its grassroots nature. With its grassroots origin and rebellious characteristics, Shanzhai Chunwan delegitimized the authorities of elite-dominated cultural productions and institutions by highlighting the taste, identity, and value of the mass. Its theme song had lines such as “The bad new Year’s Gala from ‘Angshi’ is rotten everywhere” (jesting the pronunciation of CCTV “Yangshi”), and “the good directors of Shanzhai Chunwan, forever move forward, the good Chunwan for the people.”"

There is sufficient coverage in reliable sources to allow the CCSTV Spring Festival Gala, also known as Shanzhai Chunjie (simplified Chinese: 山寨春节; traditional Chinese: 山寨春節) to pass Wikipedia:Notability#General notability guideline, which requires "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject".

Not a notable term, fails WP:NEO. Of the sources here, the only one that gives sigcov is an FBI report. All others are passing mentions or usages of the word or do not mention the term of the article at all. A search returned barely even mentions of this idea (and a lot of hits for Call of Duty), much less sigcov. One or two quote the FBI report directly, but simply quoting a source does not make it intellectually independent of those sources.

I would suggest we merge into the White power skinhead article, which this is really a subtopic of. PARAKANYAA (talk) 07:49, 29 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I have taken the liberty of searching for available sources on this individual, but could only find a limited number of mostly questionable sources that don't go much beyond quick biographies. In my view, there isn't enough to warrant an article under WP:NBIO at this time.

The WP:PRIMARY source used in this article from GB News is unfortunately also not reliable per WP:GBNEWS. WP:METRO is also not reliable. I welcome any participants who wish to find any more sources, but unfortunately I don't think there is enough. Delete. 11WB (talk) 05:24, 29 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Keep - Ellie Costello is a British journalist and presenter at GB News, and she has some independent media coverage in major news outlets such as ITV News, The Standard Originalflavors (talk) 16:57, 29 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Those sources are unfortunately not enough to satisfy a WP:BLP article. The ITV News one is about something that has no relevance to the article. The Standard is another of the same report of the wedding which is already present on the article, and only scrapes by on reliability per WP:THESTANDARD. 11WB (talk) 18:42, 29 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I am not convinced that this is a significant weather event. I've reviewed this article and attempted to find some sources as outlined under WP:BEFORE. Unfortunately, I did not turn up much outside of one British Newspaper Archive snippet from 1935 and an WP:SPS with one line to substantiate the information within the article. The sources that were already present in the article are WP:TRIVIALMENTIONS.

I have made comparisons to other articles that are listed in Category:20th-century heat waves, there are a few in this list which I believe also do not meet WP:GNG or WP:NWEATHER. The ones that do however have far more coverage, for example 1995 Chicago heat wave and 1911 Eastern North America heat wave. This one does not have that. I don't think there is anything that couldn't be included at List of heat waves, so I will suggest a merge or redirect, whilst keeping an open mind to anybody that comments in this AfD. I welcome any sources that are found. 11WB (talk) 05:05, 29 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

WP:NCORP and WP:LISTN are failed due to the lack of any significant coverage in independent, reliable sources. Instead the source is entirely sourced to:

