Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/India
| Points of interest related to India on Wikipedia: Outline – History – Portal – Category – WikiProject – Alerts – Deletions – Cleanup – Stubs – Assessment – Style – To-do |
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to India. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|India|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to India. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.
This list is also part of the larger list of deletion debates related to Asia.

WP:BLP of a political figure, not properly sourced as passing WP:NPOL criteria. The attempted notability claim here is that he's been a local political organizer and unelected candidate for legislative office, but those aren't grounds for a Wikipedia article -- the notability test for politicians is holding a notable office, not just running for one. But there's absolutely nothing here, in either the content or the sourcing, to suggest a credible reason why his non-winning candidacy should be seen as more special than other people's non-winning candidacies that didn't get them into Wikipedia. Questionable notability and questionable sourcing. The sources seem to be two categories: wiki-like sources that provide the background information about him and sources covering his death. The former sources (like celebrityborns, whosthat 360) are unable to be used for prove notability as its user submitted content. The latter sources are shaky. Some of them are India celebrity gossip type pieces. A couple are just reposts of each other's articles. The Independent may be the best source among them and it's mostly just a summary from other sources. In a Google News search filtering out articles from the past few days, I see a few interviews with him with travel blogs, but nothing that truly establishes notability. A Business World article reads like a press release. One article that is gossip rag about a social media conflict he was in. None of these pieces show he is notable. - Keep per the significant coverage in multiple independent reliable sources. The subject passes Wikipedia:Notability (people)#Basic criteria, which says:
People are presumed notable if they have received significant coverage in multiple published secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject.
- If the depth of coverage in any given source is not substantial, then multiple independent sources may be combined to demonstrate notability; trivial coverage of a subject by secondary sources is not usually sufficient to establish notability.

Cunard (talk) 07:34, 11 November 2025 (UTC)
- I appreciate the analysis, Cunard. I disagree about the two before-death citations. The Statesman article is written by "Statesman Web" and is gossip rag fodder; The Financial Express one doesn't feel like significant coverage -- that paragraph you've copied here is the entirety of his mention in a broader article about travel social media influencers. When I have a bit more time, I'll look further at the "after his death" analysis. CountryANDWestern (talk) 10:41, 11 November 2025 (UTC)

Delete (or at the bare minimum, draftify pending production of high-quality sources) per WP:V / WP:RS. The article's main claims (that "Neera Arya" was an INA captain, killed her husband to protect Bose, was tortured in the Andamans, etc.) is sourced to (a) a OJS house-journal started in 2021 that is not indexed in DOAJ and lacks independent standing, (b) pop-history/entertainment write-ups, and (c) a privately-run tribute blog (netajisubhasbose.org) that mixes opinionated claims "cited" to social media and self-published sources with unsourced assertations. None of these meet the quality needed for extraordinary, highly specific historical claims.
Meanwhile, reliable institutional resources for Bose/INA - like National Archives of India’s “Netaji Papers” portal (hundreds of declassified files since Jan 2016) and the Netaji Research Bureau (museum/archives/Collected Works) - have no demonstrated, citable, mention of Neera Arya. If such a reference exists, the onus is on !keep votes to produce a concrete file/catalogue ID.
The article further assents an autobiography allegedly initially printed in 1966/1968, but the prints of the autobiography that's verifiable today are 2022-2023 reprints from small presses; and no library catalogue record for a 1960's version has been reported. As it stands, that source claim is WP:CIRCULAR.
For context, verifiably documented INA women like Lakshmi Sahgal (official Govt. condolence acknowledging her INA role) and Saraswathi Rajamani (contemporary Telegraph India report, 2005) are supported by mainstream sources. That level of sourcing is absent here. User:Someone-123-321 (I contribute, Talk page so SineBot will shut up) 13:02, 7 November 2025 (UTC)

