Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Sports
![]() | Points of interest related to Sports on Wikipedia: Outline – Portal – Category – WikiProject – Alerts – Deletions – Stubs – Assessment – To-do |
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Sports. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Sports|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Sports. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

The holding company is not-notable and fails WP:NCORP. The article is primarily content about the San Antonio Spurs, not the holding company, then a WP:SYNTHed-together reporting of the holding company's portfolio. Longhornsg (talk) 17:18, 27 May 2025 (UTC)

- Keep - sports teams holding companies often are notable. Doing a before search brings up many hits for the company. Mostly books related to sports management. But I agree, the article should be redone to be less focused on the Spurs. ロドリゲス恭子 (talk) 18:02, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hits yes, but it's WP:ROUTINE coverage, which is what I found in my before. Are the cites in the books WP:SIGCOV of SS&E specifically? Longhornsg (talk) 18:24, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
- Some books have had multiple pages dedicated to SS&E, such as these, and they are national authors too rather than local San Antonio coverage.

- Keep This just meets WP:GNG. I actually do think that content like this article, Green Bay Packers, Inc., and so on would be better contextualized in the team's article, but I don't see a basis in policy to delete them, Rjjiii (talk) 02:17, 28 May 2025 (UTC)
- Keep: References used in this article demonstrate the notability of the subject. Passes WP:GNG. AndySailz (talk) 09:14, 28 May 2025 (UTC)
- Possible keep. This source on Forbes is independent and reliable and counts towards GNG. this source is secondary and onpy partially contributes to GNG. The remaining sources are passing mentions, blogs, or not independent. Overall sourcing needs improvement. Flibirigit (talk) 11:19, 28 May 2025 (UTC)

- Weak Keep - And I mean weak. Holding companies typically are not notable as its their holdings that normally generate the WP:ORGCRIT needed for notability and notability would not be inherent simply because its the parent. However, the fact it gets attention in numerous books would push this to notability for me. Note that the Forbes reference would fall under WP:FORBESCON so I would not consider it for notability. --CNMall41 (talk) 17:24, 29 May 2025 (UTC)

Refbombed promotion for non notable individual. Lacks coverage in independent reliable sources. Many sources but most are by him instead of about him. A little bit of local interest puff but nothing significant. Awards are not major. duffbeerforme (talk) 07:59, 27 May 2025 (UTC)

- Comment. I have decided not to make a specific recommendation here. Yet. As, frankly, I wonder if I can leave aside the years of WP:COI and WP:REFBOMB concerns that I've struggled with on this title. And, perhaps, any !vote contribution from me may not be fully objective. However, I have long wondered whether WP:BASIC and WP:JOURNALIST and WP:NACADEMIC are met here. As, IMO, there is limited evidence that the subject has received significant coverage in multiple secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject. The sources (in the article and seemingly those that are available) are almost all either written by the subject (some about himself and others just things he has written generally), or by entities associated with the subject (university bio profiles, Huffington Post profile, news employer bio, etc), or are just trivial passing mentions. The only three sources, of which the subject is a primary topic and which are could be considered somewhat independent, are the three pieces in the local Clare Champion newspaper (from 2013, 2021 & 2022). And, personally, I'd question whether these are fully independent. Or whether these types of "local boy graduates" stories materially contribute to notability. Any more than this "former co-worker wrote autobiography" piece is strictly independent. Anyway. If I was confident that years of COI/REFBOMB/FV annoyance with this title weren't influencing my recommendation, I'd probably lean "delete". But, being perfectly frank and hopefully somewhat self-aware, I'm not convinced would be an entirely objective recommendation (based entirely on NBIO merit).... Guliolopez (talk) 11:37, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
- Delete This was a tricky one to try and assess. Ultimately I think notability is not there. There is some coverage but is it significant? I think not. Looking at the academic side, I don't think the research and published works are there yet. The awards are non-notable really and as for the references, most are published own works. It almost feels kind of WP:Auto even if it isn't. Coldupnorth (talk) 19:54, 29 May 2025 (UTC)

