Instructions for nominators

If this is your first nomination, please read the DYK rules before continuing. Further information can be found at the DYK guidelines.

Nominate an article

Frequently asked questions

How do I write an interesting hook?

Successful hooks tend to have several traits. Most importantly, they share a surprising or intriguing fact. They give readers enough context to understand the hook, but leave enough out to make them want to learn more. They are written for a general audience who has no prior knowledge of or interest in the topic area. Lastly, they are concise, and do not attempt to cover multiple facts or present information about the subject beyond what's needed to understand the hook.

When will my nomination be reviewed?

This page is often backlogged. As long as your submission is still on the page, it will stay there until an editor reviews it. Since editors are encouraged to review the oldest submissions first, it may take several weeks until your submission is reviewed. In the meantime, please consider reviewing another submission (not your own) to help reduce the backlog (see instructions below). Because of WP:DYKTIMEOUT, a nomination should be reviewed within two months since the reviewer/promoter may agree to reject and close an unpromoted hook after that time has passed.

Where is my hook?

If you can't find the nomination you submitted to this nominations page, it may have been approved and is on the approved nominations page waiting to be promoted. It could also have been added to one of the prep areas, promoted from prep to a queue, or is on the main page.

If the nominated hook is in none of those places, then the nomination has probably been rejected. Such a rejection usually only occurs if it was at least a couple of weeks old and had unresolved issues for which any discussion had gone stale. If you think your nomination was unfairly rejected, you can query this on the DYK discussion page, but as a general rule such nominations will only be restored in exceptional circumstances.

Instructions for reviewers

Any editor who was not involved in writing/expanding or nominating an article may review it by checking to see that the article meets all the DYK criteria (long enough, new enough, no serious editorial or content issues) and the hook is cited. Editors may also alter the suggested hook to improve it, suggest new hooks, or even lend a hand and make edits to the article to which the hook applies so that the hook is supported and accurate. For more information on the DYK rules and review processes, see the DYK guidelines and the reviewer instructions.

To post a comment or review on a DYK nomination, follow the steps outlined below:

  • Look through this page, Template talk:Did you know, to find a nomination you would like to comment on.
  • Click the "Review or comment" link at the top of the nomination. You will be taken to the nomination subpage.
  • The top of the page includes a list of the DYK criteria. Check the article to ensure it meets all the relevant criteria.
  • To indicate the result of the review (i.e., whether the nomination passes, fails, or needs some minor changes), leave a signed comment on the page. Please begin with one of the 5 review symbols that appear at the top of the edit screen, and then indicate all aspects of the article that you have reviewed; your comment should look something like the following:

Article length and age are fine, no copyvio or plagiarism concerns, reliable sources are used. But the hook needs to be shortened.

If you are the first person to comment on the nomination, there will be a line :* <!-- REPLACE THIS LINE TO WRITE FIRST COMMENT, KEEPING  :* --> showing you where you should put the comment.
  • Save the page.
  • After the nomination is approved, a bot will automatically list the nomination page on Template talk:Did you know/Approved.

If there is any problem or concern about a nomination, please consider notifying the nominator by placing on the nominator's talk page.

Advanced procedures

How to promote an accepted hook

At-a-glance instructions on how to promote an approved hook to a prep area
Check list for nomination review completeness
  1. Select a hook from the approved nominations page that has one of these ticks at the bottom post: .
  2. Check to make sure basic review requirements were completed.
    • Any outstanding issue following needs to be addressed before promoting.
  3. Check the article history for any substantive changes since it was nominated or reviewed.
  4. Images for the lead slot must be freely licensed. Fair-use images are not permitted. Images loaded on Commons that appear on the Main Page are automatically protected by KrinkleBot.
  5. Hook must be stated in both the article and source (which must be cited at the end of the article sentence where stated).
  6. Hook should make sense grammatically.
  7. Try to vary subject matters within each prep area.
  8. Try to select a funny, quirky or otherwise upbeat hook for the last or bottom hook in the set.
Steps to add a hook to prep
  • In one tab, open the nomination page of the hook you want to promote.
  • In a second tab, open the prep set you intend to add the hook to.

Wanna skip all this fuss? Install WP:PSHAW instead! Does most of the heavy lifting for ya :)

  1. For hooks held for specific dates, refer to "Local update times" section on DYK Queue.
    • Completed Prep area number sets will be promoted by an administrator to corresponding Queue number.
  2. Copy and paste the hook into a chosen slot.
    • Make sure there's a space between ... and that, and a ? at the end.
    • Check that there's a bold link to the article.
  3. If it's the lead (first) hook, paste the image where indicated at the top of the template.
  4. Copy and paste ALL the credit information (the DYKmake and DYKnom templates) at the bottom
  5. Check your work in the prep's Preview mode.
    • At the bottom under "Credits", to the right of each article should have the link "View nom subpage" ; if not, a subpage parameter will need to be added to the DYKmake.
  6. Save the Prep page.
Closing the DYK nomination page
  1. At the upper left
    • Change , at the top or bottom.
  4. Save.

For more information, please see T:TDYK#How to promote an accepted hook.

Handy copy sources:

  • To Prep 1
  • To Prep 2
  • To Prep 3
  • To Prep 4
  • To Prep 5
  • To Prep 6
  • To Prep 7

How to remove a rejected hook

  • Open the DYK nomination subpage of the hook you would like to remove. (It's best to wait several days after a reviewer has rejected the hook, just in case someone contests or the article undergoes a large change.)
  • In the window where the DYK nomination subpage is open, replace the line {{DYKsubpage with {{subst:DYKsubpage, and replace |passed= with |passed=no. Then save the page. This has the effect of wrapping up the discussion on the DYK nomination subpage in a blue archive box and stating that the nomination was unsuccessful, as well as adding the nomination to a category for archival purposes.

How to remove a hook from the prep areas or queue

  • Edit the prep area or queue where the hook is and remove the hook and the credits associated with it.
  • Go to the hook's nomination subpage (there should have been a link to it in the credits section).
    • View the edit history for that page
    • Go back to the last version before the edit where the hook was promoted, and revert to that version to make the nomination active again.
    • Add a new icon on the nomination subpage to cancel the previous tick and leave a comment after it explaining that the hook was removed from the prep area or queue, and why, so that later reviewers are aware of this issue.
  • Add a transclusion of the template back to this page so that reviewers can see it. It goes under the date that it was first created/expanded/listed as a GA. You may need to add back the day header for that date if it had been removed from this page.
  • If you removed the hook from a queue, it is best to either replace it with another hook from one of the prep areas, or to leave a message at WT:DYK asking someone else to do so.

How to move a nomination subpage to a new name

  • Don't; it should not ever be necessary, and will break some links which will later need to be repaired. Even if you change the title of the article, you don't need to move the nomination page.

  • Article is new enough and long enough. Hook fact is verified in the sources for 0 and ALT2 - rejecting ALT1 as the source reads “1.2 亿元” - 120 million; not as impressive. QPQ has been provided. No copyvio detected, as expected when all sources are in Chinese. Image is… clear enough at that size, and adequately licensed. Good to go. Strongly prefer ALT2. Juxlos (talk) 09:02, 30 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Pulled. The source says ownership "changed seven times among four countries" but at least two of these were "occupations" rather than ownership. The ALT hook isn't very good either, so I have returned this one for further discussion. Gatoclass (talk) 10:54, 30 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
IMO ALT2 is a DYKINT fail. Suggested alt:
While I think ALT3 is a better hook, I do not see why ALT2 fails DYKINT. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 12:22, 10 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Firstly, it should be "troops" not "armies". But was the house literally occupied by troops from both armies? The article isn't 100% clear on that.
But regardless, it still just reads as a random list of occupiers. What house doesn't have very different occupiers over the course of its history? That is not unusual at all. Gatoclass (talk) 12:57, 10 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It could be for a layperson. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 14:20, 10 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it's really a mansion, not just a 'two-story house". Which incidentally is another problem with that hook IMO. Gatoclass (talk) 15:02, 10 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • The body never mentions that the house was the private residence of Victor Sassoon, only that it was owned by a company. It's also not sated that Sassoon was a hotelier (what a life though). Inclined to agree a house changing hands is not particularly unique. Are the 20 acres and 104 acres adjoining? CMD (talk) 08:23, 17 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I cannot come up with a combined hook, so I will try separate hooks.

Now that 2024 European Athletics Championships – Women's 4 × 400 metres relay is used in a five-article hook, that only leaves the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships – Women's 4 × 400 metres relay to get a hook approved. Diagnostic overshadowing in autism

  • ... that that chronic pain or depression in autistic people is sometimes misread as “just part of autism,” delaying diagnosis and care?
  • Source: “Autistic individuals... experience elevated rates of chronic physical conditions, yet symptoms are often dismissed as part of autism rather than investigated as medical concerns.”
— Diagnostic overshadowing in autism article, citing:
Buie et al., 2010. Evaluation, Diagnosis, and Treatment of Gastrointestinal Disorders in Individuals With ASDs: A Consensus Report. PMID: 20048083
  • ALT1: ... that that older autistic adults may go untreated for conditions like sensory loss, pain, or memory decline because their symptoms are wrongly attributed to autism?
  • Source: “Older autistic adults... may be at heightened risk for misattributed cognitive decline (e.g., assuming communication challenges reflect autism when it may signal aging-related dementia or memory loss), untreated sensory loss... or inadequate pain management.”
— Diagnostic overshadowing in autism article, citing:
Hand et al., 2020. Prevalence of physical and mental health conditions in Medicare-enrolled, autistic older adults. PMID: 31773968
  • Reviewed:
  • Comment: This is my first DYK nomination. This article highlights a significant and under-recognized health equity issue in autism: how co-occurring conditions like chronic pain or memory decline may be missed due to diagnostic overshadowing.

