Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/India
![]() | Points of interest related to India on Wikipedia: Outline – History – Portal – Category – WikiProject – Alerts – Deletions – Cleanup – Stubs – Assessment – Style – To-do |
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to India. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|India|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to India. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.
This list is also part of the larger list of deletion debates related to Asia.

Renominating, as the previous AfD from two weeks ago resulted in a "soft delete" following which the author requested undeletion. "Independent content", in order to count towards establishing notability, must include original and independent opinion, analysis, investigation, and fact checking that are clearly attributable to a source unaffiliated to the subject. The most surprising thing is accepting this article which is a clear failure of WP:NBAD and WP:GNG. The statement under WP:NBAD states "Medalist at the Grand Prix Gold or BWF World Tour" which this player is nowhere near of. We have been constantly getting articles like Draft:Revati Devasthale for example, which has even won a international event, incomparable to this subject Dilshad and yet the article has not been accepted because the reviewers rightly say that this article doesn't pass the guidelines.
Luckily somehow this article remains an exception, which has not even won an international event, let alone any BWF grand prix or world tour event. His highest achievement is the "bronze medal" at Lagos which doesn't qualify as podium finish under badminton guidelines and other achievements are far more undeserving of an individual article in wikipedia which are all confined to University or State level competitions.
One more thing, I tagged this article on [July 26 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:MobileDiff/1167174506] with notability concerns. This player, who has been inactive on the circuit for years, somewhow gets all his bio or coverage, almost a month later (24/August/2023), in an unreliable source - Up18 based in Uttar Pradesh. What concerns me is if this news agency is paid to write something about this subject, largely unknown, not even close to some low tier players of India competing in International Circuit and winning some series/challenger events.
I request you all to please kindly read about this article and carefully vote because there are already a lot of concerns about this player's notability.
Note of caution to creator User:Syed Sadique Hussain, don't spam like you did in the earlier Afd as it disrupts the flow and for your ease I have covered all the sources you could get for this player. Thankyou. zoglophie 06:15, 6 September 2023 (UTC)

- I believe that User:Zoglophie has some problem with me. Not only he was rude with me during, the 1st nomination of deletion for this article. he was also disrespectful against the administrator User:Ritchie333 who gave the no consensus motion for the 1st nomination and started arguing with him as well. He has clear conflict of interest and doesn't want this article to be in Wikipedia literally. Here is the archive chat for that -[6]
- I would also suggest the Wikipedia community to go through the complete chat for the 1st nomination and specially after it was relisted.
- With regards to Dilshad he is a bronze medallist in a international event, former team captain of the Indian team, and several of his opponents and teammates have their own articles. and i would like to point out that he won a national-level university championship for a major country and then a state-level tournament for a jurisdiction which by itself would be comparable to a fairly major country.
- Also i would like to point out that Mr Dilshad and his partner where ban by the Kerala badminton Assocation because they complain about the association in media that they were treated unfairly by them which jeopardise Dilshad's career after the controversy. And in India specially in badminton there are limited amount of players that has achieve medal in international event as compared to the population they have. so, media does like to hear about people who have a controversial career. so, news article does pop - up every year.
- And who said that this player is inactive huh? here is this details that he has been playing.. the last match he played according to the official badminton website was in 2022 in INFOSYS FOUNDATION India International Challenge 2022 -[7]
- Please, do not add false information in the discussion that he hasn't played in years!
- Mr Zoglophile is taking this personally and he is taking the rules too strictly. i would like to remind him of WP:Ignore all rules policy where the focus of the article should be for improvement and written in an neutral point of view not to implement rule on everything that he sees ..which is exactly what he is doing right now.. i wrote this article following the rules and guidleines of wikipedia best to my knowledge. So, what mistake have i done?... see in this case - WP:NOTFATRAT should be implemented.. Wikipedia is an information-based place where things are written in neutral point of view and it should be information based only. that is how i wrote.