Comment: This is a WP:PAID article. Owais Al Qarni has been paid by Anim on behalf of Shafiullah Al Munir.[1] --আফতাবুজ্জামান (talk) 20:11, 26 May 2025 (UTC)
- The editor has clearly mentioned this on their talk page, so that resolves part of the issue. The other part is that if someone has paid you to write an article, then as per WP:COI, new articles should go through the Articles for Creation process so they can be reviewed before being published, even if the editor holds NPP or autopatroller rights. That’s the part that remains a concern. Also, we should now focus on whether the subject genuinely meets the criteria for having a Wikipedia page. Charlie (talk) 15:48, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
- Delete Non notable, fails WP:GNG. Most of the sources are interview masquerading as an article, i.e., directly quoting the subject or typical news i.e "Shafiullah Al Munir appointed Chairman of ...". I don’t see any substantial references. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the references are paid, especially considering the subject paid for this Wikipedia article. --আফতাবুজ্জামান (talk) 20:23, 26 May 2025 (UTC)
- Comment What the author describes as "sources covering him" with respect to various sports organizations, are almost all press releases ("has announced", "issued a notification", "announcement was officially made", a "press release" said, etc.). The few exceptions among the sports-related, such as [2], are not significant coverage of Munir. --Worldbruce (talk) 19:01, 28 May 2025 (UTC)
- Delete Other sources discuss his failed political bid, divorce, imprisonment and torture, feud with another business magnate, and the collapse of his business. Some or all of that might make him notable, but surprise, surprise, there's no mention of any of it in the biography he paid for. We don't keep whitewashed paid bios that violate WP:NPOV. I would be willing to consider draftify if Owais Al Qarni wants to take another stab at writing a balanced article, and is willing to let it go through the AfC review process instead of just moving it back to mainspace himself. --Worldbruce (talk) 19:06, 28 May 2025 (UTC)

The list of championships includes only 13 events, none of which have their own Wikipedia article. This leads me to believe the page may violate notability guidelines. I think it should be merged back into the main article, as it doesn't meet the criteria for a standalone page. - I don't see how you can ever reach that conclusion. It is a World Championship formally recognised by the IOC recognised sporting body. To add to this it is the "Youth" World Championship on the same equipment as used in the Olympic Games hence a number of high profile sailors. All the content for this has been on wikipedia for a number of years in templates. As per a previously agreed policy with other editors who requested that the events side is not on the same page as the equipment these event pages for each title were created. The title definately meets the sports notability requirement although I doubt individual event do. I will work more on the referencing but even this is much better than the previous 10 years. I would say this page also demostrates the usefullness of wikipedia as the official website for the RS:X disappeared within 18 months of the equipment not being used as Olympic equipment. The event is no longer held. Yachty4000 (talk) 01:27, 6 May 2025 (UTC)

- Keep. WP:SPORTBASIC appears to apply to bios not teams. WP:NTEAM says that there are no special notability criteria for teams other than those listed under particular sports and American football doesn't seem to be listed on that page? This defunct team appears to have been covered somewhat regularly by the Manchester, Nashua, and Keene newspapers with occasional coverage elsewhere. Jahaza (talk) 06:21, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
- Comment It's unclear what you're referring to: there are three references in the article. There is no coverage by newspapers from Nashua or Manchester(the first reference is a wire story), and only one story from Keene. "Somewhat regularly" would infer that they would have coverage of all, if not most, of their games in addition to other coverage. If this coverage exists, why has it not been added in the last decade? There is only one example of WP:SIGCOV of this tech businessperson, this profile in the San Francisco Standard. The rest of the coverage is WP:TRIVIALMENTIONS (e.g. [15], [16], [17]), affiliated sources (e.g. [18]) or WP:PRIMARYSOURCES ([19], [20]). I came across this article whilst looking for the YouTube educator. (who apparently doesn't have an article at this time) Asides from a few external links, there appears to be only one source for this biographical article about a basketball player. I suggest draftification unless users performing WP:BEFORE searches can find sufficient sources to expand and rescue this article. – MrPersonHumanGuy (talk) 22:59, 25 May 2025 (UTC)
- Withdrawn. When I hastily made my nomination, I assumed the article would be held to the same (or similarly high) notability standards as biographical articles for YouTubers like J. J. McCullough, Mr. Beat and Sambucha, and other sportspeople like Armand Biniakounou and Patrick Chiwala. (I don't really care as much about these two, just thought I'd mention them as examples) Nonetheless, I take away the following from this:
- Articles on sportspeople are held to some standards, but apparently those standards may not be as high as the standards for articles about influencers. (I might have run with a fallacy here)
- If I had wanted to bring other editors' attention to an article, I could've just tagged it as needing "immediate attention", but that can only be done through certain WikiProject banners. In my experience, tagging an article for "immediate attention" on its talk page ironically seems less effective (than an AfD nomination) at drawing a reasonable amount of attention to an article within a reasonable amount of time.
- Nonetheless, as an inclusionist, I'd be satisfied to see the article kept. Feel free to close this discussion as speedy keep at any time. – MrPersonHumanGuy (talk) 11:20, 26 May 2025 (UTC)

