Undeletion request for some non-free files

Hi Explicit, could you kindly undelete the following files?

They were replaced with Commons images with false licenses, leaving them orphaned; you later (correctly) deleted them as F5. The Commons images have now been deleted, so it'd be nice to have the local images again. Best, Pi.1415926535 (talk) 23:40, 8 October 2025 (UTC)

Lulu Adams page deletion query

Hi @Explicit, I've been looking into Lulu Adams and her family who were all quite prolific clowns/circus entertainers in their lifetimes and started a page to see that it has previously been created and deleted. Is this purely because of a violation of a ban from that user or are there other issues with this subject? It looks like there are a lot of verifiable sources on the topic but I don't want to put in the work for the page to be deleted. I also note that she has a page on spanish and french wiki so she should be sufficiently notable.

Thanks in advance for your help with this query TheResilientEngineer (talk) 12:26, 10 October 2025 (UTC)

@TheResilientEngineer: Hi, G5 is in fact the only reason this article was deleted. You are free to recreate if you see it fit. plicit 13:22, 11 October 2025 (UTC)

Available on commons deletion

Hi Explicit,

Just wanted to let you know about a common issue with files "made available on Commons"... a lot of them don't actually abide by Commons copyright rules which require it to be free in both the source country and the us. Sometimes the tags are placed on the file, but are incorrect. For example, with File:Waffen-SS invade a Greek village, April 1941.jpeg there is no evidence provided that would support the alleged publication of over 70 years ago. Many editors incorrectly assume that because it was photographed a long time ago, it must be free. (t · c) buidhe 13:14, 11 October 2025 (UTC)

@Buidhe: Hi, in the example you linked above, the source itself says the image is in the public domain under the "Rights & Restrictions" section. Are you saying that this claim is incorrect? plicit 13:22, 11 October 2025 (UTC)
The source is published in the US so I assume it is correct for US copyright law but why would it be reasonable to assume it holds anywhere in the world? I'm familiar with their copyright tagging and I've definitely seen many cases where they claim public domain but there are no European PD tags that can be applied. (t · c) buidhe 13:25, 11 October 2025 (UTC)
(talk page watcher)@Buidhe: You could tag the files you upload with {{Do not move to Commons}} if you have concerns about their copyright status in their country of first publication but feel the file is PD in the US. You could give a brief reason as to why in the template and go into more detail (if needed) on the file's talk page. As for this particular file, you might find the discussion at c:COM:VPC#Copyright status of March 1941 of Luftwaffe image interesting because its about another image from WWII that is being considered for a similar type of licensing. -- Marchjuly (talk) 13:27, 11 October 2025 (UTC)
I don't see any evidence that this photo was published 70 years ago as claimed and therefore PD in Europe. Maybe there is such evidence for the other photo they are discussing. Yes, I can tag do not move to commons but that IME doesn't stop various misguided editors from trying to migrate all my photos there and get them deleted here. (t · c) buidhe 13:34, 11 October 2025 (UTC)
Of course, someone could just ignore the "Do not copy" template; my guess, though, is that most probably won't and even when they do the file still would need to be reviewed by an admin for a WP:F8 deletion with the tag on it. Moreover, anything you post on the file's talk page shouldn't be removed per WP:TPO and would still be there for the same admin to review. As for the file on Commons, you could ask about it at VPC to see whether there's a likelihood of it being deleted or you could nominate it for deletion yourself. If it does end up being deleted, you could request that the local version be restored via WP:REFUND and add {{Deleted on Commons}} to the local file's page. FWIW, I'm not saying what happened is your fault, but, while those moving files might make mistakes, I don't think they're moving files out of malice or to just get them deleted locally (a PD licensed image isn't really anyone in particular's image anyway): they're most likely making a good-faith mistake. Perhaps Explicit will just restore the local version of the file, given User talk:Cyrius/Archive 2#Incorrect image deletions and Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/IncidentArchive1194#Editor ignoring copyright policy, not responding to talk page, and you can add {{Keep local}} to it and post why on the file's talk page. You could also do something similar for any other files you're worried about being moved. -- Marchjuly (talk) 14:17, 11 October 2025 (UTC)
Yes, I should use these templates anyway since at least I see on my watchlist if they are removed, whereas I have no way of knowing if the file gets copied to Commons. (t · c) buidhe 15:22, 11 October 2025 (UTC)
@Buidhe: Do you happen to have a complete list of affected files? I can restore them all at once and then proceed with dealing with the Commons transfers.

