Articles for Creation backlog drive

[edit]

Hello Samoht27:

WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive in June!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than 1 month of outstanding reviews from the current 3+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 June 2025 through 30 June 2025.

You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.

Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.
There is a backlog of over 3200 pages, so start reviewing drafts. We're looking forward to your help! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:25, 20 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Seeking final input on PuppySpot draft & notability

[edit]

Hi @Samoht27! I’m following up on the PuppySpot draft you previously reviewed. I recently posted a message on the draft’s Talk page to ask for final input, since there’s still no clear consensus about whether the subject meets notability guidelines. The language has been revised for neutrality, and the cited sources are the best available—there’s no opportunity to improve them further.

If you're willing to offer a final opinion, it would really help clarify whether the draft should move forward or be set aside. You're welcome to reply here or on the draft Talk page — either is appreciated. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft_talk:PuppySpot

Thanks again for all your time and feedback so far. SBCornelius (talk) 16:47, 4 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I apologize for my late response, I believe this likely meets notability, and the used sources do satisfy WP:GNG -Samoht27 (talk) 19:02, 10 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Resources

[edit]

Hi there. My draft was declined do to needing more resources. I'm having trouble uploading them, any suggestions? Here is the declined link: Draft:Laura Barbato Twelve83Entertainment (talk) 22:56, 16 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The Developing Countries WikiContest Gold Belt Buckle
The Developing Countries WikiContest Gold Belt Buckle

Hey Samoht27, the Developing Countries WikiContest will be returning for a second year, and sign-ups are now open! The contest will run from 1 July to 30 September, and the objective remains the same: improve as many articles relating to developing countries as you can to help fight systemic bias on Wikipedia.

In other news, we have a new face on the coordinator team this year: last year's sixth-place finisher, Arconning (talk · contribs)! The coordinators would like to extend a sincere thanks to Ixtal (talk · contribs), who is leaving the team, without whom the contest would not exist. After feedback from contestants last year, the scoring rules are undergoing some modifications; the new rules and a summary of the changes made will be posted to the contest talk page shortly.

If you have any questions, please leave a message on the contest talk page or contact one of the coordinators: Arconning (talk · contribs), sawyer777 (talk · contribs), or TechnoSquirrel69 (talk · contribs). Reject AIPAC Draft

[edit]

Hello @Samoht27, Thank you for reviewing my draft. I have re-worded and restructured the article, and especially have used language similar to the AIPAC article (e.g. "AIPAC is a pro-Israel lobbying group that advocates its policies to the legislative and executive branches of the US" vs "The coalition advocates for candidates for federal office to not take endorsements or contributions from AIPAC and its affiliated political action committees.") Please could you advise if there are any further issues with the draft, or if not, it can be approved? Thank you very much. The draft is here: Draft:Reject_AIPAC Sideriver84 (talk) 17:32, 20 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

June Backlog Drive is almost over!

[edit]
Our pending drafts!

Hi! Thanks for participating in the Articles for Creation June Backlog Drive! We've done amazing work so far, dropping the backlog by more than 2000 drafts already. We have around 2700 drafts outstanding, and we need your help to get that down to zero in 5 days. We can do this, but we need all hands on deck to make this happen. A list of the pending drafts can be found at WP:AFCSORT, where you can select submissions in your area of interest. Thank you so much for your work so far, and happy reviewing! – DreamRimmer 01:34, 25 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The DCWC is open!

See a    "developing" or    "least developed" country? Write about it to earn points!

Samoht27, for the second running of the Developing Countries WikiContest, it is now open for submissions. The coordinators have addressed some of the queries at the last contest and we are hopeful that it'll turn out great! If you haven't done so already, please review the following:

On behalf of the coordinators, we hope you enjoy participating and wish you the best of luck! Response to Notability Concern

[edit]

Onewikiuoser (talk) 19:57, 8 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I think this topic is likely notable, but maybe it would serve better as a larger article on the wider coffee culture of Iran? Something more similar to the Coffee in Japan or Coffee in Italy articles. Thank you for reaching out! -Samoht27 (talk) 20:34, 8 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Response to Notability Concern re 2021 Red Deer Municipal Elections

[edit]

