Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Darts
![]() | Points of interest related to Darts on Wikipedia: Category – WikiProject – Alerts – Deletions – Cleanup – Stubs – Assessment – To-do |
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Darts. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Darts|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Darts. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

- Keep - seems to have been the best in America at his prime, and I've found some pretty strong sourcing corresponding with that. Longform piece about him in the Cincinnati Enquirer, same in The Indianapolis Star, slightly shorter but still decent piece in The Cincinnati Post. Also found this in The Independent, which focuses a lot on him, and this in the Herald Express and the Sports Argus which is a little more WP:ROUTINE but talks about him becoming a world championship finalist. This article from The Daily Mirror discusses some of his activities after the sport and describes how he was known as the "wild man of American darts" in the 1980s. With all this I'd be pretty confident that Payne was a notable figure during his time. ser! (chat to me - see my edits) 21:39, 1 December 2024 (UTC)

- Weak keep - there's some coverage that appears to indicate Stephenson is at least regionally notable, like this from the Newcastle Chronicle, and this in same, as well as coverage in Malvern Gazette of his business ventures outside of the sport, but it's nothing incredible. - Previous discussions have had low turnout, I‘ve pinged editors who have made made substantial edits to darts articles like Jeffrey Sparidaans, and users who have previously participated in deletion discussions. I do not have any prior knowledge or their opinions on the the status of Jeffrey Sparidaans' article, Martin doesn't seem to know who Spaaridaans is. JamesVilla44 (talk) 10:33, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- I've been keeping an eye on the deletion sorting page to try save some of the actual notable pages from deletion (and vote to delete the unnotable "he played in a tournament once" ones), and would advise anyone who's concerned about the low turnout to do similar. ser! - I should have included you in the notifications but I also think it should lay on @ItsKesha, the proposer of the deletion discussion, to make sure that editors are informed when a discussion is posted, to ensure that editors who have made substantial edits to darts articles, editors who have participated in previous discussions on in closely related darts articles to the likes of Jeffrey Sparidaans, editors known for expertise in the field of darts Wikipedia and
- editors who have asked to be kept informed of deletion discussions, are informed. JamesVilla44 (talk) 22:23, 26 November 2024 (UTC)

- Delete - lacks significant success in the sport. Google Books - 1 result, only a mention. Google Search - less than 80 results, not prominent. 12 results in Google News, the only one that went beyond a mention was:
The first one in 2008 was Rizal Barellano, who was eliminated in the preliminary round by Miloslac Navratil and of whom you never heard again ... Rizal Barellano, born 1965, reached 2006 the quarterfinals of the Asia Pacific Cup and was the first Philippine player invited to the PDC World Championship. It doesn't look he is still playing.
Still nothing much. starship.paint (talk / cont) 13:58, 24 November 2024 (UTC) - Delete. Fails WP:SPORTSBASIC. I could find no independent significant coverage. - Delete Took a look at Dutch-language sources to see if there's anything there. Certainly a decent amount of passing mentions and routine match result coverage in Dutch regional news and Dutch dart sources, but very little that would meaningfully contribute to WP:SIGCOV. Closest thing to significant coverage I can find is this article on dartfreakz.nl, which even combined with the mention in Chaplin's book mentioned above seems too sparse to me. - Delete per nom. He participated in some notable darts tournaments, but the article says he lost in the first round. A Google search reveals a Facebook page that says he died 5 years ago, but no other substantial coverage. Walsh90210 (talk) 22:38, 7 December 2024 (UTC)

Delete- there does not seem to be WP:SIGCOV. Only 4 Google News results and all are mentions. Less than 40 Google Books results, but all seem to be either false positives or mere mentions. starship.paint (talk / cont) 09:37, 26 November 2024 (UTC)- Given the comment below by Ser! I am withdrawing the bold vote at this point. starship.paint (talk / cont) 14:24, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- Keep - runner up twice in the world championship of darts and former English international. Per this article in The West Briton he seems to have had some notability for his time -
Writing in 1980, journalist Derek Brown wrote that Paul was "the fastest shot in the West", and added that Paul was also "noted for his sidewhiskers" and "his liking for a cigar".
Found further coverage in The West Briton, The Evening Post (admittedly not a huge article but worth noting he got coverage for winning the Marlboro Masters), a photo in The West Briton with some info on his notable achievements, the Daily Record writing about him becoming "a new England star they love to hate", with a followup later (and a further followup in the same paper about the disciplinary action he received) and a small article in the Daily Mirror (a national newspaper!) about him being dropped from the England team (and for that matter, the Daily Mirror covered him being called up in the first place). Interestingly, there's an ad in the West Briton from a company, with the sole tagline being that "England international Paul Gosling" used this company's darts - not quite sigcov, but background info on him being a notable figure in darts for his time. Of course, coverage of anyone involved in darts from this era is gonna be more sparse than expected but Gosling seems to genuinely have been notable during his era. ser! (chat to me - see my edits) 11:25, 26 November 2024 (UTC)- I concede that while I believe much of those are minor/not significant coverage, that the overall coverage is enough across multiple sources, and I therefore revoke my nomination if possible. All my warmest wishes, ItsKesha (talk) 15:08, 1 December 2024 (UTC)
