Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Architecture

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Architecture, buildings, construction, city planning and public spaces. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Architecture|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Architecture, buildings, construction, city planning and public spaces. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
Further information
For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

Eggert House (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
(Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

Does not pass GNG - no evidence of significant coverage in reliable sources. Only current sources are a trivial mention and an unpublished manuscript. Was deprodded with the comment consider a redirect, please, but I do not see any likely redirect target. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 19:26, 5 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Ralph Spencer Steenblik (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
(Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

Previously deleted, I did not find significant, in-depth coverage of Steenblik in independent, reliable sources. What's there amounts to passing and brief mentions, so fails WP:NPROF and WP:GNG ULPS (talkcontribs) 18:43, 4 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Fences in Saint Petersburg (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)

Entirely unreferenced list of fences in a city, I find it unlikely that this subject is deserving of its own page. If any cited info can be found on the individual fences, that information would probably be better suited for a more relevant article (Church of the Savior on Blood, Bridge of Four Lions, etc). St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church (Studio City) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)

Nomination: Does not satisfy WP:NBUILDING/WP:GNG.

"In the early 2020s, the church was deemed eligible for placement on the National Register of Historic Places and the California Register." Yet, it does not appear on the register. I believe there may be some presumption of notability if the building is indeed located on the NRHP, but alas, we only have a vague assertion of NRHP "eligibility," here.

I do not believe we have "in-depth" and reliable sourcing. The sources provided are probably acceptable, but don't go far in terms of notability.

I believe we could have some copyright issues, though this isn't pertinent to the AfD. Just wanted to see if anyone else agreed.

As such, I feel compelled to, unfortunately, nominate for deletion.

First source is about a house on the street, not about the street. Other sources are commercial listings of houses for sale, or a source that doesn't even mention the street[1]. The "best" sources I could find were also about the old farm, not indepth sources about the road[2]. Lacks notability. Fram (talk) 08:18, 1 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Current article sourced only to UGC. I have not been able to find any other sources in Turkish about this building (though I have turned up sources on mosques with the same name in other cities). Does not appear to be notable. Mccapra (talk) 19:15, 30 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

actually it’s a single source used twice. Mccapra (talk) 06:54, 31 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • I wrote the article, but yeah, it's not really that notable a building. I walk by it occasionally and got curious about it. There probably are more sources, but I won't be able to do research for the next few weeks (dağbaşındayım). If you could wait till early September... Plenty of non-independent press releases about events, food offerings, and routine management changes. Listed briefly in the hotel directory sections of travel guides.

No significant coverage in independent, reliable, selective sources of the history or architecture of the building. Occasional coverage of the financials of the public company that owns it (Unique Hotel and Resorts, a subsidiary of Unique Group, which is a possible redirect target).

The only non-routine coverage relates to a ruling-party minor functionary accused of running an escort service out of the hotel. When the story broke in 2020, there was much press speculation along the "how could the hotel not have known" lines, but no employees were ever charged.[3][4] Does not meet WP:NBUILDING or WP:GNG. • Keep per the significant coverage in multiple independent reliable sources. Wikipedia:Notability (geographic features)#Engineered constructs says:

Buildings, including private residences, transportation facilities and commercial developments, may be notable as a result of their historic, social, economic, or architectural importance, but they require significant in-depth coverage by reliable, third-party sources to establish notability.

From Google Translate: "The Westin Dhaka started its journey in a 24-story building in Gulshan, the capital, in 2007. The hotel has 235 rooms of various types. Of these, 197 are standard rooms, 37 are suites, and 1 is a presidential suite. In addition, there are several restaurants and various facilities, including spaces for events. More than 1,000 employees work directly at Westin Dhaka. In addition, there are more than a hundred employees to oversee the construction of the hotel's expansion."

The article notes: "An official cited the global coronavirus scare as one of the reasons behind the drop in the number of guests during the visit to the hotel on Wednesday. Police said the hotel breached unofficial rules of informing the law enforcers about a guest who is staying for a long time, in this case, the expelled Jubo Mohila League leader Shamia Noor Papia who spent millions on rents of the most expensive suit and bar of Westin. ... The 24-storey hotel is owned by Unique Hotel and Resorts Limited with businessman Mohd Noor Ali as the managing director. Ten days after the arrest of Papia, security checks are mandatory to enter the hotel. ... The smoking zone on the floor was totally empty. So was the bar and Prego restaurant on level 23. ... No customer came to the restaurant, which had been abuzz with visitors at all times a few days ago, in half an hour. A person was swimming in a pool next to another smaller restaurant on level five."

From Google Translate: "The Westin Hotel authorities have been occupying a part of the sidewalk for a long time and have arranged for car parking. As a result, pedestrian movement is being affected. Ramps have been built by occupying the sidewalk for cars to get on and off. Cars of guests coming to this five-star hotel in Dhaka's Gulshan go from the hotel's parking area to the main gate through that ramp. The movement of vehicles on the sidewalk in this way is being hampered. As a result, the sidewalk section of that road has now been occupied by the hotel. As a result, pedestrian movement has been restricted. Although local pedestrians have complained about the issue, there seems to be no solution to it."

The indictment further states that Papia used 26 rooms at The Westin Hotel during those four months, for which she paid BDT 32.32 million for the room rent. ... The book notes: "Among 5-star hotels in Dhaka, this is the newest option. Early reviews indicate that the hotel is still getting its kinks out. Local aid organisations or embassies will probably be able to get the best rates. Has spa & swimming pool & broadband in all rooms. This is the best hotel in Gulshan, so if your business is up here, this is where you'll want to be."

There is sufficient coverage in reliable sources to allow The Westin Dhaka to pass Wikipedia:Notability#General notability guideline, which requires "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject".

With intensive evaluation, two of the selected properties were determined to be ineligible for the National or Kansas Register ... Henry Eggert was an early settler who acquired this property in 1876. Although the Eggert House is no longer eligible, the Fred Eggert dairy barn (c. 1920) across the road still has a high degree of integrity.