- comment - I would like to mention that the 8th reference that the nominator has mentioned which he was not able to access (which i don't know why because it was accessible from the very beginning) has significant coverage of the badminton player - Rayan, Stan (2009). "Dilshad: Making good progress" (PDF). The Hindu. p. 1. and it is a reliable source since it was published in the Hindu newspaper. additionally, i am attaching the link as well- https://www.udrop.com/KJzn/Dilshad_making_good_progress.pdf?download_token=aa5d49e6d05bf4e4ce85e67eb68cd3719f07553b48d32ac45ab91524c11594fc it can be access directly from the link. Additionally, i checked WP:RS/P with regards to up 18 news and it is no where mentioned that it is an unreliable source as a matter of fact the article has significant coverage of the player that details about alot of other things ... only a smaller part of it is mentioned in Wikipedia and even if the article doesn't exist still there are multiple secondary and tertiary source that act as evidence which are to prove what is written in Wikipedia about this person ... so, on what basis the nominator is calling it unreliable is controversial. before he accuse me of socketpupptary and now he is accusing of this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Syed Sadique Hussain (talk • contribs) 15:27, 6 September 2023 (UTC)

- his old Afd vote: he is a medalist, former team captain, and several of his opponents and teammates have their own articles. Sufficiently notable and with good ref coverage. Just to remind everyone else that this user claims to be an inclusionist in his user page, which may affect their rational decision making and possibly disrupting the consensus building. We should be mindful of users who are here only to halt the process of deleting articles unworthy to Encyclopedia's standards. zoglophie 19:19, 6 September 2023 (UTC)
- I do not really have any personal dispute with you really, but inclusionism does not seem against encyclopedia development. Rather, there was no real need to relitigate after your previous AFD from June and the following DRV where there was consensus to endorse the outcome. - Indefensible (talk) 23:04, 6 September 2023 (UTC)

- User:Indefensible, we are not talking in personal terms here, atleast I'm not interested. But there was no consensus before and large part or it was responsible for the discussion already happened which prompted the admin to close the Afd. Just so you know, I can always relitigate the Afd afterwards.
- Your vote before was also not policy based, you were silent on the question I raised in previous Afd. Your vote here too is also dubious which is where Inclusionism - practice of saving unworthy articles comes in play. Thankyou. zoglophie 04:44, 7 September 2023 (UTC)
- What should be included or not is largely subjective opinion depending on both the interpretation of policy and the development of policy itself. If you characterize all of inclusionism as contrary to "rational decision making," that is a strawman argument which is stupid frankly. Also you said that I did not understand policies such as WP:GNG, however that is ad hominem and purely your subjective opinion. It was not worth responding to. - Indefensible (talk) 05:20, 7 September 2023 (UTC)
- Zoglophie, there is nothing wrong with having inclusionistic leanings just like there is nothing preferable and virtuous about tending towards deletionism. It depends on the article and the sourcing. Please do not attack editors again like you did during this AFD, it is incivil and will result in a block next time. There is no reason to get so worked up about having a difference of opinion with another editor, it happens on a daily basis here and while you don't have to agree you have to respect other editors. I'm so disappointed that I'll leave this AFD for another closer to handle. Liz Read! Talk! 07:11, 13 September 2023 (UTC)