As Hill was a prominent enough basketball player in Europe, I was able to farm [21] [22] from other languages, [23] is a good article and [24] [25] are other sources. Not all of these are SIGCOV but coverage is easily found, and we don't draftify source-deficient articles if the subject is notable. SportingFlyer T·C 01:23, 26 May 2025 (UTC)
- Keep Another source. [26] Passes WP:NBASKETBALL. Anyone who is selected in an NBA draft is going to have coverage. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 02:45, 26 May 2025 (UTC)
- It doesn't look like the nominator saw themselves as the person addressed by the text of WP:BEFORE, but that is how we conventionally mean it - you are supposed to do some due diligence before nominating, as opposed to nominating and expecting others to do it. We're all volunteers, and it's fair to expect some investment of time up front given that you expect others to do some investment of time to then double-check that and back you up. Likewise, a lack of {{inline citations}} (and references being merely links) is a cleanup issue, not a reason for deletion. More fundamentally, if the main thing you wanted is an article about the youtuber, just write one at a disambiguated title, like Kyle Hill (YouTuber). --Joy (talk) 08:36, 26 May 2025 (UTC)

Fails WP:NATHLETE. Ledbetter's professional career in European basketball was unremarkable and does not seem to have yielded coverage in German and Luxembourgish news. The currently listed sources are his entry in the Glenville State College Hall of Fame showering affiliated praise, a user comment from the DC Basketball Blog (not even the blog post itself), minor discussion of his single-game performance in The Glenville Mercury student newspaper, and a YouTube interview from the channel Alumni4life, a local varsity jackets retailer. While I found two other instances of Ledbetter's performance reported in the Glenville Mercury, neither instance bothered to mention his season-wide performance, much less broader commentary on him as an athlete/person. Being twice named to the First All-WVIAC Team is impressive, but for a NCAA Division II conference, that achievement seems below WP:NCOLLATH. ViridianPenguin🐧 (💬) 15:58, 24 May 2025 (UTC)

- Keep all. For Big East Conference Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Year, I was easily able to find reliable secondary sources referencing each of the first 20 recipients of this award from 1997 through 2016 and added the references to the table here. There was a plethora of choices from which I was able to select. You will note that many of the references are not simply published lists from press releases but stories that went beyond routine coverage. Also, coverage in newspapers outside the locality of the award winners was present. This is beyond the standard set by WP:NLIST, since each individual entry does not need to be notable. While I suspect the article in this bulk nomination lack in referencing to demonstrate their notability, it is the referencing that is lacking, not the notability. They deserve tags stating such, but they should not be deleted. Taxman1913 (talk) 14:43, 21 May 2025 (UTC)

- Keep all. As expected, for Southeastern Conference Women's Basketball Freshman of the Year, I was easily able to find reliable secondary sources referencing each of the first 26 recipients of this award from 1984 through 2009 and added the references to the table here. As was the case with the Big East defensive player of the year, there was a plethora of choices from which I was able to select. You will note that many of the references are not simply published lists from press releases but stories that went beyond routine coverage. Also, coverage in newspapers outside the locality of the award winners was present. This is beyond the standard set by WP:NLIST, since each individual entry does not need to be notable. While I suspect the articles in this bulk nomination lack referencing to demonstrate their notability, it is the referencing that is lacking, not the notability. They deserve tags stating such, but they should not be deleted. There is little doubt that this will be the case for all the articles, which list the winners of major awards in power conferences that receive significant media coverage. - Keep – The subject meets the inclusion criteria as defined in Wikipedia:WikiProject Cricket/Notability#Individuals, which states that any cricketer who has played in a single officially recognized first-class, List A, or T20 match is presumed notable. Sajjad Ibraheem made his first-class debut for Peshawar in the 2024–25 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy on 5 November 2024, in a match against Rawalpindi. This competition is recognized as first-class by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which is the governing body of cricket in Pakistan. Sports figures need at the very least one independent source with significant coverage (WP:SIGCOV). JTtheOG (talk) 21:08, 22 May 2025 (UTC)- Thank you for the reply. While Wikipedia:WikiProject Cricket/Notability is marked as inactive, the notability principle that first-class cricketers are presumed notable is still active policy via WP:NCRICKET, and has been consistently upheld at AfD. As per WP:NCRICKET: "Playing in a first-class match is usually sufficient for notability." This is supported by numerous prior AfD closures. This satisfies WP:NCRICKET and aligns with community consensus for cricketer notability. WP:GNG is not required when reliable subject-specific notability exists and has been broadly applied in practice. Behappyyar (talk) 21:15, 22 May 2025 (UTC)