The other ones have been fixed already so I would appreciate if you undeleted this one. I will add the template so it hopefully doesn't get mistakenly deleted against. Thanks! (t · c) buidhe 03:19, 12 October 2025 (UTC)

@Buidhe:  Done. plicit 00:48, 13 October 2025 (UTC)

TFD close review requested

Sorry to jump in late, but I have posted a request to review a TFD closure. Thanks. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:01, 11 October 2025 (UTC)

@Jonesey95: It looks like the template was already deleted as I had gone to bed. Primefac may have not seen your comment. Is there an actual free equivalent of the flag? plicit 23:41, 11 October 2025 (UTC)
No, there is not one yet, but I think there is potential for one to be created. Do you know where to find the list of contributions that removed the template's transclusions from pages? I see this edit to the holding cell in Primefac's contributions, but no related edits to articles. I would like to ensure that the template was substituted and not simply removed, along with the country name. – Jonesey95 (talk) 23:59, 11 October 2025 (UTC)
@Jonesey95: I'm not aware of how to check who orphaned a template. No TFDH regulars seemed to have done it and I can't figure out who did. plicit 00:48, 13 October 2025 (UTC)

Deletion of Walter Carlos 1972 album cover

Why have you deleted this Walter Carlos 1972 album cover which is still on ru-WP as ru:Файл:Walter_Carlos’_Clockwork_Orange.png?

The person re-released the album on CD in 1998 as Wendy Carlos. Instead of showing both pics, the 1972 original was recently replaced in the article. And you just deleted it, a rather controversial use of your admin powers. Please restore it. 91.6.182.158 (talk) 18:18, 12 October 2025 (UTC)

The page history of A Clockwork Orange: Wendy Carlos's Complete Original Score shows that this file was replaced by The Midnite Wolf in accordance to WP:DEADNAME. I simply deleted the file as orphaned. This is a matter you should discuss either on the user's talk page or the article's talk page. plicit 00:48, 13 October 2025 (UTC)

Stephen Matthews (writer)

Hi Explicit. I'd like you to reconsider your close of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Stephen Matthews (writer). Yes there was clear consensus that there should not be an article for the Stephen Matthews that occupied that page at the time. No disputing that. However there was no consensus to delete an article on another subject, Stephen Matthews (1946-2024), who had occupied the page prior to Hijacking. I believe that part of the page should be restored. The afd was mostly about the one Matthews (and largely focused on the current state of the article) and the the only non vague wave to the other Matthews suggested merging and not deletion of anything on him. Restoring the earlier history can be done whilst keeping a delete close for the afd with a note about the pre hijacked version. Thanks. duffbeerforme (talk) 13:17, 13 October 2025 (UTC)

Tannenberg bold

Thank you for revising the licence status for file:Tannenberg Bold.png and revealing the previous versions. The current version is much reduced (and so less useful) than the original version I copied from de.Wikipedia. I had to do that to comply with the rules as given at the time. @JMF: Yes, as the file is now freely licensed and no longer subject to WP:NFC, the higher resolution revision can be reverted back to. plicit 12:12, 15 October 2025 (UTC)

Cynergy Bank Deletion

Hi Explicit, you will have to forgive me, I’m still getting the hang of editing on Wikipedia. I noticed you previously deleted the Cynergy Bank page, which I understand might not have met the criteria at the time. However I feel it now deserves a page.

I think there’s enough reliable coverage to justify a proper article. Would you be open to having a quick look at a draft if I put one together?

Thanks Fredoc55 (talk) 10:50, 15 October 2025 (UTC)

@Fredoc55: Hi, Cynergy Bank was deleted almost six years ago by a different admin. If you believe that you can create a version that satisfies the general notability criteria or the notability criteria for companies, you are free to do so. I personally do not review drafts, but you can submit your work through the Articles for creation process. plicit 12:12, 15 October 2025 (UTC)

A speedy you made was not a F8

At File:Richard Hanania.png you carried out a F8. Is it possible for you to restore this image at enwp? jp×g🗯️ 08:01, 15 October 2025 (UTC)

Gaurav Dewasi

Hi Explicit - I doubt that you remember, but in July 2023 you closed Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Gaurav Dewasi as delete. There have been numerous attempts to promote Gaurav Dewasi over several years, as I have (partly) documented at User:Arjayay/Gaurav Dewasi. These include indeffing User:Gaurav Dewasi Official as a sock of User:Btw Santhosh.
You also had a long thread at User_talk:Explicit/Archive_54#For_creating_Gaurav_Dewasi's_page in October/November 2024, which led to you deleting a draft and blocking an IP.
We now have a new promoter 103.170.46.228 (talk · contribs · IP contribs · WHOIS), all but 2 of whose edits are to promote Gaurav Dewasi in some way or another; adding his name to existing articles (e.g. in 4 places at List of Rajasthani-language films) and starting Draft:Gora Badal (film) an upcoming film Dewasi supposedly stars in.
I suspect this is another User:Btw Santhosh sock, but SPI will not link an IP to a user, and even if it isn't a sock, it appears highly promotional. How do I proceed? - Best wishes - Arjayay (talk) 12:28, 17 October 2025 (UTC)

RfD for Zimbabwe at the 2025 World Para Athletics Championships

I didn't see this RfD until it was too late, but it was nominated based on two false claims; that the country did not compete at the Championships and that the country was not mentioned in the target article.