- All those points are fine and dandy, but we need articles about the person, not just listings in a database or a few lines in an article about something else. We can have articles on anything under the sun, from tiktok memes to food dishes to WW2 extermination camps to serial killers, but they all must have extensive sourcing about the "thing". Oaktree b (talk) 20:00, 14 September 2023 (UTC)
- Delete 1) per GNG: there is no significant coverage article about the person. per nom all the sources came from database and only a trivial mention. 2) per WP:NBAD clearly state tht notability for badminton players if they had a podium finish at tournaments of the BWF Grand Prix Gold and Grand Prix (until 2017) or the BWF World Tour or Super 100 level (from 2018 onwards). And fyi, the international tournament won by Dilshad Kamaludheen is a lower grade in badminton tournament (see the example of badminton tournament structure here--> 2023 BWF season, the Lagos International not a part of BWF Grand Prix Gold and Grand Prix or BWF World Tour. 3) still in WP:NBAD: there are only the winner and the runner-up who step on the podium in BWF Grand Prix Gold and Grand Prix (until 2017) or the BWF World Tour or Super 100 level (from 2018 onwards). So, how come the semi-finalists in the lower grade of badminton tournament meets the notability. 4) Never enter top 100 in the Badminton World Federation ranking. 5) Never competed in the BWF World Championships. 6) Never won the Indian National Badminton Championships. I hope User:Timothytyy can help and explain more about this.. Thanks Stvbastian (talk) 16:58, 7 September 2023 (UTC)
- Weak delete Syed Sadique Hussain Sorry but under the current situation the article doesn't pass GNG and SNG. Even if you think the player has remarkable achievements, notability is based on SIGCOV and not how good are the subject's achievements. The reason I put "weak" is because we have difficulty in accessing and assessing the source, but after all, we cannot postpone a discussion just because of a single source. If you believe that you can find more reliable sources that provides independent SIGCOV to the subject, feel free to request draftification here or create a userpage with the same content and we will support you to develop a guideline-passing article. Regarding the nom, I admit that the user should have assumed good faith for all editors, including the ones who opposes the user's views but did not violate any conduct policies. The user has insisted on not dropping the stick, which may be considered as disruptive editing if the user fails to understand that there has been strong consensus on endorsing the first nomination's result. On the other hand, Indefensible should not have used a previous AfD/DRV outcome as an elaboration for a keep vote; after all, no consensus doesn't theoretically mean that it passes the guidelines, and consesnsus can change. I personally had some conflicts with the nominator quite a long time ago, but you should try to understand the user's stance, and that the user is just trying to do his job by nominating an article for deletion which fails GNG and SNG. I understand the nom's frustration that the article is still not deleted for a long time since his first nomination, but the nom should not have been that harsh anyway, so apologies for the user's irritating behavior towards you. - Keep: Firstly, as nominator mentioned, Deepak Kalal falls under WP:BLP1E, signifying that his biography predominantly revolves around a single significant event. You cited his fame for marrying Bollywood actress Rakhi Sawant and for his video titled 'Modiji, main aapko pappi dunga,' which, interestingly, highlights his presence in two distinct events. This raises a question about the validity of the nomination. Nevertheless, I am open to engaging in a discussion to uphold Wikipedia's notability guidelines.
It's worth noting that Deepak Kalal had achieved notability even before his association with Rakhi Sawant. He garnered attention when he was featured in news reports, such as when he was beaten up, as reported by Times of India and India.com. Additionally, he received media coverage regarding his expected participation in the TV show Bigg Boss, as highlighted here.
Multiple occasions saw Deepak Kalal featured in various news outlets, including here, here, here, here, here, and here, as well as here. These examples, among others, demonstrate a consistent presence in reliable sources, solidifying his status as a viral internet sensation. Deepak Kalal's notability unquestionably aligns with WP:SIGCOV and WP:GNG.Thank you. ❯❯❯ Chunky aka Al Kashmiri (✍️) 16:00, 5 September 2023 (UTC)
- Marrying Rakhi Sawant was one significant event that was covered by some gossip news sites, and
'Modiji, main aapko pappi dunga
was a regular video that garnered more views than his other videos. It's important to distinguish between being famous and being notable. He was beaten by the public for his crazy acts, and I don't believe he deserves a standalone article for this. His stint on the Bigg Boss show lasted only 24 hours, during which he was covered by some daily updates and gossip media websites. Regarding the Indian Express source, it's a brief list where Deepak Kalal is mentioned only once, and this doesn't provide SIGCOV. As for the India Today source, it's reliable and thoroughly covers the topic (SIGCOV). However, it's essential to understand that meeting the GNG requires more than three sources. - Comment: Based on the guidelines outlined in WP:GNG, WP:SIGCOV, and the definition of a "Reliable source," I have conducted an evaluation of the notability of the subject, Deepak Kalal. The following table summarizes the coverage of Deepak Kalal in reliable sources:
As per this evaluation, Deepak Kalal meets the notability criteria for a stand-alone article, having received significant coverage in multiple reliable sources that are independent of the subject. This coverage spans from 2017 to the present day and encompasses various aspects of his public life, including his association with Rakhi Sawant, appearances in India's Got Talent, and more.
Thank you. ❯❯❯ Chunky aka Al Kashmiri (✍️) 03:18, 7 September 2023 (UTC)