PulsarPen (talk) 17:37, 4 June 2025 (UTC).[reply]

  • @PulsarPen: Thanks for writing an important article like this! Here's the DYK review:
General: Article is new enough and long enough

Policy compliance:

Hook eligibility:

  • Cited: No - ALT0 isn't fully supported by the article - chronic pain and depression aren't specifically mentioned in the relevant sentence.
  • Interesting: Yes
  • Other problems: No - Both hooks need formatting changes.
QPQ: None required.

Overall: The hooks aren't formatted correctly - this guideline describes the standard style that hooks should be written in. As well as this, the first hook (ALT0) isn't supported by the article. Here's suggestions for improving your hooks, with correct formatting and the first hook's issue fixed:

To have the review passed, you'll also have to add citations to the end of a few paragraphs, as "all content that could reasonably be challenged ... must be cited no later than the end of the paragraph (or line if the content is not in prose)." (from this guideline). Here's all the instances that need a citation:

  • Section "Physical health in autistics", paragraph starting "Such misattributions can result in..."
  • Section "Diagnostic overshadowing in reverse", paragraph starting "This form of overshadowing delays access to..."
  • The first paragraph of the "Systemic contributors" section
  • Section "Diagnostic overshadowing over the lifespan", paragraph starting "This form of lifespan overshadowing reflects..."

And one more minor thing: this doesn't affect whether or not the review passes, but usually when providing sources in DYK nominations, quotes are given from the citations themselves in order to make it easier for the reviewer to verify that the hooks are sourced.

Once the citation issues have been fixed, I'll be happy to pass this! I personally think that the first hook is a little more interesting than the second. Suntooooth, it/he (talk/contribs) 23:33, 7 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@PulsarPen: Courtesy ping to let you know that this DYK will be rejected for inactivity soon if there's no reply. Suntooooth, it/he (talk/contribs) 15:52, 16 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Suntooooth and @IntentionallyDense, thank you both for your time and thoughtful feedback on this DYK. I’ve carefully addressed each point as follows: My intended edits are below. I’m struggling a bit about how to edit the DYK page…. Please bear with me as I try to figure this out (also appreciate any help on the adding my intended edits below) — Preceding unsigned comment added by PulsarPen (talkcontribs) 00:10, 17 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

1. Synthesis Concern (IntentionallyDense) Reviewer comment: The article previously cited only epilepsy and GI disorders but made a broader claim about chronic conditions, which could be WP:SYNTH. My response:
I've rewritten the sentence to remove the unsourced generalization. The updated phrasing now ties each condition (e.g., chronic pain, GI symptoms, autoimmune conditions) to secondary sources that explicitly discuss them. I also added:

  • Mason et al. (2019): A systematic review that documents elevated chronic physical health conditions in autistic adults.
  • Croen et al. (2015): A population-level study supporting multisystem health disparities.

This ensures that the revised statement reflects the scope of the sources used and avoids synthesis.

2. Hook Citation Support (Suntooooth) Reviewer comment: ALT0 originally referenced chronic pain and depression, but those conditions weren’t clearly cited in the article sentence used. My response:
I revised the hook for clarity and ensured it matches the wording and sourcing in the article. The final hook is now: ALT0: ... that chronic conditions in autistic people are sometimes misread as "just part of autism", delaying diagnosis and care? This wording directly reflects the cited section of the article, which now ends with high-quality secondary citations (e.g., Mason et al. 2019, Buie et al. 2010).

3. Citation Placement at End of Paragraphs Reviewer comment: Several paragraphs did not end with citations as required. My response:
I’ve reviewed and updated all flagged paragraphs to ensure proper citation placement, specifically:

  • “Physical health in autistics” — now ends with Mason et al. (2019)
  • “Diagnostic overshadowing in reverse” — now ends with Moyse & Porter (2015), a secondary source
  • First paragraph of “Systemic contributors” — updated to cite Mason et al. (2019)
  • Paragraph in “Diagnostic overshadowing over the lifespan” — ends with Croen et al. (2015) and Mason et al. (2019)

4. Hook Formatting Reviewer comment: Hooks weren’t in standard format. My response:
Both hooks have now been updated to follow the DYK format:

  • ALT0: ... that chronic conditions in autistic people are sometimes misread as "just part of autism", delaying diagnosis and care?
  • ALT1: ... that older autistic adults may go untreated for conditions like sensory loss, pain, or memory decline because their symptoms are wrongly attributed to autism?

Each now appears as a complete question in DYK style and reflects a verified section in the article with inline secondary citations.

5. Quotes from Sources (Optional Suggestion) Reviewer suggestion: Consider quoting the sources in the DYK nomination to make reviewer verification easier. My response:
I’ve added direct quote snippets from Buie et al. (2010), Mason et al. (2019), and Croen et al. (2015) into the nomination template to make verification easier.

“Autistic individuals experience elevated rates of a wide range of chronic physical conditions…” Mason et al. (2019) “Chronic constipation, abdominal pain, and other GI symptoms… are often misinterpreted as behavioral issues in autism.” –Buie et al. (2010) “Autistic adults had significantly higher rates of chronic conditions including hypertension, diabetes, and dementia.” Croen et al. (2015) — Preceding unsigned comment added by PulsarPen (talkcontribs) 00:08, 17 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reply, but I'm going to have to ask for a second opinion from another reviewer. I'm not 100% sure that this should pass, and I'm on holiday right now so I don't have time to give this the attention it deserves - but I don't think it's a straightforward pass. (Also, you obviously didn't read the format guideline I linked in the review.) Suntooooth, it/he (talk/contribs) 00:26, 17 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The article is currently tagged for issues relating to potential OR and SYNTH, and there is some discussion on this in the talkpage. The page cannot proceed through DYK while resolution of those issues is pending. I don't want this to timeout as it may have taken on the appearance of a slightly byzantine process, but at the same time I'm sure everyone agrees that this is an important topic and it's important to get it right, especially for a main page appearance. @Narutolovehinata5 and Piotrus: any thoughts on these:
ALT3: ... that Alabama's 28-point loss in the championship of the 2018–19 College Football Playoff was double the margin of their prior largest loss under head coach Nick Saban? source
ALT4: ... that by winning the 2018–19 College Football Playoff, Clemson became the first team in the AP poll era to finish a season undefeated with 15 wins? source same as ALT3
ALT5: ... that Donald Trump served Clemson players and coaches fast food during their playoff championship visit to the White House? source

Hmmm, for general interest, maybe the last one? All others are pretty technical, and for someone not interested in sports (read: myself) they are not only uninteresting but hard to parse (but, please note, I am not vetoing them, per my previous comments - I fully accept that they can be interesting to those who like sports and understand the related jargon. FYI, by jargon I mean stuff like AP poll or margin of prior score). --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 08:44, 14 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
As much as I'm not a big fan of Trump hooks, or at least there being too many of them, ALT5 is probably the best and least specialist option. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 09:00, 14 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not thrilled about being responsible for another Trump hook, but at this point every football-related one seems unlikely to get approval and that seems to me to be the hookiest non-football-related fact. PCN02WPS (talk | contribs) 14:27, 14 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
We also have this if it is sufficiently free of "jargon" (this feels easily understandable to someone not intimately familiar with CFB - I would hope that people can understand what a "point" is and can make the connection between having fewer points and losing a game, margin of victory is also a fairly elementary concept that I would expect people to be able to understand, especially when worded like this):
ALT6: ... that Alabama's 28-point loss in the championship of the 2018–19 College Football Playoff was their largest loss since 1998? source
PCN02WPS (talk | contribs) 16:55, 14 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
ALT5 could be modified to mention American football (since the current hook is vague on what sport what the Clemson players played); I am willing to approve both ALT5 and ALT6 once that is sorted out. ALT6 does need to be clarified though: by "largest loss", does that mean in any game, or just any college playoff game? Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 09:46, 16 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The provided source clarifies this right at the top: The 28-point loss is Alabama’s worst since a 38-7 loss to Virginia Tech in the 1998 Music City Bowl. I still much prefer ALT6 to ALT6a, since I feel like "in any game" would be the default interpretation given the wording and the lack of a qualifier, but I don't feel like continuing in this fix loop so I'll offer these up.

