DYK for Unexpected Destinations

On 21 January 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Unexpected Destinations, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the first biography of the first Japanese woman to earn a college degree was written by her great-granddaughter, who also studied abroad in the U.S.? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Unexpected Destinations. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Unexpected Destinations), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

DYK for A Sentimental Journey Through France and Italy

On 23 January 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article A Sentimental Journey Through France and Italy, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that one 18th-century reader was so offended by some chapters of Laurence Sterne's 1768 novel A Sentimental Journey Through France and Italy (scene pictured) that they glued the pages shut? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/A Sentimental Journey Through France and Italy. Question from Adrikshit (06:37, 5 February 2025)

Hello, A guy is kept changing sources and relevant information from the page.i have reported several times but he kept changing and i am tired of telling him but he wants to spread his propaganda and dont even add proper source. I have talked to admin and they dont care. --Adrikshit (talk) 06:37, 5 February 2025 (UTC)

It looks like one of the people you were in a content dispute with has been blocked, actually. It also looks like you are not explaining your edits (cordially!) on the talk page when you encounter disagreement: that is an important first step in reaching a consensus for what an article should say. Just writing comments back and forth in edit summaries is not enough, you need to write on the Talk page with an explanation of what you think needs changing and why your sources support that change. You should try to find a compromise wording that everybody can accept.
I suggest reading the article on dispute resolution to learn how Wikipedia tries to resolve disagreements about articles. If the Talk page conversation doesn't lead to an agreement, the next steps are to try asking more people to weigh in. If you're disagreeing about sources, try WP:RSN. Otherwise, try WP:3O or WP:DRN. Those options are explained in more detail at the dispute resolution page which, again, I urge you to read. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 08:08, 5 February 2025 (UTC)
Oh, you should maybe also take a look at WP:Civility -- one principle of cooperation on Wikipedia is that being right is not enough, you have to maintain a collegial tone and assume good faith even if you are right and the other person is wrong. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 08:11, 5 February 2025 (UTC)

Question from CeleniaSig (12:24, 8 January 2025)

Hi, I was looking through the Vulpes page when i noticed an extinct species called "Vulpes Gigas". I wanted to find more information about it, but after at least an hour of searching i can't find any proof that it actually existed. I don't question it existing, as it's referenced in other websites, but I can't find a solid source for it. What should I do? --CeleniaSig (talk) 12:24, 8 January 2025 (UTC)

Hello CeleniaSig, and thanks for raising this topic. I... actually do now question the existence of Vulpes gigas? I get zero hits on Google Scholar, which is pretty unusual for something that's real! And the websites seem like they could have just gotten their information from Wikipedia, in an example of WP:Citogenesis. I notice that it's only mentioned in list of 'fossil species' on the main Vulpes article, where there isn't a single citation to support that it's real.
Since there is no citation, you can delete Vulpes gigas from the list with an edit summary like "removing unsourced material that I can't reliably verify elsewhere." If someone else with more expertise is able to find a reliable source with more information, they can add it back in with a citation. (And then you can read their cited source to learn more!) You could also mention on the article's talk page that you are doing this, to encourage other editors with more expertise on the topic to weigh in.
Thanks for your eagle eye here, and let me know if you have any future questions! ~ L 🌸 (talk) 22:57, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
Just seeing this now, thanks for the support! CeleniaSig (talk) 03:45, 10 February 2025 (UTC)

Question from XZY5 (21:54, 12 January 2025)

Hello! Hope you are well. I'm currently watching the English and Bangla pages for Kazi Nzarul Islam and have noticed several points of information present in the Bangla page missing from the English page. Is there any protocol I should be following to make the English page mirror the Bangla page more so they match? --XZY5 (talk) 21:54, 12 January 2025 (UTC)

Hello XZY5, and welcome to Wikipedia! Translation is very valuable, so I am glad to hear you are interested in assisting here. I don't do this much myself, but I think this help page will give some useful guidance. The main ideas, as far as I know, are, 1, each wikipedia has its own policies and anything added to the English wikipedia must follow English wikipedia's policies; and, 2, translations need to be properly attributed. You can also ask at the Teahouse to get advice from a wider pool of editors. Good luck, and happy editing! ~ L 🌸 (talk) 02:50, 13 January 2025 (UTC)
Thank you for your reply! You mentioned that translations need to be attributed, I'm a native Bangla speaker and can translate to English. Is that ok or is there is a way to appropriately cite that when making the translations? XZY5 (talk) 18:22, 8 February 2025 (UTC)

Hello Raskesh WikiEditor and welcome to Wikipedia! Question from Omnighpotent (18:08, 22 February 2025)

Hi LEvalyn,

I've created this account today since I saw an opportunity to contribute to a page on the site. I've edited some pages before but that was 10 years ago.