Hi,

I am commenting because I've repeatedly tried to get the following draft article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:2021_Red_Deer_municipal_election published. I do not understand how the 2017, 2013, 2010, and 2007 Red Deer elections are fine to be their own articles but I am having such difficulty getting an article about the most recent election up. It is a city of 100,000 people and an article on it's municipal election surely must be relevant. The Mayor elected in this election has his own page but the election that put him into office cannot? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jamsohannson5 (talkcontribs) 01:40, 14 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I believe this article doesn't meet our notability requirements. I am going based off this guideline when I say this. The primary issue is that the article doesn't have sources outside of local reporting in Red Deer, which appears to fail this guideline which requires a diverse set of sources, not just reporting primarily concerned with what's happening in this city. While I agree with you that Red Deer is a large city and am aware that previous elections in the city have their own page, I do not see this as rationale for this page to exist without the proper sourcing being found. -Samoht27 (talk) 20:38, 14 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
What kind of sourcing would be needed? This is just confusing to me because there are dozens of municipal election pages with very little sourcing that exist. Why are the standards so varied? Jamsohannson5 (talk) 22:40, 14 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The standards aren't varied. Just because other articles exist that probably don't meet these standards doesn't mean this new article that also doesn't meet the standards should be accepted. If the other articles such as 2017 Red Deer municipal election or 2013 Red Deer municipal election were suggested at AfC, I wouldn't have accepted them either. I think this article has potential due to the size and relevance of the city, but we need sourcing that isn't routine local coverage. -Samoht27 (talk) 21:19, 16 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
On a side note I'd like to thank you for helping me out here. When it comes to non-local coverage would CTV/CBC/Global news articles about the election suffice? How extensively would their coverage need to be? Jamsohannson5 (talk) 17:11, 21 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
These would be good to have and meet the requirements. If the source can provide meaningful information than that source would be plenty extensive. Thank you for reaching out, and i'm glad to help you improve the article. -Samoht27 (talk) 16:02, 23 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I'm wondering if you think it would be a good idea to make one wikipedia page that has results for all of Red Deer's municipal elections, instead of seperate articles on each election. Would this be possible even if I could not find significant in-depth coverage for each election, if they were all together on one page? Jamsohannson5 (talk) 01:16, 24 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I think that would be the best course of action. -Samoht27 (talk) 20:15, 28 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

DCWC closing update

[edit]

Two weeks ago, the 2025 Developing Countries WikiContest came to a close! After three months of stiff competition at the top of the leaderboard, we have our winners. Bronze Belt Buckle – 3rd place vigilantcosmicpenguin (submissions), continuing his work on covering abortion in Africa, comes in third with 692 points. Silver Belt Buckle – 2nd place simongraham (submissions) comes in second with 763 points, largely from a slew of good articles about jumping spiders. And returning to the podium for the second year in a row, Gold Belt Buckle – 1st place Bosnia and Herzegovina BeanieFan11 (submissions) takes the Gold Belt Buckle with a mind-boggling 946 points from his series of articles on sportpersons. Congratulations to our winners!

Amazingly, the award for the most countries covered goes to both Bosnia and Herzegovina BeanieFan11 (submissions) and simongraham (submissions), who each submitted articles under 30 flags! Bosnia and Herzegovina BeanieFan11 (submissions) also wins for writing the most quality articles (16 good articles). For submitting 16 articles related to El Salvador, El Salvador PizzaKing13 (submissions) wins the award for most submissions under one country. The award for most submissions related to women goes to both Spookyaki (submissions) (7 biographies about women) and vigilantcosmicpenguin (submissions) (21 related articles). And for the second year, simongraham (submissions) wins for the most reviews, having submitted 21!

Among the participants' contributions were 2 FAs, 5 FLs, 124 GAs, and an uncounted number of DYKs, ITNs, and reviews of every kind! Regardless of your level of participation, every contestant can be proud to have contributed towards a major step in countering the systemic bias on Wikipedia. Every year, millions of readers and editors around the globe use Wikipedia to educate themselves and communicate with others about parts of the world that often receive less attention than they deserve. Thank you for participating with us in the contest and contributing to this effort. The DCWC will return next year, and we look forward to seeing you contribute again! However, before that...

We need your feedback! Join the conversation on the talk page to discuss your reflections on the contest (even if you didn't participate!) and help us make it better.

If you have any questions, please leave a message on the contest talk page or ask one of the coordinators: Arconning (talk · contribs), sawyer777 (talk · contribs), or TechnoSquirrel69 (talk · contribs). Request on 19:11:10, 21 October 2025 for assistance on AfC submission by Kavoshgar 1667

[edit]

Hi there, I have received contradictory comments from different reviewers. Arash Moayerian is a very well known Iranian Film maker with hundreds of reliable third-party sources such as newspapers and magazines with editorial insights for notability. I had provided these references in the actual draft in my first submission but I received a comment as WB:REFBOMB so, I moved some of them to the article talk page but I kept those of ones that are required as references in the actual draft. Now, I have been asked to return them back to the actual draft! I have been stocked in a closed loop and going nowhere. As I mentioned above, all required reliable third-party sources are already provided in the actual draft and the sources listed in the talk page are just provided as additional sources for notability matter. It would be appreciated to let me know how I can escalate this issue (Reviewer's Contradictory Comments) to wikipedia higher managers to solve it. Best regards,

Kavoshgar 1667 (talk) 19:11, 21 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