We can verify that Zimbabwean athlete Kudakwashe Chigwedere did participate in the champshionships from their website and that Zimbabwe is listed at the target article under 2025 World Para Athletics Championships#Nations at spot #35. Social media post about his participation in the competition here [1]. His competed in the Men's 100m T47 Round 1 - Heat 1 with a time of 10:40 on 27 September 2025 and his status was listed as "finished".

Due to a spam filter from Wikipedia I am not able to post the link to their website, but if you paste reference 7 from the target article 2025 World Para Athletics Championships#Nations into your browser, you can navigate to "Athletes" at the top of the page and filter by country to find the Zimbabwean athlete.

All of the !voters in the RfD seem to not have verified the claims made by the editor who nominated the redirect. I ask that you please reverse this deletion, thanks. Katzrockso (talk) 04:09, 18 October 2025 (UTC)

I believe now that I am incorrect, that he was supposed to compete but was marked as DNS, which was not clear when I went to the website at first. I had to navigate to another place on their website to find this specific result. I apologize. Katzrockso (talk) 04:40, 20 October 2025 (UTC)

Deletion review for Stephen Matthews (writer)

An editor has asked for a deletion review of Stephen Matthews (writer). Because you closed the deletion discussion for this page, speedily deleted it, or otherwise were interested in the page, you might want to participate in the deletion review. duffbeerforme (talk) 13:16, 20 October 2025 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Template:Lang-ru requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, at Wikipedia:Templates_for_discussion/Log/2024_September_27#Replace_and_delete_lang-??_templates. When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Deletion of page “AcreTrader” on 17 October 2025 02:38

Greetings, I am curious to the reasoning behind the deletion of page regarding “AcreTrader” as previously stated 17 October 2025 02:38. It seems by search engine results that an entire article had previously been created pertaining to this subject containing the sentences, “AcreTrader is an American real estate investment company specializing in farmland. The company aims to increase investor access to real assets while providing…”.

Although agreed potentially sensitive and inflammatory material could be present, I believe there to be necessary context relevant in this current state of politics, no matter how inflammatory (see 1st Amendment). 2600:8804:7C80:1560:F052:9142:CD9A:F331 (talk) 08:54, 21 October 2025 (UTC)

Your use of C4

Hi, I don't think categories like Category:Mid-importance Anti-war articles meet the definition of a "maintenance category". Therefore your use of criterion C4 may be too liberal. I tagged it with C1 not C4. Regards — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:21, 23 October 2025 (UTC)

@MSGJ: C4 applies to "tracking categories no longer used by a template after a rewrite". These categories became empty when the parameters of Template:WikiProject Anti-war that populated them were removed. How is this not exactly the situation the criterion describes? plicit 12:10, 23 October 2025 (UTC)

Godfrey Issacs photos

Hi Explicit. I tagged File:Car radio demo early 1920s.jpg, File:Godfrey Issacs with Dane Nellie Melba and Mrs Lea Constance Isaacs.jpg, File:Marconi and Isaacs.jpg and File:Godfrey-isaacs.jpg for speedy deletion per F4 because they lacked a source at the time. The uploader's subsequently added www.marconi-veterans.org/index.php/newsletters/2024-newsletter/172-24a06-godfrey-isaacs-and-the-bbc to each file's page, so I understand why you declined to delete them per F4. I tried working with the uploader to try and sort things out regarding their various uploads at both User talk:Leonard9ca and c:User talk:Leonard9ca, but things never got very far. All of the file related notifications on their Commons user talk page are concerning, and the source website provided for the files doesn't provide much help in terms of provenance. In addition, the "Car radio demo early 1920s.jpg" photo kind of looks like it might've been colorized after the fact since the one on the website isn't exactly the same. Are these OK as licensed in your opinion or should they be discussed furhter at FFD? If they're OK, they probably should be on Commons:c:File:Godfrey Issacs with Dane Nellie Melba and Mrs Lea Constance Isaacs.jpg and c:File:Godfrey-isaacs.jpg in fact, are already on Commons, which means the local versions probably aren't needed per F8. -- Marchjuly (talk) 03:20, 25 October 2025 (UTC)

@Marchjuly: Hi, as you're probably aware, c:COM:PUB requires evidence that a photo was published as defined by the copyright laws listed on that licensing information page. While the source may not completely adequately satisfy publication requirements, it was enough for it to no longer qualify for deletion under F4. If doubts remain about the publication information and copyright status, the files should be discussed at FFD and c:COM:DR, respectively. plicit 13:15, 25 October 2025 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply. FWIW, I wasn't challenging your decision to not delete the files per F4. I understand and have no problem with that decision. So, my apologies if my OP made it sound like I thought you should've deleted the files instead. I'd just like your opinion (i.e. a second opinion) as to whether you think these should be discussed further either at FFD or COM:DR or whether they're OK as is. I haven't had much success in discussing things with the uploader. They're not trying to evade the question, being dishonest, being rude, or anything like that; they just are so worried of being blocked for doing something wrong that they just end up saying delete everything. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:40, 25 October 2025 (UTC)

