Not a good image???? --Pete (talk) 06:32, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

In my opinion, yes. None of the people were smiling, no one was running, the people pictured are staring awkwardly at the camera, etc. The picture I replaced it with was 1. The longstanding previous picture 2. A picture of the first and most popular parkrun location in the world 3. Pictures people running. I have a very strong preference for this picture over the one I described as poor. GraziePrego (talk) 08:21, 1 September 2024 (UTC)
You've replaced a picture where no one was smiling with one where no one was smiling. Oh-kay. Consider that the image you prefer is shown in a thumbnail and very few details are visible.
One of the main selling points of parkrun is that it is an event where people of all ages, shapes and sizes participate. It is not a race. Shown as a thumbnail, my image shows clearly a wide variety participating, they are dressed in running gear, they are just normal people taking part in an activity. Granted, one person, an obvious parkrun tourist, is looking at the camera. This adds interest and draws the eye in.
I've taken tens of thousands of parkrun photographs and I wouldn't say that anybody in the Bushy Park shot is running. Jogging, sure but if that pack was moving at a running pace, I would expect to see several in the classic "flying feet" position.
Why should Bushy Park be featured anywhere but in the "History" section? There seems to be no good reason for putting it in the infobox.
I don't accept your comments as having much validity, apart from your stated personal preference. --Pete (talk) 05:45, 3 September 2024 (UTC)
I'm really unsure why you're being so snarky, rude and condescending about this. I understand it's your image and so you're taking this as a criticism of your photography or something? Coming to my talk page to be so rude is a bit upsetting honestly, especially when you're just mad I took your personal photograph away. At least you typed out a full message this time instead of just saying "not a good image????".
Putting aside the tone, I see zero reason to change my opinion that the image was poor. The image there now was a longstanding image, shows the most popular parkrun in the world, shows people in movement, no awkward staring at the camera or odd facial expressions, a prettier looking course, etc etc. Take it to the talk page of parkrun if you wish; you've been here for 20 years so I know you know that's proper process. GraziePrego (talk) 05:58, 3 September 2024 (UTC)
No offence meant. As a parkrun photographer, I was wondering if there were any valid reasons behind your comment. Speaking of offence, you were the one saying it was not a good image. How did you think I'd feel about that? --Pete (talk) 09:08, 3 September 2024 (UTC)
On offence, I was commenting on your image, rather than on you personally as an editor. I’m sure you’re an excellent editor, I just disagree with you about what image should be in the info box on parkrun. You suggested that I was editing with improper motivations and was removing things based on just not liking them. It’s quite different to criticise someone’s edit than to attack the editor making it. GraziePrego (talk) 12:02, 3 September 2024 (UTC)
I've commenced a discussion on the article talk page here where you are welcome to contribute to improving our encyclopaedia. --Pete (talk) 10:36, 3 September 2024 (UTC)

Women in Green's "Around the World in 31 Days" GA Editathon – October 2024

Hello GraziePrego:

WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Edit-a-thon event in October 2024!

Running from October 1 to 31, 2024, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme Around the World in 31 Days! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 countries (or broader international articles) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.

We hope to see you there!

Question from BaZooKa7 (08:30, 22 September 2024)

How to put a color behind the words and put an image --BaZooKa7 (talk) 08:30, 22 September 2024 (UTC)

Hi there, I'm guessing you mean putting colour behind words in tables? You have to set the "style" for each specific cell, you can do that in source mode. Best way to do that is find a table on a different article that has the colour you want, go into source mode and pick out what line is causing that, and copypaste it into the article you want to edit.
For adding an image, you can add one by going to the top of the editing window and clicking "Insert" and then "Images and Media". Hope that helps! GraziePrego (talk) 08:35, 22 September 2024 (UTC)

DYK for Sophie Scamps

On 27 September 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Sophie Scamps, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Sophie Scamps decided to enter politics after a survey from her local member of Parliament failed to mention climate change? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Sophie Scamps. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Sophie Scamps), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Cwmhiraeth (talk) 00:03, 27 September 2024 (UTC)

Jewish Council of Australia - I don't understand your perspective of what belongs, especially in quotes

I don't understand why you are putting "left leaning" in quotes in the intro, when the words left leaning to not appear. The words "far left" appear in the source. Furthermore it isn't ECAJ who is describing the JCA as "far left", it is the words of the journalist. But I really don't understand why you would want to put "left leaning" in quotes when those words don't appear, but be against "far left" when those words to appear written by the journalists.

I also don't understand why you think "It has been described as" in the intro is wikispeak, but then using the same 'It has been described as" to say that the name is deceptive is not wikispeak?