PCN02WPS (talk | contribs) 14:32, 16 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Given that there are some reservations at WT:DYK regarding using the word "football" without a qualifier, we could just go with vanilla ALT5 after all, or perhaps go with something like this:
ALT5b: ... that Donald Trump served Clemson Tigers players and coaches fast food during their 2018–19 College Football Playoff championship visit to the White House?
Technically it still uses "football" without "American football", but in this case "College Football Playoff" is a proper term, so that should help. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 22:53, 16 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I am not a fan of 5b (the whole title of the article being awkwardly shoehorned in just to satisfy using "football" without "American" attached sounds clunky to me), but also all of the nit-picks are getting a little silly at this point so whatever gets a tick is fine with me. FWIW my preference is 6a, which I think is easily understandable and interesting to a broad enough audience ("largest loss in 20 years" is pretty straightforward). Pinging Piotrus since you can't approve your own hook just in case you like 5b best. PCN02WPS (talk | contribs) 02:27, 17 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I am fine with all variants of 5, although tweaking any mention of football to say American football is probably a good idea, as is mentioning the team's full name (ex. Clemson Tigers rather than Clemson). Sorry to say 6 is very mundane; translating it to my "field", ex. did you know that book x by writer y was his least profitable work - meh... sure, apples and oranges, but I prefer 5, because Trump is general interest, like it (him...) or not. -Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 05:48, 17 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
For what it's worth, per WP:DYKRR, hooks proposers are allowed to approve their own hooks, if and only if they are just minor rewordings of previously proposed hooks and do not introduce any new hook facts that need verification. Per the above discussion, I am self-approving ALT5b (I have also slightly modified it to mention the Tigers' full name). Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 08:48, 17 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • @CanonNi: Article is new enough and -just- long enough. QPQ has been provided, copyvio not detected (and unlikely due to Taiwanese-only sources). The hook, though, states that Lü is "the longest-serving leader", a factoid which is not mentioned in the article (or in the thenewslens.com article, which was published well before him being leader). Could you provide a mention and a source for that claim? Juxlos (talk) 04:12, 31 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

ALT0a ... that in 1962, Namibian activist Werner Mamugwe was banned from entering Bechuanaland, present-day Botswana?
Admittedly it's clunky, but the context is there at least. The issue is that the article does not elaborate on why he was banned, and the article does not discuss it further other than the mention. If it could be elaborated on, maybe a proper hook could be proposed. Other than that, I think the most interesting part of the article was the one about how he had to survive a few days in the wilderness, although I don't know how to write that as a hook. I did mention at Wikipedia talk:Did you know#Quit Dreaming and Get on the Beam that 5000+ views a day says a broad audience knows who she is and that therefore almost any hook would pass the 'intriguing' part of WP:DYKINT. I'm not going to refuse to suggest a "normal" hook at this point, but given that pop music hooks do poorly at WP:DYKSTATS (I was shocked by how badly Push 2 Start did), I strongly recommend that we go with an April Fool's hook for this (albeit maybe not this one).--Launchballer 01:03, 18 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Eh, two other editors objected to the hook (not just me), so it seems that there is loose consensus at least to move away from this angle or even from an April Fools' angle entirely. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 01:06, 18 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

It's a good hook that creates plenty of intrigue and should get plenty of hits, indeed, it would probably do better if it wasn't used on April Fool's Day (when a bunch of questionable hooks tend to degrade overall impact) but just used as a standard quirky. Not every hook needs to spell out every aspect of the topic - probably half the hooks posted omit detail to create more interest. Gatoclass (talk) 02:51, 18 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Gotta agree with Naruto, this is not "interesting". The only thought that I am left with after reading it is "where's the rest of the sentence?" And just because a broad audience knows who someone is does not mean that "almost any hook" would be intriguing. --User:Khajidha (talk) (contributions) 13:16, 18 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Peace discourse in the Israeli–Palestinian conflict

  • ... that the goal of "peace" may mean different things to Israelis and Palestinians?
  • Source: Sambaraju & McVittie 2018, p. 116: “There remains the question of what is to be, or indeed can be, done about the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. One useful starting point would be to reconsider the use of talk of peace and violence in this context. If the term ‘peace’ is indeed nothing more than ‘an attractive but empty box’ (Gavriely-Nuri, 2010, p. 566), into which anyone can place and argue for what is to count as peace, then it can achieve little to retain this as the most desirable description of an outcome. Equally, where it becomes bound up with expectations (or lack of expectations) of international actors, then ‘peace’ potentially does little more than add layers of misunderstanding to existing complexities and to obscure what is at issue.”

@TarnishedPath: the first part is in there: Supporters of Israel, particularly those on the right-wing, primarily advocate for a negative peace or oppressive peace, where peace means security for Israelis with continuing control over, oppression of, or subjugation of Palestinians. I have just added two more sources, with quotes, to support the sentence.
With respect to the "has not proven sustainable", sadly I don't think a source is needed to prove such a statement as we sit here in June 2025, per WP:SKYBLUE. Onceinawhile (talk) 20:13, 21 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

If the hook is the primary issue, there are two others which are also interesting which can be used. @Gatoclass: can we get some clarification please? TarnishedPathtalk 23:47, 1 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The original hook above looks fine.
With regard to the article, it isn't irredeemable, but using words like "oppressive" in Wikipedia's voice is inappropriate and needs to be properly attributed. Gatoclass (talk) 09:24, 2 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Gatoclass: "oppressive" is directly supported by scholarly sources in this context, as quoted in the article. This is a sensitive topic, so we must find the optimal language - not too strong and not too weak. The word “oppressive” is better than stronger words like apartheid, persecuting, dehumanizing, terrorizing, and better than doublespeak like governing or administering, that obscure the topic at hand. Its usage here is carefully thought through:
  • The word is factual: encapsulating the well-known Israeli restrictions on Palestinian movement, goods, basic utilities, speech, assembly, self-determination, residency, trade, and legal rights around matters like home demolitions and administrative detentions.
  • The word is carefully contextualized: While the word on its own can raise a question of justice/morality, its use here is clearly and consistently subordinated to the Israeli justification of peace and security. This ensures it is appropriately and neutrally contextualized in both the hook and the article.
The intention is to communicate the underlying debate on the topic of peace - Israelis primarily want security, Palestinians primarily want fundamental rights, and Israelis primarily aim for security at the expense of those Palestinian rights.
Onceinawhile (talk) 10:02, 4 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

How about:

@Gatoclass: thanks. It doesn’t quite work because:
  • the nebulous terms “security” and “justice” communicate almost nothing on their own
  • The primary point of interest is why those two topics appear mutually exclusive in the Israeli-Palestinian context, since most of the world’s other neighboring adversaries are able to achieve an element of both
  • Palestinian future human “rights” are undoubtedly more important than the past historical “justice”
  • It needs a word like “commonly” or “often”, as neither are monoliths.
Two alternatives below:
  • ALT4: ... that Palestinians commonly frame peace as conditional on justice, while Israelis commonly frame it as conditional on security without justice?
  • ALT5: ... that Palestinians often frame peace as conditional on the re-establishment of their fundamental rights, while Israelis often frame it as conditional on their security at the expense of Palestinian rights?
Onceinawhile (talk) 14:16, 9 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but both those hooks are violations of WP:DYKBLP in my view, which specifies that hooks must adopt "a neutral point of view." Since we can't seem to agree on a hook, I will take this to WT:DYK for wider input. Gatoclass (talk) 15:02, 9 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Gatoclass: What is your assessment of non-neutrality based on? If it is based on your instinct, you are not assessing it at all. Our neutrality policy says it "…means representing fairly, proportionately, and, as far as possible, without editorial bias, all the significant that have been on a topic." If you are unable to show that other viewpoints exist on this topic, then your gut instinct may well be wrong. Onceinawhile (talk) 22:58, 9 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, firstly, I'm sure there used to be a DYK rule that said something along the lines of hooks relating to politically charged topics should not give the impression of favoring one side over another. There have been a lot of changes to the rules over the last few years and maybe somebody decided that NPOV was sufficient, I don't know. I might look into that when I can find the time.
Regardless, the hooks above imply that "peace without justice" or "peace at the expense of Palestinian rights" is the official, stated position of the Israeli state. I very much doubt that Israel has ever formally and publicly adopted such a position, because that would be very detrimental to their international image. Now, those positions may well be the effective position of the state, but that's not the same thing. So at the very least, the hooks would have to be modified to say something along the lines of " ... that reliable sources broadly agree that the effective position of the Israeli state is such-and-such", but then you are getting not only a very clunky hook, but also raising the problem of trying to demonstrate a rubbery opinion about what reliable sources broadly agree upon. To put it another way, facts on DYK have to be incontrovertible, not merely based on somebody's opinion of what reliable sources broadly have to say, because that is a can of worms that a project like DYK does not have the resources to verify. Gatoclass (talk) 00:11, 10 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not terribly keen on ALT1, but it does pass the neutrality test. Gatoclass (talk) 15:44, 9 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I have no objection to ALT1.
But, for the record, the implications of Gatoclass and Airship’s comments regarding ALT2, ALT4 and ALT5 so far appear to be based on incorrect pre-conceptions. Even if we move ahead with ALT1, Gatoclass and Airship will benefit from a deep read of the sources, as these statements are wholly factual, even if they may be uncomfortable. Onceinawhile (talk) 23:07, 9 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
For the record, it seems that Onceinawhile's comment appears to be based on the incorrect preconception that being "wholly factual" is the only criterion DYK must take into account. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 07:53, 11 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Quite frankly, I think ALT1 sucks and I'd prefer not to see it run, so I am still hoping to persuade the nominator to accept ALT3, but he seems to have disappeared ATM. If he won't accept it though, I guess it will have to be ALT1. Gatoclass (talk) 09:12, 12 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
ALT1 at least makes people think. ALT3 is unacceptable because it implies "security" as defensive (usual for most societies), whereas the Israeli approach to security is offensive and requires the permanent oppression of another people. A similar case can be made for Palestinians and the word "justice", where their need for fundamental rights is clear but their approach to historical redress can be outside of the achievable window (see South Africa – with peace they got their rights but still lots of historical injustice unaddressed). The difference being that the potential for a wide interpretation of "justice" is obvious to most people.
It can be argued that the inability to understand what "security" means to Israelis is the primary reason that the conflict is so divisive today. Onceinawhile (talk) 09:24, 12 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) In any case, having just tried to verify ALT1, it turns out that it misstates the source (which itself is remarkably badly written and obscure). So I think it's a strike.
Having said that, on reflection I can't see much wrong with ALT0, it's short, to the point, and I think sufficiently interesting, so I would consider that a viable alternative. Gatoclass (talk) 09:37, 12 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I am fine with ALT0. I don’t see how ALT1 misstates the source – it literally quotes from it (see "layers of misunderstanding" in the quotation at the top of this thread).Onceinawhile (talk) 09:40, 12 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Well for one thing, the source says it "potentially" adds layers of misunderstanding, so the hook is inaccurate on that count. More importantly though, it isn't at all clear from the context that the writers are talking of layers of misunderstanding between Israelis and Palestinians specifically - they might mean it potentially adds layers of misunderstanding for the "international actors" it references. Additionally, it doesn't actually say the different concepts of peace are those advanced by either Israelis or Palestinians, it just talks about the concept of peace being like a box that "anyone" can fill as they please. So for my money the hook is an accuracy fail in multiple ways.
With regard to your comment above about ALT3 implying "security as defensive" and therefore somehow justified, that is a misreading of the hook, because it does not say the Israelis consider peace to be conditional on security, it says they frame it as conditional on security, which is a different thing altogether.
Regardless, since you still don't appear ready to accept ALT3, as I said I too am willing to accept ALT0. Gatoclass (talk) 10:07, 12 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I personally think you're being a tad bit semantic on ALT1, but if ALT0 is what we can agree on lets do it. There's no need to further debate the issue. TarnishedPathtalk 12:02, 12 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The hook may need to be revised as it is hard to understand. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 13:42, 24 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Narutolovehinata5: "the song gained a legendary reputation after two remarkable performances at Jahangirnagar University’s Muktamanch, rain unexpectedly began to fall moments after song started. In 1991, just moments after the song began, rain unexpectedly began to fall. The phenomenon repeated itself in 1992 at the same venue during another performance of the song—further cementing its mythical connection to the monsoon." - This is the attractive/amazing info linked to the song and place. To keep the hook's length within 200 prose characters, and make it more interesting the hook is abbreviated as the ALT 3 one.
This is a common practice for DYK. For example, you may check Scenes in the Square. There is a Mr. Bean statue. Its is mentioned in article as well. For DYK the nominator make it more interestingly proposed the hooks as ".. that you can sit next to Mr. Bean (pictured) in Leicester Square?" without mentioning the name of article. Also many times two article is represented in one hook. ~ Φαϊσάλ (talk) 15:50, 26 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@FaysaLBinDaruL: GPTZero says Muktamanch is AI-generated and Sraboner is AI-polished, care to explain yourself?--Launchballer 08:48, 17 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Launchballer: Thanks for your concern. Muktamanch is not generated, rather translated using AI comparison between Being Translator and Google Translate from BN to EN. Both of these translator is not always give "close and accurate meaning". It was tiresome for me to translate and compare and determine the best translation. I did write some of my EN articles by selecting best translation before AI arrived. Translator websites often cannot provide the right punctuation. I took help from AI for correct punctuation, according to EN grammar.
As for "Sraboner..." the heading was sounds like "simple English", I tried to put more rich and accurate wording, but the translation from original BN article is not deviated. for "Production" paragraph, I followed songs related good article style. Hook's info are not polished, rather written using best vocabulary. ~ Φαϊσάλ (talk) 23:05, 19 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
PS: None of the original BN wiki articles are AI generated, you may check using GPTZero, for in depth review. ~ Φαϊσάλ (talk) 23:07, 19 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Policy compliance:

