Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Lists

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Lists. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Lists|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Lists. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
Further information
For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

(Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

Same as List of K League licensed video games, trivial article about a football league being licensed in video games. GamerPro64 04:55, 1 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

RåFILM film collective (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)

Fails WP:ORG. The article seems to be created here as only for promotion with only one self-published source being repeated after RåFILM was deleted as WP:G11. Agent 007 (talk) 17:57, 31 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Delete Per nom. Main subject seems to be Detained (2015) which does not have significant media coverage. Everything else seems extraneous. I fixed the structure of the page, but I don't think it has a place on Wikipedia. InvisibleUser909 (talk) 01:49, 1 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Absolute trivial article about a football team being licensed in video games. And its mostly FIFA. GamerPro64 04:35, 31 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

List of countries receiving snowfall (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)

There is enough difference in this as compared to what was deleted in 2007 (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of countries receiving snowfall (2nd nomination). However, the same arguments apply here. Mainly it falls afoul of Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not#Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information. As well it's unsourced and the "All elevations" section contains places that are not countries and it never snows in the United States. A list of whatever the article creator has found interesting, some from decades ago, some pipe dreams, most somewhere in the middle. No discussion as a group or set by independent reliable sources, and no unambiguous, objective, and RS-supported selection criteria. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 17:02, 29 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

List of countries by raspberries production (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)

There is an nearly infinite number of lists, many of which do not merit inclusion in Wikipedia. This lump of trivia is one such. TheLongTone (talk) 15:28, 28 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Draftify just as notable as the other variants in the template navigation bar at the end of the article, but with only one country, it is not a list of countries (yet). I disagree that it's in conflict with Raspberry#Production because that one only lists the top 5 countries of one year. The other separate articles are far more detailed with many more countries and not limited to just one year. Once more countries are added, it can be moved to article space and linked under Raspberry#Production as a main article, like is done for example with Pear#Production. List of playing cards related anime and manga (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)

Creator objected to proposed deletion. They provided sources on the article's talk page, but I'm not really convinced by them; one is a YouTube video by Mother's Basement (an obviously unreliable source), another is a BackerKit page for a TTRPG, and yet a third one isn't a meaningful source at all, but just a content tag on CoroCoro's website. The others they linked are at least from sites that could conceivably be utilized in Wikipedia, but they're all mostly discussing Yu-Gi-Oh, with a couple of them mentioning other series in passing mostly in relation to Yu-Gi-Oh. Several of the not-outright-unreliable or user-generated sources here are from WP:VALNET, and most of the rest are just from Anime News Network. The current state of the article is generally poorly sourced, and I don't see the potential state looking much better. It doesn't look like this passes NLIST. silviaASH (inquire within) 00:25, 26 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Delete: There is no substantial change in the article after the objection from Setenzatsu.2 (talk · contribs). The issue with the user is clearly a WP:IDHT case, and I wonder why they did not receive any kind of sanction after being reported to ANI. Xexerss (talk) 03:08, 26 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
From looking at the discussion, it seems to me like they went inactive for a few days and no one followed up on it before the topic got archived. They also never responded to the discussion and didn't edit between May 21st and 25th, so I'd say it was a pretty clear case of ANI flu. Obviously this AfD isn't the right venue to discuss their conduct, but given the quite obvious WP:RADAR issues it should probably be dealt with somehow. silviaASH (inquire within) 05:09, 26 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Manga: The Complete Guide, p. 122, has a sentence of comparison between card games related to manga vs. video games. Trading Card Games For Dummies has a 13-page chapter on trading card games related to anime, manga and comics. Daranios (talk) 19:51, 26 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I think it should be possible to create an article about card-themed anime and manga series (I can't think of a particular title at the moment). The problem is this list article and its poorly sourced and worded content. I don't feel like I'm reading an encyclopedic Wikipedia article, but a Fandom article or something like that. Xexerss (talk) 00:19, 27 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, even if this article topic is notable, I'm not sure a list is the appropriate way to cover it, and I think WP:TNT applies. silviaASH (inquire within) 00:22, 27 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Tallest structures by category (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
(Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

The encyclopedia already has many, many articles listing tall buildings. The encyclopedia also has many categories related to tall buildings.

This new article has several issues: (a) does not conform to proper title convention (should be "List of ..."); (b) 90% of the facts (rows) do not have any citation validating the facts of the row; and most importantly: (c) this list is duplicative of all the other "tall building" lists already in the encyclopedia... every time a new record is broken, this is one more list to update.