I want to do some more edits to flesh things out, but I don't want to edit war, so I am trying to reach out to get on the same page. Seraphya (talk) 05:48, 23 September 2024 (UTC)

Thank you for reaching out. The source applied to that sentence does not use the phrase “far-left” anywhere; it says the supporters of the JCA “align with the left” and in the diagram, gives their leaning as just “left”. I will restore this wording as it fits with the source (and as it is the ante bellum wording) we should discuss further on the talk page if there’s more to change for it.
The reasoning behind the other wording is word choice. Saying something has been described as something is better suited to less controversial descriptors. If we say, as the wording I removed did, that they have been “noted” as being deceptive, then we are explicitly saying in wikivoice that it’s unequivocally factual that they’re being deceptive. We can’t say that, we can certainly say they have been described as such but also give the context that’s found later in the article that they explicitly don’t claim to be representative and so they don’t consider themselves to be carrying out deception. GraziePrego (talk) 06:56, 23 September 2024 (UTC)
I realized I got my sources confused, they were from the same site. I think it is better if we use the article that describers the organization as well as the one that describes the supporters.
Doesn't the neutrality of wikipedia mean that we should not trust the self description of people and organization over their description of others? Of course someone in general wouldn't admit to deception, but I think it is pretty clear that both for the AJA and the JCA that the names were chosen specifically to appear to the unwitting public as representative. Question from AJLeary on Wikipedia:Contents (21:19, 30 September 2024)

Hi. How do I go about creating a page for myself? --AJLeary (talk) 21:19, 30 September 2024 (UTC)

Hi there! If you mean creating a User page for yourself, then you can just click on your username and begin editing. If you mean creating an article about yourself, then that is not generally advised. Have a look at WP:COI. GraziePrego (talk) 01:30, 1 October 2024 (UTC)

Question from Blevitz05 (15:57, 1 October 2024)

Hi! Can you tell me what is my fastest way to become an auto-confirmed user? --Blevitz05 (talk) 15:57, 1 October 2024 (UTC)

Hi there, becoming auto-confirmed is just a thing that will naturally happen if you edit Wikipedia for a bit of time. You shouldn't be focusing on looking for a quick way to get there, if you just have fun editing Wikipedia and making good edits then you will become autoconfirmed in a short time. Happy editing! If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Australia's Voice requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, society, or group that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Thank you for improving articles on October! - My story today is a cantata 300 years old, based on a hymn 200 years old when the cantata was composed, based on a psalm some thousand years old, - so said the 2015 DYK hook. I had forgotten the discussion on the talk. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:48, 20 October 2024 (UTC)

Lidia Thorpe

You based your demolition of the separate "Controversies" section in the article on Lidia Thorpe on the premises of WP:CSECTION. However, that is a section of an essay, namely WP:NOCRIT, not a guideline or a policy, and, equally importantly, a section that is currently under discussion. Please revert your change until at least the discussion on that essay is resolved. -The Gnome (talk) 10:44, 23 October 2024 (UTC)

Hi. It may not be established policy, however I still believe that my edit was an improvement as lumping controversies into a specific section is a pretty poor way of avoiding NPOV. I've moved them into the "member of parliament" section which is where they fit better in my opinion, readers who read that section can make their own judgement about Thorpe's time in parliament without being explicitly told that what they are about to read is controversial. Question from C106672 (04:52, 19 November 2024)

HellOOOOOOO Grazie, First of all Thank you for the help you provide with this site! Obviously this is my first time here and that was because I did a Google search for Chevy Truck/PU information and wound up here. So my purpose here is not to edit but to source information which by the way what little bit I was in here I'm very impressed. So that being said, I am NOT by any stretch techy so I stumble and fumble my way around. After creating my account I intended to go back to where I was and of course I don't even know where to start and was hoping you might lend a hand if something like this is within your Job Description. If it's something you able to assist with I was in what I'm thinking might have been a talk option concerning Chevy C10 Pickup trucks. Please let me know if you can help or direct me in the right direction. Not necessary to respond tonite as I'm headed for bed.

Thank you in advance Steve Patterson --C106672 (talk) 04:52, 19 November 2024 (UTC)

Ways to improve Pre-election pendulum for the 2025 Australian federal election

Hello, GraziePrego,

Thank you for creating Pre-election pendulum for the 2025 Australian federal election.

Totally fair! I will have a look tomorrow. I just wanted to smash out the table in one go as it’s a lot of data entry grunt work. GraziePrego (talk) 11:53, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
I can completely understand that. TarnishedPathtalk 13:50, 26 November 2024 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Pre-election pendulum for the 2025 Australian federal election, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Brendan O'Connor. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

The voting phase begins at 00:01 on 16 December and runs until 23:59 on 31 December. Questions may be asked of candidates at any stage in the process. Elected coordinators will serve a six-month term from 1 January through 30 June.

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators, Dhtwiki, Miniapolis, Mox Eden and Wracking.