Hook eligibility:

QPQ: Done.

Overall: The article was created on June 12, and was nominated for DYK on June 14, which is in the seven-day period. It is long enough with 4001 characters (687 words ) of readable prose size. No image is used and the QPQ requirement has already been fullfilled. Down below I list the issues I found with this nomination:

  • The copyvious tool has detected a case of copypasted text, which is the following: was admitted to Serie C on 27 June 2024 to fill a vacancy created by Ancona's exclusion. In their debut season, Milan Futuro were immediately relegated to the Serie D. They placed 18th in the regular season, and they lost to SPAL (2–1 on aggregate) in the relegation play–offs. You should rewrite this part in your own words and without abusing close paraphrasing.
  • There is a short citation (Gravina & Brunelli 2020) that is incomplete.
  • The current Reserve Teams section has no sources.
  • The original hook isn't particularly interesting or intriguing. ALT1 is more interesting, so I propose going with it once the aforementioned issues are dealt with.

@Moondragon21: Lots to whinge about here I'm afraid; the first two paragraphs of the body are unsourced, I'm uncomfortable with mentioning the murder weapon in the hook per WP:DYKGRAT, numerous sections deserve clump and these want resolving, and this badly needs a copyedit. • Hey, Jeromi Mikhael. The article is more than long enough and counts as new. The 2020 book by Kusumaatmadja does not, as far as I can see, mention Widyantini on the cited pages 118–120. It mentions her only on page 100, and there it does not say anything about her date of birth or place of birth. Could you please double check and ensure that everything in the article is sourced and that the cited sources cover the information they are supposed to cover? I also wonder whether a more interesting hook could be produced from the article. One might even wonder whether focusing on a woman minister acting as a nanny for her male predecessor is a sensitive choice of hook. Surtsicna (talk) 08:35, 10 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Z1720: Hi, really sorry for the late response, I've amended the citation for the phrase and included a relevant citation for the date and place of birth. I'm not so sure if that's offensive, since Rini was acting as a host for her predecessor and that she did it out of kindness? If you think that's offensive I could offer this alternative: ALT 1: "... that Indonesia's current state apparatus minister, Rini Widyantini, was appointed as spokesperson in a coffee morning event?", which could be sourced to citation no. 13 in the article. Regards, Jeromi Mikhael 09:07, 20 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It is not particularly offensive to me, Jeromi Mikhael, but I can imagine that someone might wonder why we are focusing on that rather than on her accomplishments. As for ALT1, we again seem to be faced with the verifiability problem: I see no mention of a coffee morning event in the (automatically translated) cited source. 2025 Chennai Super Kings season

Vestrian24Bio 16:05, 17 June 2025 (UTC).[reply]

  • This is a comment and not a review: I have mixed feelings about this hook. On the one hand, the hook is borderline specialist since it requires knowledge that the Super Kings are usually good. On the other hand, the IPL is a huge deal in India, a country of over 1 billion people. This is a weird case in that I'm not actually sure if the hook as currently written is interesting to a broad audience, as whether or not it does depends on how you define "broad". On the one hand, cricket is really only popular in a relatively small number of countries, so outside of those countries the hook may not be as interesting. On the other hand, three of the countries where cricket is big (India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh) are very populous, so in theory the number of people this hook attracts is very large. It's a question of how wide the hook's interest is versus how deep. I don't swing either way (although I'd be leaning more towards it being interesting), so it would be good to ask for a second opinion here, ideally from a non-cricket fan. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 11:01, 20 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Some extra hooks, which are hopefully more interesting (link placement may need some adjusting):
The last one requires a source from the team's main article as well. It cites [5], which should do. Toadspike [Talk] 12:00, 20 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