If the consensus is to keep this list, at a minimum it must be properly sourced. There is no lack of sources in the other, existing List articles. Noleander (talk) 18:40, 23 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I posted the above AfD as part of WP:NPP effort. After making the post, I see another editor, User:Remsense had similar thoughts two weeks ago: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Tallest_structures_by_category&diff=1289324742&oldid=1289202581 Remsense deleted the article and replaced it with a redirect to List of tallest buildings and structures. Then, the article creator returned and re-created the article.
Probably should do that same "Delete and redirect" action again. Noleander (talk) 18:44, 23 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Strong keep. Although if you'd like to change the article name to List of tallest structures by category, I have no objection to that.
The article says, for example, that the tallest clock tower is the Abraj Al Bait, at 601 meters. It links to an article with a list of the tallest clock towers, and another article all about the Abraj Al Bait. Those other articles have sources. Although if you'd like to add sources here too, I'd be in favor of that.
It's true that this article is a bit duplicative of all the other lists. But I think it's useful having a single article like this to combine them all, and see how each category compares to the other. One more list to update isn't that big a deal.
For those who are just joining us, this article used to be a single section of a larger article titled List of tallest buildings and structures. Here is how it looked when they were together. But it didn't really have anything in common with the rest of that article (which was the history of the world's tallest structures), so this section was recently made into a separate article of its own, and the remainder had its name changed. Remsense thought they should stay together, rather than being separate articles, which we discussed. But I don't think anyone has previously suggested it should be deleted altogether. This information has been on Wikipedia at its prior location for a long time. It does lack references, but it's a good article, it's been pretty high profile, and a lot of people have contributed to it. - Burner89751654 (talk) 20:13, 23 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Speedy keep This isn't a new article, it's a very longstanding article that's been split out to a new name. I don't believe it's duplicative, the creator has been working on improving organziation of tallest building lists recently. More sources are certainly needed but there's no basis for deletion given. List of mass escapes from German POW camps (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)

We already have List of prison escapes, List of prisoner-of-war escapes, and German POW camps in WWII, so possibly merge? But no sources, making things confusing and hard to verify (home run?) and has been edited maybe ~50 times in the 15 years since its creation. GoldRomean (talk) 21:39, 21 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Keep as this seems to be a better method of organisation than putting them all in the main article, as the list is rather long. Sources can be added. Element10101 T ~ C 02:03, 29 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
List of humorous names in mathematics (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
(Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

Essentially WP:OR, personal taste (or lack of it) whether something is "humorous" ("killing field", hilarious; "mother functor", if you pronounce it completely wrong it almost sounds like, well, you guessed it) and not a defining characteristic for most of these. Fram (talk) 14:48, 20 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

There is obviously subjectivity in humour, but firstly there are numerous compilations of these online, even in fairly reputable places refs 1,2,3,4; secondly many of them are deliberate jokes e.g. look at the name origin section on Cox–Zucker machine and lastly there are similar pages e.g. in mathematics Mathematical joke or elsewhere Lists of pejorative terms for people where inclusion or exclusion of examples can't be completely objective.
Feel free to change the list, but you know, have some fun too. WikiNukalito (talk) 15:57, 20 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Adding to this request to keep, as per Wikipedia:Notability#Stand-alone lists and references 1,2,3,4 these terms have ' been discussed as a group or set by independent reliable sources'. The items are not just personal taste, they're all in the lists in the quoted references. WikiNukalito (talk) 12:28, 24 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That is not really similar to this article. Azuredivay (talk)

There's nothing quite as fun as explaining jokes on Wikipedia... Taste is subjective but to re-iterate, these are intentional jokes, with well documented and well known stories (The 'Ten Martini Problem', Cox–Zucker machine etc etc.) or if not intentional, then referenced in articles [1] about such things.
This kind of list is not unusual on here either Wikipedia:Unusual_place_names, Wikipedia:Unusual articles, List of humorous units of measurement... and the criteria for inclusion is not particularly subjective either - intended to be funny or well accepted to be. If you think some entries on the list don't meet those criteria, delete them. I would have perhaps improved the list if it hadn't been flagged for deletion 10 seconds after I created it. The people applying subjective criteria are the ones calling it tasteless.
Move it to 'List of mathematics considered humorous', if that helps to preserve the sanctity of the encyclopedia which hosts articles like Breast-shaped hill and -ussy WikiNukalito (talk) 19:04, 28 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Delete. This might be considered humorous by a ten-year old boy, but it's basically childish. Athel cb (talk) 15:06, 28 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The article that is the subject of this nomination is not and has never been a redirect, as best I can tell. (Shortly before this nomination was started, List of brand name snack foods was blanked, redirected, and partially merged into this list, which may be what SapphicVibes is referring to.)
