This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Schools. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Schools|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Schools. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

I don't see any sources by which to judge the school to be notable, with WP:NCORP being applicable to this private business institution. The sole reference in the article seems to be lost, but based on its title ("NIA: 100% placement with highest package of Rs 10.5 lakh per annum") and what had been referenced to it, it seems to have been a PR-push. (I don't think independent media are going out on their own to examine insurance academy placement rates and report on them.) Largoplazo (talk) 00:11, 3 June 2025 (UTC)

- keep 99 years old Alliance High School in Kenya is not just any high school: it is the first in the country to offer education to African (boys) [1] and as such, has an important historical role. Its educational content and its influence on Ngugi wa Thiong'o (recently deceased) is analyzed at length in article Ngugi's Colonial Education: “The Subversion… of the African Mind” (2014)" from the perspective of colonial education. It relies on numerous sources, of which "Carey Francis at the A.H.S., Kikuyu", from Kipkurir B.E.Biographical Essays on Imperialism and Collaboration in Colonial Kenya and numerous issues of The ASH Magazine. If The Alliance High School and the origins of the Kenya Africa Elite, 1926-1962 is still unpublished [2], The history of the Alliance High School (1973) is still in libraries. --Pa2chant.bis (talk) 07:56, 29 May 2025 (UTC)

School does not appear to be notable upon search. The current sources in the article only prove that the school exists, and upon search, I can't seem to find any sources that would prove the subject is notable enough to warrant its own article. WormEater13 (talk • contribs) 15:49, 18 May 2025 (UTC)

- Keep I found three independent, reliable sources containing significant coverage of the school.[3][4][5] The history section of the school website suggests some events for which additional coverage likely exists offline: establishment in 1872, nationalization in 1909, the loss of the school building to river erosion, the construction of a new building in 1974, and the 100th anniversary celebration in 2008. If there is no appetite to keep, the article should at a minimum be merged to Jhalokati Sadar Upazila#Education as an alternative to deletion. --Worldbruce (talk) 06:25, 25 May 2025 (UTC)

Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, Toadspike [Talk] 23:01, 1 June 2025 (UTC)- @Worldbruce -- I disagree with @B-Factor stating that the sources are unreliable. These sources may very well be reliable sources, but I have a few concerns.
- Per WP:GNG, sources which are from the same outlet (Somoy News [6] [7]) count as one source when evaluated for whether they pass the notability guideline, so we're down to two sources that may (?) pass GNG. As for the Jagonews24.com source [8], I've also noticed that the author of the Jagonews24.com article uses "we" multiple times in that article when referencing the fear that students have expressed of the school's deteriorating condition. Does that imply that they may not be independent of the subject (e.g a student of the school)?
- As for the Somoy News, [9] mostly has primary content (due to it being interviews). [10] seems to be the best source so far.
- Also, I would like to ask a question. Even if the sources are further proved to pass WP:GNG, they don't have WP:SIGCOV of the school itself. WP:SIGCOV requires that the subject is discussed directly and in detail. What makes the school notable enough other than the fact that it exists to warrant its own article? I'm not opposed to a merge into Jhalokati Sadar Upazila#Education. WormEater13 (talk • contribs) 01:06, 2 June 2025 (UTC)
- @WormEater13: Multiple stories by the same author or organization are usually (not always) aggregated for notability purposes. This is done because what is effectively one news story is frequently published over a multi-day news cycle. Each successive day's coverage is not a separate instance of people taking note of the topic. The two Somoy News stories are 18 months apart and about completely different aspects of the school, so I think this is one of the cases where they should not be treated as one.
- As you say, Jagonews24.com uses "we" when referencing the fear that students have expressed. They also use a seemingly separate "we" when paraphrasing the headmaster, so it may just be the style of their writing. It's fair to question their independence; perhaps this belongs in the not sure column.
- If stories about the building and faculty of a school are not about the school itself, I'm not sure what is. The stories all have primary source elements, but they are secondary with respect to other content. Jagonews24 describes when the school was established, the relative ages of their buildings, a past engineering inspection, short term plans considered a few years ago, and the headmaster's long term plan. Only one paragraph of the 2024 Somoy New article, which you characterize as mostly interviews, is interview. The other three paragraphs mention the school's 1872-1909 period under another name, when it was nationalized, when the two-story building was constructed, the size of the campus, and how many students are enrolled. The 2023 Somony News article synthesizes the reporter's own observation with what he learned from multiple parents, a "cultural organizer", and a district education officer.
- Be that as it may, the above three are not the only sources. The general topics - the school's deteriorating infrastructure and the faculty's verbal, physical, and financial abuse of their pupils in connection with extracurricular coaching - has been covered by other reliable national media over a period of time: Dainik Shiksha (2018),[11] Desher Sangbad (2022),[12] Banglanews24.com (2023),[13] and Risingbd.com (2025),[14] for example. --Worldbruce (talk) 16:27, 3 June 2025 (UTC)

- Comment The first three sources cite the organization's work without anything about the organization itself. The Baidu Baike entry is another online encyclopedia, and onthinktanks.org is a directory listing with content likely provided by the organization. Oblivy (talk) 23:07, 18 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Cunard Hi there I’m not sure if you would have the time of doing so but could you please take a look and see if you could try finding related sources to this article, since you have similarly done so in the past. Thank you very much. Ilovefood123123 (talk) 12:21, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
- There are numerous mentions of the institute in sources which has made it difficult to determine whether there is significant coverage of it. Cunard (talk) 21:33, 26 May 2025 (UTC)

- This institute has been cited hundreds of times on Jstor. [16] Their polls are regularly covered in the news, e.g. SCMP: [17][18][19], NYT: [20][21][22][23]. They are also called variations like "the Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies at Chinese University" or "Hong Kong Institute of Asia Pacific Studies" (no hyphen) or the abbreviated "HKIAPS". I haven't found sigcov yet but I am not sure if meeting the GNG is required here; similar to our standards for academics and newspapers, I think the bar should be lower here. - Btw, the previous deletion was a speedy under WP:A7 from 15 years ago. [24] There was no AfD and that speedy deletion, being a content issue and not a notability issue, should have no bearing on the outcome of this discussion. Toadspike [Talk] 13:40, 21 May 2025 (UTC)