- Comment: Just to clarify: WP:NCRICKET notes that significant coverage should not be assumed for all domestic players, but it also states that playing in an officially recognized first-class match is usually sufficient for notability. This reflects established AfD precedent. Since Sajjad Ibraheem debuted in a PCB-sanctioned first-class match, the subject meets this standard, regardless of media coverage.
- This will rest on whether sufficient sources can be found to meet the WP:GNG – something along the lines of WP:BASIC level. I don't read Urdu so can't determine if the source in that language would significantly help reach that sort of bar. Simply meeting NCRIC has not been considered sufficient for an article to be kept for years. In this case there appears to not be a suitable list to redirect the article to, so I would suggest sending the article to draft initially unless suitable sourcing can be found Blue Square Thing (talk) 08:39, 24 May 2025 (UTC)
- Delete. According to global consensus, all sportsperson articles are required to cite a source of IRS SIGCOV in addition to the subject meeting GNG. Meeting NCRICKET only affords a presumption of further SIGCOV if this SPORTCRIT criterion is satisfied. JoelleJay (talk) 15:42, 24 May 2025 (UTC)

- Delete - No SIGCOV, participation-based notability criteria were deprecated by WP:NSPORTS2022, and I'd say that the idea that playing for Pesahawar necessarily indicates notability has been quite definitely disproved by the large number of LUGSTUBs deleted/redirected already. FOARP (talk) 10:55, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
- Draftify: I respect all of your opinions. But I created the article in good faith after reading Wikipedia:WikiProject Cricket/Notability#Individuals, which states that a cricketer who has played a single officially recognized first-class match is usually considered notable. Unfortunately, I did not notice any "inactive" status tag on the guideline at the time of writing, and believed it to be valid and in line with precedent.
- Sajjad Ibraheem made his debut in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, which is the highest level of first-class cricket in Pakistan. Given that, I believe there is a strong chance that more reliable coverage (especially from English and Urdu sources) will emerge in the coming months as his career progresses.
- Therefore, I respectfully request that the article be moved to Draft space rather than deleted, so that I can improve it over time with better sourcing as it becomes available.

KEEP This is a perfectly valid article that should not have been put forward for deletion (if you get your kicks deleting articles people have worked hard on, at least focus on the many thousands of unnecessary articles on US sports and popular culture, rather than seeking to scrap valid articles from non western/ non Anglosphere country topics which are inevitably harder to source but no less notable).
Anyway, this is clearly a major regional cricket ground in Nepal. Sources make clear it's one of the grounds for the major cricket tournament in the country. The article is substantially developed. Yes it needs more sources but the source cited is independent and provides good material. If our friend who put this forward for deletion wanted to do something more useful with their time, he/she could readily add additional sources from independent professional cricketing sites which can be readily found on Google. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Atrapalhado (talk • contribs) 23:42, 15 May 2025 (UTC)

- (Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL)
Some sources will speak of a big 6, others of a big 3: this is arbitrary and very fleeting. Unthinkable to many to suggest that Matthieu van der Poel is not part of the biggest n riders at the moment. A few years ago there was an entirely different top few riders, in 5 years these guys won't be winning any more. Nothing of lasting relevance: this is a no more than a questionable snapshot of standings in the sport right now. Kevin McE (talk) 22:22, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- I understand there are probably one-off cases of sources using "Big N" to discuss random groups of riders, but considering there are multiple independent sources (e.g. [34] [35]) that define the term (not just mentioning it in passing), there are articles that discuss inclusion in the group (Is Remco Evenepoel Part of Pro Cycling’s ‘Big Four’?), and sources that refer to coverage of the group ([36] references "the much-talked about 'Big Four'"), I think this rises beyond an "arbitrary" grouping.
- There has been usage of the term for this specific group of riders for nearly a year and a half (since December 2023), and frequent usage by many different organizations since the 2024 Tour de France, which I feel is more than "very fleeting". It would be a different conversation if I had created this article immediately after the 2024 Tour, but considering usage has continued and frequently appears in articles and previews for 2025 events (for example, these two previews for the 2025 Giro d'Italia starting this weekend both mention the Big Four: [37] [38]).
- Mathieu van der Poel is not a GC contender for stage races, which is likely why he is not included in this grouping, which the article (and quoted sources) make clear is about success in stage races and Grand Tours, not a general group of "top riders" Verylongandmemorable (talk) 22:52, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- Already commented but just wanted to add: I think the argument that "in 5 years these guys won't be winning any more" conflicts with WP:CRYSTALBALL. Whether or not these riders are successful in the future, the term is widely used currently and has been defined since 2023. Assuming that it will be forgotten is not a prediction we are able to confidently make (and IMO is a bold prediction considering 3 of the 4 riders are 28 years old or younger) Verylongandmemorable (talk) 23:27, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- Multiple reliable sources are included in the article, specifically referring to the term Big Four.[39][40][41][42][43][44][45] Please provide sources to support the claims of Big 6, Big 3, et cetera. Flibirigit (talk) 22:54, 8 May 2025 (UTC)