- The only thing really notable here seems to be its collapse. I'm not sure that really justifies keeping the article, and I would tend towards delete. Perhaps at a later stage we might be able to see some form of lasting legacy, for example if laws are changed to limit the ways that leagues such as this can be run. But right now it's super-close to the event and I'm not convinced that there is any lasting legacy or real notability. - Keep: The Indian Heaven Premier League meets WP:GNG through multiple independent, reliable sources providing significant, in-depth coverage of both its operational phase and subsequent collapse, rather than mere routine announcements; pre-event reports detail official preparations, including the Divisional Commissioner's review meeting for infrastructure, security, and crowd management expecting 25,000–30,000 spectators at Bakshi Stadium, alongside directives for strict online ticketing to ensure transparency and accessibility [14] [15], while mid-tournament match coverage confirms actual play, such as Chris Gayle's 54 off 42 balls [16]; post-collapse analysis in established outlets substantiates lasting notability under WP:NEVENT, with Economic Times outlining the organizers' abrupt cancellation midway through the 12-match schedule, stranding 70 players, umpires, and staff at the Radisson Collection Hotel over unpaid bills exceeding 5 million rupees and leading to negotiations for release [17], Al Jazeera tracing the timeline from the October 25 opener to the November 1 vanishing by Punjab-based Yuva Society amid sponsorship shortfalls and low attendance tied to local harvest seasons, including British High Commission mediation for affected internationals [18], BBC reporting police registration of a cheating case with interviews from Parvez Rasool on management lapses disheartening local talent and Mellissa Juniper on unpaid participation fees and hotel dues totaling around 5 million rupees [19], and Outlook (Indian magazine) highlighting the stranding of stars including Gayle, Devon Smith, Jesse Ryder, and Shakib Al Hasan at the hotel, raising oversight questions on venue approvals for an inexperienced organizer [20]; this body of secondary sourcing—spanning event setup, execution, and fallout with legal, economic, and regional implications—establishes the topic's standalone encyclopedic value beyond a list entry, particularly as the controversy prompts inquiries into sports event governance in Jammu and Kashmir; while recency warrants caution per WP:TOOSOON, the depth and multiplicity of coverage indicate enduring interest. DMacks properly added a notability template to this just shy of a year ago. Since that time, no one has made any effort to resolve it. It's now time to decide if the article should be deleted.
- No SIGCOV present in article and my BEFORE on Google Books, Google News, JSTOR, and newspapers.com fails to find anything other than incidental mentions of a non-biographical nature.
- The subject does not hold a named chair. The subject has an H-Index of 26. The subject's CV lists two awards, neither of which are sufficiently major to qualify under NPROF. Contested PROD, copying PROD rationale: I see no evidence that this topic is notable. This is yet another "Battle of..." article spun out of descriptions of an entire campaign. There is approximately a sentence of encyclopedic content here that is specific to the named topic, and this content is appropriately covered in an article about the Sikh commander or his campaigns. I see no evidence that this title is used to describe this event, and a redirect is therefore inappropriate. Vanamonde93 (talk) 00:31, 5 November 2025 (UTC)

A minor Hindu conversion organisation, this does not pass WP:NORG. The article currently only has two sources, one of which is promotional. NORG states that, for an organisation to be notable, it has to be substantially covered in-depth by multiple significant, independent, reliable secondary sources, and the article completely fails at that. The temple does not pass WP:NGEO. WP:NBUILD states that a building can only be notable if it has gotten significant in-depth coverage by reliable third party sources. Most sources used in the article are promotional and unreliable. None of the sources listed as generally reliable at WP:RS/PS cover the temple either. NGEO further states that constructions cannot inherit notability and every single source used in the article deals with the founders of the temple and their notability. This article should be deleted. — EarthDude (Talk) 04:06, 2 November 2025 (UTC)

