I have sent you a note about a page you started
[edit]Hi RevelationDirect. Thank you for your work on YMCA Building (San Diego). Another editor, Aszx5000, has reviewed it as part of new pages patrol and left the following comment:
Nicely constructed article - why are you not autopatrolled? thanks.
To reply, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Aszx5000}}. (Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.)
Aszx5000 (talk) 13:55, 16 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Aszx5000: I don't mind the scrutiny but would that save other editors time? If so, how do I apply to become autopatrolled? - RevelationDirect (talk) 14:55, 16 June 2024 (UTC)
- For editors who are definitely at the standard - and the articles you are creating at at that standard - it is far more efficient that they are autopatrolled, which you can ask for here (you will see I pointed User:Pdebee there yesterday for the same reasons).
- Also, you should think about WP:DYKNOM which is a very nice way of further validating new articles (you get 7 days to put your new article to DYK), which is another good validation of your editing :) best regards Aszx5000 (talk) 15:27, 16 June 2024 (UTC)
Autopatrolled granted
[edit]
Hi RevelationDirect, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the autopatrolled user right to your account. This means that pages you create will automatically be marked as 'reviewed', and no longer appear in the new pages feed. Autopatrolled is assigned to prolific creators of articles, where those articles do not require further review, and may have been requested on your behalf by someone else. It doesn't affect how you edit; it is used only to manage the workload of new page patrollers.
Since the articles you create will no longer be systematically reviewed by other editors, it is important that you maintain the high standard you have achieved so far in all your future creations. Please also try to remember to add relevant WikiProject templates, stub tags, categories, and incoming links to them, if you aren't already in the habit; user scripts such as Rater and StubSorter can help with this. As you have already shown that you have a strong grasp of Wikipedia's core content policies, you might also consider volunteering to become a new page patroller yourself, helping to uphold the project's standards and encourage other good faith article writers.
Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! Elli (talk | contribs) 13:24, 20 June 2024 (UTC)
DYK for YMCA Building (San Diego)
[edit]On 14 July 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article YMCA Building (San Diego), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the San Diego YMCA estimates that it has served more than 125 million military personnel? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/YMCA Building (San Diego). You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, YMCA Building (San Diego)), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Sugar industry
[edit]Is there any reason in particular why most sugar industry categories are at Sugar industry of Foo rather than Sugar industry in Foo? The latter would be more consistent with most other industry categories, e.g. those under Category:Automotive industry by country and Category:Petroleum industry by country. --Paul_012 (talk) 07:55, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
- Sure, while not all of the categories have a main article, without exception the ones that do use "of" including Sugar industry of India, Sugar industry of the United States, and Sugar industry of Cuba. If those main articles were renamed in an RM, I'd of course favor speedy renaming all the corresponding categories per WP:C2D. (Substantively, I have no preference for "of" versus "in" though.) - RevelationDirect (talk) 16:41, 2 November 2024 (UTC)

Hey there
[edit]Just wanted to send you a quick note of thanks for productively engaging in the discussion. I just wanted to pop by to apologize that I hadn't had the time to get back to you on my usertalk to your questions yet as I have had very little time in the past week-ish due to some life detours, but I'll try to see if I can come up with a starting point unless some other helpful editor comes along to help. - @Raladic: Understood, real life is important, and you have a lot on your plate. When I filed an ArbComm case, I found it much more time consuming and stressful in real life than I expected. (And mine wasn't even about an important topic area like yours, but a dispute stemming from CFD actually.)All the best! RevelationDirect (talk) 12:48, 1 July 2025 (UTC)

I think there are editors who work that queue but, if you're looking to speed things up, it might be more productive to reach out to Wikipedia talk:Noticeboard for India-related topics or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Cities to get help. - The most pressing issue would be to find some reliable secondary sources to confirm notability. I was honestly not able to find any in English on Google or the Wikipedia Library, but maybe the name is translated differently. If you have access to Serbian language sources or are able to translate articles from Serbian Wikipedia, that might be a potential avenue. (Do note that different language Wikipedia have different standards so any citations would need to be verified and checked to ensure it meets the expectations of this Wikipedia.)Sorry I wasn't of more help! Silent radio stations discussion