My question is regarding a conflict of interest in the edit I want to make since I am a co-author of the paper I want to use a model from. Is there a protocol to ensure unbiased information, like a review process?

Best, --Omnighpotent (talk) 18:08, 22 February 2025 (UTC)

Hello Omnighpotent, welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for being so conscientious. Our guidelines around editing with a conflict of interest are explained at WP:SIMPLECOI. In general, we ask editors with a conflict of interest to use an “edit request” on the Talk page of an article, so an uninvolved editor can evaluate and actually make the change. There is a helpful wizard for edit requests at WP:ERW. In this case, feel free to “ping” me by including {{u|LEvalyn}} in your edit request and I’ll take a look. Thank you! ~ L 🌸 (talk) 22:35, 22 February 2025 (UTC)
Hi again,
Thank you, I've taken a look at the CoI guidelines. I also went to the talk page of the article I want to improve, and it seemed that a co-author of mine, Spaniol, had already beat me to it, but had it rejected. I talked to him about it privately just now and he said that he had edited the article originally not realising the COI, and thus had the edit rejected.
Our paper, in essence, just defines greenwashing based on the number of definitions found in existing literature and compiles them into a flowchart which makes it easy to understand what needs to occur for something to qualify as greenwashing.
I must apologise for my fellow coauthor's negligence regarding the COI.
I don't think I should make a new topic on the talk page when he already proposed very similar changes.
Sorry about the confusion. If you still want to take a look, you can find it here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Greenwashing#c-MrOllie-20250222141000-MatthewSpaniol-20250222124600
Best regards,
Martin Nielsen Omnighpotent (talk) 17:55, 23 February 2025 (UTC)
Thanks for providing this additional information, and again thank you for your conscientiousness. I think the proposed flowchart image would be too attention-grabbing in the context of the article, but a prose summary of your article's main points would be a very helpful addition to the "Characteristics" section. Something along the lines of:
"A concept analysis by Spaniol et al. describes several related activities that are not, strictly speaking, greenwashing. For example, if a claim is not part of marketing a product or service toward consumers, it might be better described as..." [and then highlight a few key ones]
If you can write a brief summary like that (importantly, one which does not infringe on the copyrighted phrasing of your publications!) I would be glad to look at it for addition to the article. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 22:36, 24 February 2025 (UTC)

WikiCup 2025 March newsletter

The first round of the 2025 WikiCup ended on 26 February. As a reminder, we are no longer disqualifying the lowest-scoring contestants; everyone who competed in round 1 will advance to round 2 unless they have withdrawn or been banned from Wikipedia. Instead, the contestants with the highest round-point totals now receive tournament points at the end of each round. Unlike the round points in the main WikiCup table, which are reset at the end of each round, tournament points are carried over between rounds and can only be earned if a competitor is among the top 16 round-point scorers. This table shows all competitors who have received tournament points so far.

Round 1 was very competitive compared with previous years; two contestants scored more than 1,000 round points, and the top 16 contestants all scored more than 500 round points. The following competitors scored more than 800 round points:

The full scores for round 1 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 18 featured articles, 26 featured lists, 1 featured-topic article, 197 good articles, 38 good-topic articles and more than 100 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 23 In the News articles, and they have conducted nearly 550 reviews.

