Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Arts
![]() | Points of interest related to Arts on Wikipedia: Portal – Category – WikiProject – Alerts – Deletions |
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Arts. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Arts|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Arts. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

This digital illustrator/artist who combines images found on Tumblr does not meet WP:GNG nor WP:NARTIST criteria for inclusion. The citations consist of primary sources (interviews), blogs, a pay-to-play site, and minor publications, none of which contributes to notability. There is no coverage of his work in the form of reviews or critical analysis in major art or design publications; nor coverage in art history books, thus failing WP:SIGCOV. There are no exhibitions of his work in notable galleries, nor works in the permanent collections of museums or national galleries. He has designed an album cover, a couple book covers, and has created illustrations for some magazines, but these are just accompanied by a photo credit only. Commercial artist-illustrators are not inherently notable just for making their work or simply publishing illustrations; that is business as usual WP:MILL. A WP:BEFORE search finds only social media, blogs or user-submitted content. Bringing it here so the community can decide whether or not to retain the article. Can be classified as a dictionary definition, as it's just a basic description for an obscure painting sourced from the painting's official website, aka WP:PRIMARY. There's no other sources in the article beyond that. Doing a WP:BEFORE, I only found entries of the painting in various catalogues or basic descriptions of this or other similar paintings. - Keep I'm surprised the article's so short - I would have said that was one of Gauguin's better-known works! Even the Paul Gauguin article says more about it. Searching for the original title, Vahine no te Tiare, turns up more references than our current title; some of these are catalogue entries but many have a fair amount to say about the work (to pick a few at random: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6). Bringing this to AfD since it can't be speedied under A7. The article is built entirely on primary or self-published sources with nothing that offers independent or significant coverage. - Delete, very new Wikipedia article which suggests it is here for promotional purposes. There's surprisingly little about the drama school online, certainly nothing in independent, reliable, non-industry sources which would allow it to pass the WP:NCORP notabilitiy criteria. - Keep – Acting International has operated since 1980 and is a long-standing bilingual drama school in Paris with verifiable alumni, including internationally notable actors such as Julie Gayet, Michelle Yeoh, Daniel Craig, Keira Knightley, and Milla Jovovich. These individuals are reliably sourced via IMDb and widely covered elsewhere. The school is cited across independent actor biographies and agency listings. While broader secondary coverage is currently limited, the institution meets WP:ORG for its longstanding operation, influence on notable individuals, and verifiable contributions to the performing arts. Improvements have been made to ensure neutral tone and accuracy, including clarifying that some award mentions (e.g., New York Movie Awards) are part of the indie/online circuit.

- Comment: Currently, aside from the subject's own website, there is not a single WP:RS cited. Most of the citations are to IMDb. -- Ssilvers (talk) 01:56, 27 July 2025 (UTC)
- Delete - as Ssilvers, pointed out, it's not independently sourced, IMDB being unreliable and the subject having a conflict of interest. Lacks easily accessible significant coverage in reliable sources. The problem is that the page discusses living people, for which we require real sources. If you find anything, ping me. - Keep - The Eames Lounge Chair Wood is an internationally known iconic chair design by the artist/designers Charles and Ray Eames. It is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art (links above in Asparagusstar's comment), the Cooper Hewitt Design Museum of the Smithsonian Institution [17], the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art [18], the High Museum of Art [19], the Denver Art Museum [20], the Victoria and Albert Museum [21], the National Museum of American History [22], the Carnegie Museum of Art [23], among many others. The nom states that
Smells like a failure of WP:SIRS
, however I don't think SIRS applies because the Eames Lounge Chair Wood is not a corporation/business/organization, it is considered an iconic work of American art and design history which was produced in multiple form. Its notability as an art/design object is established by the fact that top international museums hold this object in their collections. This Eames chair is extremely well known and has been written about in multiple design history books as well, thus also meets WP:GNG based on the dozens of books that provide coverage of the chair which are easily found in a BEFORE on Google Books. Netherzone (talk) 02:33, 29 July 2025 (UTC)- Also found in the permanent collections of the Museum of Arts and Design, New York [24] the Saint Louis Art Museum [25], the Minneapolis Institute of Art Museum [26], the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston [27], the Brooklyn Museum [28], and more... Also here is an article in Architectural Digest, How Charles and Ray Eames’s 1946 LCW Chair Changed Furniture as We Know It, providing significant coverage on how the LCW chair impacted seating design when it was invented in the mid-century. Other articles about the chair: Time Magazine Charles and Ray Eames: Simply Genius [29]; Hyperallergic Magazine [30]; The Guardian [31], and more... Netherzone (talk) 19:23, 29 July 2025 (UTC)
- I think being in the permanent collection of a major museum would make an artwork notable, not sure how that applies to chairs... I'd still say that helps notability. Oaktree b (talk) 13:30, 29 July 2025 (UTC)