There are 14 sources in the article, with the clear indication there are more in printed media that hasn't been digitised. My experience with articles such as this suggests notability is OK with this, but, to be honest, I only submitted this because it was the last article in a list that was being set up to be sent to draft space. I'm perfectly find with it failing DYK if you don't feel that having a book reference makes it dubious. You'd probably need to look in Indian sources fwiw – that's where he seems to have spent most of his working life. After retirement I'm 99% certain he was living in the south of France, but, presumably, returned to the UK at some point, perhaps in 1939. Anyway, I'd sort of forgotten about this, so whatever Blue Square Thing (talk) 19:07, 9 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
A lack of Google Books coverage doesn't equate to non-notability: probably most subjects I write about for DYK aren't written about much in books. If you think the article is non-notable then take it to AFD and place the nomination on hold (though I'll say that the subject looks notable to me); otherwise I don't see anything that should stop this nom. BeanieFan11 (talk) 16:56, 11 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I asked whether there were sources beyond the obituaries and marriage registers, BeanieFan11. Do they seem sufficient to you to establish notability? Surtsicna (talk) 08:06, 12 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Blue Square Thing: Are you able to add additional sources? @Surtsicna: If you still think this article is not notable per WP:GNG, can you please bring the article to WP:AfD? Z1720 (talk) 23:27, 19 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I doubt very much I'd be able to access the sources that people would be looking for. At AfD this is no worse than a redirect to one of the lists that he appears on, but I think there's a very, very strong NEXIST argument that can be made here. There are clearly multiple references to him and his family in Indian newspapers – Allen's Indian Mail, Times of India etc... (I can see, for example, that The Pioneer named him as one of the principal cricketers in India in 1889, but there's no chance whatsoever that I'll be able to find articles from that source digitised not behind a paywall, and the searching looks like it would take a while – I have more than 2000 hits on Newnham with a time restriction of 1880 to 1910 in various Indian papers at Granth Sanjeevani) The only ones that are accessible are those that have been digitised by volunteers. I suspect there will also be references to him in Moscow media which is totally inaccessible to me. And probably from the south of France. I imagine that a full trawl through the Times and other such sources will find refs as well – he's certainly mentioned quite frequently in Cricket (the search function is OK, but not perfect obviously). It wouldn't surprise me to find more detailed references in Malvern archives as well, which are largely not digitised. Ultimately what Wisden says is really quite strong – it doesn't say these sorts of things about most people who got obits. And he played for the Gents v Players – this is pretty notable by itself. Put everything together and you've got WP:BASIC I think – the first bullet.
This doesn't need to go to DYK from my pov. Honestly, I think it's better sourced than at least one of the articles at DYK right now, but I think I've given up trying to work out any of this sort of stuff :-)
I could trawl all the sources but I'll be away for most of the next six weeks. There will be times I can check back here, but I doubt very much I'll have more than a block of two or three days to focus on any articles. There's no way I'll have time to do the leg work to find the sources, if they've actually been digitised. But, and I don't invoke NEXIST frequently, I have no doubt whatsoever that they're there Blue Square Thing (talk) 08:49, 20 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't looked into it much, but I would say the Wisden obituary is SIGCOV, and Blue Square Thing is someone I trust regarding the notability of cricketers (i.e. if he says a cricketer is notable, I would think he's probably right). BeanieFan11 (talk) 00:08, 20 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'm honestly not a fan of hooks that require the nominator to explain its importance or interestingness in the nomination. DYKINT suggests that hooks need to be interesting to non-specialist audiences, meaning the hook should be more-or-less self-evident without requiring too much knowledge. Do you have any other suggestions? Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 09:46, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I mean special/by-elections rather important in many places, and for someone who administers elections to personally vote on one must be rare.
Other facts are that he counseled for politicians before becoming involved with the Commission on Elections but I thought that's boring. Howard the Duck (talk) 10:51, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It still feels like specialist information at best. It's probably better to just go in a different direction, if possible. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 10:53, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
By-elections are standard fare in English speaking countries. This is not specialist at all. Such elections are standard fare on WP:DYK.
Also some other facts are unsavory and may not pass WP:BLP more so on the Main Page. Howard the Duck (talk) 11:02, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Narutolovehinata5: Does the above satisfy your concerns? @Howard the Duck: Are there any additional hooks you would like to propose? Z1720 (talk) 23:29, 19 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Far from it: the reason I did not comment further was because I still thought the hook was problematic, even with the additional context. If a hook requires a nominator's explanation to be interesting, at the very least it meeting DYKINT is tenuous at best. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 23:45, 19 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I won't be making any further changes as I believe it passes WP:DYKINT and none of the other articles I cited above had been placed in similar circumstances. Special elections are standard DYK fare and this blurb should not be held to a higher standard.
Given the above, I am marking this for closure for lack of a DYKINT-compliant hook. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 00:59, 20 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I have opened a discussion about this at WT:DYK#Template:Did you know nominations/George Garcia. Howard the Duck (talk) 01:42, 20 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

As per the discussion, a new hook can be formed that is more interesting and has some more importance history-wise, ALT1 ... that George Garcia successfully defended Filipino politician Grace Poe's birthright citizenship before the Supreme Court of the Philippines? SonOfYoutubers (talk) 00:44, 21 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I'd be fine with delinking "Supreme Court of the Philippines" and just call it the "Supreme Court". Now this has almost no context whatsoever, so let's see how the gatekeepers like this. Howard the Duck (talk) 11:35, 21 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think it should be shortened down to just 'Supreme Court', that's way too ambiguous and can represent the Supreme Court of any country. I also think it's fine linked. SonOfYoutubers (talk) 14:20, 21 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The blurb already specifies Grace Poe is a "Filipino politician". I don't think Zambia's supreme court determines the birthright citizenship of Filipino politicians. I can be fine with linking to "Supreme Court". Howard the Duck (talk) 14:29, 21 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Well, hypothetically, it could be any other supreme court. Birthright citizenship can also be acquired from jus sanguinis, maybe in a case where someone fights in another country for citizenship despite being born in another territory. Anyways, no, I think it's fine to keep it because readers could also glance over the 'Filipino' part and might not even notice it. SonOfYoutubers (talk) 14:36, 21 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hypothetically, someone else on the review process may say parts of the blurb are redundant, but I'd yield on this. Howard the Duck (talk) 14:42, 21 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Not to go off-topic (and I apologize for this but I see a pattern), but please be more respectful. The other reviewers and I are just trying to do our job to help nominations be approved, including yours. Calling them "gatekeepers" and constantly objecting doesn't exactly help. SonOfYoutubers (talk) 14:53, 21 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I know gatekeepers object to that term, and I do sincerely apologize if the term can be thought of as offensive, but I'd just want to make sure the nomination goes through without any more hitches. I'm trying to cover all bases here. This nomination has lasted for almost a month. People object to every part of the process here, it's not just me who objects. WP:DYKHOOKS have to be pithy as well, that's why I'd want it to be shortened and have redundant parts of the hook - which someone else may object to later(!) - be edited. Also, someone else down the line may object that the hook doesn't focus on Garcia but on Poe; I've been told that this is fine, but like I said, someone else may object to this down the road. Like I said earlier, I'd yield on both just to get this over with. Let's just hope nobody else objects on both accounts. Howard the Duck (talk) 15:01, 21 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It's fine if there's another objection/edit, although I would rather, for both your and this nomination's sake, that any minor edits like shortening of the hook occur during promotion rather than here; I understand the frustration of a nomination taking a long time, minor edits shouldn't lengthen it. Certainly now, because of the discussion opened earlier, nobody should object against the hook based on DYKINT, since it seems most agreed that the new hook is interesting enough now; if somebody does, then they are personally objecting rather than using community consensus, although I guess another discussion could always be opened if somebody really wants to. To help quicken the process, I'll add the symbol requesting a new review on this same edit so that the new hook is reviewed. SonOfYoutubers (talk) 15:14, 21 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Did you know that some sort of this fact has already been on DYK? Can we do that instead? LOL. Howard the Duck (talk) 14:29, 21 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I have no clue if you can just copy past hooks, but either way, it should focus on the article's subject matter (George Garcia). That hook specifically focuses on the case itself and its result/effect. SonOfYoutubers (talk) 14:36, 21 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    • Comment: The overly long-ish paragraphs are fine for older people like myself who grew up with that style and have no problem with it, but apparently people under the age of 30 are adverse to it and prefer paragraphs half the size you are using due to their unique readability preferences attributed to social media. Something to consider if you want to increase younger readership of your article. I've been told by several people that they refuse to read articles like this, which I find strange and unusual, but every generation has their idiosyncrasies. Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
    QPQ: None required.

Overall: Hello, friend. It looks like you forgot to add citations in eight separate instances. Given your style, I think you assumed the reader knew that the material was sourced later, but current house style is to have the citations at the end of the sentence or the paragraph. I was able to fix one instance because it looked like you moved the citation to support the hook, so I doubled it up after that one example. But the other eight need you to do the same. Everything else checks out. For a list of the eight instances, citations should appear after the following words, usually at the end of a paragraph supporting the material that comes before it, but you can do it any way you want: 1) "...the role of booking acts and general management."; 2) "...and finally Procol Harum to play over the following weeks."; 3) "...along with members of The Herd and The Mindbenders."; 4) "...Pine decided to accept the offer and leave the Arden organisation."; 5) "...the next groups he signed for Meehan being the Edgar Broughton Band and Stray."; 6) "...But when Hemdale removed their public listing from the stock market, the deal fell through."; 7) "...Alfonse Sisca and Arnold Squitieri from the Gambino crime family."; 8) "...Pine is buried in Milford Road Cemetery, New Milton." I assume that all you have to do is duplicate the citations already in use. Also, don't forget, you need to double up the citation when you refer to a quote. The citation style has become more strict over the years. Add those in and I will pass. Addendum: While I think ALT0 is fine, you're going to run into opposition from others because you are playing around with the ambiguity to make it interesting. As the source shows, Ozzy didn't really dislocate Pine's arm, the vibrating bed did; all Ozzy did was add an excessive amount of quarters to the machine, which likely did cause his arm to become dislocated, legendary story or not. I don't have a problem with your wording, and I think it's fine, but having seen how this kind of thing plays out, you're going to get people who argue that it isn't an accurate hook. With that said, try to come up with some alternate hooks for ALT0 that preserve the meaning and intent but also stay true to the source. Update: Sourcing added, so passing ALT0 and ALT1 for now. Continuing discussion about more hooks below. Viriditas (talk) 22:40, 9 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Viritas, thanks very much for the advice and for checking and improving this submission. I've done what you asked. Please do let me know if there's anything more that needs to be done. I've added a wikilink for the bed: Magic Fingers Vibrating Bed. The brand isn't specified in Geezer's book but it was the only one available in the early 1970s, so I think we can add the interesting link. If not, it can easily be amended to vibrating bed, per the original. Ericoides (talk) 13:17, 10 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It's an interesting question. We agree that it is highly likely that a vibrating bed refers to a Magic Fingers Vibrating Bed. But the source doesn't say that, and it adds unnecessary words to your hook. Current house style leans towards having as few links as possible to increase the number of visits to your nom, and to limit the number of words. My preference would be to avoid linking as much as possible, but styles vary. If you link to Ozzy and Black Sabbath as is your wont, then try to move the blue link to the front so that your link is given priority for visits (this is DYK after all). Example: "... that Wilf Pine, the manager of Black Sabbath, had his arm dislocated by a vibrating bed because Ozzy Osbourne kept feeding it quarters?" Let's also remember that the source says that Ozzy fed the machine 15 quarters (going from memory, I think that's what it says). In that era, each quarter gave you 15 minutes, which means Wilf Pine was subjected to 225 minutes (3 hours and 45 minutes) of vibration. This means you also have an opportunity to create an uproariously comedic hook, provided it adheres to the source. Although it doesn't say that each quarter equals 15 minutes, that's how it worked, and given we know the number of quarters used from the source, there should be a way to create a hook that meets WP:CALC. I don't usually make use of CALC in my hooks, but I know that User:Launchballer does, so I'm going to ping them for advice here. Viriditas (talk) 22:46, 10 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I've amended and shortened the hooks per your comments, and removed the bed link both here and in the article. I've added your hook as ALT0c. Ericoides (talk) 06:21, 11 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I've now removed all the links except the one to the subject himself. Ericoides (talk) 05:55, 20 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Joseph Gruet ("Etienne Buislay"), who had flown with James Allen during that aeronaut's short stay in the city, died, it will be recalled, in a [balloon accident]...on October 11,1874...[he became] tangled in some dangling lines [and] fell onto the rocks of Bernal Heights...he died several days later." Additional note: Amateur historian Woody LaBounty provides a unified account of both on his "San Francisco Story" blog, which is a great read, but has a lot of unusual info that appears to diverge from all the other sources, such as his claim that Étienne Buislay is someone else entirely. I suspect these are just simple errors, not an alternative theory. Final note: For some reason, most of these sources refer to the balloon as a hot-air balloon rather than the gas balloon that it is. I don't understand this error, especially coming from aviation historian Tom D. Crouch. Perhaps the term "hot air balloon" is shorthand for all balloons, gas or otherwise?