[edit]Hi, thank you for opening the discussion about the reverts related to the silent radio stations CfD (I was still pondering where the best place to bring this up would be)! Just a small point: You wrote in your initial post that I carried out that decision by moving 6 stations to defunct categories including [names of six stations]
even though I moved 23 stations, but maybe that detail is not important enough to be worth editing the post. Felida97 (talk) 16:37, 1 September 2025 (UTC)
- Whenever I summarize an issue, I'm always afraid I'll goof up and unintentionally mischaracterize it. This is minor but I updated it anyway. Thanks! RevelationDirect (talk) 17:14, 1 September 2025 (UTC)
- No worries, thanks! Unfortunately, I think I confused you by mentioning the total number of stations in the category at the time the discussion was closed (24) in my reply (I did only move 23 stations to defunct categories because one station went back on the air during the discussion, so that number wasn't a typo). College sports
[edit]There are so many small college sports related categories it is very frustrating. Especially since someone has decided to attack me for making so many different nominations. I have tried to nominate multiple categories when they relate, but with each specific category having its own set of parents, and with some cases involving multiple layered nomination targets this does not seem to be a fair complain. This is especially so because there are many categories that are large enough to be reasonable kept, but there are so many hundreds of one articles categories. There is no way to make one large nomination for everything.John Pack Lambert (talk) 18:18, 4 December 2025 (UTC)
- A few things:
- It's not your fault there are so many narrow college sports cats. If you nominate them and the consensus is to merge, then they'll go away; if both of those things don't happen, they'll stay. But I wouldn't ever internalize a problem that you didn't create.
- It's always been a challenge in CFD to create nominations that are neither too large (WP:TRAINWRECK) versus so small so as to seem selective. As you said, there's no way here to do one omnibus nomination.
- I didn't find the vandalism comment to be constructive (or accurate). Tactically it might be best for you to not reply further on that nomination.
- As always, take my comments if they're helpful and disregard them if not. RevelationDirect (talk) 00:37, 5 December 2025 (UTC)

Thankyou for the comment
[edit]Thankyou for the comment. It is very disturbing that people think they are justified in engaging in personal attacks on me because I made nominations. It is especially disturbing that people accuse me of making small nominations. Almost all of my nominations have been multiple articles. I have tried to either group them by team or by sport in a state. In the case of the wrestling coaches I made two nominations that covered almost all the contents. At some level this seems very unfair. People are able to create categories without any explanation that they but more than one article in it, and then able to do this almost to no limit. Even if we have less than 100 coaches or players in a sport where there are more than 1000 college teams. It is much easier to create a category than to remove it. Then when someone nominates a category for upmerge, going through the formal process, they are accused of "vandalism". When I ask someone to stop being uncivil they taunt me about taking it to ANI, knowing full well that ANI is a forum that believes in punishing the victim. Wikipedia is full of rude and unkind behavior because we protect those who engage in it by punishing those who report it, or in some cases punishing victims who have it reported on them, even if they were not the person who filed the report. It is very frustrating. What is the point of having a guideline like narrow category at all if editors can just ignore it and force their will without any actual explanation of it. I specically identify cases where we have a players cat buried under even 2 empty cats in a row, but someone they expect me to bundle more and more. The argument to force bundling just feels like a proceduralist attempt to force the acceptance of truly massive in number of categories but very insubstantial in actual contents category schemes as a fait accompli by making it so it is not actually reasonably possible to create a review of the categories at all. It also feels like advocates of sports coverage believe any level of rudeness is acceptable in the interest of preserving sports coverage, and that anyone who questions it should be open to personal and invective attacks.John Pack Lambert (talk) 18:20, 12 December 2025 (UTC)