- Keep. There is a ton of scholarly writing, in English, about this temple. It's important to note that this temple has become a political hot spot, due to a tweet. [25]. Chitra Wagh, a part of the BJP party, visited the temple, and tweeted about it and it's relationship to V.D. Savarkar (the translation of her tweet doesn't match the text of the article, the article says she said "he built it" but that's not what her tweet translates as, but I'm not fluent in this language and machine translation is funky.) Members of the BJP party seem to look up to Savarkar. According to the article, the Nationalist Congress Party demanded she apologize, because they believe Keer built the article of his own accord (this is the only source I could find for this point of view, so it appears to be a minority view). Savarkar is a controversial figure with a ton of scholarship, books, and research written about him, but just about everyone agrees he was involved in the building of the temple. It's extremely well sourced in scholarship; what's not well sourced is the idea he wasn't involved. It is an important historical temple tied to breaking down caste barriers, which every source seems to confirm, regardless of how you feel about Savakar's various political points of view throughout his life. Denaar (talk) 05:17, 2 November 2025 (UTC)
- Your argument is not based on policy. We do not consider subjects notable because of random tweets. Once again, you are proving my point here. Instead of attempting to prove the notability of the temple independently, you are trying to prove its notability tied to Savarkar. As per WP:NGEO, Geographical features must be notable on their own merits. They cannot inherit the notability of organizations, people, or events. What you stated in your comment as "So the article is being nominated to remove this inconvenient fact" is nothing more than you WP:CASTINGASPERSIONS and WP:ASSUMINGBADFAITH. Should we now make Wikipedia articles for the countless temples where lower-castes are allowed entry, something which is legally mandated? The article as it exists is filled to the brim with unreliable, promotional, and ideologically aligned sources, so for you to use them to somehow establish notability proves that the temple is not notable. — EarthDude (Talk) 05:31, 2 November 2025 (UTC)
- I have edited my comment based on your feedback. I'll instead ask readers to google the temple, read a few social media posts about the importance of the temple (obviously, not reliable sources) and then review your comment here: [26] and draw their own conclusions. My argument is based on WP:V. Also, WP:SIGCOV says "Significant coverage is more than a trivial mention, but it does not need to be the main topic of the source material." And I'll include my comment here [27] that shows a long list of published books that all mention this temple, in a non-trivial manner. Some of these books are in English and provided online where they can be reviewed by fellow editors for their content. I'll add links to WP:ALLOWEDBIAS and WP:PARTISAN as well. All the sources used are mostly Indian media which just repeat company press release or funding news. There is no proper research or detailed article from strong global source. Company being IPO-bound or having big valuation does not make it notable automatically. Wikipedia need independent coverage, not paid PR type links. It fails both WP:NCORP and WP:CORPDEPTH. Let’s tag it G11 and see if it can be deleted under that, if “every line is sounding like promotion.” It is an Indian company and has operations in India, so obviously it will be covered by Indian media only. The page creator asked me to restore and I've done so, but I'd like the community to have some say whether this subject meets ANYBIO or NACTOR in the present day. - The subject should meet NACTOR that says "The person has had significant roles in multiple notable films, notable television shows, stage performances, or other notable productions"
- Older films like Kaaka Muttai, Radiopetti, Chithiram Pesuthadi 2, and recent films like Regina and Niram Maarum Ulagil are some very notable (the former two being critically acclaimed) films in which he has played a lead/significant role.
- The subject was also once a runner-up in the dance show Maanada Mayilada (mentioned in the page as S4's runner up) which was one of the top dance shows on Tamil television during its time. - Keep: Yes, he passes WP:NACTOR. Nivasadithan1104 (talk) 15:32, 29 October 2025 (UTC)
- Keep: Yes, he seems to pass WP:NACTOR for significant roles in notable productions, which include Kaaka Muttai, Naanga (a film to which his page was once a redirect) and Radiopetti, at least. e.ux 22:00, 25 October 2025 (UTC)
- And his role in Yaadhumagi Nindraai is mentioned as one of the lead roles in https://gulfnews.com/entertainment/south-indian/tamil-film-yaadhumaagi-nindraai-heads-to-a-streaming-platform-1.72220142 ; his role in Regina (2023 film) seems quite significant too -see https://www.filmcompanion.in/news/sunaina-starrer-regina-ott-release-announced#google_vignette. - sources only provided to attest of the importance of the roles for those unfamiliar with those films not to prove notability directly. e.ux 22:06, 25 October 2025 (UTC)

