Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for protection increases at the BOTTOM of this section. If you cannot find your request, check the archive of requests or, failing that, the page history. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for reduction in protection level

[edit]
Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

  • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
  • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
  • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
  • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Presumably the IP intends to nominate this and the below for deletion based on their other edits. But that doesn't require an unprotection; they can just request that the TfD tag be added using {{edit template-protected}}. However, what makes you think Not used in block summaries, unlike {{anonblock}}? Do you have any actual evidence of this, or are you just guessing? * Pppery * it has begun... 05:02, 22 June 2025 (UTC)

Reason: Only 7 transclusions. Not used in block summaries, unlike {{school block}} 2A0E:1D47:9085:D200:5AF:9096:9EC1:275E (talk) 16:46, 20 June 2025 (UTC)

Reason: This article about this fondly remembered British children's animated series has been semi-protected for ten years, with little vandalism. Frankster04 (talk) 18:42, 21 June 2025 (UTC)

(Non-administrator comment) To this day the article's subject is plagued by rumours about character names being sexual innuendos, which appear to have inspired the vandalism that warranted the protection. Furthermore, there are a lot of vandalism edits made between May 2012 and February 2015 that look similar enough to be a possible case of long-term abuse. If unprotection is on the cards here, it might be wise to err on the side of caution and drop to PC. Entranced98 (talk) 14:58, 22 June 2025 (UTC)

Comment:: Are you sure that that's not because of the protectionSumanuil. (talk to me) 20:37, 21 June 2025 (UTC)

(Non-administrator comment) Normally I'd agree, the "there's no vandalism so no protection is needed" logic is regularly a flawed request, but ten years is certainly long enough to consider for a valid WP:TRYUNPROT request. Zinnober9 (talk) 22:15, 21 June 2025 (UTC)

Reason: Unprotection or pending changes protection: This article has been semi-protected since 2017, back when the subject was a popular YouTube star. Now that it's been almost eight years since the protection (and since his death), perhaps it's time to try unprotection or downgrade it to pending changes to see how it goes? The article has seen significantly less views recently (144,097 views in the past year compared to 449,007 in 2017) and just 12 edits so far this year. The protecting administrator hasn't been active since at least 2021. I'm fine if the current protection level is still necessary, since Samsara stated there had been "very few good changes from non-autoconfirmed." BriDash9000 (talk) 07:50, 22 June 2025 (UTC)

Reason: This was indef-semied via this request by Daniel Case (his talk page is also protected, hence asking here first). This was probably inappropriate; the report said "repeated IP vandalism over the last 6 months", but there were a mere 2 vandalism edits over that time frame, both on the same day by the same IP. I don't see anything here that ever really rose to protection being needed. Thanks in advance. 35.139.154.158 (talk) 12:48, 22 June 2025 (UTC)

Current requests for edits to a protected page

[edit]
Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

  • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
  • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
  • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
  • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
  • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Requests for autopatrolled

Autopatrolled

[edit]

I've been here for almost two decades, with 30k+ edits and a fair number of articles created in the mean time. I believe I am well-qualified for autopatrolled perms. _dk (talk) 23:50, 16 June 2025 (UTC)

Hi. Based upon my learning and experience over the years of editing on Wikipedia (almost a decade now), I have created very selected pages which I find qualifying Wikipedia policies. If I find them trending in news but un-complying with the policies, I usually leave a redirect, or occasionally start with the draft. I believe not a single page that I created and/or majorly contributed has been deleted, and many respected editors and admins whom I had interacted with have always been helpful and supportive, believing in my good faith. Plus I only rewrite those articles in bad state which I find relevant, and not every other random article. However, due to recent attacks by sock puppetry over my edits, I want to be an autopatrolled user, so that I can easily continue volunteering independently here, and participate in the ongoing Destubathon as well. I promise I will not misuse this position. Thank you! M. Billoo 13:24, 19 June 2025 (UTC)

