Plant based doctors

Hi MaynardClark is there any plant-based doctors/physicians that you know of who do not have Wikipedia articles that you think would qualify for an article? I put a list on the WikiProject talk-page but many of those after deeper research would not qualify [1]. Dr. Joel Kahn I will be working on next. Psychologist Guy (talk) 00:56, 4 January 2022 (UTC)

I think of Robert M. Kradjian, MD, a breast cancer surgeon (Breast Surgery Chief, Division of General Surgery, Seton Medical Centre #302, 1800 Sullivan Ave. Daly City, CA 94015). I doubt that this 'The Milk Letter: A Message To My Patients' was from 2013. He incorporated his medical practice in 1974.[1][2][3][4] I remember seeing some of his 'grey literature' on this topic (circulated in the hospitals, I guess). The USE of what he wrote by others whose writing was not always scholarly may have tarnished his reputation (perhaps AFTER he dissolved his medical practice in 1996). Gary Null cited Dr. Kradjian on his health-oriented radio program from New York City.[5] Also, check out Dr. Kristi Funk and Dr. Susan Love[6], both breast cancer surgeons (who today are saying what Dr. Robert Kradjian had said decades before, and whose clinical research was provided a 'basic science' research base by T. Colin Campbell in one of his three eCornell online courses). "Dr Kristi Funk is a breast cancer surgeon in California who also treated celebrities like Angelina Jolie and Sheryl Crow."[7] I believe that, today, researchers of this persuasion are unclear which components of milk and/or dairy products are causal triggers (requires some differentiation, which research may be found unethical by IRBs if conducted with human beings). However, there are online sources that appear credible which dispute claims that any dairy products trigger cancerous growth, despite basic science studies in the carcinogenicity of casein.[8] But who IS that? Have you heard of them before 2020? It seems to be a private funding source. Contrasting 'natural explanations' have been known throughout the history of medical and other science. I will continue to look, but IMO the articles I have listed in the WikiProject are far more interesting to me and worthwhile for a historical view of plant-based diet belief and practice in America and in Western culture. You may wish to explore ALL the lifestyle medicine physicians, including a 'fast-rising star', Saray Stancic, MD, FACLM, the director of medical education for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine in Washington, D.C.[9] Articles by any of these three medical women would also qualify for the WikiProject Women, WikiProject Medicine, WikiProject Biology, WikiProject Science, WikiProject Women scientists in Wikipedia and the projects for their respective states and/or nations. MaynardClark (talk) 01:23, 4 January 2022 (UTC)

Let's order this:*

These are a quite few vegan MDs, and one could seek some 'direction' from PCRM. MaynardClark (talk) 02:20, 5 January 2022 (UTC)

Wyss Institute rewrite needs review

Hi MaynardClark,

I am working on the Wyss Institute article (I work for the Wyss Institute and have declared my COI).

Back in 2021 you argued that the article should be "built up not merged." The current article also has been flagged for other issues, including notability, lack of citations, and promotional language.

I've spent the past three months doing a fully researched rewrite based on published citations about the major scientific developments and philanthropic history at the Wyss.

The rewrite needs independent review from another editor who can make the call on replacing the current (admittedly very poor) draft with the new version.

Would you please take a look at it?

Although everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, introducing hoaxes, such as Limitarianism (Christianity), is considered to be vandalism and is prohibited. If you are interested in how accurate Wikipedia is, a more constructive test method would be to try to find inaccurate statements that are already in Wikipedia—and then to correct them if possible. If you would like to make test edits, please use the sandbox. Under section G3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, the page has been nominated for deletion. Repeated vandalism may result in the loss of editing privileges.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Eric Adams is a pescetarian as he eats a lot of fish. I believe it is incorrect to put him in the "American veganism activists" category. I have raised the issue at the talk-page but I wanted to know if you have read his book or not. His book "Healthy at Last: A Plant-Based Approach to Preventing and Reversing Diabetes and Other Chronic Illnesses" seems to be supporting plant-based diets but not veganism. If you have any details let me know. Psychologist Guy (talk) 21:22, 16 March 2023 (UTC)