@Aneirinn: Thanks for the review and your kind words. In response to your query, I have added page numbers for Shields (2006) and Kuntz (2022). However, Shields (2014) is a rare book that only exists in print form and I don't have access to it. Booksellers are asking US $200-300 online for it. I was linking to it solely as an example of the exhibition catalog. To clarify, I have converted it to a bundled citation with two additional sources which are online, Shields & Chalmers (2014) and Reynolds (2014), which supports the same info. • The proposed hook is demonstrably false. The source is only saying that it's the first Lulu pop-up store in Thailand, and it's a press release and wouldn't be adequate for such claims anyway. Indeed, the article is cited only to primary sources and press releases; it will need references to independent reliable sources to show notability. The article is missing an important contextual link to art toy in the opening sentence, and the "Characteristic" section fails to frame the description in a real-world perspective. The image copyright might be an issue, as it appears to be a temporary rather than permanent installation so it's unclear whether FOP actually applies. A QPQ review is also needed, as nominator has more than 5 DYKs under another account. Other than that, article is new and long enough. I'm going to fail this as the article needs significant rewriting to properly present the subject's real-world significance, not just its marketing material. --Paul_012 (talk) 07:35, 1 July 2025 (UTC), updated 09:27, 1 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Narutolovehinata5: Surely a character returning to a show after 27 years is interesting? I reworded it slightly now. DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 23:45, 19 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It is, it's just that I think a better wording could be proposed that would not be reliant on knowledge of EastEnders. I also suspect that "Episode 6994" would turn off readers, so a possible wording could involve piping it without naming the episode by name in the hook. Maybe someone like Sammi Brie could help with that? Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 23:48, 19 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    • The article is expanded five times and is free of copyright violations. QPQ has been done, and the hook is interesting. However, there is an issue. Upon looking at the sources that you provided, there was a conflicting year when Rogoyawa saw the snow for the first time. According to Ledger-Enquirer and Calgary Herald, the year was 1982, while The Baltimore Sun stated that it was in 1983. Can you address this issue? After that, the hook can be promoted. @BarntToust: I've taken the liberty of moving the hooks on that page to this one. For what it's worth, I read the article after seeing it at WP:GARC and the bit about the gold script stuck out; I therefore propose ALT7: ... that a cast member's script for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 cost $100,000 to print?--Launchballer 21:49, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
User:Launchballer I prefer main. Provocative beats impressive in my mind. BarntToust 22:14, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
And mainly because of the fact there's one opportunity to give the idea of Latinas being Shadow's thing a chance to show up on the main page. I could see Jeff Fowler going to GA rather easily and getting a dyk with the concept of him giving the script, and if Jim Carrey were to get to GA, a DYK could be produced of him receiving the script. No other relevant, notable articles for Latina—Shadow business to be included in. BarntToust 22:20, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I think that the idea of Latinas in the DYK is best because of its genuine uniqueness to this article. Jim Carrey's costly script, I can think of two other places where that would work.

...that a script for a Jim Carrey movie cost $100k to print?

that... it cost Jeff Fowler $100k to print a script for Jim Carrey?

On that note, it is impossible to include anything, period, on Shadow the Hedgehog's DYK because it's already a good article. Only other place where anything about Latinas could be written. That's my standpoint, considering the opportunity and uniqueness of Shadow liking Latinas. BarntToust 22:30, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Remezcla

Above is a more concise submission that I'd like to put as final for my viewpoint. BarntToust 22:37, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    • The way this is framed now feels like it'd fall afoul of WP:DYKFICTION. I think that the other issue with this hook, both the original and revised versions, is that it doesn't meet WP:DYKINT- someone with no special knowledge of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise won't necessarily know who Shadow the Hedgehog is, or why it would be interesting or unusual if he loved Latinas. The idea of Jim Carrey getting a gold script to reprise his role, though, is more likely to be perceived as generally unusual and novel even if someone has never heard of Sonic before. silviaASH (inquire within) 23:00, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
... that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 makes its character Shadow love Latinas because the film's director wanted an homage to Sonic fandom shitposting?
There we go, this one technically works within DYKFICTION. But I see where the 100k gold script part falls much more securely within the lines. I'd be chill with either one, be it this one or ALT 7 though given this explanation. BarntToust 23:05, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Well first off the hood needs a link to the actual article! Looking it over, and some of the external pages, I think this is reasonable article. My only concern is the cites - there's plenty of them but most of them point back to GitHub or similar. There are some reasonable mentions in 3rd party papers (basically the second half of the cite list) but there's also a fair number of passing mentions. As always I err on the side of inclusion, so if anyone agrees this passes, the issue is the hook. This seems reasonably hooky: Maury Markowitz (talk) 12:25, 28 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
ALT1: ... that the Xeokit software development kit is used to build browser-based programs that can view detailed 3D architectural models (pictured) on the web?
That still seems a bit too technical or at least specialist. Is there a way to make it more layperson or non-techy friendly? Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 06:04, 29 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm going to disagree with that. The reader has to know what the web is and what a browser is, and I would wager that the average reader what architecture is, and what a 3d model is. They may not know what a software development kit is, but I think they can figure that out from the term itself. This does not seem overly technical or in-universe to me, but YMMV. Maury Markowitz (talk) 23:59, 1 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The layperson probably thinks of "browser" as being like Chrome or Safari (i.e. a web browser), and it's not clear from the hook that it's talking about that. Of course, it could just be because it's full of techy-sounding terms, which muddles the waters somewhat. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 00:16, 2 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I think we can safely add "web" to the "browser" bit instead of the end, and I don't think we need SDK, so how's this? Maury Markowitz (talk) 16:43, 2 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    • Article is new enough and long enough. One image (File:Samuel Spier Mayerberg 1960 alt.jpg): the source website says this is PD, but I'm not sure how that's possible given that they also say the author is unknown and that it was created in 1960 -- unless there's some special consideration in play, like the author being an employee of the US Government, a work from that date must still be in copyright. No other concerns regarding copyvio, BLP, plagiarism or similar. I'm not convinced about some of the sourcing: this website, for instance, seems to be used to support a date -- what makes it a reliable source? Similarly, one much-used source is local news, which is dicey per WP:RS. More subjectively, I'd like to see a couple of spit-and-polish tweaks before it hits the main page -- for example, is it normal to refer to a Jewish religious group as a "church"? UndercoverClassicist T·C 18:45, 30 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
      • @UndercoverClassicist: Removed this source; it was a local source from University Academy public school, but I couldn't find any further backing of its reliability. Fixed "church" issue, changed for congregation. Picture is from Harry S. Truman Library, which is federally-ran, so a government employee is extremely likely to have taken the picture.
        • Hm -- I'm not convinced here. A library is a collection of records and documents; it's very unusual for a library not to include materials relevant to its subject made by people to whom it has no relation. Likewise, it's very common for online repositories of this sort to mark media as "public domain" to indicate that they don't know of any copyright, which isn't good enough for us -- we need to be positively sure that no copyright exists. I agree that it's reasonably likely that a government employee took it, but if the source isn't even willing to say that (never mind give a name), I don't think we can use such an assumption as the basis of a PD claim. However, the image would certainly be amenable to an FUR. UndercoverClassicist T·C 20:55, 30 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
        • @UndercoverClassicist: If the picture is questionable, I don’t think a FUR would be possible, because Samuel S. Mayerberg.jpg on Commons also exists, and is lifted from tne Library of Congress. Though, if that also has similar problems, a FUR could be done. Roast (talk) 20:22, 1 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
          • File:Samuel S. Mayerberg.jpg doesn't have a US PD tag, and almost certainly isn't PD in the United States, for similar reasons to the article image. Perhaps you could ask about both images on Commons and see what the view is there? UndercoverClassicist T·C 20:28, 1 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
            • @UndercoverClassicist: So given the Wikimedia Commons discussion is going no where, I’d suggest deleting the pictures from Commons to ensure the DYK passes then worry about a non-free alternative in the in-between time of accepting and its appearence on the front page. Though, I'm unsure how to delete files on Commons, and need help with that. Roast (talk) 16:46, 2 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
              • The conversation on Commons has had less than a day; that's very early to be calling it stalled. Indeed, it's been less than 12 hours since I posted the explanation of what exactly the question was. It wouldn't be necessary to delete the images from Commons to get this DYK through, and I wouldn't recommend opening a deletion request there unless there's a positive reason to believe the images are in copyright (however, to use them in a DYK/GA etc, we need a positive case that they're not copyrighted).