Question about redirect CSD's

Hi Explicit, just a short question, you recently deleted Josh Simons (entrepreneur), but I think there was a problem. The user did some weird moves over a few different edges to make the moves look like ordinary Draftifications while I think that they were just gaming the system to get redirects they didn't like deleted. Primefac gave them a warning to get consensus, so I think the draftifications were improper anyways as they were contested. But there is some page history I can't see so maybe I missed something and they should be deleted? Best, Squawk7700 (talk) 14:16, 26 October 2025 (UTC)

@Squawk7700: Hi, thanks for bringing this to my attention. The page moves are quite a mess, but I've moved Josh Simons (entrepreneur) and its talk page back to the place they were originally created. @Widgetkid: Hi, your argument relied entirely on the premise of a hypothetical content fork for this particular cover that does not exist to justify the inclusion in Enjoy the Silence. You cited WP:COVERSONG, which does not address cover art at all, and misrepresented WP:NFC#cite_note-3, which addresses only the first use of a non-free media file. Remember, There is no automatic entitlement to use non-free content in an article or elsewhere on Wikipedia, and even then, we must use as few non-free files as possible. plicit 00:06, 28 October 2025 (UTC)
@Explicit, thank you for that additional perspective. I'm struggling with how the policy applies to cover art of significant cover versions.
In many cases, the cover version of a song has enough coverage & charting to warrant it's own article (e.g. if it had been an original single), but is included in the original version's article for encyclopedic organization. In those cases, wouldn't the significance of the cover version warrant adding the cover art for identification purposes (like any other single with it's own article)?  ⚙️ WidgetKid 🙈🙉🙊  17:37, 28 October 2025 (UTC)

Guide to temporary accounts

Hello, Explicit. This message is being sent to remind you of significant upcoming changes regarding logged-out editing.

Starting 4 November, logged-out editors will no longer have their IP address publicly displayed. Instead, they will have a temporary account (TA) associated with their edits. Users with some extended rights like administrators and CheckUsers, as well as users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will still be able to reveal temporary users' IP addresses and all contributions made by temporary accounts from a specific IP address or range.

How do temporary accounts work?

  • When a logged-out user completes an edit or a logged action for the first time, a cookie will be set in this user's browser and a temporary account tied with this cookie will be automatically created for them. This account's name will follow the pattern: ~2025-12345-67 (a tilde, year of creation, a number split into units of 5).
  • All subsequent actions by the temporary account user will be attributed to this username. The cookie will expire 90 days after its creation. As long as it exists, all edits made from this device will be attributed to this temporary account. It will be the same account even if the IP address changes, unless the user clears their cookies or uses a different device or web browser.
  • A record of the IP address used at the time of each edit will be stored for 90 days after the edit. Users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will be able to see the underlying IP addresses.
  • As a measure against vandalism, there are two limitations on the creation of temporary accounts:
    • There has to be a minimum of 10 minutes between subsequent temporary account creations from the same IP (or /64 range in case of IPv6).
    • There can be a maximum of 6 temporary accounts created from an IP (or /64 range) within a period of 24 hours.

Temporary account IP viewer user right

How to enable IP Reveal

Impact for administrators

  • It will be possible to block many abusers by just blocking their temporary accounts. A blocked person won't be able to create new temporary accounts quickly if the admin selects the autoblock option.
  • It will still be possible to block an IP address or IP range.
  • Temporary accounts will not be retroactively applied to contributions made before the deployment. On Special:Contributions, you will be able to see existing IP user contributions, but not new contributions made by temporary accounts on that IP address. Instead, you should use Special:IPContributions for this (see a video about IPContributions in a gallery below).

Rules about IP information disclosure

  • Publicizing an IP address gained through TAIV access is generally not allowed (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 previously edited as 192.0.2.1 or ~2025-12345-67's IP address is 192.0.2.1).
  • Publicly linking a TA to another TA is allowed if "reasonably believed to be necessary". (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 and ~2025-12345-68 are likely the same person, so I am counting their reverts together toward 3RR, but not Hey ~2025-12345-68, you did some good editing as ~2025-12345-67)
  • See Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer § What can and can't be said for more detailed guidelines.

Useful tools for patrollers

  • It is possible to view if a user has opted-in to view temporary account IPs via the User Info card, available in Preferences → Appearance → Advanced options → Tick Enable the user info card
    • This feature also makes it possible for anyone to see the approximate count of temporary accounts active on the same IP address range.
  • Special:IPContributions allows viewing all edits and temporary accounts connected to a specific IP address or IP range.
  • Similarly, Special:GlobalContributions supports global search for a given temporary account's activity.
  • The auto-reveal feature (see video below) allows users with the right permissions to automatically reveal all IP addresses for a limited time window.