The lack of independent sourcing to establish notability is still an issue since the 2009 discussion. Sources are still not present to establish his notability.

- Delete The single source referenced in the article is not an independent source as it is written by the subject. The claim of notability in the article is ‘best fan artwork’ from a fan convention, which is not a notable award that would be considered as "won significant critical attention" or any other part of WP:ARTIST. My search for other possible significant coverage in independent reliable sources turned up nothing. I found instead a self-published book and wikipedia copies. Asparagusstar (talk) 19:46, 17 July 2025 (UTC)
- Delete. His citation count is solid but falls short of WP:NPROF#C1 for me, and I don't see any indication that he passes any of the other NPROF criteria. I unfortunately couldn't find any independent coverage that would indicate that he is notable as a cartoonist. MCE89 (talk) 12:06, 18 July 2025 (UTC)
- Keep per the ascertained judgement of the notability of the subject as a cartoonist reached in the 2009 deletion attempt. Randy Kryn (talk) 09:41, 19 July 2025 (UTC)
- As I am sure you know, notability standards have changed a lot since 2009. Do you have any sources to demonstrate his notability as a cartoonist? No usable sources at all were presented in the 2009 discussion. MCE89 (talk) 09:45, 19 July 2025 (UTC)
- Keep while generally an h-index of 27 is not quite enough to pass the bar of NPROF by itself, combined with other activities it usually is based on discussions in the past. In this I would argue that the comic activity is substantial enough to confer notability. --hroest 17:38, 19 July 2025 (UTC)
- That's possible, but I don't see any independent commentary on his cartoonist activities. Barely anything is cited, either. This specific subcategory of the Sir Julius Vogel Award does not seem to be enough to confer notability. -- Reconrabbit 23:56, 21 July 2025 (UTC)

Keep - passes WP:ARTIST. The subject, a New Zealander, won the Sir Julius Vogel Award, which appears to be a prominent award in that country. The article could do with better sourcing, though.--DesiMoore (talk) 15:22, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- More specifically, he won the Fan Award for best fan artwork. What is your evidence that this is a prominent award? The article for the Sir Julius Vogel Awards barely even establishes that the set of awards as a whole is notable, let alone that it is
a well-known and significant award or honor
. And even if the actual professional Sir Julius Vogel Awards are significant enough to establish notability, it seems like an enormous stretch to claim that winning the fan art award is enough on its own to make someone notable. MCE89 (talk) 15:36, 23 July 2025 (UTC)- Yes, for example, according to the Sir Julius Vogel Award article, the "fan award winners" from "1997-2000" are "details unknown." It would be interesting to hear which of the four criteria of WP:ARTIST could possibly be met by winning a "fan award" that no one else can remember who won for four years at a time. Asparagusstar (talk) 19:29, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- @DesiMoore Even then, there's about nothing else establishing him. In a similar case to Taufik Rosman, the article would be better as a redirect to the award. Roast (talk) 18:11, 30 July 2025 (UTC)