UndercoverClassicist T·C 16:53, 2 July 2025 (UTC) Local source is from the Kansas City Public Library, which itself cites other newspapers and books, and such should be given the same verdict as the Dictionary of Missouri Biography source—both of which have a citation im common. • @Arconning: Copyright, interestingness, hook verification, spotcheck, QPQ, 5x expansion all check out. That being said, I've got two issues: first, I don't know if we've got her middle name correct. It's used on Olympedia, yes, but almost nowhere else.[29] Looking at newspaper articles from the time, as well as this post made by the university she taught at[30] (same image as the one Klitzkie provided to the Coloradoan), and they use the middle name Palomo. From looking at older Guam newspapers, I think that's her maiden name, but she appears to use it as her middle name (Maybe she was born Lourdes Mendiola Palomo, but dropped Mendiola upon her marriage to Bob Klitzkie?) Can you look into that?
Similarly, on DYKCOMPLETE, it's missing a bit of info about her life and previous career, namely, that she was a professor. I found a couple newspaper articles either about her or that mention her and might be usable, [31][32][33][34], and local person/human interest story about her education from before her time at the Olympics [35]. But yeah, post-Olympics she became a Professor Emeritus at the University of Guam [36] so the article probably needs to at least reference that for DYKCOMPLETE. That will help with my third thing too; although the article is technically long enough without quotes, if somebody copyedits this it could easily go under the minimum length. Adding information about her academic achievements should mitigate that risk. But apart from that, interesting article on an interesting person, well done! While it could be expanded more, it has information about the coronation, the possibility of previous royal visits, the amount of people going to see her, stamps, a commemorative medal and the Royal Visit Honours. WP:DYKCOMPLETE lists things such as empty sections and an article about a book that discusses the author but not the contents of the book. I'm really sorry to be bitter like this, but I cannot see the problem with this article's completeness for DYK and I won't be expanding it. ―Panamitsu (talk)

    • article was recently created, long enough, and within policy. QPQ isn't required. Regarding the hook, I don't find this as interesting, mostly because it relies on word play and not necessarily an interesting fact about the article. This is sometimes relaxed for April fools, but otherwise I don't see it as interesting enough. That said, would you consider:
    ALT1: that "the Psycho" controlled the drug trade in Dublin's north-western suburbs in the 1990s? « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 02:22, 10 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Gonzo fan2007 and Ser!: I'm not sure if this hook can work as written; "controlled the drug trade ... in the 1990s" seems misleading when he died in 1996. While it takes away some of the shortness of the hook, but:
ALT1a: ... that from the early 1990s until his death in 1996, "the Psycho" controlled the drug trade in Dublin's north-western suburbs?

@Gonzo fan2007 and Ser!: actually, sorry, I'm going to be a stickler again: both the wiki article and source state "Finglas, Cabra and Ballymun" but do not describe them as Dublin's north-western suburbs. While this may be true, it should be sourced; and the hook makes it sound like he controlled the drug trade in all of the northwest suburbs, rather than the three specifically names. Unfortunately it makes a less pithy hook, but
ALT1b: ... that from the early 1990s until his death in 1996, "the Psycho" controlled the drug trade in Finglas, Cabra and Ballymun?
may be the way to go unless you have a different source. ~Darth StabroTalk • Contribs 21:28, 14 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    • Thank you for joining DYK, Medievalfran. The article is new and looks fairly comprehensive given the coverage, but I am afraid that there are some issues with this nomination. Several paragraphs are missing citations. The hooks are missing wikilinks, but that much is easily sorted. The two greater problems with the original hook is that it is not quite supported in the article and that it is not exactly interesting. I had never heard of a National Union of Students Executive Committee. Frankly, being a first black woman member of it does not sound like much. ALT1 is only slightly better. I suppose something could be done with the Trinidadan television transmission thing, but it is not mentioned in the cited source (which is an issue of its own). • Z1720 Thank you both for your follow-up. I will add citations for missing paragraphs asap. I am not sure how to address the comment, "The two greater problems with the original hook is that it is not quite supported in the article and that it is not exactly interesting. I had never heard of a National Union of Students Executive Committee. Frankly, being a first black woman member of it does not sound like much.". I myself am Black British and find it SHOCKING that Andrea Enisuoh could be the first Black British woman to join the National Union of Students Executive Committee. It would not matter to me that I did not know of the National Union of Students Executive committee was.I would understand thatnthe organisation is a national union aka a big deal and "should" be at the forefront of progressive thought and practices. What this DYK illuminates is that contemporary intersectional systems of oppression are alive and well in London and that advocacy efforts are never-ending and must be continuously maintained, with much work to do. If I was to see this DYK, I, as a reader, would be inspired to double-up my engagement and participation in local community efforts, understanding that all efforts towards peaceful living matter greatly and that it is often mothers leading the charge.

    • New enough in mainspace and long enough. Nominator is QPQ-exempt. I don't think the hook works: it's puffery and unattributed. (The discography does not need a citation, though the detail on the labels and versions is probably excessive.) Look for a different fact, I&I22; I don't think this would be allowed to stand unless attributed to someone reasonably well-known. Sammi Brie (she/her · t · c) 18:58, 6 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Sammi Brie - i don't really understand what you are saying here. Do you mean to express that Marc Mac is not well known? this is not true and a wildly unsubstantiated statement. it is not at all "puffery and unattributed" where did you get that? why would i bother even making the article if he wasn't an important yet overlooked piece of music history - he is well known as a pioneering artist of jungle and d'n b.if you do a little research it is easy to see this. i have no idea what qpg is but i will look it up thank you and figure out citations etc. also i don't understand speaking like this to ppl volunteering their sweet irreplacable time and learning the ropes on wikipedia, "Look for a different fact,". i get it - directness and all that i - i don't mind directness - but it seems a bit abrasive. Anyways, maybe i just have misunderstood you? and am making assumptions as have often encountered aggressive, condescending, unkind, rude, assumptive, suspicious or impatient-sounding comments from other more experienced editors when i have made some newbie error. alrightee i am not on here to bicker but it is fun when the convo is more respectful especially when putting in the time to learn and participate. thanks again and will look into it — Preceding unsigned comment added by I&I22 (talkcontribs) 20:27, 6 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@I&I22: Please read WP:PUFFERY for more context. Generally speaking, Wikipedia wants to avoid subjective words like "pioneering" in articles, especially without proper attribution. It's more of a case of show than tell, i.e. show how the person is "pioneering", rather than saying they are so. Regarding the "well-known" thing, I think Sammi was talking about a reviewer or source that says Mac is "pioneering", rather than claiming that Mac is not well-known. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 00:10, 10 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Narutolovehinata5: I see. Thank you for the puffery reference. On my end I understand the word pioneering differently, less promotional I suppose. I am on a bit of a break from Wikipedia. Can either of you let me know if there is a deadline for the updates? Much thanks I&I22 (talk) 05:54, 10 July 2025 (UTC)I&I22[reply]

      • Narutolovehinata5 is right. To make a claim like that requires appropriate backup, and big claims require lots of proof. That's a big claim. I'd be more than happy to help, but that's an important principle for editors to grasp. This sentence, for instance, has no reason to be there because it sounds so promotional: Reinforced Records has supported new musical genres and emerging artists, pioneering the sounds of 90's British dance music scene through mentorship, networking opportunities, collaboration and music production. Sammi Brie (she/her · t · c) 05:38, 10 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Sammi Brie: ok, great that is helpful to know. Yes there are many sources to cite. I can't remember what I wrote before, but I cited many academic references on his article. I have changed the dyk question, does that read better - in keeping with Wikimedia protocols? Marc Mac is in the main reference books for edm particularly British ones. He and his group members coached Goldie in crafting/translating his sonic visions for Goldie's epic masterpiece Timeless. Their label Reinforced Records mentored and supported many essential UK edm producers. As this artist seems to have shied away from promos due to racial unrest which led to family tragedies perhaps - they have kept a behind the scene profile but they are an essential part of British culture and mentioned often in Wikipedia so found it was important to mention them and provide a more accurate context for the other article mentions. I appreciate the support and guidance as i fail my way to greater understanding. I do not understand the Wikipedia culture completely yet and am duty-bound to represent the underacknowledged cultural contributions of BIPOC folx.:)

@Narutolovehinata5: Hello! I have no idea how to format my changes...I have edited directly into the code...does this work with these kinds of DYK projects? I understand now that my question was way too mundane!