- It's just human nature that if someone acts out of line with someone else, things might escalate to physical confrontation. Maybe take another look at the titles of those two sources to see that Deepak Kalal didn't get beaten up because he was famous, but rather due to his misbehavior. - Comment I went through all the sources in the table added by TheChunky, and anyone can verify their titles and content, which primarily revolve around gossip, updates, and rumors concerning Rakhi Sawant and Deepak Kalal's marriage.
Analysis of the sources table added by TheChunky |
---|
The first source comes from India Today and was posted by the India Today Web Desk. It doesn't have a specific author, so we can't really consider it reliable. Furthermore, this source is all about Rakhi Sawant's marriage, which falls into the WP:BLP1E category, as I pointed out during the nomination. |
As for the second source, it's also from India Today, and I mentioned in my previous response that it's a reliable one. |
The third source is an update from PTC Punjabi. |
The fourth source is from Women's Era, and the fifth and sixth sources are sources from ABP News, with the seventh source being from Latestly. They all contain gossip about Rakhi Sawant and Deepak Kalal's marriage, so they fit under the WP:BLP1E sources category. |
Next up, we have the source from Firstpost, the ninth one from India TV, and the tenth source from News18. These are tag links where Deepak Kalal was tagged, and all the articles in that tag are gossip and rumors about Rakhi Sawant's marriage. |
The eleventh source is from India TV, and it is also a gossip and update about Rakhi Sawant and Deepak Kalal. |
The twelfth source from NDTV is a video update. |
Finally, the last source, from DNA, is also gossip or an update about Rakhi Sawant and Deepak Kalal's marriage. |
Almost all the sources are about the marriage of Rakhi Sawant and Deepak Kalal, as I mentioned in the nomination. Deepak Kalal was in the news for marrying Rakhi Sawant, which clearly falls into the WP:BLP1E category. 𝙳𝚛𝚎𝚊𝚖𝚁𝚒𝚖𝚖𝚎𝚛 𝚍𝚒𝚜𝚌𝚞𝚜𝚜 11:57, 7 September 2023 (UTC)

- Delete, making an appearance on a talent show (India's Got Talent) and pulling stunts which will obviously result in physical altercation thus making gossip news with headings such as "All you need to know about..." does not signify notability (or pass WP:RS) as the subject did not win the show and was not a runner-up. Further more, I noticed the opening statement of the subject's article says he's an actor (an occupation which comes first) but there's nothing mentioned of him portraying any role other than that of a talent show. It reads that he was featured in various popular songs and albums of which are not listed and the only musical composition mentioned is a song titled "Next Level" which also does not appear to be notable as it does not have any certificate. As far as my research goes, the subject does not have any award nor nomination listed under his name to back his career as either actor, content creator nor musician, he made news for his marriage and making public appearance(s) with his companion. shelovesneo (talk) 20:47, 10 September 2023 (UTC)

This is a person who has no coverage in reliable sources in English. A Google search for Santa Das Kathiababa produced six results, including three Youtube videos, and two Facebook pages. The article has ten "citations": three of these are to Wikipedia pages, and three to www.exoticindiaart.com. -- Toddy1 (talk) 08:25, 5 September 2023 (UTC)
It is also a recreation of an article that was previously deleted, both as a result of deletion discussions, and as a result of speedy deletions (see User talk:Srabanta Deb). (Sorry I did not spot this earlier.) -- Toddy1 (talk) 08:48, 5 September 2023 (UTC)
- Srabanta Deb has added more citations since the above was written. I read at the first four using Google translate: 1, 3, and 4 were just padding, and do not seem to support anything; 2 does support content - some of the sentences in the article were copied and pasted from the Google translation without attribution. Source 2 is sanatantv-live; this is not an independent source; whether the information in sanatantv-live about his legal career is true or not would need to be confirmed by secular sources.-- Toddy1 (talk) 06:54, 9 September 2023 (UTC)

