- Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
- Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
- In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
- Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
- Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like
<ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>, copy the whole thing). - In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
- If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:
==References==

Earliest Emoji
[edit]Thanks for adding my discoveries of the new earliest emoji, as reported by Emojipedia, to the page. I made a minor edit to clarify that Emojipedia did not uncover any of the three sets mentioned. Also, I've made yet another emoji discovery, this time from 1985. I'm waiting to receive some physical items and then we can do the dance all over again. Cheers! —Flicky1984 (talk) 04:38, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
- No problem! Congrats on your new findings!
- I do think that before the 1985 ones are added we should wait for Emojipedia to cover it, as since emoji definitions are fuzzy a secondary source would probably be needed to clear things up and make it more official.
- Have a nice day! ☺️ ✨ΩmegaMantis✨blather 18:33, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
- Of course! There's no need to rush it as almost 40 years have passed already. I'll try to put together a list of published references: books, magazines, manuals, brochures, to cover all of these discoveries. That seems more thorough than a reblog of my blog. —Flicky1984 (talk) 00:05, 24 May 2024 (UTC)

Introduction to contentious topics
[edit]You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practices;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Additionally, you must be logged in, have 500 edits, and have an account age of 30 days, and you are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on any page within this topic.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Contentious topics
[edit]Hi OmegaMantis! I noticed your contributions and wanted to welcome you to the Wikipedia community. I hope you like it here and decide to stay.
The rule that affects you most as a new or IP editor is the prohibition on making any edit related to the Arab–Israel conflict, which includes discussing articles on talk pages, unless you are logged into an account that is at least 30 days old and has made at least 500 edits.
This prohibition is broadly construed, so it includes edits such as adding the reaction of a public figure concerning the conflict to their article or noting the position of a company or organization as it relates to the conflict.
The exception to this rule is that you may request a specific change to an article on the talk page of that article or at this page. Please ensure that your requested edit complies with our neutral point of view and reliable sourcing policies, and if the edit is about a living person our policies on biographies of living people as well.
Any edits you make contrary to these rules are likely to be reverted, and repeated violations can lead to you being blocked from editing.As you get started, you may find this short tutorial helpful:

Help me!
[edit]| This help request has been answered. If you need more help, you can , contact the responding user(s) directly on their user talk page, or consider visiting the Teahouse. |
I tried to propose an alternate name change for the Palestinian genocide accusations article in the thread about changing the name to Palestinian genocide, but as I have not had 500 edits, I cannot edit the talk page of Arab-Israel conflict-related articles unless it is an edit request. I am wondering if I can make an edit request on the Palestinian genocide accusations article to propose such different name, or if that doesn't work because it is related to an existing thread. ✨ΩmegaMantis✨blather 03:18, 24 October 2025 (UTC)
- Yes - however, since there is already a page move request open - further requests are usually not entertained for another 6 months. But you are welcome to propose it. But make sure - there are strong arguments based on wiki policies that are not already covered in the discussions. Cinaroot (talk) 07:54, 24 October 2025 (UTC)
ArbCom 2025 Elections voter message
[edit]Hello! Voting in the 2025 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 1 December 2025. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2025 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:00, 18 November 2025 (UTC)
They can
[edit]Obviously. AC status means creating any user page. Though it would be tiring to request users constantly to create pages that are just going to get swept up in a few days when the IP changes. ~2025-34140-84 (talk) 01:50, 22 November 2025 (UTC)
Please do not "infer"
[edit]I did not want my userpage deleted. Please do not do things without explicit permission. That is the culture here on Wikipedia. Inferring can be pretty negative (just take one look at artifical intelligence). ~2025-34140-84 (talk) 02:12, 22 November 2025 (UTC)
- Also thats not how you nominate a WP page for MFD. ~2025-34140-84 (talk) 02:13, 22 November 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, sorry about that. Again, very trouty moment. I also did realize I did not nominate the page in the right way, and was relieved that you reverted my edit.
- However, would you still consider nominating your user page for deletion? There is no consensus on the Village Pump yet that temp accounts should have userpages, and in the meantime it would make sense to keep the status quo. ✨ΩmegaMantis✨blather 02:15, 22 November 2025 (UTC)
- Its fine, mistakes happen a lot. But, if my knowledge is correct, which it might not, temp accounts, once discarded, when anyone else with the same IP logs in they get a new account. Regardless most people are not editing Wikipedia pages despite wikipedia's popularity, so its likely the user page gets deleted without much of a fuss. My IP doesnt get changed for longer, around 1 to 3 weeks before change so a userpage might be better. ~2025-34140-84 (talk) 02:18, 22 November 2025 (UTC)
- I accidentally nominated it myself, actually. I think in the meantime lets delete it -- I started this experiment and I can end it. If you want a userpage of your own, why not create an honest-to-goodness account? ✨ΩmegaMantis✨blather 02:19, 22 November 2025 (UTC)
- Just keep it up for a little bit please

Congratulations, and thank you for helping expand the scope of Wikipedia! We hope you will continue making quality contributions.