- Keep. As per above, there are multiple independent reliable sources which reference "Big Four" in cycling, and no sources have been provided to the contrary. Flibirigit (talk) 23:05, 14 May 2025 (UTC)
- Big 6: [46], [47], [48], [49], [50], [51] and many more [52]
- Big 5: Not as common, but drop in form of Wout van Aert (one of the six) will probably make it more common in the future [53]
- Big 3: [54], [55]
- Previous big four: [56], [57]
- Phrase is incredibly flexible and transient: a journalistic device but not a meaningful and lasting concept. Kevin McE (talk) 07:10, 15 May 2025 (UTC)
- I appreciate the additional sources to consider. However, there's a significant difference in coverage between the "Big N" examples you've provided, and usage of "Big Four" to refer to the grouping of Pogacar, Vingegaard, Evenepoel, and Roglic. It isn't just used within cycling media, but in mainstream, highly reliable sources, for example:
- New York Times (via The Athletic): "INEOS Grenadiers have none of the sport’s big four on their books — Tadej Pogacar, Jonas Vingegaard, Remco Evenepoel and Primoz Roglic — who are currently the only men realistically able to win the Tour de France."
- The Independent: "And with three of the so-called ‘Big Four’ absent from the race, the door appears wide open for Roglic to regain the crown he won two years ago ... It’s hard to look past Roglic taking home the pink jersey given he’s the only member of the so-called ‘Big Four’ who’ll ride in Italy."
- The Guardian: "Pogacar, one of cycling’s “big four” stage race riders – Jonas Vingegaard, Remco Evenepoel and Primoz Roglic are the other three"
- Also, I'm a bit unclear on why the existence of a "Big Six" of cycling or "Big Three of the Classics" would negate the notability of this specific "Big Four" as an encyclopedic topic. The sources referenced in this discussion and in the article clearly delineate this quartet and their domain (stage races such as Grand Tours). As an analogy, if in men's tennis there was a future "Big Two" or "Big Six" that received significant coverage, would that erase the notability of the Big Three (tennis)? It could be worth noting in the article that a previous quartet of riders was referred to as the Big Four, but the articles you have sent are from 2015, so confusion with the current, widely discussed grouping of Pogacar, Vingegaard, Evenepoel, and Roglic is unlikely. The current "Big Four" has seen consistent definition and coverage for the last year and a half. Verylongandmemorable (talk) 17:01, 15 May 2025 (UTC)
- The point of mentioning the Froome/Quintana/Contador/Nibali top 4 is to give evidence that this is just a temporary grouping, as there have been in the past and will be in the future.
- In the tennis example, there might be grounds for saying that they are historically all historically great players (I don't really follow that sport): but by what grounds are Vingegaard and Evenepoel being positioned as historical greats in relation to grand tours?
- I acknowledge that it is a phrase used by journalists, but that does not mean that it is a concept of any durability or lasting significance. In the time I watched soccer there have been numerous different permutations described as the big 4 of English clubs: Everton used to be among them, Man City certainly weren't. Lazy journalistic phrases describing a short-lived status quo make very poor justification for encyclopaedic entries. Kevin McE (talk) 18:08, 15 May 2025 (UTC)

Fails to meet Wikipedia notability criteria. There is some very limited media coverage of McIlvogue's 2-year involvement with Livingston F.C. as a shareholder, but nothing remotely substantive enough to justify a biography - we'd need a lot more about his life in general, and/or more coverage of what his activities as a shareholder entailed. Note that even our Livingston F.C. article only mentions McIlvogue once in passing. Owning shares in something notable doesn't make the shareholder notable. Much of the prose is about his family while the sources are all about his brothers and barely make mention of Martín, who played a handful of games in his lone top-flight season with his brother as his coach. Even contemporary sources all seem to be trivial mentions in game lineups, leaving us with database entries. I understand creating this article from a completionist perspective, but, as per WP:SPORTBASIC, All sports biographies... must include at least one reference to a source providing significant coverage of the subject

- Keep. First of all, he is more often known as Abdoul Aziz Keita, sometimes also just Aziz Keita. Second, he has a good deal of coverage both for major events and generally, over time. The 2016 exploits with the national team are also covered in pieces such as Heroic Keita Sends Guinea Into Last Four (...) Captain Abdoul Aziz Keita was the hero for Guinea. The same thing happened on other occasions, such as the 2014 Guinean Super Cup. [67] Coverage of a significant event with the subject taking centre stage is the opposite of trivial/passing coverage. It is true, however, that many news articles are short or contain interview portions. To varying degrees that's the case for many articles chronicling his career such as [68], [69], [70], [71], [72], [73], [74], [75]. Geschichte (talk) 14:22, 28 May 2025 (UTC)