Question from Lesbianagrande (02:42, 10 December 2024)

Hello! I’d love to know more about your approach to editing short descriptions. How do you decide what to include or exclude when writing a concise summary for a Wikipedia page? What are some common challenges you face in this process? --Lesbianagrande (talk) 02:42, 10 December 2024 (UTC)

Hi there :) When writing short descriptions, it's important to think about the context in which they'll be seen. They will always pop up underneath the main title of the article either on mobile view or in some limited situations on the desktop version. For a person, you usually pick out their nationality, profession, and then years alive, so like "Australian politician (1920-2000)". For articles not about people, it can be a bit harder- the best guidelines are to look at WP:SDPURPOSE and WP:SDCONTENT. Hope that helps and happy editing! GraziePrego (talk) 02:53, 10 December 2024 (UTC)
I generally just look at the first sentence of the lead to get an idea. Noting that if the article title would be the same as the short description we shouldn't add a short description (happens a lot for articles which are not about people). TarnishedPathtalk 03:00, 10 December 2024 (UTC)

Question from Vitlayer (18:17, 11 December 2024)

Hello, first of all thank you for your time, I have a problem, that other colleagues of yours have not yet been able to answer me. The problem is: Wikipedia has contested two of my images in my first article, because they could be under Copyright, I pointed out that they are two photos taken by me of a video game of my property. I also pointed out that the same article presented in English Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Combat_(video_game), has two photos very similar to mine, even the photo of the box is much sharper than mine, but it did not have my problems. How is this possible?

Definition of Consensus

Hi, I recently made an edit of Boris Savinkov's Wikipedia article mentioning his appearance in Kaiserreich, a mod for the game Hearts of Iron IV, and you undid it, noting that there needed to be a consensus on its inclusion in the article. I was wondering what you meant by it, as I feel that since Kaiserreich is prominent enough to garner its own Wikipedia page, I feel that Savinkov's mention within Kaiserreich is notable enough to be included, especially concerning how unknown he is outside of Kaiserreich. RealSlimmy (talk) 23:50, 17 December 2024 (UTC)

Hi there, sorry for not explaining further- mentions of Kaiserreich on Savinkov's page have been removed in the past, so there currently appears to be editor consensus against including it. You've done the right thing by starting a discussion on the talk page, and we'll see what other people think. GraziePrego (talk) 00:14, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
Thank you, I appreciate the response. I apologize if my message seemed combative or aggressive in any way, it was not meant to be so. RealSlimmy (talk) 01:35, 18 December 2024 (UTC)

I updated the principal's name on the Ripley High School, West Virginia page. Then I thought I was going to make the words Ripley High School a hyperlink to the school website. 2025 Update from Women in Green

Hello GraziePrego:

2024 has wrapped up, and what a full year it was for WikiProject Women in Green! Over the past year, we hosted two edit-a-thons, one themed around women's history and another on women around the world. We also managed to achieve most of our 2024 annual goals, nominating 75 articles for GA, reviewing 64 GA nominations, nominating 8 articles for FAC, peer reviewing 3 articles and reviewing 10 FAC nominations. Excellent work, and thank you to everyone involved!

For 2025 we have a new set of goals for nominations and reviews. In particular, we would like to see more articles on our Hot 100 list being improved and nominated for GA this year. If you take a look at the list and see an article you are interested in contributing to, feel free to add it and yourself to our Hot 100 project discussion. You might even find someone interested in collaborating with you!

This year, as with every year, we hope you will join us in helping improve our coverage of women and women's works on this encyclopedia. Every contribution helps. We'll see you around!

DYK for 2023 Aston by-election

On 14 February 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article 2023 Aston by-election, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the 2023 Aston by-election was the first time in more than 100 years that the governing party won a seat from the opposition at an Australian by-election? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/2023 Aston by-election. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

story · music · places

Thank you for the article! On the main page also Edith Mathis, who portrayed young women by Mozart, the video of a 1993 interview has videos of her performances, - yesterday's story. - "places" come with food and flowers, - sharing with you ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:09, 14 February 2025 (UTC)

I point at a composer today, as the main page does. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:18, 20 February 2025 (UTC)

Wonderful! An interesting read. GraziePrego (talk) 23:50, 20 February 2025 (UTC)
Thank you, - not my work, but I found it very interesting. Today it's about a soprano whose performance impressed me (enough to write her article), - see video. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:08, 21 February 2025 (UTC)

Question from Molellenthabeleng (22:59, 25 February 2025)

Hi Mentor. I trust you are well?

Please kindly help me to add a Wikipedia Biography Article. A new one --Molellenthabeleng (talk) 22:59, 25 February 2025 (UTC)

To create a page, type the person's name into the search bar and then click on their name in red when it prompts you to do so. You can then start creating the page. Make sure the person is notable enough to have a Wikipedia page- WP:GNG GraziePrego (talk) 23:53, 25 February 2025 (UTC)