Non-free book cover media deletion

Hi there. I saw that you had deleted the image File:Robot City Book 1 Odyssey.jpg earlier this year as it wasn't being used. I would like to restore it for the page Isaac Asimov's Robot City. I've been making improvements to the page and would like to use this image for the infobox. SkyGuySSS (talk) 02:40, 30 October 2025 (UTC)

Change in CSD policy

Hello, Explicit,

I'm not sure how much you check in on WP:AN but I thought I'd alert you to a change in CSD policy. We have both used WP:CSD U5 when reviewing lists of upcoming stale drafts, CSD G13s, but this criteria has now been replaced by two new CSD criteria, WP:U6 and WP:U7. You can find more detailed information at Wikipedia:Replacement of CSD U5 FAQ. Thank you and I hope you are having a great autumn! Liz Read! Talk! 22:38, 31 October 2025 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Magyarországi Bőripari Munkások Szövetsége

Hi. I'd like to request undeletion of Magyarországi Bőripari Munkások Szövetsége. The AfD nomination was not particularly detailed, no indication that WP:BEFORE was done. There is potential reference material, such as the article A Magyarországi Bőripari Munkások Szövetsége szervezeti felépítésének alakulásáról és az iratok rendezéséről (which would constitute a clear case of in-depth coverage), plus several works available on Google Books. -- Soman (talk) 07:56, 1 November 2025 (UTC)

Quick note regarding editor

Hi @Explicit! Just wanted to bring your attention to this. The crossed out vote at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Self mentoring is technically in limbo and may not have been legitimately struck out by the other editor. I don't know if this still makes the AfD an expired PROD, but it's something to look out for if other AfDs today are in a similar state to this one. Thanks! 11WB (talk) 14:16, 4 November 2025 (UTC)

@11WB: Hi, I'm not sure what to think of striking across several discussions, but the result of this discussion would not have been any different. Participation was low and the case was not something I considered needing more input, so it would have been soft deleted anyway. plicit 23:50, 4 November 2025 (UTC)

File:Bada Lee Signature.jpg

Hi Explicit. Could you take a look at File:Bada Lee Signature.jpg? No source info or copyright license was provided by the uploader, but it might come from here or maybe even here. It's possible this could be c:COM:SIG and OK for Commons, but not sure about c:COM:SIG South Korea since there seems to be an element of creativity to the signature. The level of creativity might even be enough to push it above the c:COM:SIG US meaning it would need to be treated as non-free on Wikipedia. -- Marchjuly (talk) 09:26, 3 November 2025 (UTC)

@Marchjuly: Hi, even by U.S. standards, this is likely not eligible for copyright protection given c:COM:SIG United States, as the threshold for signatures is quite high. The same seems to holds true for South Korea, as copyright protection is only granted if the signature is particularly complex or if calligraphy is signed. However, this particular file lacks a source, so it can be still be deleted on that basis. plicit 23:50, 4 November 2025 (UTC)
Thanks for taking a look. The image has already been tagged for speedy deletion per WP:F4 by ImageTaggingBot. If the uploader adds a source and license before the file ends up being deleted, I'll convert the license to {{PD-signature}} and tag it for a move to Commons. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:16, 5 November 2025 (UTC)

Undelete File:Copa Cable Magico 2008.jpg

Hi. Can File:Copa Cable Magico 2008.jpg be undeleted. It was previously on Liga 1 (Peru) but for some reason removed from the page (my guess is because the article name changed) and the old rationale was no longer valid. MicroX (talk) 04:03, 9 November 2025 (UTC)

@MicroX: Hi, while I normally restore files upon request, the inclusion of this particular logo in Liga 1 (Peru) violates WP:NFC#cite_note-4, as former logos can only be used in articles if the design of the logo itself is subject to sourced critical commentary. I've just nominated File:Logo copa.png for deletion citing that reason. Your addition of this logo in the season articles isn't much better. plicit 04:19, 9 November 2025 (UTC)

Autopatrolled eligibility

Hello there. I just noticed that you were checking on articles to make sure they are valid and giving tips to others. You are one of the most active and nice admins I have seen. Speaking of which, I came here to thank you and also ask you if I would be eligible to be Wikipedia:Autopatrolled because I don't want to get rejected on the request page.

I have been active ever since I joined Wikipedia 7 months and 10 days from now, and have more than 1400+ edits made and have created 49 articles with only 2 deleted pages (One was deleted because it had no content which I did it on accident, while the other one was deleted because of unreliability, but I fixed it to its original page, Chitsai and improved it to B-class). I have been upgrading articles to C or B-class and I recently haven't had any notability issues, reliability issues (adding unreliable sources like blogs), no spamming, no edit warring, etc. My major articles are always kept as patrolled by reviewers. Seems there's no problem or issue about my articles’ writing style and notability issues.