- @Govvy: I will say the BEFORE search wasn't easy. I persisted because the database sites showed he started in AFCON, so I knew there had to be coverage somewhere. Search engines are getting worse and I'm worried we'll start losing articles because the search engines are the starting point for BEFORE searches. It's also sort of a problem now the SNGs are gone - it's absolutely common sense he'd have at least local coverage, which he does. SportingFlyer T·C 23:46, 28 May 2025 (UTC)

- Comment – There is more than 44 sources in sr.wiki article, it's should be checked carefully. Svartner (talk) 06:35, 28 May 2025 (UTC)
- Very weak keep He didn't play his entire career in the lower leagues, in fact he played a good number of games in the second tier. (However Serbian First League is not a fully pro league like it says it is, in fact that league is semi-pro. Which also counts against some notability in my opinion.) I had a look at both articles and a lot of the citations between the two wiki's. I am somewhat confused about the, on loan for five seasons? I thought I read he was on loan for only two and then signed. There are a number of oddities with his career and the sources. Saying all this, with the amount of citations, they are pretty routine and some are really not acceptable in my opinion. However there is a build of them, and that builds up the story, along with it's oddities. I could have easily just said delete however my keep is very weak. Govvy (talk) 13:33, 28 May 2025 (UTC)
- Keep (stronger) - the many, many sources on the Serbian page, even though many are short, are exactly what we would expect of a player who is notable in Serbia, as sports news in the area doesn't really do American-style feature stories on players. SportingFlyer T·C 16:52, 28 May 2025 (UTC)

Except for before the break, when goalkeeper Trnić and Benjamin collided while chasing the ball, there was no excitement before the goals, which confirmed what the table shows – the inefficiency of both teams.
As soon as the second half started, the guests were left with a player less, the referee showed a red card to goalkeeper Trnić.
and routine transactional reports likeThen Admir Kecap entered the scene, who on three occasions had more than a reasonable chance, but Trnić managed to prevent the advantage of the home team.
Trnić, who is 18 years old, spent the previous season in Partizan's branch Teleoptik.
there is also the youngster Jovan Trnić who is gaining experience in Teleoptik.

- Moderated BS world Cup Was nominated for Soccer League hall of fame for time with Beach Socer USA national team. According to the Wikipedia page for the 2012 Mundialito de Clubes, a player named “Gil” scored in two separate matches for Vasco da Gama. futsal, a sport with even less media coverage, has documented his national participation as well, as shown in this 2010 report from FutsalPlanet. This supports notability under WP:NATHLETE, which considers athletes who have competed at the highest level of their sport, including international representation. (sourcing for wiki page is needed, research can be done - and found). Wq4m820 (talk) 14:39, 23 May 2025 (UTC)
- The problem is that none of these sources are independent or provide in-depth coverage of him. Svartner (talk) 23:06, 23 May 2025 (UTC)
- Per WP:NATHLETE, SIGCOV is not required in the same manner as WP:GNG. That's Policy. Notability is established by participation at the highest level of competition, including international representation. Oscar Gil’s involvement with the U.S. national beach soccer team and participation in major international tournaments clearly meets this criterion. While stronger independent sourcing would be ideal (and can be worked on accordingly), the current evidence satisfies WP:NATHLETE’s standards for retaining the article. Wq4m820 (talk) 00:20, 24 May 2025 (UTC)
- The actual language in WP:ATHLETE, which is in bold letters, is
The article should provide reliable sources showing that the subject meets the general notability guideline.
JTtheOG (talk) 07:34, 24 May 2025 (UTC) - @Wq4m820, please actually read WP:NSPORTS. All subjects must meet GNG, and all biographies of sportspeople are required to cite an IRS SIGCOV source. JoelleJay (talk) 15:44, 24 May 2025 (UTC)
- Upon rereading WP:NATHLETE in full, I recognize that significant coverage from at least one independent, reliable source is still required. I maintain that Gil’s international participation aligns with the competitive notability standard, but absent a SIGCOV source at this time. - Draftify. ESPN.nl is hardly an independent source, given their extensive contract and mixed finances with Eredivisie Media & Marketing and direct collaboration with the Eredivisie clubs.
Eredivisie Media & Marketing CV was established by the Eredivisie clubs in 2008 to exploit their collective media and sponsorship rights. The company's first major achievement was the launch of the television channel Eredivisie Live, the first owned television channel by clubs in Europe. In 2012, FOX International Channels acquired a majority stake in EMM, and Eredivisie Live was renamed FOX Sports a year later. In 2019, The Walt Disney Company acquired the majority share. Since January 1, 2021, the television channel has been known as ESPN.
With just the AD source I think it's reasonable to draftify until further coverage becomes available. JoelleJay (talk) 18:30, 29 May 2025 (UTC)

