Adding a new AfD discussion

Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:

Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Ireland|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.

There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.

Removing a closed AfD discussion

Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.

Other types of discussions

You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Ireland. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.

Keep – Ian Carry meets WP:COACH through notable roles including head coach at NCAA Division I level, interim coach of a national team, goalkeeping coach of a national team, and current head coach of the U.S. Men's Beach Soccer National Team.[1][2] He has held multiple verified coaching and technical[3]positions at national and[4]collegiate levels.[5] The article is not AI-generated and is improvable. Smells Like Saturday

A radio show that briefly ran for 1 year in Ireland 15 years ago. It has been basically unsourced since then only having primary sources from the radio station that aired the show.

Delete. WP:SIGCOV is not met. Professional footballers, even those playing in 1st or 2nd tier national leagues, are not automatically notable. As noted by Spiderone, the only news coverage is in match reports. We do not even have sufficient reliable/independent/verifiable sources to establish basic facts (DOB, etc) - not to mind enough to establish notability. Do not see the point in WP:DRAFTIFYing or other alternatives to deletion (as, seemingly based on prior author actions and recreating/promiting multiple drafts, this is "as good as it gets"....) Delete. Footballers (of any class/level/whatever) are not automatically notable. WP:SIGCOV and WP:NSPORTS need to be met. And, in this case, are not. Don't see point in WP:DRAFTIFYing or other WP:ATDs. Given prior patterns. (Also, while not strictly relevant to AfD and in fear of appearing a little pearl-clutchy, I don't know which is "worse": creating a title on a non-notable child that the author has a connection to - or creating a title with uncited BLP on a minor they don't know). Delete Lacks WP:SIGCOV, this is simply a case of WP:TOOSOON. The problem with adolescent players is what if the kid ends up becoming an accountant, then it is silly that they were ever given a page at all. Henry O'Hagan

Being one of the secretaries of Hugh O'Neill, Earl of Tyrone, doesn't confer notability on its own per WP:NOTINHERITED, and his actions listed in his article appear to be fairly minor. Biographical article not shown to meet WP:GNG or WP:NACADEMIC. Even ignoring the WP:UPE/WP:SOCKing behaviours associated with article's creation (kinda hard to do TBH), my own WP:BEFORE hasn't surfaced sufficient independent sources to support the text of this title (even basics like DOB, POB, etc are unsupported). Not to mind a claim to notability. In terms of WP:GNG, all the biographical sources in the title are either clearly associated with the subject (including two biographical entries from websites associated with the subjects employer, and one interview which doesn't contribute to notability) or ROTM press reporting on a short-lived legal dispute (between the subject and his employer?). A WP:BEFORE search, in national news sources in Ireland, do not return any additional coverage. In short: in the Irish Independent stable of national and regional titles we find a passing mention of the legal case (and nothing else but false positives). On RTÉ news sites we find nothing for variants of subject name. Same goes for Irish Examiner - nothing for either variant.. In the Irish Times the only mentions I can find are the same two sources we find in the article. Nothing more for either variant. While I will admit to not being as familiar with how to apply WP:NACADEMIC, the subject appears to hold a fairly "normal" lecturer/professor role, isn't a named chair or dean or whatever, doesn't appear to be an elected member of a particularly notable scholarly society, and has the same Google Scholar "cited by" stats we might expect for any other working academic/researcher. Am I missing something? If someone hadn't seemingly been WP:PAID to create this article, would it have been created organically - because the subject clearly meets an applicable NBIO criteria? }} Guliolopez (talk) 19:21, 11 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Comment. I looked at this some time ago, as it was associated with some now-blocked accounts with a pretty clear pattern of socking. I brought some of the other articles created by the sock ring to AfD, but did not bring this one. The citation record is reasonably strong as far as WP:NPROF goes, although I believe this to be a higher citation field. The dispute covered by the Irish Times is a WP:BLP1E in addition to only being covered by one reliable source, but it might give some support to an NPROF case. The combination makes me lean a little bit towards keep, if one disregards the paid editing. As far as that goes: while there is some marginal notability, I find it somewhat unlikely that a disinterested editor would choose this person to write an article on. Definite Keep. Ignoring the spotty past, his h-factor at 53 has to be considered as strong. While he does not have articles in Science (journal) or similar, he has published in the top journals in his field. Leaning Delete If there is socking and invloved paid editing and is considered borderline notability, I think all things considered, the subject is not that notable.
