Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Awards
![]() | Points of interest related to Awards on Wikipedia: Category – WikiProject – Alerts – Deletions – Cleanup |
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Awards. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Awards|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Awards. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

An award show put on by a television channel to honor its own shows. Nothing notable about it and the sources available are all unreliable or not independent. CNMall41 (talk) 22:31, 22 May 2025 (UTC)

Non notable film festival. Lacks coverage in independent reliable sources. Ref 3 FilmInk is a press release. Ref 7 Sydney Times is a portion of same. Ref 5 Filmink is PR from MINA, a partner. Mentions in articles about films that showed there is trivial coverage. Notability is not inherited from their ambassadors. duffbeerforme (talk) 08:19, 21 May 2025 (UTC)

- Oppose It is indeed notable, going from strength to strength, and has some big names associated with it. Films made on mobile phones are becoming more common. It is possible and even likely that at least some of the emerging filmmakers who feature in this festival will go on to become major filmmakers in the future. As you can see, I have added more detail and many more citations since the deletion was proposed. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 07:37, 23 May 2025 (UTC)

- Weak delete - Per WP:COVERAGE section at WP:EVENTS, there is enough sources to satisfy the criteria "diversity of sources" but the "depth of coverage" is lacking. The best articles I found are by Exberliner: [1], Hero (British magazine): [2], and Screen Daily: [3]. The "duration of coverage" is also lacking, very difficult to find coverage of the festival in some years. You would think that winners and film line-ups would be regularly reported but seems to be not the case. --Mika1h (talk) 17:40, 23 May 2025 (UTC)
- Maverick Movie Awards (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)

Primary sourced promotion for non notable award farm. Bombarded with name dropping but notability is not inherited. Bombarded with lots of primary sources but lack coverage about the actual award organisation. Prod removed because of incoming links but notability is not inherited from those who get one of their "awards". duffbeerforme (talk) 08:15, 21 May 2025 (UTC)

- Delete: Some mentions in Gbooks [4], but that's all. Gnews, Gsearch and Scholar all come up with nada. Sourcing now in the article is primary or imdb, which is not a RS. Lack of sourcing showing this award would meet notability. Oaktree b (talk) 13:20, 21 May 2025 (UTC)

- (Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL)
Having a separate article for a list of 11 ceremonies (so far) when the parent article is at the size it is is not necessary. Too old for db-10. MSG17 (talk) 14:03, 20 May 2025 (UTC)

- Keep and Redirect - The nominator has merged the list to Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards so this needs to be kept for attribution. Additionally, we have other list articles for award ceremonies so this is a useful redirect as somebody familiar with Wikipedia may look for such a list. -- Whpq (talk) 21:20, 20 May 2025 (UTC)
- My idea was to histmerge and then make it a redirect, but yeah it would be good to just make it a redirect, especially since a separate list article might be more useful 10-15 years down the line. Thanks! MSG17 (talk) 22:05, 20 May 2025 (UTC)

Fails WP:NLIST. Being a distinguished female scientist is not considered especially notable in the 21st century, and there is no notice of such laureates as a group. Breakthrough Prize has a list of all winners (teeny tiny though it may be). Clarityfiend (talk) 10:36, 13 May 2025 (UTC)

- Would keep. Disagree that being a female scientist is not especially notable still. Think if this was true, this would be a much longer list. Hyperbolick (talk) 08:05, 20 May 2025 (UTC)
- Delete Easy enough to look at the lists of winners and spot the female laureates, no need for a duplicative page. No sources that identify this as a separately notable topic. Reywas92Talk 13:40, 20 May 2025 (UTC)

- Keep all. For Big East Conference Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Year, I was easily able to find reliable secondary sources referencing each of the first 20 recipients of this award from 1997 through 2016 and added the references to the table here. There was a plethora of choices from which I was able to select. You will note that many of the references are not simply published lists from press releases but stories that went beyond routine coverage. Also, coverage in newspapers outside the locality of the award winners was present. This is beyond the standard set by WP:NLIST, since each individual entry does not need to be notable. While I suspect the article in this bulk nomination lack in referencing to demonstrate their notability, it is the referencing that is lacking, not the notability. They deserve tags stating such, but they should not be deleted. Taxman1913 (talk) 14:43, 21 May 2025 (UTC)