- Delete seems to fail WP:NACTOR. I swear this is like the 3rd time I've seen this. If it ends up being deleted I'd really recommend salting to avoid wasting our time. Chorchapu (talk | edits) 21:20, 2 November 2025 (UTC)
- Keep per the content found in the sources identified by Eva Ux. He is listed as a main cast member in at least three films we have articles on so he does indeed appear to pass criteria 1 of WP:NACTOR. Not sure how the last voter could have voted the way they did given the sources and what they state.4meter4 (talk) 02:39, 9 November 2025 (UTC)

I could not find any significant coverage in sources, there were some mentions in religious guide books or passing mentions in reliable sources, however it was insufficient. There is also confusion since there is not one but other mantra of the same name too. Zalaraz (talk) 09:32, 23 October 2025 (UTC)

Merge 1-2 principle lines to Mantra#Hinduism#Other and Delete: That would be better than a complete deletion. Doesn't qualify for a standalone article due to the lack of SIGCOV and the following GNG failure. But since it is a staple prayer in existence, mentioning it under an umbrella article would be enough.BhikhariInformer (talk) 13:43, 23 October 2025 (UTC)- Delete There are Hindu texts that suggest chanting of mantras, before having food, but worthy of a detailed discussion. So, it is unsurprising that that SIGCOV is not met with. Upd Edit (talk) 12:01, 24 October 2025 (UTC)
Merge and delete per BhikhariInformer, also agree with nom that there's not much info available in secondary sources.EM (talk) 15:40, 24 October 2025 (UTC)
- Merge with Prasada. I've added some more detail to to Bhojan Mantra but I agree that there is not usually more than a passing reference to the mantras recited before a meal in secondary sources. Since the mantras transform the ordinary food into prasada, according to the secondary sources, I think merging with Prasada would be the best fit. The prasada article needs work as it is, so this merge could help improve it. Katiedevi (talk) 23:39, 25 October 2025 (UTC)
- Weak Keep: I am not sure if this meets notability, so weak keep - I see the suggestions above for merge and delete, but not quite sure if the suggested targets are appropriate - e.g. merging to Mantra#Other might not work because seems currently two mantras are noted here, and possibly there are more such? and merging to Prasada may not be right - are these bhojan mantras just for prasada? Not quite sure yet if there is another appropriate page for merge. Asteramellus (talk) 18:48, 26 October 2025 (UTC)
- Keep. In just looking in google books I think there is enough coverage to build a verifiable article of interest. There's are some legal issues of significance as it relates to school prayer in India. For example a law was passed by the Government of Madhya Pradesh in 2010 making it mandatory for school students to say the Bhojan Mantra before meals (see [36], [37],) which of course creates problems for students of other religions (such as Muslim students). The Government of Rajasthan also considered passing a law mandating the prayer before meals at the roughly 500 youth hostels in its jurisdiction ([38]). On page 223 of Sarto Esteves's 2002 book Freedom to Build, Not Destroy: Attacks on Christians and Their Institutions states that Christian schools have been forced to recite the Bhojan Mantra because the laws make no religious exemptions for institutions based in other faiths. He views this as an attack by the state on Christian institutions in India. Best.4meter4 (talk) 20:06, 30 October 2025 (UTC)
- These are passing mentions only, the coverage is not significant. Zalaraz (talk) 11:56, 1 November 2025 (UTC)

- Uninvolved admin comment: Merge and delete creates problems with our CC license. I would ask Eucalyptusmint and BhikhariInformer to clarify their !votes. Thanks and best, Barkeep49 (talk) 04:51, 2 November 2025 (UTC)
- Keep per 4meter4's comment. Changing my vote owing to the CC issue mentioned above. Thanks to Barkeep49 for pinging me, I was unaware about this Merge and delete page. BhikhariInformer (talk) 14:45, 2 November 2025 (UTC)
- Merge with Prayer in Hinduism which seems more appropriate since the bhojan mantra is about a hindu prayer recited before meals than about the food itself, prasada is about sanctified food (per the page). Also, Barkeep49 have noted your comment. EM (talk) 18:04, 2 November 2025 (UTC)
