Question from Prashantk1997* on Yota Tsuji (05:11, 2 October 2025)

The Center for Independent Documentary (CID) | John Titor ...John Titor was the pseudonym of a poster on internet forums in 2000 and 2001 who claimed to be a time traveler from the year 2036. Titor predicted a future involving a global nuclear war in 2015 that would lead to the collapse of the U.S. into five regions, but also spoke of the need to retrieve an IBM 5100 computer from 1975 to fix errors in his own time. While Titor's story generated curiosity and inspired various media, many of his specific predictions, such as a civil war in 2004, did not come true, and journalists later suggested his identity was a hoax, possibly created by Florida entertainment lawyer Larry Haber and his brother, according to a 2009 article in The Daily Telegraph. Key Aspects of the John Titor Story Origin: Titor appeared online in November 2000, using the username "TimeTravel_0". Time Machine: He described his time machine as being built around a GE Gravity Distortion Unit with two micro singularities, housed in a classic car. The Mission: Titor claimed his mission was to travel from 2036 to 1975 to retrieve an IBM 5100 computer. Predicted Future: He described a bleak future with a global nuclear war, a broken-up United States, and a shift to small, family-centered communities. Contradictory Predictions: Some of Titor's predictions proved inaccurate, such as the immediate start of a civil war in 2004, which did not happen. The Reality of John Titor Hoax Theory: Many believe Titor was a fictional creation. In 2009, The Daily Telegraph reported that Titor was likely the work of Larry Haber, a Florida entertainment lawyer, and his brother, a computer scientist. Inspiration: Despite the likely fabrication, Titor's story sparked significant interest and speculation, leading to books, music, and documentaries about the phenomenon. Legacy: The John Titor story remains a notable piece of internet lore, highlighting the public fascination with time travel and speculative futures. --Prashantk1997* (talk) 05:11, 2 October 2025 (UTC)

Question from Siamese2003 (00:05, 7 October 2025)

Hello, I'm new here. Could you give me editing tips, especially when it comes to references? --Siamese2003 (talk) 00:05, 7 October 2025 (UTC)

Hi and Welcome! For referencing, I would recommened the visual editor feature as you just have to insert the link after clicking the cite buttom. WP:Secondary sources shows the list of sources that are highly recommended in articles, especially if you are dealing with biographies. Help:How to cite is another useful page. Arbitration

  • After a motion, arbitration enforcement page protections no longer need to be logged in the AELOG. A bot now automatically posts protections at WP:AELOG/P. To facilitate this bot, protection summaries must include a link to the relevant CT page (e.g. [[WP:CT/BLP]]), and you will receive talk page reminders if you forget to specify the contentious topic but otherwise indicate it is an AE action.

Question from Luseafah (08:09, 7 October 2025)

Can you move my wiki to the main page? --Luseafah (talk) 08:09, 7 October 2025 (UTC)

I think you draft in your sandbox, if that's what you mean needs more work. Please clarify what you mean to help you better. Plutus 💬 mess Fortune favors the curious 12:10, 7 October 2025 (UTC)
Can you check if the article is valid? Can you also move it to (article) for me? - Hopefully you are not a robot but, a human. Luseafah (talk) 15:21, 9 October 2025 (UTC)
I am a human, like you. As for the draft, I think it needs more work. First of all, I think you need to follow Wp:Page layout and the strings of text at the top should be in a template, called infobox. Next major issue, if the lack of references. Please read wp:Citing, and the sources you find need to be wp:Secondary sources. It also needs to meet wp:GNG. Hence you are done, I had added a template, and you just need to submit the draft for review and someone will take a look. Plutus 💬 mess Fortune favors the curious 23:36, 9 October 2025 (UTC)

"Nightmare" comment

Dear Plutus - I wonder if you can help me in what appears to be a most peculiar situation. An editor called 0xReflektor has nominated my article about "Bill Fairclough" for deletion. The only apparent reason given is that it is "a nightmare". I thought editors had to act in a respectful and mature manner on Wikipedia. Anyway, I and my colleagues have spent many elapsed days working on carefully producing this complex article (along with others awaiting finalization prior to release) in conformity with Wikipedia standards etc. We find 0xReflektor's criticism most odd.

What is even more peculiar is that earlier today I thought the article may have been vandalized or sabotaged and spent hours retrieving it. I am not implying 0xReflektor vandalized or sabotaged anything; indeed, given my lack of experience in editing on Wikipedia, in all probability it may well have been caused by me.