I believe that if I get the right, it'll significantly reduce the load of the reviewers to read my articles, and also be responsible for my right. Thanks again, dear admin and I look forward to your response. :) • Please tag/mention me to reply back -Victor Ningthemcha :) - talk 10:26, 10 November 2025 (UTC)

@Victor Ningthemcha: Hi, thanks for reaching out and trusting in me to consider if you're a good candidate to apply for Autopatrolled. I randomly looked at a few of the pages you created, and there were some issues that gave me pause.
First, you performed what appears to be a cut-and-paste move when you added content to Ajit Sai and turned Chitsai into a redirect, and the the edit summary you left on the former reads "temporary test". If your intent was to rename the page, then this suggests that you may not be familiar with attribution requirements, which is a copyright issue. Per WP:APCRITERIA, understanding copyright is essential in gaining the Autopatrolled right. If it was a series of test edits, then you should be aware that mainspace is not the appropriate place to carry those out. You can use the sandbox, or test your edits in your userspace.
A separate issue I noticed was over at Bharatsai, where Kautilya3 removed a self-published source that you added to the article. This brings up sourcing issues that are a part of understanding the Verifiability policy, which is also one of the criteria for the Autopatrolled right.
You area of work touches on topics that require more editors and you provide valuable contributions. However, I feel that you need a bit more experience regarding editing practices and identifying appropriate sources for use in Wikipedia articles before you consider applying for the right. plicit 12:07, 10 November 2025 (UTC)

File:Lacuna_Coil_Enjoy_the_Silence2.jpg

Hi @Explicit. I'm trying to understand the deletion of File:Lacuna_Coil_Enjoy_the_Silence2.jpg. There was no consensus reached and the only response (mine) was to keep it. What am I mising? Thanks!  ⚙️ WidgetKid 🙈🙉🙊  15:59, 27 October 2025 (UTC)

Revived topic. @Explicit Additional thoughts?  ⚙️ WidgetKid 🙈🙉🙊  19:17, 4 November 2025 (UTC)
@Widgetkid: Per WP:NFC#CS, "only a single item of non-free content meets the [contextual significance] criterion". This holds true even when the original artist releases a new version of the same song, as is the case for All I Want for Christmas Is You#Mariah Carey and Justin Bieber version. Simply charting does not justify including additional cover art. If the cover version was subject to significant coverage, perhaps the cover would not have been nominated to begin with, but that was not the case here. plicit 23:50, 4 November 2025 (UTC)
@Explicit, how significant does the coverage need to be? Lacuna's version has more than some single articles I've seen (for non-cover singles). If the cover version warrants a section & infobox, couldn't it have it's own article, so would meet the contextual significance criterion?
To reverse that logic, if a cover isn't significant enough to warrant a section & infobox, it wouldn't meet the criterion. For example, the Korn cover of Another Brick in the Wall used to have its own section, but was reduced to a bullet/mention due to lack of significance.
Thanks for your help on this!  ⚙️ WidgetKid 🙈🙉🙊  16:32, 10 November 2025 (UTC)
If you still have issues with the results, please further take this to WP:DRV then. George Ho (talk) 18:04, 14 November 2025 (UTC)
@George Ho: Nah. Just trying to better understand and discuss with @Explicit.  ⚙️ WidgetKid 🙈🙉🙊  22:01, 14 November 2025 (UTC)
@Widgetkid: It's difficult to measure the exact amount of prose to justify a second non-free image in an article and WP:NCOVER isn't particularly helpful, but holding a cover version up against the requirements of WP:NSONG might be a better consideration. The Lacuna Coil example (prior to the section being merged) is not a particularly good example, as it lacked significant coverage from multiple sources.
Whether a cover version should have its own section and infobox or be reduce to a bulleted mention, as is the case with the Korn cover of "Another Brick in the Wall", is an editorial decision and outside of the bounds of the original discussion.
I suppose the best way to look at it is, "Did this cover version receive enough coverage from reliable sources that it would be able to survive as a stand-alone article if it were an original single?" If the answer is no, then then cover art is not contextually significant, because the cover version lacks the coverage to support that claim. plicit 11:43, 16 November 2025 (UTC)

Can you please undelete the first revision and export it to Commons, the copyright was not renewed.  REAL 💬   15:38, 21 November 2025 (UTC)

Honestly I doubt the version uploaded to Commons is public domain. It will probably get deleted sometime in the future. Then we will be left with no picture at all, since it was also deleted from Enwiki. That's why we have the enwiki version, because the public domain status is contested. The rationale the uploader used on Commons is based on a misunderstanding. The military photographer had two cameras, one B&W the other color. The B&W was for official purposes in the line of duty. The color camera was his personal camera. This how those color photos ended up on the cover of Life magazine and caused such a shit storm, because the government couldn't stop him from doing what he wanted with his personal photos. -- GreenC 02:39, 20 November 2025 (UTC)