Information on Wikipedia must be verifiable; if no reliable, independent sources can be found on a topic, then it should not have a separate article.
I searched on Google to try to find reliable sources on the topic, but I could not find any. The Wikipedia article you have created for the nth time only has one source that I consider plausible, an article in The Telegraph (India), Janmashtami at ashram, by Dalia Mukherjee, 22 August 2014, but all the information about Santa Das Kathiababa in the article was provided by Joydeb Kumar Sarkar, the secretary of the ashram. - Can you guarantee that individual SIGCOV will be provided to those two stations? Because even operational stations don't have individual coverage according to my research. As every article contains similar information, it would be a nice choice to add the information to the metro line's article. That would be more organized while it does pass GNG. - The sources provided do not provide individual SIGCOV. For example, the sources you provided in Benniganahalli metro station are just coverage about the line, not the station. Check Cockfosters tube station for an idea about individual SIGCOV. Timothytyy (talk) 06:13, 27 September 2023 (UTC)

- After some discussion, I propose the following:
- Redirect Benniganahalli metro station, Challaghatta metro station to Purple Line (Namma Metro)
- Redirect Bopodi metro station, Dapodi metro station to Purple Line (Pune Metro)
- Redirect Lower Malad metro station, Lower Oshiwara metro station, Malad West metro station, Oshiwara metro station and Valnai metro station to Line 2 (Mumbai Metro)
- Redirect Mangalwar Peth metro station, Ruby Hall Clinic metro station to Aqua Line (Pune Metro)
- Keep PMC Bhavan metro station and Shivaji Nagar metro station (Pune)
- Need consensus on Chhatrapati Sambhaji Udyan metro station and Deccan Gymkhana metro station about whether source 3 contributes to GNG
- Merge Pune Railway Station metro station into Pune Junction railway station
Any objections? Timothytyy (talk) 10:29, 17 September 2023 (UTC)
- Keep all. As evident from Timothy's latest comments, each station is its own case and deserves a serious discussion. Rather than a bulk nomination, perhaps nominate one station where you believe that you might have a case? gidonb (talk) 14:39, 17 September 2023 (UTC)
- Keep all. Tube stations in other parts of the world have articles on them (e.g. Oxford Circus tube station), so I do not see why Indian tube stations are automatically non-notable. What does not help are editors who think that "only now counts" and delete citations to events like stations opening, etc. Over time it will be possible for articles on Indian tube stations to grow. Destroying the "seed corn" articles prevents this from happening.-- Toddy1 (talk) 16:30, 17 September 2023 (UTC)
- I second that. Information available about the stations will continue to grow as the time progresses and thus help in article improvement. - DesiBoy101 (talk) 03:15, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Toddy1 Invalid comment. You cannot assume notability of one article by comparing it with other articles; after all, Tube stations have a long history and there is sufficient SIGCOV; however, no individual coverage is provided for Indian metro stations, at least according to my research. @Gidonb, as you can see, most articles can be redirected, only some need further consensus and some have been improved, so I don't see why "each station is its own case and deserves a serious discussion". To me they are all very similar (except the two articles which have been expanded after my nomination). The merge is equivalent to a redirection. The difference in redirection target doesn't mean that there should be separate discussions, as all targets are similar in nature. Timothytyy (talk) 11:22, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- I disagree that we can go out with a broad brush and claim that metro stations in different cities and even states resemble each other, just because all are in India. Each station would need to be discussed on its own merrits (i.e. the existence of sources per WP:NEXIST, NOT the current state of sourcing) and I will warn upfront that I am going to be lenient with sources as we have a MAJOR problem with equity in coverage between developed and developing nations, alongside a real problem with sources in developing nations. That said, I would like to be constructive. YOUR BEST CASE here is to merge Pune Railway Station metro station into Pune Junction railway station. I'm happy to get behind that! gidonb (talk) 07:46, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
- I understand your frustration, the articles about Chinese stations created by me also got redirected because few Chinese sources are defined as reliable (e.g. WeChat and Sina are the major news sources, but unfortunately they aren't reliable). Frustrations aside, I still need to uphold the guidelines. The articles fail GNG; you cannot disprove that (unless you can provide SIGCOV, even local sources are ok, in that case welcome). You mentioned NEXIST; however, I cannot find any independent reliable coverage of the stations. WP:TRAINSTATION, an SNG, has long been deprecated. Also, I don't see any harm of removing articles with no extra information; the articles I nominated are almost identical, and readers cannot get any useful information out of it other than a few specific parameters which may not interest most readers, not backed up by RS, and can be shown in a list of stations. After all, Wikipedia strives for quality, not quantity. Timothytyy (talk) 12:42, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
- I subscribe to these policies, well before yet another passionate response ;-) If you feel that there is a strong case somewhere hidden among all these metro stations in different cities and states, you could go ahead and nominate that station. gidonb (talk) 13:36, 22 September 2023 (UTC)
- Keep all - Not only is this far too many articles for a batch AfD, but major metro stations of a major metropolitan city are inherently notable. It is impossible for there not to be extensive government reports, surveys, budgets and other records on such projects. As mentioned above we have articles on stations of every other major city. I honestly doubt anyone would even think of AfDing any of the similar London Underground, Berlin U-Bahn or Paris Metro stations. Is this a case of systemic bias? Oakshade (talk) 03:24, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
- Your comment is WP:OTHERSTUFF. Articles exist not because of inherited notability but because of coverage. If you cannot provide SIGCOV about those stations, they fail GNG and I see no reason to keep them. Timothytyy (talk) 09:54, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
- Timothytyy, you have had your say. There is no need for you to sandwich everybody else's comment with an explanation of why you disagree with them.-- Toddy1 (talk) 12:16, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Toddy1 Do you think your stance is supported by relevant guidelines? You don't seem to understand how notability works. No users supporting keeping provided a valid criterion; you two's comments are just nice examples of OTHERSTUFF votes. Timothytyy (talk) 12:51, 20 September 2023 (UTC)