Remember that any content promoted after 26 February but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2, which begins on 1 March. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Question from Nakua13 (15:48, 28 February 2025)

How do I edit a citation if it was cited wrongly? --Nakua13 (talk) 15:48, 28 February 2025 (UTC)

There are quite a lot of ways to edit citations in a wiki article. If the whole citation is wrong you can just delete the old one and use the “cite” button to add a new one. If only some of the information is missing or wrong, you can edit the existing cite. If you’re using the visual editor (which works like a Word or Google doc), try double-clicking on the citation to open up the editing panel for it. If you’re still having trouble, I suggest asking at the Teahouse where there are lots of people who can help with a faster response; I’m unfortunately ill this week and slower to answer. Good luck, and happy editing! ~ L 🌸 (talk) 21:10, 1 March 2025 (UTC)

Cher FAC

Hey LEValyn, I really appreciated your source review back in January on Cher's FAC page. I wanted to check if you might have time to expand your review to cover additional FAC criteria beyond sources. Right now, we have three supports, including yours, which meets the minimum for promotion. However, the nomination is at risk of archival because only two of those supports are considered "comprehensive". Your input would be incredibly valuable—not just for the process, but for improving the article even further. Thanks so much for your time! Cherfc (talk) 22:38, 28 February 2025 (UTC)

In principle I am game but I’m afraid I’m currently ill and not up to an intensive editing task! I hope you’re able to garner more eyes, it’s a great article! ~ L 🌸 (talk) 21:06, 1 March 2025 (UTC)
Thank you! Your willingness to take another look means a lot, and I hope you feel better soon. Any feedback when you're up to it will be greatly appreciated, whether it's a full review or observations that help improve the article. Cherfc (talk) 01:11, 2 March 2025 (UTC)

Your draft article, Draft:History (genre)

Hello, LEvalyn. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or draft page you started, "History".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia! DreamRimmer bot II (talk) 00:54, 1 March 2025 (UTC)

Alternatively, an administrator will spot this watchlist notice, undelete the draft without you having to ask, and attempt to convince you to expand this for DYK points in the wikicup. How about it? -- asilvering (talk) 03:03, 1 March 2025 (UTC)

Can I edit a draft that was declined?

I was browsing your talk page and came across the Draft:Waypoint_Entertainment article that was declined. Reading through show it can be notable, and was thinking i could take it on as a learning project to make the improvements needed. Is that allowed? Jokmokkan (talk) 08:36, 2 March 2025 (UTC)

Yes, it’s both allowed and very helpful! In this case, I’d advise you to spend a good bit of time on research before you get into the writing, and really focus on finding sources that fit the criteria at WP:NCORP. As a warning, two common kinds of sources that don’t “count” for NCORP are press releases, and interviews with company members. (It’s ok if someone from the company is quoted in an article, but it has to be an article where the journalist has also done independent research.) If you’d like advice on the sources you’re finding, feel free to ask me. Good luck and happy editing! ~ L 🌸 (talk) 18:15, 2 March 2025 (UTC)
Thank you for the advice. I'll definitely get in touch should I need more direction. Jokmokkan (talk) 06:24, 3 March 2025 (UTC)

Re: thanks

Thanks for the thanks (re: Template:Did you know nominations/Series fiction). I am surprised how many notable concepts are missing. Sometimes I just have the time and will to just stub stuff, which occasionally leads to minor issues (ex. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Literary work). But anyway, I've been getting more interested in literary studies recently, and in this field I find there's a ton of stuff that's missing. Some of it arguably pretty major (like series fiction, or literary work, or children's book illustration, or still-just-a-stub children's and young adult literature). Or in my field of sociology (ex. I just created sports fandom few days ago). Or in general history (I recently created a bunch of stuff on prisoners of war in World War II and subarticles. Or in games (game board). What I am getting at is that there's still a ton of what I, at least, consider "surprising gaps" in our knowledge. Here's a random fun topic from my to do list (no idea when I'll get to it): animal armor (military, not Armour (zoology)). And you'd think the military fanboys covered all such stuff long ago... Hello,

I’m very interested in drugs and want to eventually create my own article about Desmethylfluoxetine and dehydroaripiprazolam. But first l have to get enough experience to be able to do that. I was wondering the fastest way to do that and what I should pay attention to while editing.