- Delete Fails to meet WP:NMMA or WP:ANYBIO. My search of the references in the English article produced essentially the same conclusions as Lekha Moun. I don't see how he meets WP:GNG or any other WP notability criteria. If someone can use WP:THREE and show me how he meets WP:GNG, I will reevaluate my vote. Papaursa (talk) 01:55, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
- Keep You can't just delete an article because the parameters have now changed for Notability. At the time the article was made, they were required to have 3 fights in the UFC. If you're gonna set the precedent of deleting the article of someone with 6 UFC fights. That means that 85% of all fighters who have fought in the UFC need to have their articles deleted too. Also he didn't lose 4 out of his 5 UFC fights. When he went 2-3 with 1 No Contest.Rickyc123 (talk) 11:58, 28 May 2025 (UTC)
- Actually, SNG can be changed at any time by consensus. A few years ago sports notability criteria were significantly changed when participation criteria were removed. In fact, some sports were removed completely from WP:NSPORT. Papaursa (talk) 16:39, 28 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Rickyc123:
You can't just delete an article because the parameters have now changed for Notability.
– This is actually a very common thing. Notability guidelines are often updated for a reason, and if an article doesn't meet whatever new guidelines are established (or GNG if the SNG is removed), then it's perfectly reasonable to nominate an article for deletion. - Comment Bow does meet WP:NMMA, though I don't know how fightmatrix's ranking system works. He beat 6 unranked opponents when he started to get to #6 and finished 1-5 again top 20 fighters. I don't think that one article in a local paper about him winning a minor event qualifies as the multiple, independent, reliable sources mentioned at WP:GNG nor does he meet WP:ANYBIO. I also grant that there may be more coverage of him that hasn't yet been found. Normally I'd default to the view that meeting WP:NMMA is sufficient, but in this case I think I'll abstain. Papaursa (talk) 23:59, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
- Yeah, the guy didn't really beat anyone, has one article in a local paper from before he was a pro, but for whatever reason meets this weird criteria of having been ranked in the top ten at a time when his weight class barely existed, so he barely passes one of the criteria for NMMA... weird. - Thanks for these. The first of these significantly covers him, in an article occasioned by his climb towards a national NASCAR circuit placement. By the third article, written 2 years later, his dreams, it seems, have become a reality. Now these are all in one paper, the Idaho Statesman, and primarily written by the same correspondent: Ray Giffin. The Idaho Statesman is the daily newspaper of Boise, Idaho. We are told he went to school in Meridian Idaho, which is an adjacent conurbation to Boise, so the greater Boise area. This is local interest coverage, although it is significant.GNG requires significant coverage in multiple independent reliable and secondary sources. Multiple articles in a single source like this will count as a single source for GNG. This is especially relevant when the source is of a local nature. So - is there anything else? - Keep There is no indication that @Vanderwaalforces did even a cursory WP:BEFORE search in Japanese WP:NOENG or is competent enough in Japanese to do so. Just the first page of Japanese results include a full-length feature in Motorsport Magazine (which while partially an interview passes for notability), Auto Sport coverage of his Honda Racing School scholarship (also in Chinichi Shimbun), another full feature in JSport, along with regular coverage of his race results. DCsansei (talk) 04:44, 13 May 2025 (UTC)
- @DCsansei Ah, I surely I’m not Japanese neither do I speak the language; so, thank you so much for pointing to those sources. I checked them, and the machine translations I used were pretty competent in giving me an English version; they, I mean all the sources your mentioned, do not contribute to adding a substance of notability for the subject. Winning a school championship does not count in itself at all, and having sources that either fail WP:INDEPENDENT or WP:SIGCOV do not help too. @JTtheOG thoughts? Vanderwaalforces (talk) 06:19, 13 May 2025 (UTC)

- Thfeeder (talk) 04:56, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Thfeeder I’m sorry, but your !vote is baseless in terms of policy as it applies to notability, which is what I am questioning in the first place. You’re telling me I do not have competence in Japanese but you’re not bringing any source to justify your stance. If you are competent, please bring the sources and let us evaluate, that is what AfD is about, not to caste aspersions indirectly. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 05:56, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
- Draftify - I am going to mostly agree with HumanBodyPiloter5 here. It may well be borderline, but we are not at GNG on the sourcing presented so far. The reports that he will participate in FIA is routine announcements of the kind that every racer will get. These are not independent of the subject, because the announcement is not independent, regardless of who repeats it. It is technically primary news reporting, and also excluded on that basis. This can't be used to demonstrate notability on its own. If we accepted this then all F4 drivers would be automatically notable, and there is no consensus for that. So what we need are sources that independently cover the subject. It may also be WP:TOOSOON in that he is much more likely to be notable should he win races. Is there a suitable redirect target? If there is no suitable redirect, then I would suggest we draftify this new page (and this is my !vote for now). We have no evidence of notability, but we have at least the possibility that a deep search in Japanese searches will yield more, and also that he may do well and thus see more coverage. Equally, a very real possibility there are no better sources right now. But if the page creator of this new page can find sources, they could submit through AFC when they have been found. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 08:30, 17 May 2025 (UTC)