- Specifically anyone who says "assuming good faith has its limits" is basically saying "it is ok if I am rude and cruel to people who make nominations I dislike". We really should have better enforcement mechanisms against people who fail to assume good faith. I am tired of being insulted and editors saying my contribution to the project is a net negative. It is very, very, very rude and disrespectful. Wikipedia is supposed to be a place where people are kind and civil to eachother not rude and disrespectful.John Pack Lambert (talk) 18:26, 12 December 2025 (UTC)
- The most frustrating things are a user claimed that my nominations of articles for merging constituted "vandalism". This is a very specific term on Wikipedia and using it flippantly to attack people who are trying to go through formal processes is very rude. The same user also attacked me for even brining up the fact that 1 article categories make it harder to remove BLP issues. I have been attacked so much for removing lone articles that clearly did not fit in the category in question that I know any attempt by me to do so would result in people opening an ANI against me and trying to deny my editing provalages. More imporantly we should not set up systems that call for us to regularly ignore all rules to enforce other rules. If we are serious about avoiding BLP violations in categories, we should make sure that any category at least that has the potential to include living people is large enough that the whole category being a case of BLP violations is unlikely. Which is at least 5 articles in size. I am sorry if I said too much, it is very frustrating to be accused of "vandalism" when you are trying to follow the procedure to nominat categories for merger, which requires making edits on both the category page and the CfD page, edits that can be messed up by missing just one :.John Pack Lambert (talk) 18:46, 12 December 2025 (UTC)
- @Johnpacklambert: You're welcome.
- Sorry you're encountering this on your return. I'll do what I can to encourage civility and AGF, both for it's own sake and to make CFD more pleasant and effective.
- Other editors do sincerely disagree with us on these nominations though. I'm heartened about the possibility of proposed revisions to WP:NARROWCAT. While I probably would not favor such proposals, that avenue seems like a good way to de-personalize the dispute.
- You might consider pausing your narrowcat nominations for a week so you can see how the open ones get closed. That would give you a better sense of which future noms are worth your time because they're likely to pass and also might lower the temperature. (To be clear though, you weren't the one who raised the temperature to start with.) Up to you.
- All the best! RevelationDirect (talk) 22:20, 12 December 2025 (UTC)
- I will consider this. It often feels some editors fail to consider the context of some articles. For example some categories like Category:Toledo Rockets coaches end up having multiple 1 article sub-cats with the same article. This does not seem reasonable. I have to wonder if a coach who mainly coached one sport, and then did a bunch of others briefly for the same institution is actually defined by coaching all those sports. Although I have a sense some editors feel if we can find a mention of something anywhere it is defining. I think there is a little more to it than that.John Pack Lambert (talk) 11:38, 13 December 2025 (UTC)
- Comment For what it is worth some of these nominations have been open over 2 weeks. For no good reason in some cases since some have 3 editors supporting them and still no Oppose. Also on one hand some editors claim some of these should be bundled. Yet my cross country nomination is being opposed on the grounds that it is too big. It feels like no matter what you do you get attacked.John Pack Lambert (talk) 23:39, 13 December 2025 (UTC)
- Yet some of my early ones, such as the wrestling coach one for teams starting with the letter A, were enacted. That one I even waited until it was carried out to do a second nomination. It also in many ways feels like people are acting as if the small category guidelines still exist and pretending we still have the rule about established category schemes and in a few cases people seem to allude to potential for growth. It was my understanding that the narrow category rules removed both of those reasons to keep overly small categories. I do have to wonder why we have guidelines on categories at all if editors basically just ignore them at CfD.John Pack Lambert (talk) 23:49, 13 December 2025 (UTC)
- I find it extremely disheartening that someone threatened to take me to ANI because I did not remove an article from a category that I had explicitly supported deleting the category. I am not the one who placed the article in the category. Threatening ANI over such was extremely rude. The whole attitude on Wikipedia that it is OK to make personal attacks on people you disagree with is discouraging.John Pack Lambert (talk) 01:52, 14 December 2025 (UTC)2
- I think one of the underlying problems is that at times the success of nominations outcomes is used to judge if you should be allowed to participate in the process. This should not be. Process participation should not be conditioned on having ideas that are opposed.John Pack Lambert (talk) 01:53, 14 December 2025 (UTC)
