Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Fashion
![]() | Points of interest related to Fashion on Wikipedia: Portal – Category – WikiProject – Alerts – Deletions – Cleanup – Stubs – Assessment – To-do |
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Fashion or clothing. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Fashion|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Fashion or clothing. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

There is no "national cockade" of the Philippines - either legally defined or widely documented. The only source on the article is a 1898miniaturas.com blog maintained by miniature enthusiasts who assumes the cockade is a common feature of Katipunan revolutionaries hats from an infographic (which to be fair is from the Malacanang Museum). This article is also full of original research and WP:SYNTH making conjectures that the cockade became less fashionable due to the American era Flag Code. WP:NOTNEWS. There is no indication so far that this is anything but a WP:NOTNEWS WP:TOOSOON story, and can at best be merged to the company. Companies have advertisements with celebrities all the time. It's something that Wikipedia is becoming, but we don't need an article on every culture-war story from the US or UK just because there's a hundred opinion columns over a week or so. The news coverage by news wires such as Reuters is unremarkable compared to any other advertising campaign [5]. Then you get websites that need clicks and engagement such as The Guardian (first example I saw) [6] which cites several anonymous Twitter and TikTok users hating the advertisement, and then a few at the end who did like it. Completely unremarkable. This story is just the mirror image of online right-wingers throwing a fit when an advertisement has somebody non-white, or LGBT - certainly that is not something that needs dignifying with a Wikipedia article. The only possible exception to that would be the Bud Light boycott, which stretched for months and had an impact on sales and shares. Delete or Draftify.Too soon & not notable. Agree with the above comments. Wikipedia doesn't need to turn into the "Chronicle of EVERY Celebrity Ad & Commercial". Just the campaigns that have an impact on culture & sales (for example, Coke's I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing (In Perfect Harmony) campaign or Daisy (advertisement)). - Shearonink (talk) 13:12, 30 July 2025 (UTC)- Merge content into American Eagle Outfitters & have a Redirect to AEO. - Redirect to American Eagle Outfitters. The current kerfuffle is reminiscent of the Calvin Klein campaign with Brooke Shields, which is addressed in context in the clothing brand's article and her article, not as a stand-alone article. - Redirect to American Eagle Outfitters#Sydney Sweeney ad campaign for now. I will note that we have a standalone article on the Kendall Jenner Pepsi commercial, which also drew widespread criticism, though I don't recall the White House weighing in on that one. - Redirect to American Eagle Outfitters- This has generated widespread discussion, debate and discourse but this is really about American Eagle and this should be covered on their page. It is a controversy related to that company and it should be covers within that context. I can understand why right now some would want there to be a separate article for it. But people will stop talking about this and will move on. Before we know it there will be some other controversial ad that everyone will be talking about. Will we need an article for that situation? Probably not. But it just seems logical to cover all of this on the American Eagle page. NevadaExpert (talk) 23:13, 2 August 2025 (UTC)

- Keep: Much like the Kendall Jenner Pepsi Ad or the Dylan Mulvaney/Bud Light promotion this marketing campaign (and the reaction to it) has achieved cultural escape velocity. Given the direct responses from senior US political figures (incl. Trump), numerous newspaper editorials, and society at large, I find it really hard to believe that this won't leave a lasting cultural imprint. I also suspect that this will be studied by marketing firms around the world for years (whether positively or negatively remains to be seen). Either way, WP:LASTING cautions us "It may take weeks or months to determine whether or not an event has a lasting effect. This does not, however, mean recent events with unproven lasting effect are automatically non-notable." CASalt (talk) 05:34, 4 August 2025 (UTC)
- Merge to American Eagle Outfitters. Too soon and not notable in its its own right. I wasn't even aware of this brand until I heard about the ad campaign.
- Keep This advertisement has actually drawn so much attention that talk radio shows such as the The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show and even President Trump has chimed in on this one [8] [9] [10]. When something gets massive coverage in the news we typically consider WP:GNG is not only met but the article stands on its own. Junglecat (talk) 17:29, 4 August 2025 (UTC)

Quote: ‘'...Industry analysts are saying that the ad represents a cultural turning point away from hyper-wokeism and towards more traditional forms of advertising.’’ [11] That jeans company stock is up. It sure beats the goofy Bud Light fiasco. These are lessons learned in business. This article of this ad is a keeper no matter which angle you see it. Junglecat (talk) 14:12, 5 August 2025 (UTC)

I am just enraged by the deplorable stupidity of this pseudo-controversy about a non-subject which should not even have registered anywhere in the first place, but unfortunately it has become notable. Even the international media are talking about it now. So I guess it warrants a page, if only as an example of the utter and complete idiocy of some media controversies in the current "culture wars/social media" atmosphere. "Independent content", in order to count towards establishing notability, must include original and independent opinion, analysis, investigation, and fact checking that are clearly attributable to a source unaffiliated to the subject. The brand was "launched" in August 2023 and these sources are simply regurgitating the same information provided by the founder about herself and the new brand. Fails ORGIND and NCORP.