- Comment I continue to believe the GNG threshold is met for this article given the three separate sources I've provided. I'm also disappointed by the comment in the relist suggesting that a competent native-language WP:BEFORE is unnecessary. That would only make Wikipedia's systematic-bias problem worse. That said, if editors don't feel that the subject currently merits his own article, I suggest a merge to 2025 F4 Japanese Championship. DCsansei (talk) 05:40, 21 May 2025 (UTC)

Relisting comment: There is an epidemic of Relisting going on at AFD these days do to widely different arguments being put forward and a general decline in numbers of editors participating in deletion discussions but I'm going to relist here because otherwise I see No Consensus and I don't think that result would make anyone satisfied especially editors who are voicing support for draftification. A source analysis can be helpful to get a discussion back on track after several weeks.

- Comment - Source assessment by Sirfurboy - per the relist comment, here is my analysis of the sources we have. Reading the sources deeply, and especially the first two, I believe there may be reason to expect race wins will follow, and thus more publicity, and thus draftification may be in order. I note the merge suggestion by DCsansei, but think that merge there would put undue information on that page. However a redirect to there, preserving this page history in a redirect that can be overwritten should he become notable, is a perfectly good WP:ATD.
- Motorsport - An article about the page subject profiling him and occasioned by the announcement that he will participate in the French F4. Now this is routine coverage of any new driver. They will gain a profile, put out by the team, and published in the appropriate press, when a new driver starts. It stands to reason that they will do this as part of their publicity, but this would only demonstrate notability if, in fact, all drivers are notable. They are not, and that is a consensus view. So what is wrong with the specific source? It is news (primary) and it is publicity put out by the team, so not independent.
- Autosport - News report that he won the racing school Suzuka scholarship. This demonstrates he shows promise, but it is not itself any kind of major race win. Rather it shows that he will get a place as a driver. Where it does not meet GNG is that this is a primary source: it is news reporting of his gaining a scholarship. WP:PRIMARYNEWS has guidance. People are not notable simply for gaining scholarships.
- Chunichi Shimbun - A passing mention. No SIGCOV.
- Jsports - This is an interview, and interviews are not independent and are primary. WP:IV has guidance. The occasion of an interview can be indicative, however. Thus, looking at this one, why is he interviewed? The piece says he
aims to be a champion in the full race for the first time in two years this season.
It is an interview of a hopeful. We could only accept this as in any way indicative of notability if all drivers are automatically notable.

- been told that until there's a reliable source that indicates paragon is a contiuation the undisputed era its own article is for the best for now Imdeadinside12 (talk) 23:48, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Imdeadinside12 What source would that be? Lemonademan22 (talk) 13:08, 28 May 2025 (UTC)
- Isn't that what you said on the Undisputed Era talk page? Imdeadinside12 (talk) 19:21, 28 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Imdeadinside12 Negative. I said it would be a better option to make a seperate article than continue The Undisputed Era one as tha would be original resarch. Lemonademan22 (talk) 19:40, 28 May 2025 (UTC)
- Isn’t that what happened tho? So what’s the proble? Imdeadinside12 (talk) 20:04, 28 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Imdeadinside12 I do not know. I didn't nominate the article for deletion. You would have to ask the nominator that question. Lemonademan22 (talk) 22:14, 28 May 2025 (UTC)

Short-lived faction with little to no significance. Members no longer affiliated according to AEW roster website and probably would not be brought back. BinaryBrainBug (talk) 22:24, 27 May 2025 (UTC)

- Delete I was tempted many times to propose the article. Short lived stable, no in-deep reliable sources about it. I dont know the obsesion of AEW with stables. --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 07:17, 28 May 2025 (UTC)
- There are shorter articles with less significance. This faction technically has not even disbanded, two of the "former" members are wrestling on the same team in a match tonight. All of the former members (except one who works full time in Japan) are still active in AEW. This article shouldn't be anywhere near deletion. SwitchMIX (talk) 22:33, 28 May 2025 (UTC)

- Comment — Alternative weeklies are typically regarded as credible journalistic sources. Are we disregarding that source because of a dead URL? RadioKAOS / Talk to me, Billy / Transmissions 18:35, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
- One source. Per WP:GNG, "multiple sources are generally expected" looking here, there are mostly wikias, reddit and facebook/youtube. --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 19:44, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