Relisting comment: Editors are divided between Redirection and Keeping articles and there is an underlying critique from some editors of such a large bundled nomination.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, Liz Read! Talk! 05:08, 24 September 2023 (UTC)
- I suppose it's apropos that a discussion about metro stations may end in a trainwreck. In lieu of source hunting or verifying, which is hard in such cases, I'm going to suggest Keep all because of
- Multiple have notability established at this point.
- One editor was !voting redirect in hopes of quickly restoring several that may have SIGCOV.
- One editor is concerned about WP:NOTTEMPORARY and removal of references.
- Other implicity trainwreck !votes.
- Good faith nominator got pinged back a couple times, and is now accidentally bludgeoning the discussion, unfortunately making it even harder to follow for every new editor to arrive here, meaning I don't think the situation is going to improve at this point.
- Keep all per all keep votes above. These should not be bundled into a single nomination but judged on individual merits. -- Necrothesp (talk) 10:08, 26 September 2023 (UTC)
- Keep all as a bad bundle, with no prejudice to re-AfDing in a more individual fashion. Bundling stations from different lines and especially different cities is highly likely to not succeed. AfDs that bundle stations only from one line in my opinion will product the most significant results. Jumpytoo Talk 04:27, 27 September 2023 (UTC)

Bihar Times does not have substantial coverage in credible and independent sources, which renders it insufficiently notable for inclusion on Wikipedia. It Fails WP:NMEDIA and WP:GNG.
Furthermore, the initial website that was mentioned in article 'bihartimes.in' redirects to an unknown spam link, casting doubt on its legitimacy as a reliable news portal. Saurabh{Talk} 00:54, 31 August 2023 (UTC)

