Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:ProtectedPages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Reason: Since the returnal of semi protection (from extended protection), the vandalism from autoconfirmed accounts [just came back].

At the moment, there was only one day of vandalism since removal of extended protection but due to the usage of the word "Sigma" in popular culture, this page could be a victim of targetted vandalism in a long run. 79.191.87.5 (talk) 09:08, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Declined Only one series of vandal edits, from an account who vandalized a lot of other things. You can't use protection to stop this kind of person, as they will always crop up somewhere. Logic like At the moment, there was only one day of vandalism since removal of extended protection but due to the usage of the word "Sigma" in popular culture, this page could be a victim of targetted vandalism in a long run. is verboten per WP:NOPREEMPT. * Pppery * it has begun... 00:38, 17 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Caspidarya is back again. As seen in the current SPI and archive, they usually farm edits to edit protected articles, so would be appreciated if this could be made more difficult for them to do. HistoryofIran (talk) 09:34, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 3 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Ymblanter (talk) 01:47, 17 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing. Kajmer05 (talk) 09:52, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite extended confirmed protection: Arbitration enforcement – Relevant to WP:ARBPIA, should be protected per those arbitration decisions. Thanks!. Smallangryplanet (talk) 09:57, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

DeclinedWarn the user appropriately then report them to AIV or ANI if they continue. The IP is now stale for blocking and doesn't have a long history of disruption, so I won't do so. Sdrqaz (talk) 00:46, 17 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Recent increase in vandalism. Entranced98 (talk) 11:06, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Extended confirmed protection: Persistent disruptive editing. Gommeh ➡️ Talk to me 12:39, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I would appreciate if these could get extended protection as well [1] [2] [3] thanks to Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Caspidarya. HistoryofIran (talk) 14:15, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: High level of IP vandalism, this kind of article needs at least - Pending changes protection. Dasomm (talk) 13:44, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent addition of unsourced or poorly sourced content. ZergTwo (talk) 13:57, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Edit warring over whose opinions should and should not be in it. In fact, borderline edit waring in general since it began. Slatersteven (talk) 14:11, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

There's also a relevant ANI discussion adjacent to this - Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#User:Ecrusized_and_unilateral_changes
In that discussion, one proposal other than full page protection was to have "enforced BRD" similar to 2025_Pahalgam_attack Soni (talk) 17:18, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. --Another Believer (Talk) 14:13, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite pending changes protection: Persistent vandalism. RaschenTechner (talk) 15:35, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Once every half year is not persistent enough, not even for pending changes. Sdrqaz (talk) 00:46, 17 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Since network do extensive coverage of the Israel-Palestine conflict - it should have indefinite ECP as per Wikipedia:Arbitration/Index/Palestine-Israel articles Cinaroot (talk) 15:37, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite extended-confirmed protection: Contentious topic restriction. per ARBPIA. Freedoxm (talk · contribs) 16:21, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary pending changes: Persistent disruptive editing – an IP user disrupt this page few days ago, and few weeks ago as well, temporary protection will be good. Drcarrot.phd (talk) 16:30, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Persistent disruptive editing by user Loaiza3 and an ever-growing list of IP sockpuppets. I recommend Extended Confirmed protection. Temporary protection did not work. The user resumed soon after the page was unprotected. (A sockpuppet investigation was ended because of the temporary protection; don't know if that would have helped anyway.) The article does need improvement, but this user is simply disruptive and uninterested in policy or education, often breaking things, adding Spanish instead of English, and other confused activities in rapid-fire bursts of editing. Jōkepedia (talk) 17:29, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Two IP editors have made disruptive/promotional edits in the past 24 hours. ForsythiaJo (talk) 18:19, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Also high-risk page RaschenTechner (talk) 20:18, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Nothing in a week. Sdrqaz (talk) 00:46, 17 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Page is repeatedly having large amounts of content blanked. Muirjohnnyes (talk) 20:36, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Frequent recent vandalism - well after recent protection expired, so may need to go for a month or longer. Departure– (talk) 20:57, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IP vandalism. Trailblazer101 (talk) 21:03, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Can you please restore protection for Minneapolis indefinitely? Thank you very much for the long-term protection that was removed today. I believe the level was "require extended confirmed access". Disruptions started before the George Floyd protests in 2020, and the article has a prolific sockpuppet (more than 100 times). -SusanLesch (talk) 22:53, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

DeclinedPages are not protected preemptively. Let's see if vandalism recurs before resuming protection. That's why it was time-limited before. — rsjaffe 🗣️ 23:22, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
