Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Islam

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Islam. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Islam|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Islam. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.

Searches did not turn up enough in-depth coverage from independent, reliable sources to support meeting WP:GNG. Onel5969 TT me 19:15, 12 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Islamic monarchy (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)

This article, as it is, is simple WP:OR and has been completely unsourced throughout its existence. There is no such thing as an "Islamic monarcy", as distinct from other types of monarchy, just as there is no specific blanket concept of "Christian monarchy" or "Hindu monarchy" versus other monarchies. No reliable references I've seen make that argument, and indeed some make arguments of continuity between Muslim monarchies and other historical traditions of monarchy (e.g. [1]). There are specific instances and ideologies of monarchy in present-day and past Islamic societies, but they have many differences and do not together form a cohesive and distinct concept known as "Islamic monarchy".

There could certainly be a valid topic in something like Monarchy in Islam, which could discuss the concept of monarchical rule in relation to Islamic religion and political thought and for which there are useful sources (e.g. [2], [3]), but that would be a completely different article. If anyone wants to start that article now, we could redirect this there instead. Otherwise, the best course of action is to delete. At best, maybe this could be a DAB page for terms like Emirate, Sultanate, Caliphate, but even that sounds a little silly, as these things are simply covered (or should be) at Monarchy. Keep should have been an article and can be improved, there are many Muslim countries with monarchies or Democracies Shaahaajaahaan (talk) 12:44, 9 July 2025 (UTC) Shaahaajaahaan (talk · contribs) is a confirmed sock puppet of Aniruddhchaudhuy (talk · contribs). [reply]
That does not address the points above. The fact that there are Muslim-majority countries with monarchies does not clarify that "Islamic monarchy" exists as a distinct system of governance. Again, an article about "monarchies in Muslim countries" would be completely different, if needed at all. R Prazeres (talk) 15:10, 9 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I do think there is some validity to saying that there is a difference between muslim majority monarchies and monarchies that have Islam as a state religion. Granted, right now all of the current the majority muslim monarchies have Islam as a state religion. Ike Lek (talk) 18:19, 9 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe, but it needs to be shown that this is something reliable sources talk about, not that Wikipedia editors feel there should be something said about it. The fact of Islam being a state religion has little to do with being a monarchy; many or most Muslim-majority countries, including officially republican states, have Islam designated as state religion in some manner or another (e.g. see this list). R Prazeres (talk) 19:14, 9 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn't say it has little to do with being a monarchy, as part of many Arab monarch's claims to power is being descended from the prophet Mohammad, but I agree that if the article is going to exist, it needs sources and can't be based on original research. Doesn't pass WP:NACADEMIC, no sigcov in article. Also strongly suspect WP:COI; Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/ThePerfectYellow grapesurgeon (seefooddiet) (talk) 00:19, 26 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