- Just for some context - in NZ "methamphetamine contamination" of housing (especially rentals) was a huge concern a ~decade ago, and numerous "testing" services were set up (which were in all likelihood no more than snake oil salesmen). Dr Kim was in the media a lot during that time, basically saying the fears were overblown. Along with the media stories, there's a journal article here, featuring Dr Kim - [51]

I don't see anything online to show notability. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 01:18, 26 July 2025 (UTC)

- Delete. Because there is literally only one source in the article (a primary citation to his just his dissertation), and the rest is completely unsourced and/or simply original research, we are left to find coverage elsewhere. I would have voted to keep given that he was the recipient of the Sir Julius Vogel Award (which, given that it had a page, I thought might be grounds for notability), but MCE89's comment above has convinced me that the award is somewhat dubious (its unclear if it actually should have a page at all) and may not qualify as a
a well-known and significant award or honor
. GuardianH 18:54, 30 July 2025 (UTC) - Comment I've added all of my above urls to a refideas list on the talk page. Also it turns out that there are two Wikidata IDs for Kim d:Q7026976 & d:Q98773898. I've been expanding identifiers on the first one (used by the article), but I imagine they'll need merging over there...
- I linked up his profile from SCOPUS [56], but will leave it up to someone more familiar with NPROF to assess against C1. As mentioned above, there's numerous reliable sources calling him an expert in environmental contamination, so I would still argue he meets C7, even if the article in its current state does not reflect that. Current article sourced only to UGC. I have not been able to find any other sources in Turkish about this building (though I have turned up sources on mosques with the same name in other cities). Does not appear to be notable. Mccapra (talk) 19:15, 30 July 2025 (UTC)

The article is short, sourced only from the subject's website, and has at times been edited to read as a website for the church. I don't believe the article establishes notoriety (e.g., 50 members, lacking secondary sources). Mad Jim Bey talk 22:43, 28 July 2025 (UTC)

Plenty of non-independent press releases about events, food offerings, and routine management changes. Listed briefly in the hotel directory sections of travel guides.
No significant coverage in independent, reliable, selective sources of the history or architecture of the building. Occasional coverage of the financials of the public company that owns it (Unique Hotel and Resorts, a subsidiary of Unique Group, which is a possible redirect target).
The only non-routine coverage relates to a ruling-party minor functionary accused of running an escort service out of the hotel. When the story broke in 2020, there was much press speculation along the "how could the hotel not have known" lines, but no employees were ever charged.[59][60] Does not meet WP:NBUILDING or WP:GNG. - I'm neutral, but I am seeing some discussion in even scholarly journals, though the first few hits are from students who were able to do research through internships provided by the hotel for business schools. Most of the results are about events at the hotel. Typically five-star hotels in countries without a lot of five-star hotels are generally notable. I'm not !voting keep because I haven't seen any clearly non-routine sources in English, but I won't be surprised if they exist. SportingFlyer T·C 17:08, 26 July 2025 (UTC)

- Keep per the significant coverage in multiple independent reliable sources. Wikipedia:Notability (geographic features)#Engineered constructs says:
Buildings, including private residences, transportation facilities and commercial developments, may be notable as a result of their historic, social, economic, or architectural importance, but they require significant in-depth coverage by reliable, third-party sources to establish notability.

From Google Translate: "The Westin Hotel authorities have been occupying a part of the sidewalk for a long time and have arranged for car parking. As a result, pedestrian movement is being affected. Ramps have been built by occupying the sidewalk for cars to get on and off. Cars of guests coming to this five-star hotel in Dhaka's Gulshan go from the hotel's parking area to the main gate through that ramp. The movement of vehicles on the sidewalk in this way is being hampered. As a result, the sidewalk section of that road has now been occupied by the hotel. As a result, pedestrian movement has been restricted. Although local pedestrians have complained about the issue, there seems to be no solution to it."