@GreenC: If the copyright claim of the Commons file is contested, why haven't you nominated it for deletion there? Images with uncertain copyright statuses are sometimes deleted in accordance with the precautionary principle if your argument can convince the Commons community. The local file can be restored if it ends up being deleted as orphaned. plicit 03:42, 20 November 2025 (UTC)
Because I just saw it last night before I went to bed and I am pretty busy. I probably will nominate it, at some point when I have time, if no one else does. So I wanted to let you know right away because I've already researched it years ago and know the story. The Shadow process doesn't appear to account for this possibility of a recently uploaded image on Commons that has not yet been vetted by the community, and both images end up deleted, and nobody notices. Probably what I will do in this case is nominate Commons and remove that tag on Enwiki so it is not automatically deleted. -- GreenC 16:02, 20 November 2025 (UTC)
(talk page watcher) @GreenC: If you remove the {{Orfud}} template from an orphaned non-free file's page and the file remains unused, one of the bots looking for such files will most likely re-add the template during one of its runs. If the local file ends up being deleted before the Commons file get resolved, you can always request it be restored per WP:REFUND if necessary. WP:F5 deletions are mostly non-contentious and an administrator will mostly likely have no problem restoring the local file if the Commons one eventually ends up being deleted.
Another and probably better option here might be to just simply replace the Commons file with the local file, leaving an edit summary with a link to an article talk page message explaining why in more detail. As long as the local file is being used, it won't be tagged for speedy deletion per F5. Then, if the Commons file ends up being kept, you can replace the local file with the Commons one and then tag the local file for speedy deletion per F5 or WP:F8. If disagreements about the file can't be resolved through discussion on the article's talk page, you could then suggest WP:FFD since it involves a local file and a Commons file.
FWIW, Wikipedia isn't obligated to use images just because they've been uploaded to Commons; lots of copyvios get uploaded to Commons. Playing it safe and continuing to use a non-free files until concerns about a Commons file are resolved can be prudent. You should, though, try to sort things out regarding the Commons file as soon as you can. If you wait too long, others might re-add the Commons file again. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:10, 21 November 2025 (UTC)
@Marchjuly:, thank you I followed your suggestion and relink'd the original photo on enwiki, and opened a deletion discussion on Commons. I linked to this discussion in those edit summaries; User:Explicit if you would rather move this thread off your talk page let me know, or we can keep it here for the record. -- GreenC 02:38, 22 November 2025 (UTC)
@GreenC: Your nominating the file for deletion is in and of itself considered a delete !vote so to speak; so, you really shouldn't be !voting twice in that Commons DR. While I'm sure you meant well, you probably should either remove or strikethrough the second "delete" before others start responding to it. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:31, 23 November 2025 (UTC)

I would like that topic back that was deleted please. I was almost done aand anted to send it to see if it could be published. Logan Z Man 2022! (talk) 16:12, 24 November 2025 (UTC)

@Logan Z Man 2022!: Done – as a draft or Articles for creation submission deleted under CSD G13, the page has been restored upon request. They are not for the indefinite hosting of material that is unsuitable for inclusion in the encyclopedia. Please continue to work on the draft so that it meets Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for inclusion, prior to another six months elapsing. plicit 23:43, 24 November 2025 (UTC)

@Mitsingh: List of butterflies of India was recently changed to a draft and is now at Draft:List of butterflies of India. I tried to restore it, but was unable because it had been deleted as an "R2: Cross-namespace redirect from mainspace". Mitsingh is working on improving that and it looks like good work is going on, but it's a big project and will take a while. In the mean time List of butterflies of India no longer exists and several hundred pages have links to that list. Until the draft is completed, I think this version of List of butterflies of India should be restored so readers will have access to it. Thank you. SchreiberBike | ⌨  12:08, 24 November 2025 (UTC)

@SchreiberBike: I moved the page back into mainspace. As my edit summary states, WP:DRAFTNO does not allow for articles to be moved into draftspace if they are older than 90 days. plicit 12:14, 24 November 2025 (UTC)
Would it be reasonable for the mainspace version of the article to be this version and to restore Draft:List of butterflies of India as a draft until it is ready to replace List of butterflies of India? That way Mitsingh can continue to work on that project while the old page is available for readers. SchreiberBike | ⌨  12:19, 24 November 2025 (UTC)
@SchreiberBike That would work better Mitsingh (talk) 12:20, 24 November 2025 (UTC)
@SchreiberBike Thanks for the change! Should I put a "under-construction" message on top of the page? Mitsingh (talk) 12:19, 24 November 2025 (UTC)
@Mitsingh: I have created Draft:List of butterflies of India - major edit of existing page for you to keep working on and I have reverted List of butterflies of India to the version before Draft:List of butterflies of India was created. I explained the changes in the edit summary. I think this makes sense, but I don't know all of Wikipedia's rules, so I may have messed something up. SchreiberBike | ⌨  00:52, 25 November 2025 (UTC)

Hello, I saw that you deleted this page under WP:G2. Could you please restore the draft, I think it may have looked like a test page but I'm actually hoping to write this article when I have the time. Thank you — Cosmic6811 T/C 16:41, 27 November 2025 (UTC)