It's real, now we need to see whether it's notable. EDIT: Okay, I checked around and it looks like a newspaper called Bihar Times has been around since 1894 but fell into disrepair in recent years: [13] But according to the Wikipedia article's current sources, these might be two different publications [14]. - "Balotra News" is a notable and relevant topic, it should have a Wikipedia page. Notability can be established if there are reliable sources and references to support its significance. Deleting such a page would deprive readers of valuable information. Moxrathorebalotra (talk) 17:26, 9 September 2023 (UTC)
- Delete - Material online appears to be largely promotional/non-independent in nature. The sources in the article are insufficient, and I can't see coverage elsewhere that would indicate notability by WP:GNG or any other standard. Also not finding references to stories picked up from Balotra in larger, reliable Indian news soures. —Ganesha811 (talk) 18:48, 5 September 2023 (UTC)
- Deleting the Wikipedia page of Balotra News would deprive people of access to information about this important news source in their own language. Not everyone is fluent in English, and the Wikipedia page for Balotra News is available in several other languages, including Hindi, Urdu, and Gujarati. Deleting the English page would make it more difficult for people who do not speak English to access information about this news outlet. Wikipedia has a couple of similar directory-like articles, such as List of Christian denominations in India. However, per WP:NOTDIRECTORY, this list's assemblage of denominations and local jurisdictions within those denominations appears to be novel. Sourcing does not indicate that delineating these denominations as present in Northeast India specifically is merited, with references dedicated more towards identifying congregants in individual ecclesiastical jurisdictions (constituting, in my opinion, original research). ~ Pbritti (talk) 23:10, 26 August 2023 (UTC)