Thank you, Firefighter241 --Firefighter241 (talk) 11:48, 4 March 2025 (UTC)

Hi Nuclear8563, and welcome to Wikipedia! I left a message on your Talk page with some general getting-started links. For your specific idea, one thing you'll want to do is get really familiar with the requirements at WP:MEDRS, which dictates the kinds of sources Wikipedia allows for medical topics. You could try improving some existing articles by looking at Wikipedia:WikiProject Pharmacology, which has a few different ways to find articles in need of cleanup or improvement.
Another thing that might help would be reviewing articles on drugs that have been nominated as Good Articles. That can be a complicated process, but evaluating articles through the Good Article process would certainly familiarize you with all the important traits of wiki writing. There are instructions here for how to do a Good Article review. If you want to give it a try, I'd be happy to double-check your first few reviews. If you have any questions as you're working, feel free to ask me or (for a speedier response) the many helpful editors at the Teahouse forum. Happy editing! ~ L 🌸 (talk) 22:53, 5 March 2025 (UTC)

Question from Nuclear8563 (08:14, 5 March 2025)

Hey there. Any guides for new people who want to help contribute to editing? --Nuclear8563 (talk) 08:14, 5 March 2025 (UTC)

Hi Nuclear8563, and welcome to Wikipedia! I left a message on your Talk page with some helpful getting-started links. My own go-to tip is to find a really good book or a magazine article about something you're interested in, and use it to add information to articles on Wikipedia. Another good introductory task is to check out Category:Wikipedia introduction cleanup. You don't (or shouldn't) need to do any research to fix these articles - most of them are here because they are tagged with "lead too short". Find one of those, read the article, then rewrite the lead so it summarizes it accurately. Now you can remove the "lead too short" tag. Done! Since the "lead" is what is shown in Google Search results and so on, this is an immediately helpful and visible change. If you have any questions as you're exploring, feel free to ask me or (for a speedier response) the many helpful editors at the Teahouse forum. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 22:44, 5 March 2025 (UTC)

DYK for Deborah D. Rogers

On 6 March 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Deborah D. Rogers, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Deborah D. Rogers used Ann Radcliffe's commonplace book to show that Radcliffe was not driven mad by her Gothic novels, but that she just had asthma? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Deborah D. Rogers. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Deborah D. Speedy deletion nomination of The 5 Big Lies About American Business

Hello LEvalyn,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged The 5 Big Lies About American Business for deletion, because it's a redirect from an article title to a namespace that's not for articles.

If you don't want The 5 Big Lies About American Business to be deleted, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

Question from Tbarua01 (13:55, 17 March 2025)

I want to raise an edit request to a protected page --Tbarua01 (talk) 13:55, 17 March 2025 (UTC)

Hello Tbarua01, the best way to do that is to post on the article’s Talk page with an explanation of your edit and a link to the source you’d like to cite. This wizard might be helpful. If that doesn’t work or you have questions, feel free to tell me a little bit more about the edit you’d like to see made and maybe I can help. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 15:51, 17 March 2025 (UTC)
Hi @LEvalyn, already done that. Thanks for the update though. Tbarua01 (talk) 16:22, 17 March 2025 (UTC)

Periplus

I agree with you about the high emphasis used in the redaction I followed the ones used in the authors I've read, so I've tried to change what you qualified as "making proclamations about the subject's importance" I think the assertions left right now, made without that "emphasis " are correctly proved in the supplied references. Assistance

Hi, I saw your message on my talk page and would certainly like to gain more experience in reviewing articles. It would be great if you could help me conduct proper in-depth reviews. I am currently reviewing the article on Starbuck (film) for GA. Would you mind assisting me with the source-to-text spot check? MSincccc (talk) 15:51, 22 March 2025 (UTC)

I'm so sorry for the slow reply here! I've been ill off an on lately and have mostly been editing on my phone from bed, which isn't a good set-up for more complex tasks like GA reviewing. Did you end up doing the source-to-text spot check? I don't see any mention of it in the review, which has now been passed. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 21:35, 25 March 2025 (UTC)

Question from Atrushlanta (02:34, 29 March 2025)

Hello, How do I add to an article based on my own personal knowledge and experience? Thanks,

Atrushlanta --Atrushlanta (talk) 02:34, 29 March 2025 (UTC)