The relevant reports, comments etc are at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bill Fairclough (2nd nomination) where I tried to explain anything relevant and asked 0xReflektor to explain his/her brusque comment. I do not understand why this is happening. I don't understand the comment "2nd nomination" as there only appears to be one editor, 0xReflektor, involved. Any insight you may have into what is going on and any advice as to what I might do to remedy the situation would be greatly appreciated. Best wishes SapientiaLudens SapientiaLudens (talk) 13:39, 14 October 2025 (UTC)

Dear Plutus - Further to my original message above I have found the second and other nominations and responded as best I can. Question from Leo-J-Lutz (15:35, 30 October 2025)

Hi Plutus. I work for Betterguards Technology (US) and Betterguards Technology GmbH (Europe). We develop and produce ankle braces with our patented technology. It's an adaptive piston that activates when needed. It was developed in Germany and is produced in our own production facilities in Berlin and Croatia. In 2022, Betterguards was selected by NBA Launchpad to work alongside league and team officials focusing on innovation in the prevention and rehabilitation of ankle injuries. I understand that is difficult for me to write an entry as I have conflict of interest. How do I best proceed? Thank you!! Here are some references: https://www.entrepreneur.com/growing-a-business/how-betterguards-is-changing-the-injury-prevention-game/491941#:~:text=Despite%20billions%20spent%20on%20sports,science%20%E2%80%94%20and%20athletes%20%E2%80%94%20first.https://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/Articles/2025/07/23/betterguards-partners-with-nba-trainers-releases-new-version-of-ankle-brace/ https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9983046/ --Leo-J-Lutz (talk) 15:35, 30 October 2025 (UTC)

I suggest looking for better wikipedia:Secondary sources as they will help to strengthen the notability of the article. Then create a draft using the Wikipedia:Article wizard and make sure to state your coi. Once you are done with that let me know! Plutus 💬 mess Fortune favors the curious 02:44, 31 October 2025 (UTC)

I’ve been editing a page that’s been repeatedly vandalized. How do I contact somebody about editlocking a certain page? Someone keeps doing this. --KelpSandwich (talk) 01:53, 31 October 2025 (UTC)

You can use WP:RFP for page protection requests. However, I suggest you work your issues out with the editor themselves first. Plutus 💬 mess Fortune favors the curious 02:45, 31 October 2025 (UTC)

Guide to temporary accounts

Hello, Plutus. This message is being sent to remind you of significant upcoming changes regarding logged-out editing.

Starting 4 November, logged-out editors will no longer have their IP address publicly displayed. Instead, they will have a temporary account (TA) associated with their edits. Users with some extended rights like administrators and CheckUsers, as well as users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will still be able to reveal temporary users' IP addresses and all contributions made by temporary accounts from a specific IP address or range.

How do temporary accounts work?

Editing from a temporary account
  • When a logged-out user completes an edit or a logged action for the first time, a cookie will be set in this user's browser and a temporary account tied with this cookie will be automatically created for them. This account's name will follow the pattern: ~2025-12345-67 (a tilde, year of creation, a number split into units of 5).
  • All subsequent actions by the temporary account user will be attributed to this username. The cookie will expire 90 days after its creation. As long as it exists, all edits made from this device will be attributed to this temporary account. It will be the same account even if the IP address changes, unless the user clears their cookies or uses a different device or web browser.
  • A record of the IP address used at the time of each edit will be stored for 90 days after the edit. Users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will be able to see the underlying IP addresses.
  • As a measure against vandalism, there are two limitations on the creation of temporary accounts:
    • There has to be a minimum of 10 minutes between subsequent temporary account creations from the same IP (or /64 range in case of IPv6).
    • There can be a maximum of 6 temporary accounts created from an IP (or /64 range) within a period of 24 hours.

Temporary account IP viewer user right

How to enable IP Reveal

Impact for administrators

  • It will be possible to block many abusers by just blocking their temporary accounts. A blocked person won't be able to create new temporary accounts quickly if the admin selects the autoblock option.
  • It will still be possible to block an IP address or IP range.
  • Temporary accounts will not be retroactively applied to contributions made before the deployment. On Special:Contributions, you will be able to see existing IP user contributions, but not new contributions made by temporary accounts on that IP address. Instead, you should use Special:IPContributions for this (see a video about IPContributions in a gallery below).

Rules about IP information disclosure

  • Publicizing an IP address gained through TAIV access is generally not allowed (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 previously edited as 192.0.2.1 or ~2025-12345-67's IP address is 192.0.2.1).
  • Publicly linking a TA to another TA is allowed if "reasonably believed to be necessary". (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 and ~2025-12345-68 are likely the same person, so I am counting their reverts together toward 3RR, but not Hey ~2025-12345-68, you did some good editing as ~2025-12345-67)
  • See Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer § What can and can't be said for more detailed guidelines.

Useful tools for patrollers

  • It is possible to view if a user has opted-in to view temporary account IPs via the User Info card, available in Preferences → Appearance → Advanced options → Tick Enable the user info card
    • This feature also makes it possible for anyone to see the approximate count of temporary accounts active on the same IP address range.
  • Special:IPContributions allows viewing all edits and temporary accounts connected to a specific IP address or IP range.
  • Similarly, Special:GlobalContributions supports global search for a given temporary account's activity.
  • The auto-reveal feature (see video below) allows users with the right permissions to automatically reveal all IP addresses for a limited time window.
