The Graphics Lab is a project to improve the graphical content of the Wikimedia projects. Requests for image improvements can be added to the workshop pages: Illustrations, Photographs and Maps. For questions or suggestions one can use the talk pages: Talk:Graphics Lab, Talk:Illustrations, Talk:Photographs and Talk:Maps.
This specific page is the requests page for the illustration workshop. Anyone can make a request for an illustration to be improved or created for a Wikipedia article. Clicking the "New Request" button will bring you to a standard template for submitting requests, as well as general advice that should be followed.

    Advice to requesters

    All requests:

    • Please make sure your request is "legitimate" by copyright. If the image(s) are in the public domain or freely licensed, you are fine. If the image(s) are "Fair use", there are only certain things we can do with them without falling afoul of Wikipedia's fair-use policies.
      • If you are requesting assistance with a copyright or fair-use image, don't display it on this page; place {{GLNF|Example.png|caption|align=left}} to create a link to it. Do not add the File: extension. Our fair-use policy does not allow displaying fair-use images out of their articles on ANY account.
    • Please check back regularly to see if progress has been made or if any additional questions need to be answered before the request can be completed.
    • If a request is done to your satisfaction, please mark it with {{resolved}}.

    SVG requests:

    • Make sure your request can actually BE vectorized. Note that vector drawings are not suitable for certain applications. We generally use SVG format for icons, logos, drawings, maps, flags, and such. Certain things, photographs especially, are totally impossible to vectorize.
    • Per our non-free content policy, vectorization of copyrighted images is not permitted. If a vectorized non-free image is desired, seek out such an image from the copyright holder.

Royal Standard plus Flag of Gwynedd

Article(s): List of British Flags, Royal Standard of the United Kingdom

    Request:

Create a new file by replacing the three lions in the bottom right quarter of the Royal standard with the Flag of Gwynedd (I saw this on a BBC Wales talk show, it was a proposed new design to give Wales a place on the standard). --154.50.194.130 (talk)

    1968 Baton Rouge flag

Article(s): Flag of Baton Rouge, Louisiana

    Request:

Create an SVG file of the 1968 adopted flag of Baton Rouge. The background of the flag is green, symbolizing the growth, vitality and fertility of the land. The center emblem is a shield of white on which the colors red, blue and yellow are used. On the upper part of the shield is a crown in remembrance of the rule of Spain, France and England. The castille and lion of Spain are depicted as are fleurs de lis and a representation of the Red Stick for which Baton Rouge was named. A banner below the shield states: Founded 1721; Capital City of the Mississippi; Incorporated 1917. This flag can be found at http://ref-raff.wikispaces.com/Baton+Rouge+-+City+Flag

Judiciary of New York new diagram request

    Article(s): Judiciary of New York

    Request:

I would like to request a diagram (illustration) of the organizational structure of the New York Unified Court System. The topic was recently on reddit.com/r/Law as a meme: its complicated enough that I think only a diagram will "give a clear picture". I would say understanding New York's legal system is an important societal issue that affects alot of people, and this will help tremendously. It would be great if it was as simple and pretty as possible (and would fit well as a small image within these type articles) so we could use it as a template for similar pages to replace diagrams like File:Organisation juridictionnelle nationale fr.gif which is not that great. Something simple like File:Organigrama eu 01.svg would do just fine, preferably with simple enough SVG I could manually edit colors and such. Pretty please and thank you! -- Int21h (talk) 03:41, 31 May 2013 (UTC) Int21h (talk) 03:58, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Graph of numerical evidence for abc conjecture

    Article(s): abc conjecture

    Request:

I thought it would be nice to illustrate the numerical evidence for abc as we do for Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer (see above). Since abc predicts there are only a finite number of abc triplets with q > 1, my suggestion is to use the computational results (see [1]) and plot the ratio of q > 1 triplets within a particular range of c (i.e., 6100, 311000, 12010000, ... 14,482,0651018), which should be a curve that approaches zero. Maybe one could also include the other triplets (q > 1.05, q > 1.1, ...). -- bender235 (talk) 13:29, 7 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    Graphist opinion(s):

I'm not sure this is helpful. The conjecture is that a set is finite; it's very difficult to distinguish this on a plot from a set that is very sparse, especially if you are also plotting a lot of points that are not in the set. In contrast, for the BSD example you give (1) the plot concerns the growth rate of a function (the number of solutions mod each prime), something that this sort of plot is better for, and (2) plots like this one played a documented role in the formulation of the conjecture. But it's hard to judge without seeing a picture. —David Eppstein (talk) 15:51, 9 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    Cree flags

Can anyone finalize vectorization of this file? Source is here, I used Vector Magic. Hosmich (talk) 16:57, 10 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

And I decided to vectorize another Cree flag too. Source images are here, here and here. I vectorized the head as these files, but I am not certain about proportions of the flag. Can anyone finalize it and then upload as "Cree flag.svg"? Thank you. Hosmich (talk) 08:36, 12 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I write once more about a Cree flag. I vectorized flag of Innu as this file. But I got a message that this file is bad. Better is this flag. Could someone vectorize it? I am not willing to do it this time. Thank you. Hosmich (talk) 09:24, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    LaF3 structure cartoon

Looking for a diagram that shows the local coordination environment in the LaF3 structure. Exact bond lengths not critical since it is a generalization. Just want something diagrammatic and clear, to go along with a discussion. See Figure 3.3.TCO (talk) 17:51, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Improve graphics on symmetry (should be easy if you know geometry well)

    Article(s): [[2]]

Request: This is about the basic illustrations of mirror symmetry and rotoreflection.
Skills needed to improve the illustration: good understanding of basic geometry and symmetry (I have this for mirror symmetry; not so good for rotoreflection); good tools for basic vector drawing, knowing how to get that to show up properly, etc. (I don't have this).
It seems to me that this illustration would be more useful to readers if the basic triangles, which are described as "isoceles", weren't also equilateral. The triangles look pretty equilateral to me! An isoceles triangle, in general, has 1 line (axis) of symmetry. But an equilateral triangle has 3 lines of symmetry, although the drawing only indicates 1. -- Oaklandguy (talk) 19:03, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