As of writing, I have created more than 50 articles from either redlinks or expanded redirects alongside ~30 templates, with only one superfluous template having been deleted. With a dozen Good Article and DYK citations, I believe I have proven myself in understanding the fomat and style of Wikipedia. My current project, to create articles on US Civil War-era ship classes, has and will quickly add more to the backlog. I have never had any issue with the New Page Patrol (that I recall), and would like to not add to their work as several of my previous articles/templates took months to be marked as reviewed (quite understandable, it's a large backlog!). My newest articles, all created since this weekend, (Mohican-class sloop, Sacramento-class sloop, Algoma-class sloop, and Potomac-class frigate) are well cited and comply with all requirments. Thank you! GGOTCC 02:32, 24 June 2025 (UTC)

You might want to go back to the Potomac-class frigate article and address the referencing errors that show up, GGOTCC. Schwede66 03:45, 24 June 2025 (UTC)

Hello,

I would like to request AWB user rights to assist with link retargeting and related maintenance tasks on the English Wikipedia, specifically as it pertains to comics-related articles. My primary goal is to efficiently update links to comply with WP:NCC, ensuring that pages link to the current, correct article titles.

While I have been using the Move+ tool, I find that it does not fully meet the scale and complexity of my ongoing work, especially when dealing with numerous backlinks and links with section anchors or piped text. AWB’s batch editing capabilities and advanced find-and-replace options are essential for streamlining these tasks and maintaining consistency across many pages.

Additionally, I have experience using tools like the redirect helper for managing redirect categorization templates, which complements the link updating work I intend to perform using AWB. I am committed to following Wikipedia’s guidelines and best practices when using AWB.

Thank you for considering my request.

Best regards, Red Shogun412 (talk) 22:12, 17 June 2025 (UTC)

Hello, I would like to use the editor mainly to have access to backreferences for editing using regular expressions. My actual use case would be to make a 300-line table sortable by last name. Work with data would also be useful. I also would like to be able to speed up formatting more generally, e.g. italics, quote marks, etc. Selbsportrait (talk) 22:27, 23 June 2025 (UTC)

I want to have this permission to reduce the pending changes backlog. I reviewed all the guidelines, such as BLP and the guideline for referencing. I revert good faiths and obvious vandalism and warn the user right after. Although I cannot perform a rollback to the recent changes page to have a consecutive track record due to my device's limited capabilities. I would rather choose pending changes over rollback; with rollback, I must have track records of mass rollback vandalism. But since I understood the guideline of rollback and pending changes, I can assure you that I will be responsible for having this permission. — ArćRèvtalk 10:38, 24 May 2025 (UTC)

This user has been renamed to TheArcRev whilst this request was open. CX Zoom[he/him] (let's talk • {CX}) 01:50, 12 June 2025 (UTC)
And now renamed again to Arcrev1. The repeated renames aren't good for accountability, but it's widely held that PCR is less sensitive than rollback, which they already have, and so it goes.

I've made 200+ edits and created over 40 mainspace articles. I'm familiar with core content policies and would like to help review pending edits. Thank you! Wieditor25 (talk) 22:14, 26 May 2025 (UTC)

This is my third application. I believe that I have enough experience and that with the help of Twinkle, I could throw a "ROLLBACK" command and thwart the vandals. Thank you, Starfall2015 chat | about me 06:14, 14 June 2025 (UTC)

This is a request for WP:PCR, not WP:ROLLBACK. Did you apply for the correct permission? HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 21:08, 21 June 2025 (UTC)
I did, but I have Twinkle and RedWarn. What really irritates me is that there are often about 10 changes but I can only revert them. Starfall2015 let's talk profile 15:50, 22 June 2025 (UTC)

I would like to be able to review edits that others have made, so I can check for vandalism. Floating Orb (talk) 21:06, 17 June 2025 (UTC)

Hi! I've been on Wikipedia for almost 3 years and have made over 18.5k+ edits, I want to help out on reviewing pending changes. Thanks! Vestrian24Bio 10:30, 21 June 2025 (UTC)

Have made 70,000 edits and hold rollback as well as New Page Reviewer. I think I can help with these too. Iljhgtn (talk) 01:20, 22 June 2025 (UTC)