Hello Atrushlanta, and welcome to Wikipedia! It is always valuable to have knowledgeable and experienced people contribute to Wikipedia. One of the biggest principles of Wikipedia is that all the information in an article should be verifiable. To be able to contribute successfully to an article, therefore, you should find the best published information on the topic. Often, having experience in the are means you know exactly which book is the best, or who the experts in the area are, so you can save time on research. Once you've gotten a good source of information, you can summarize it (with citations) to add to an article. Let me know if you have any further questions as you work, and happy editing! ~ L 🌸 (talk) 00:08, 30 March 2025 (UTC)

Question from MeteoFur (23:14, 10 April 2025)

I have occasionally edited and read Wikipedia for years, but I noticed that there are not many images on articles about recent hurricanes. I am a storm chaser and would be willing to donate my photos and footage to be used by Wikipedia. Is there a way I could upload my media, for editors to use as needed? --MeteoFur (talk) 23:14, 10 April 2025 (UTC)

Hello MeteoFur, the answer is yes and your contributions would be very valuable!! Media can be donated at Wikimedia Commons. Feel free to add your images to any articles you think they’d improve. If you have any trouble I am happy to answer any questions, and you can also ask at WP:TEA for a quicker response. Hello mentor!! Harish here. Can you walk me through how to create a Wikipedia page for someone? Thanks in advance. --Harish karthikk (talk) 05:49, 17 April 2025 (UTC)

Hello Harish karthikk, and welcome to Wikipedia! If you mean you want to make a wikipedia article on behalf of someone else, you should read our guidance about conflicts of interest. It is especially important to disclose if you are being paid to edit. If you just want to make a page about someone, you should read our criteria about what kinds of biographies should be on Wikipedia. Regardless, I suggest reading WP:YFA and WP:BACKWARD for advice on how to approach article writing. When you're ready, this wizard can help you get started making an article. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 21:57, 17 April 2025 (UTC)

Question from Neheemarsh on User:Neheemarsh (14:47, 17 April 2025)

Hello, how do I make research on my project work titled: Development of Production Rate Optimization Model in Plastic Industry. --Neheemarsh (talk) 14:47, 17 April 2025 (UTC)

Hello Neheemarsh, and welcome to Wikipedia! I'm not entirely sure what you are asking, but on Wikipedia it is considered a conflict of interest to write or edit an article about yourself, and it is strongly discouraged. (See also WP:AUTOBIO.) That applies to promoting your work, too. However, if you are an expert in a particular topic, Wikipedia always values the expertise of specialists in improving our existing articles on relevant topics, such as plastics industry. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 22:05, 17 April 2025 (UTC)

Question from KennedyRose (18:10, 17 April 2025)

Hi! I have been trying to get an article published, but it has now been rejected fro not having secondary sources which is simply not true. It also says that it reads as more of an advertisement, do you have any tips on how to no make my article seem that way. --KennedyRose (talk) 18:10, 17 April 2025 (UTC)

Hello KennedyRose, and welcome to Wikipedia! Sorry to hear you're having a frustrating time with your first article -- this kind of thing is why we suggest that newcomers should start out by improving existing articles, since it can take quite a while to get comfortable with Wikipedia's norms... especially the very boring and dry "encyclopedic tone" that is preferred for the writing style here.
Looking at Draft:Hina Mural ( Halawa View Apartments ), it looks like the first reviewer didn't say there were no secondary sources, just that there weren't enough of them focused on the mural for them to be convinced there should be an article. It looks like the most recent reviewer isn't as concerned about the sources, just the writing style.
To address that, my advice is to make the article substantially shorter, and focus on having a citation for each individual sentence. You can also try looking at some existing articles for inspiration. Wikipedia has relatively few articles on murals -- Well Hung Lover was the only example I could find after a quick search, and you can see it's a much shorter and simpler article. You could also take inspiration from some Good Articles on paintings, such as A Boy with a Flying Squirrel and Symphony in White, No. 1.
Another approach would be to change your focus entirely, either by adding a brief mention of the mural to a relevant existing article like Hōkūleʻa#Malama Honua (worldwide voyage) (2014–2017), or by making an article about the artist overall and including the mural as just one section.
I hope that is helpful -- let me know if you have any questions, or run into any difficulties. Happy editing! ~ L 🌸 (talk) 22:48, 17 April 2025 (UTC)