Hello! I have gone throught and improved all but two of the citations in the article. Now for the blogs and self published sources. In "The Railway Museum Blog", the term "blog" in the name is somewhat misleading. It's a website from the National Railway Museum in the UK, and is mostly devoted to news relating to, well, railway and museum things. The Elephant Database is indeed a self-published blog, but the only website I can find that officially says that Lizzie's birthdate in unknown. Most websites just don't mention her birth. • Excellent article, Gog the Mild. Thank you. It is long enough and impeccably sourced. I do not see any copyright issues. I am puzzled by the scope of this article versus the scope of Initial campaign of the Breton Civil War, however. This article covers May 1341 – 19 January 1343, while the other covers May 1341 – February 1342 of the same conflict. For that reason I find it difficult to discern how much of the content of this article can be considered "new" for DYK purposes per WP:DYKLEN. Surtsicna (talk) 10:35, 7 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Surtsicna and thanks for picking up the nomination. This is an overview article. It is the lead article of this topic. (Once I have sorted Vannes it will be going to WP:FGTC.) In a similar way, Roman invasion of Africa (204–201 BC) is the lead article of the topic of the same name which was promoted to FT last month. Breton Civil War, 1341–1343 is aimed at readers who want an overview of the period when royal armies were clashing and things seemed to be building to a climax, but without reading through seven articles with their overlap. The climax then never happened, which is kind of the point. Obviously there will be a degree of overlap between this article and each of the seven sub-articles - especially for their backgrounds and aftermaths - that also is kind of the point.
I am unsure to what extent any of this addresses your concerns, but hopefully you will let me know. Gog the Mild (talk) 14:01, 7 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
If I understand you correctly, Gog the Mild, your intention is for Breton Civil War, 1341–1343 to have seven sub-articles, one of which is Initial campaign of the Breton Civil War. And then Breton Civil War, 1341–1343 is itself a sub-article of Breton Civil War, right? I do not know how to treat this overlap for the purposes of DYK's newness criterion, but I am very much inclined to pass the nomination because of its sheer quality. Surtsicna (talk) 18:33, 8 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Surtsicna. Yes, you understand correctly. (See here for a slightly more complicated example. (Itself a sub-article of Hundred Years' War, 1337–1360; in turn a sub-article of Hundred Years' War; and in its turn a sub-article of Anglo-French Wars!) Breton Civil War should look something like that when completed.) I am unsure how to deal with the overlap for DYK. In theory I could go through all 8 articles hand sorting non-overlapping words to see if they get over the threshold. Except I have a life. For what it is worth this has not come up before at DYK as a problem in my 7 or 8 similar previous examples, including two last month. Regarding your bias towards quality, may I commend you for it and urge you to follow your instinct. Time to IAR? Gog the Mild (talk) 19:51, 8 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, sir. Time to IAR! If anyone objects, well - the article is due for a GA nomination anyway. Surtsicna (talk) 20:40, 8 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

        • @BD2412: Regarding the difficulty of finding the Gates quote: the reason you can't find it is because it doesn't appear in the 7th or the 8th editions of the book (but it might appear on the front or back cover, likely the back). Prior to the 7th, the book was simply titled Vaccines (6th ed.) The original foreword by Gates in that edition was located on p. ix, and that's where you will find the quote.[46] As you can see, the original quote refers to the original title, not the new one. So when they came out with the 7th, they removed the quote in its entirety because the title had changed to Plotkin's Vaccines (and nobody wants to mess with a quote by Bill Gates). From then on, they continued to use the part of the quote without mentioning the old title as a blurb instead, likely on the back cover. If you really want to link to the original quote, you can cite the 6th ed. and p. ix. Or if you know for certain the quote is on the back cover of the 7th or 8th ed. you can link to "back cover". The question then becomes, did the Gates quote first appear in the 6th ed. or before? I don't know, but if you want to get that detailed in the future ("Bill Gates wrote a foreword for the x edition...") you can, but it's probably not necessary at the moment. Just wanted to solve your "page number needed" issue. Viriditas (talk) 19:56, 8 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
          • I could cite IAVI as a secondary source for that proposition. BD2412 T 20:15, 8 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
            • Whatever works for you. FYI... I just confirmed that the foreword was written for the 6th edition in 2013. You can look at the 5th edition here. Also, if you look at the cover of the 6th edition I linked to up above, it is advertised as "foreword by Bill Gates" for the first time, so the quote originated in 2013 in a foreword for the 6th edition. Overall: Article is new enough, was moved from draft space, and is long enough. Content and hook are both sourced, free from plagiarism, and interesting. Now for the pre-Festivus sharing of grievances: 1) Structure. I expected Arabic numerals or Roman numerals to describe the structure, not bullets. Perhaps I'm not used to it and bullets work better? 2) The hook is quite long at 187 chars, and you've got your main blue link to your article third, which will decrease views. You can move it to the front and shorten the hook with something like "... that Plotkin's Vaccines was written by rubella vaccine inventor Stanley Plotkin after he identified vaccinology as a distinct field of medicine?" or some other variation along those same lines. Maybe play around with some alts. Also, I believe this same info is sourced in other places if someone objects to using an interview as a source. I think I just saw the same material in his own textbook. Passing as I think it meets the criteria, but concerns noted up above. Viriditas (talk) 21:40, 8 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

ALT1 ...that French pilot Joseph Frantz won the Legion of Honour for his actions on 5 October 1914? same source. Moondragon21 (talk) 17:14, 14 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Better, but I have some reservations since it's more about Frantz than the event. I'll let a reviewer decide. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 04:23, 15 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
    QPQ: Done.

Overall: Article created 6 July 2025, nominated for DYK on 7 July 2025 and is of sufficient length at 2817 characters. Earwig comes up as 20.6%. Both hooks are supported, however I find ALT0 more interesting. Good article which increased my knowledge of early Australia. TarnishedPathtalk 10:59, 8 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    • Each new enough, long enough, and adequately sourced. Three QPQs done, as needed. Earwig's copyvio checks were squeaky clean. I'm a little concerned about ALT1: the source states that Geoffrey was skilled in Greek (and that this was unusual for clergy) but that is not the same as saying that the others knew no Greek. The same source, visible through Google Books, verifies the other hooks. I prefer ALT0 to ALT2 but both are within rules and that decision can be up to whoever prepares the set. Good to go with ALT0 or ALT2. —David Eppstein (talk) 07:02, 18 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, David Eppstein. I see no practical difference here, but we can always say "skilled in Greek" instead of "spoke Greek".
    • ALT1a: ... that Bishop Anselm, Abbot Geoffrey, and Viscount Rohard were sent on a delicate mission to the Greek emperor–but only one of them was skilled in Greek?
Let that be the third option should there be complaints about ALT0 and ALT2. Thank you for the review! Surtsicna (talk) 09:21, 18 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    • Taking a look at this article. Length - 5172 characters total, reasonable. Each source is carefully cited and free of plagiarism (one line is a direct quotation from the article). The sources themselves do check out and is free of bias. I recommend using ALT1 as the lead, because that makes the fire station a significant piece of work for women's history, it falls in line with the objectives of the WikiProject Women in Red initiative. I think this is a nicely written piece overall. I give it a in my book. NeverBeGameOver (talk) 21:15, 10 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I'm also not sure if the article meets WP:DYKCOMPLETE given the complete lack of any personal information, including about her early life. If no sourcing about that can be found, then perhaps we could let that pass, but still. The article itself is rather light on details in general, but I guess the hookiest part is this:
ALT1.5 ... that when former girl group member Montana Manning appeared on the soap Hollyoaks, she did not want to sing as she wanted to keep her music and acting careers separate?
That's admittedly not really all that unusual in entertainment since plenty of singer-actors keep both careers separate, but this is the hookiest hook I could come up with. Maybe the article just isn't a good fit for DYK. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 00:17, 10 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, I could not find any personal details. My biographies are usually extremely detailed and have a lot of info but there were a lack of sources for her, although she does meet the notability criteria. I personally believed that both hooks I proposed were interesting as it is not usual for actors to go on girl groups or want to not sing in television parts. I like how @Narutolovehinata5: has changed Hook ALT1 and I am in support of that wording. I will have another look to see if I find anymore sources - I did various thorough searches before but maybe I will get lucky... DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 04:46, 10 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Narutolovehinata5: @Aneirinn: Luckily, I was about able to find an interview with her and expanded the article with more early life/personal life information and have proposed 3 more hooks. Pinging @Narutolovehinata5: @Aneirinn: in case you did not see the above DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 12:43, 17 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thinking about this, ALT3 might be the most interesting option, but the hook as currently written is vague: it's talking about Smith not swearing in his movies, but the hook could easily be misinterpreted to mean that Manning appeared in Smith's movies and also did not swear in them. ALT2 is a possible backup option due to "reader may wonder why" reasons, while I don't see ALT4 as particularly unusual or interesting. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 08:11, 18 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    Pinging @Narutolovehinata5: I have altered AL3 :) DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 12:18, 18 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    • Hi CosXZ, review follows: short article but for an aircraft of limited production and use; it has passed GA review on 7 July; sources are all offline but I have confirmed existence of the subject in Jane's Encyclopedia of Aviation of 1980; hooks are interesting and mentioned in the article; will need to AGF that there is no copying from offline sources, the Earwig online checker is clear; hooks are fun enough for April Fool's Day, if needed. I do wonder if it should be "had" rather than "have" as the article doesn't say if any samples survive, but will leave that to the promoter - Dumelow (talk) 08:02, 8 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know if there's anything else in the article that's quite as hooky/would inspire as many clicks (which is of secondary importance) that isn't related to her disappearance, which I think would be even worse, but I'll go ahead and add some alts.