I think I have enough experience editing and defending Wikipedia against vandalism. I routinely check the recent changes page, and know what vandalism or unexplained removal of content looks like. Therefore, I would like to review pending changes. I have read WP:PCR and understand it. If there is a edit that I'm not sure of, I will simply leave it for another editor to review. Hello! When checking my watchlist of frequently-vandalized articles or patrolling recent changes, I frequently work with articles which have pending changes. When there's obvious vandalism or a BLP issue I can already help out by reverting, but I'm requesting the reviewer role so I can approve any non-bad edit I come across -- ones which I've always had to simply ignore as false positives. I've checked out WP:PC and WP:RPC to familiarize myself with the policies and guidelines around recent changes and the expectations of reviewers. I appreciate your consideration :) — tony 15:55, 23 June 2025 (UTC)

I may make mistakes, but we all grw from them. The reason why I want to be a pending changes reviewer is so that I can approve edits that are not inline with Wikipedia's rules. I think that, since I'll become extended-confirm soon, it's time to request this permission again. PawPatroler (talk) 23:33, 23 June 2025 (UTC)

Requests for rollback

Rollback

[edit]

Requesting Access for Full "Rollback Priviledges" to Fight Vandalism and Intrusive editors as I am now able to be online daily, with always keeping WP:ROLLBACK in mind. See My Activity for qualification/eligibility. Criticize (talk) 00:17, 21 June 2025 (UTC)

Not done You essentially never warn editors, and seem to use dubious reasons for reverting (for example the lack of an edit summary is not itself a reason to undo an edit; you have to have some substantive objection too). * Pppery * it has begun... 21:05, 21 June 2025 (UTC)

Hello! I'm reaching out to request rollback rights so I can tackle vandalism more effectively. I've been actively patrolling recent changes and using Twinkle to revert vandalism, and I'd also like to try using Huggle which requires rollback permissions.

I get that rollback is a fast-paced tool meant for clear cases of vandalism or unconstructive edits, and I'm well-versed in the relevant policies and guidelines.

Thanks for considering my request! Igor123121 (talk) 08:38, 22 June 2025 (UTC)

I kindly request for Full Rollback Priviledges I was recently denied because of my poor quality to warn victim editors on their talk pages. I took that as a lesson and have improved on that rapidly quick. (Together with advice from 2 other loyal editors). But Please (Begging you) I really need these priviledges as I have read the advantages favor my abilities to warn editors Accurately Fast compared to The Default manual revert which is really delaying and a struggle. I recently attempted using the Twinkle Tool but it ruins the website's performance on my side (not sure why). Article modifications are coming in with blazing speed almost every milli-second. And the Default Manual Revert slows me down horribly. And victims may succeed in leaving damaged content on articles and other platforms, As Not every vandalism Fighter seems to be always online as much as I am now.

Please grant me the priviledges. It would be a pleasure to protect Wikipedia into being a safe, decent, and clean community. You have my word. I will Never let you down sir/ma'am. Criticize (talk) 09:19, 22 June 2025 (UTC)

@Criticize There's no point making a new request, when your previous request was declined so soon. It hasn't even been archived yet! Please wait atleast 2 weeks before making a new request. Begging rights like that would be considered Hat collecting There are plenty of other tools out there. Twinkle is not the only tool. In fact rollback is actually worse compared to other tools, when it comes to reverting. If you contribute using a desktop, you can also try RedWarn, or it's successor Ultraviolet. Cheers! @Ophyrius
I strictly take back the begging and pleading part! I was indeed desperate yesterday.
Funny you now say rollback is worse. (Not sure if I can believe you)
Just this morning I coded a python update to a script entry I took from the anti-vandal tool. And it shockingly improved the speed of the manual revert method efficiently on my side.
And reduced time to auto warn editors, with customizable settings.
Not sure if I should come back to make another request. But I certainly will if i'm interested.
However, I still have this burning desire to help Wikipedia, and it can't be stopped.
Have a good day. Criticize (talk) 09:43, 23 June 2025 (UTC)
I'm saying that as I personally have used it & I find other tools better. I used that permission for other tools like Antivandal & SWViewer OPHYRIUS 11:17, 23 June 2025 (UTC)

I am respectfully requesting rollback rights as I am committed to upholding the quality and reliability of Wikipedia by actively monitoring recent changes and promptly reverting vandalism and unconstructive edits. Having familiarized myself with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, I believe that the rollback tool will allow me to more efficiently contribute to the maintenance of article integrity and the overall improvement of the encyclopedia.
