Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Rajasthan

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Rajasthan. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Rajasthan|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Rajasthan. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
Further information
For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

This list is also part of the larger list of deletion debates related to India.

I am currently expanding the article in question using multiple reliable sources to address concerns regarding notability. Please refrain from deleting it until these improvements are complete. Furthermore, the references I am adding are from reliable sources. Kindly do not remove them while I continue to improve the article. WikiWhizKid1999 (talk) 19:23, 1 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I recently accepted this article via AfC. The subject has significant coverage in reliable sources like The Indian Express, The Print, and Hindustan Times, mainly around his death, but with in-depth info about his life. There's also a 2021 Hindi source with substantial coverage. I believe this meets the GNG, but to ensure consensus, I think an AfD discussion would be helpful so experienced editors can weigh in. Was his death notable? Most people have obituaries. Where is the significant coverage outside of his death? --CNMall41 (talk) 17:23, 28 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I have a question please. If a news article about a person's death includes substantial coverage of their early life, career, and accomplishments essentially providing in-depth information directly about the subject, does that count toward meeting the General Notability Guideline (GNG)? Or is such a source discounted just because it's related to their death?Afstromen (talk) 17:45, 28 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Reflecting on someone's life is exactly what an obituary does. If they were notable prior to the death, there would be significant coverage about their life during that time. So, unless something about the death is notable, it would not count. Otherwise, we could simply create new pages based on obituary sections of newspapers. --CNMall41 (talk) 18:18, 28 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, i wasn't aware of this. Outside his death, i found some sources [5], [6], [7].Afstromen (talk) 19:00, 28 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Radheshyam Bishnoi was a celebrity in Indian conservation circles prior to his death with many stories published about his work in Hindi and English. He also won notable awards, so he seems to clear the notability bar. Naturepeople (talk) 23:17, 28 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
He was notable person before his death. He won awards from Rajasthan gov and he was featured in many popular news sites. Jodhpuri (talk) 12:23, 29 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

This article lacks significant coverage as outlined in WP:SIGCOV. It inaccurately depicts a minor event—the limited damage to the fort’s battlements—as a siege. This portrayal seems to stem more from the creator's imagination than from historical fact. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rawn3012 (talkcontribs) 15:09, 26 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per nomination. This article represents a purely synthetic creation that lacks any basis in established definitions of siege. The term "siege" cannot be applied to the destruction of a minor repair, making it inadequate as a standalone topic. Furthermore, it fails to meet the criteria of WP:GNG, lacking the notable coverage necessary for a separate article. Rawn3012 (talk) 04:12, 27 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - The only significant coverage there is in Somani (1976), Somani's works were authored under the patronage of the house of Mewar, in 1965 he had only a Bachelor of arts in history, there is no information on the rest of his qualifications, if he had any. R.K. Gupta, S.R. Bakshi (2008) is known to be unreliable, since it contains unattributed copyrighted content from other works including those from the WP:RAJ era, and it is published by non scholarly publication as well. [8] There is significant coverage in Rima Hooja (2006)[9], but not enough to warrant a standalone article. I suggest covering the details at the articles of involved belligerent leaders. Shankargb (talk) 14:28, 27 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom not suitable for a standalone article. Reliable sources like Somani and Hooja's book which have been used in the article doesn't even mention of a siege or battle, they only talk about Saadat marching with his troops and carrying out demolitions. This information can be summarized into a para and be included in Raj Singh I's article here [10]. Mohammad Umar Ali (talk)

Article fails GNG and mostly is based on unreliable sources like WP:JOSHUAPROJECT and hinduonline.co. The second source is a mirror to Wikipedia content WP:MAF Durjan Singh Jadon (talk) 15:11, 23 May 2025 (UTC) Durjan Singh Jadon (talk) 15:02, 23 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Keep – The article has been significantly improved with the addition of reliable sources, including recent news coverage of Sikhwal Brahmin community activities in 2024. Furthermore, the historical significance of the community is well-documented in published works such as Sikhwal Rajasthan Itihas by N.M. Sharma. Based on these verifiable and reliable references, the article meets Wikipedia’s general notability guideline (WP:GNG). Sahi1up (talk) 15:56, 23 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Sikhwal Rajasthan Itihas is a self published source published by Sikhwal publications (owned by Sikhwal community). 🦅Durjan Singh Jadon (talk) 16:57, 23 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Keep – Although Sikhwal Rajasthan Itihas is a community-published source, Wikipedia policies like WP:RS and WP:SOURCES allow such materials when they deal with non-controversial information about the subject itself, especially when no other comprehensive sources exist. Moreover, Sikhwal Brahmins have received coverage in independent regional news outlets such as Rajasthan Patrika and Dainik Bhaskar, which have reported on community events, cultural traditions, and social leadership. These sources provide significant, non-trivial coverage and meet the standards set out in WP:GNG. While the article could be improved with better inline citations and formatting, the subject clearly passes the notability threshold. Deletion is not appropriate in this case.
