Wikipedia:Requests for page protection
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here. | ||
---|---|---|
Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection) After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:ProtectedPages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Current requests for increase in protection level
Place requests for protection increases at the BOTTOM of this section. If you cannot find your request, check the archive of requests or, failing that, the page history. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.
Reason: Persistent disruptive editing of a biography of a living person in relation to WP:ETHNICITY. A note was even added for editors to stop changing it, showing that this is a recurring issue. (One of the recent edits removed it and I've since added it back.) I believe that BLP semi-protection would be beneficial here. Bizarre BizarreTalk modern to me 21:36, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
Full protection: Edit-warring / content dispute. Left guide (talk) 22:46, 5 June 2025 (UTC)

- Todd Chrisley (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) – Temporary semi‑protection (1 month) – persistent IP vandalism since the high‑profile events of 27 May 2025 (pardon) and 4 Jun 2025 (TV‑series announcement). — Dahawk04 (talk) 23:42, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- Examples
- Unsourced claim about pardon terms
- Defamatory statement repeatedly re‑added after reversion
- Blanking of the cited sentencing section
- Per WP:SEMI.
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – IP-hopping promotional editors consistently add promotional, ungrammatical content to the article whenever it is unprotected. —Ganesha811 (talk) 00:40, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
- International recognition of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Reason: Page is being dog whistled on X as an example "woke ideology". Has over 800,000 views, as of this writing. Disruptive editing. GreenC 01:38, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
Declined – Content dispute. Please use the article's talk page or other forms of dispute resolution. Dispute involves autoconfirmed editors. Don't otherwise see a reason for protection. Consider AN/I if dispute resolution won't work. — rsjaffe 🗣️ 02:02, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
Reason: Infinite extended confirmed protection Arbitration enforcement, it about the Arab-Israeli conflict. ArtopiaBoy (talk) 02:10, 6 June 2025 (UTC)

Reason: Vandalism. Long semiprotection needed. Island92 (talk) 04:36, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – persistent vandalism . the Wikipedia article hatnote seems to funnel editors here as that page is extended protected; and all other hatnote links from Wikipedia article are protected in some way other then this one. thus most edits here are vandalism because of it. more unconstructive edits then constructive. Current requests for reduction in protection level
Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.
- To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
- Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
- Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
- If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.
Reason: In October 2017, this page about a beloved British TV presenter was made "EXTENDED CONFIRMED PROTECTION" due to aggressive sock puppetry. I would like to see this page down to semi-protection due to little vandalism over almost eight years. Frankster04 (talk) 21:29, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- That's circular reasoning. The fact that there is little vandalism simply means the protection is working as it should. Also, did you follow the instructions at the top of this page and ask the protecting administrator? ~Anachronist (talk) 22:35, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
Reason: This article about the UK boxer has been extended confirmed protection since a May 2018 spell of block evasion-induced vandalism. I’d like to see this page downgraded to semi-protection due to both little vandalism and his high profile (many high profile celebs' articles are semi-protected). Frankster04 (talk) 21:33, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- Please read the instructions at the top. You're supposed to ask the protecting administrator first, but I'll do it here. @Orangemike: what say you? ~Anachronist (talk) 22:34, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- For what it is worth, I think this is probably a good candidate to reduce to SP. Dennis Brown - 2¢ 00:23, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
Current requests for edits to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here
Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.
- Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among
{{Edit protected}}
,{{Edit template-protected}}
,{{Edit extended-protected}}
, or{{Edit semi-protected}}
to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed. - Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the
{{Edit COI}}
template should be used. - Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
- If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
- This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