@Cosmic6811:  Done, draft restored. plicit 02:44, 28 November 2025 (UTC)

Would you mind undeleting this? It is part of a series of templates, and not having it is detrimental to WP:CITEVAR. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 15:59, 15 November 2025 (UTC)

@Headbomb: Will this template be utilized? Being orphaned is the reason it was deleted both times. plicit 11:43, 16 November 2025 (UTC)
It's part of a series of templates, deleting it is detrimal to WP:CITEVAR flexibility. See Wikipedia:Templates_for_discussion/Log/2016_October_1#Template:OSTI and the prior DRV for the consensus that these are useful even if currently unused, because they can become used as they are expected to exist. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 20:02, 16 November 2025 (UTC)
Headbomb, if you get it undeleted, please ensure that it is transcluded somewhere so that it does not show up on reports of unused templates. – Jonesey95 (talk) 05:26, 17 November 2025 (UTC)
If it wasn't used then no editor was using it for citations which means that it isn't needed. As the nominator, I'm not against in restoring it, but not because "it might be used by someone, someday in the future". If there isn't currently a very specific usage (and more than one, at least 10), then it shouldn't be restored. Gonnym (talk) 13:55, 17 November 2025 (UTC)
@Jonesey95: that's pretty easy to do. @Gonnym: that a template might be used is a reason to keep it. See WP:TFD#REASONS #3. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 10:23, 19 November 2025 (UTC)
And yet, I will oppose restoring if that is the only reason. Gonnym (talk) 13:25, 25 November 2025 (UTC)

@Explicit: can you restore this, or do we really need to go through deletion review and 3 more weeks of debate and relists? This should not have been speedied in the first place. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 17:00, 30 November 2025 (UTC)

Yes you do. The template was at TfD and it was deleted. I commented here and said if you will use it I won't have an issue with restoring it. If the template is restored and not used it will end up in TfD again and deleted again. Gonnym (talk) 17:06, 30 November 2025 (UTC)

"Jon Bostock"

Hello, I have noticed you're deleting many of the pages I tagged relating to "Jon Bostock" (they're all identical and being recreated with slightly different names) – see User talk:Alex132219georgia#UPE. Where do you think is best to escalate this if I suspect UPE? (regardless, the endless list of warnings they've received for vandalism etc. warrants action regardless). I wanted to just reach out on their talk first, but they've continued to recreate the same page and try circumvent speedy deletion (including removing speedy deletion tags). I don't know which noticeboard is best because there's just ... so much.

Thanks very much aesurias (talk) 03:41, 8 December 2025 (UTC)

@Aesurias: Hi, WP:REPORTPAID suggests reporting suspected UPE at either WP:ANI or WP:COIN if there is no private information to be revealed. The former is more active, so I suspect that posting there would grab someone's attention quicker. plicit 03:53, 8 December 2025 (UTC)
You were right about ANI being quicker, he was immediately INDEF'd. Thanks for your help! aesurias (talk) 04:54, 8 December 2025 (UTC)

Jammu (Occupied by Pakistan)

Hi Explicit - thank you for closing Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jammu (Occupied by Pakistan) and deleting the article. The same user has restarted the same article at User:RYasmeen12/sandbox this time calling it "Jammu Division (Pakistan-administered)". Is it in order to just delete that? Or do we have to wait until they move it to article space? Many thanks. - Arjayay (talk) 13:06, 8 December 2025 (UTC)

@Arjayay: Hi, the content in the sandbox appears to be quite different from what was in the article, so the user may be making an effort to restructure the page rather than simply hosting the deleted content in their userspace. It does not qualify for speedy deletion as WP:CSD#G4 at this point. plicit 13:17, 8 December 2025 (UTC)
Thanks Explicit - I didn't keep a copy of the deleted article, so couldn't compare them - best wishes - 13:19, 8 December 2025 (UTC)

Request

Hello @Explicit:, you deleted the redirect List of Urdu-speaking people after my request at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2025 October 29#List of Urdu-speaking people reached a consensus on deleting the redirect. Can you also delete the redirect List of Urdu Speaking People for the same reasons I mentioned at the redirect discussion? talk) 14:04, 8 December 2025 (UTC)

Previous speedy deletion

Hi there! I noticed this while sifting through recent changed and thought I should bring it to your attention. On December 2, you speedy deleted the page Get up (Baby VOX Song). Since then, the same user has created two new identical pages, which they seemingly keep blanking and un-blanking. It seems, at the very least, one of the pages should be speedy deleted again, if not both. Thanks for taking a look. Warm regards, AlienvsEditor (talk) 12:10, 9 December 2025 (UTC)

@AlienvsEditor: Hi, thanks for the heads up. The author has reverted their blanking of the properly capitalized page, so I redirected the other to it as a duplicate. plicit 12:29, 9 December 2025 (UTC)