  • Delete per WP:NOTSCANDAL, — Maile (talk) 21:31, 21 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Maile66 That says "promoting things "heard through the grapevine" or gossiping. Articles and content about living people are required to meet an especially high standard, as they may otherwise be libellous or infringe the subjects' right to privacy. Articles must not be written purely to attack the reputation of another person." How does that apply here? None of the coverage I mentioned is that kind of material. An article about a gossip magazine is not a gossip piece itself; or otherwise, we would not have say, TMZ. But TMZ, and this magazine, passes GNG. • Redirect to Hollywood star (the disambiguation page): This page, in general, only talks about itself from a non-notable perspective, with its only source basically serving as its official website. As for my proposed action, while I generally feel a redirect link to a content page is applicaple (as 4meter4 mentioned), I don't think the target pages recommended, or suitable enough, offer enough information to defy such a redirect. So instead, I believe it would be better, at least for the time being, to have this page redirect to this disambiguation page. — Alex26337 (talk) 20:04, 23 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Alex26337 The current status of the page is irrelevant when sources exist, see WP:NEXIST. Do you think the sources that exist are not enough to establish notability? PARAKANYAA (talk) 21:57, 24 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@PARAKANYAA: Not necessarily. There are times when, for the articles I consider for deletion, keeping, or an otherwise alternate action, I look to see if there's a chance that there is more information (usually starting at Google Scholar, but not limited to that site). However, this process isn't always on the front of my mind, and I may miss thinking like this at times. I don't want it to seem like I'm indifferent to certain values; honestly, I still see myself as a new and ignorant person when it comes to the many traits of notability guidelines, so I feel a bit sensitive to this opposition to my opinion. Nonetheless, I empathize to your perspective, and have seen that, while the article is in a, "phase fit for improvement", it doesn't stop the fact that there is enough to take this article beyond the lines of such a baseline.
Anyways, despite my neutral perspective about this subject, I'll be changing my vote to Keep as a result of this new development (which once again opened my eyes to this "consideration" experience). Also, I don't want you to take my reaction harshly, alright? Discussions like these just helps me prepare for similar situations in the future. Thanks (I still feel sensitive about it though). — Alex26337 (talk) 03:15, 25 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Keep same reason as @Rupples KashanAbbas (talk) 15:04, 1 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep as a legally recognised, populated place under WP:NPLACE. Hussainabad has been designated a Town Municipal Corporation, one of 9 in Hyderabad District, Sindh. The district has in recent years been restructured.[39][40], which has likely caused the confusion over Hussainabad's status. Gidu Bandar seems to be more of a historical name. On page 234 of this gazetteer,[41] Gidu-Bandar is noted as one of the "chief towns" in Hyderabad Taluka and on other pages is mentioned in connection with submarine cables across the Indus to Kotri, an aerial electric telegraph, a daily ferry and a school. Mostly a WP:BLP1E related to the recent Young Republican group chat leaks. His other work as vice chair and (briefly) chair of the NYS Young Republicans, and social media manager for Rob Ortt, don't establish much in the way of separate notability. GorillaWarfare (she/her • talk) 01:19, 22 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I would argue Bobby is notable due to his position at the time this scandal broke and for his involvement in it. A two-pronged notability, not to mention that he is a successful and (formerly) well-respected campaign manager in NY GOP circles. This page should stay, as Walker was the highest ranking member of the New York Young Republicans when the scandal broke, and frankly, was an avid participant in the group chat itself. This page is almost as important as the Peter Giunta page itself. Not to mention the page of Stephen Douglass. Stephen and Mr. Walker were the only two political officeholders involved in these vile messages. Therefore, the importance of this page staying is paramount. — Preceding unsigned comment added by KittyHawk2014 (talkcontribs) 01:26, 22 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I assume you mean Samuel Douglass (politician) (not Stephen). He was separately notable as a Vermont state senator. Giunta is more borderline IMO, but he has more substantial coverage predating the YR scandal from a longer political career, which is why I didn't also nominate it for AfD. Walker is not an officeholder, except insofar as he held chair/vice chair positions at the NYSYR, which does not automatically confer notability. GorillaWarfare (she/her • talk) 01:36, 22 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Redirect/selectively merge to Young Republican group chat leaks per nomination. While BLP1E is somewhat applicable, the guideline clarifies that we should avoid having an article on a living person if the relevant "event is not significant or the individual's role was either not substantial or not well documented" (see Wikipedia:What BLP1E is not). I don't think either of those qualifications hold true, so I think a better argument is WP:PAGEDECIDE which establishes that the subject of the article is obviously best understood within the broader context of the group chat leaks. Katzrockso (talk) 02:32, 22 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Create a permanent stub Pursuant to Wikipedia's PermStub page, Bobby falls under the following criteria: All or most aspects of the subject are already covered in other articles.
There is not much to say about the subject.
The article is about a subject that was briefly notable, but no longer receives any coverage.
The subject is about or is notable for a single event, after which there will never likely be any future coverage.
Bobby is young and was a central figure in this scandal, second to Giunta. His name was covered around the globe. And, he is young, so he has a future where this page could be expanded. — Preceding unsigned comment added by KittyHawk2014 (talkcontribs) 21:57, 22 October 2025 (UTC) Duplicate !vote: KittyHawk2014 (talkcontribs) has already cast a !vote above.[reply]

  • Comment I looked only at the martial arts part of this article. There are claims of "world" medals but he never competed at a world championship. His second place at the 2015 European Open championships was in the age division "Master 3", which is 3 age groups older than the adult divisions. His silver medal was in a division with only 2 competitors, so he didn't even win a match.[46] There's also no evidence that he's a professional martial artist and has no accomplishments that would show notability as a martial artist. • Delete. Sourcing is insufficient, and the article was obviously created by a SPA to promote this person.

Keep. Subject is a member of the UAE’s Al Qasimi royal family, a prominent businessman and a jiu‑jitsu competitor. Some independent coverage includes Gulf News, Zawya, Hadara Magazine, WAM etc. There should be more Originalflavors (talk) 17:21, 29 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for providing these sources. 1 and 4 are not significant coverage, while 2 is clearly labeled a press release and is thus non-independent. The only one approaching SIGCOV is the Hadara article, and even that consists mostly of interview quotes. The very little analysis provided by the author is presented in a very promotional manner. I'll leave it up to others to analyze these sources. JTtheOG (talk) 17:58, 29 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Gulf News is not a RS for Emirati politics (see here). Cortador (talk) 19:55, 29 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