- Weak keep As well as the sources mentioned by Mozzcircuit, IndiaFilings has also been covered by The Times of India. Some of the sources in the article seem a little promotional/frivolous, especially the paywalled Economic Times articles, but generally I think this company has just about enough significant reliable coverage to warrant an article, unless non-independence of sources can be proven. pinktoebeans (talk) 14:02, 29 August 2023 (UTC)
- The Times of India source is basically the press release from [17] with some VERY minor changes. If this had been pasted into an article here, it would have been reverted and rev-deleted as a copyright violation. It's published on TOI, but it's just a press release. Non notable family. One of the members of this family V. K. Krishna Menon was a notable figure, but that does not mean the family becomes notable by association. No references provided in the page since it was created ages ago and none found on a search as well, indicating our notability standards are not met. Was created by an editor who has spent considerable time editing V. K. Krishna Menon indicating that they may somehow be associated with the subject of this article (probably a member of the family). - References seem easy enough to find? Cf:
- "The frontiers of expansion of cultivation were set by the dominant landowning tharavadus like those of the Vengayil Nayanar, who held two lakh acres of land"
- "This steady intrusion on the forests had two consequences. First, it brought the new breed of cultivators into competition with the tribal groups practising slash-and-burn cultivation of hill rice. Secondly, it brought to light the existence of bonded labour-both tribal and untouchable caste - in what had been remote fast nesses penetrated only by the overseers of dominant tharavadus like Kalliatty and Vengayil. In 1939, a delegation of the All India Students’ Federation visiting north east Chirakkal had to inform the tribal inhabitants that it was the British and not the Vengayil Nayanar who ruled the country.72"
- "One of the most illustrious Nayar tharavadus of north Malabar is Kodoth in what is now the Kasargod district of Kerala. The Kodoth family practiced hypergamy. In fact, the famous Vengalil family headquartered near Calicut was formed when a girl of the Kodoth family entered into a sambandham union with a Thirumulpad."
- "The family papers of Koodali Thazhathu Veedu show that the family had maintained marriage relations with almost all major landowning tarawads of the region like the Kalliat family, Vengalil family..."
- "A 3000-strong jatha marched from Korome, Erima and other places to meet their landlord, the Vengayil Valia Nayanar in October 1938. After a discussion lasting three hours the jenmi agreed to give up the important feudal levies like vast and nuri and to use the standard measure for rent in kind... The early peasant jathas were directed at some of the biggest landlords of Malabar. The Chirakkal Raja's family owned about 30,000 acres; the Vengayil Nayanar family owned over 200,000 acres, including forest lands; the Kurumathoor Namboodiripad owned 5615 acres and the Kalliat jenmi had 36,779 acres in his possession.
- "Out of the 689.17 acres of land owned by the temple 589.07 acres were held on lease by one single family, the family of Vengayil Nayanar, a prominent landowning family of North Malabar."
- References seem easy enough to find? Cf:
- These are all from academic sources unconcerned with Krishna Menon, which recurrently call the family "dominant", "prominent", "major", "famous", and so on.
- Meanwhile, maintaining that VK Krishna Menon is the only notable member of the family is also bizarre. VK Nayanar more or less invented the short story and satire in Malayalam and is canonically one of the most influential figures in Malayalam literature. VK Chinnammalu Amma was a central figure in Malayali feminism and literature. Raman Menon was the Dewan of Travancore. VA Janaki was the chair of the geography department at Baroda College/Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda and a leading Indian geographer, especially of Kerala. All are discussed as such in the literature. It's not clear to me how exactly Sir C.P. Ramaswami Iyer is related to the Vengalils, but he's definitely notable. Etc. 2806:107E:15:1C4A:482E:D3E6:D000:7389 (talk) 02:09, 22 August 2023 (UTC)
- It is unclear where you are quoting these lines from. Having 1-2 notable people like Vengayil Kunhiraman Nayanar and V. K. Krishna Menon does not make the family notable. Also, the entire country was ruled over by many feudal vassals in the 1800s. None of these references indicate that the family was any better than the other feudal landlords who also owned lands. - I completely agree with you. It looks as though the author of this article was trying to pen down his egoistic thoughts into wiki. Just 2 or 3 notable members from the family does not make the family themselves notable(Also Vengayil kunhiraman nayanar was from the vengayil family, which is another family. The Vengalil's were a Menon family). There were many menon families who related to royals of kerala by marriage and this seems like an advertising campaign for the family. In addition to that, as you mentioned, there are no proper sources. Many such Menon families like the Ankarath, Vadakke kuruppath, Ambat etc. were equally wealthy and produced eminent personalities but I don't see them having a separate wiki page. Like I mentioned in the Talk page, this article needs to strictly kept to family discussions and blogs rather than on Wikipedia. I completely agree with you on the deletion of this article from Wikipedia. Pedia.01110 (talk) 05:34, 27 August 2023 (UTC)

- Delete per WP:SIGCOV, WP:RS, WP:MILL, and WP:NOTINHERITED. The argument for "keep" appears to be that there have been books written about the family, without evidence that this is significant coverage, or that the books themselves are reliable sources. By all accounts, this is a run of the mill, land-owning caste or clan. With the exception of Presidential families or very well-known celebrities, families of even famous or notable people are not by themselves notable as a group, and arguments otherwise are untenable, based on 20-plus tears of precedent here at AfD. Non-notable family. The article is about a family, and should not be confused with Poomulli Mana which is their house. The house has been attracting some attention as a tourist and healthcare destination, but I do not think it still would be enough to qualify our WP:N standards, and there is definitely not enough material on the family anyway. The last AFD ages ago was probably hijacked by members of the family who mass-voted to keep this. This article probably serves to market their health care facilities as the Wikipedia page shows up on search results and a link to the Wikipedia page is also provided on their website - [27] Jupitus Smart 13:30, 19 August 2023 (UTC)

- Delete, but a reluctant one. The article as it stands is effectively unsourced since everything fails verification. I have to agree with the nom that, as written, it reads as either WP:PROMO or WP:CRUFT. That said, it does not warrant SALT, as it is entirely possible that an encylopaedic article could be written. It could clear GNG if the dubious content of the article turns out to be correct, and gScholar shows a dozen possible leads to good info. Cheers, Last1in (talk) 20:02, 20 August 2023 (UTC)