  • One of his key public relations assistants (Special Advisor to the Chief of Staff), Rachel Atcheson, is a vegan and activist. She supported Eric Adams for mayor, and as far as I could tell from the campaign Adams carried out (a) he explicitly targeted vegetarians and vegans (and spoke at the Veggie Pride Parade the year before the election) and (b) most 'targeted' vegans whom I know supported Adams (enthusiastically). I think that he was POSSIBLY 'political' about 'veganism' and may have seen it as a desirable direction with which we can align, although we may not (all?) "be there" quite yet. I have restored Alex Zhavoronkov, which you had put some work into, to draft at Draft:Alex Zhavoronkov. My cursory review of coverage since the deletion of that article in 2017 suggests that there is now sufficient coverage to demonstrate individual notability. I thought you might like to take a shot at improving the draft. BD2412 T 19:55, 2 June 2023 (UTC)

Thank you, Alex. MaynardClark (talk) 20:41, 2 June 2023 (UTC)
Sorry, I just noticed your response. Were you under the impression that I am Alex Zhavoronkov? A review of my edit history will dispel that notion. Cheers! BD2412 T 13:47, 25 September 2023 (UTC)

Hans Diehl

I see that Hans Diehl passed away [2], he will probably qualify for a Wikipedia article. Psychologist Guy (talk) 01:29, 16 November 2023 (UTC)

Sadly, Dr. Hans Diehl passed away. MaynardClark (talk) 01:31, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
Yes shame to hear about that, he was 77. I will try and do his article soon. We also need an article for Virginia Messina. Psychologist Guy (talk) 01:33, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
IMO, Mark Messina is also notable, but I know each of them. Ginny is an advocate; IMO Dr. Mark Messina (PhD) is more of the applied scientist. "Dr. Mark Messina is a nationally recognized expert on the health effects of soy."[1]
Thanks for your emails, I have stored the links for Hans Diehl. I will create the article this week. From the available sources I have read, I think he was plant-based, not vegan. Maybe you know more on that if you met him personally. Psychologist Guy (talk) 22:34, 21 November 2023 (UTC)
I would be surprised if he consumed anything not of plant-origin. But SOLID, HARD evidence might persuade me.MaynardClark (talk) 22:40, 21 November 2023 (UTC)

I noticed a long time ago you left some comments about William Shatner being vegetarian, he is now 92 years old. I looked into this but all the sourcing is about 40-45 years old. I have not seen any recent sourcing on Shatner and vegetarianism. I suspect he is still a vegetarian but we need good sourcing for this, an interview would be good for WP:RS. In 1982, Shatner was the host of this vegetarian documentary "The Vegetarian World" [3]. If you have any recent sources let me know and we can update his article. Psychologist Guy (talk) 00:29, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

William Shatner produced "Vegetarian World" (a movie on reel-to-reel tape) that was a mainstay of vegetarian outreach during (I think) the 1980s. After real-to-reel became hard to show, the ISKCON movement (in Los Angeles at the time?) produced a $10 version on plastic cassette). At some point, the blurry video was uploaded to the Internet (for free video watching). Presumably, Shatner was vegetarian at the time. Some of the long-time Los Angeles-based vegan 'activists' could be consulted for verification (and possibly some strategic pathway for confirmation of the claim that Shatner was vegetarian at the time; I believe that he no longer is vegetarian. MaynardClark (talk) 00:33, 15 January 2024 (UTC)
Yeah thanks, I just watched the video on YouTube it was pretty good. Things really have changed. The old days of cassettes! Disappointing if he is no longer veg. I have recently been going over a lot of the older actors to see which ones are still alive and if they are vegetarian. There were vegetarian actors that lived a long time in their 90s but they are all deceased now. I have done a lot of historical research into deceased vegetarians. As for a few actors that are still living, Adriano Celentano is 86, John Astin is vegetarian and is now 93. Tippi Hedren is 93 but she eats fish so she is not a vegetarian like some sources claim. I know that Robert Redford is not veg either as he eats seafood. Eva Marie Saint is 99, she did positively review this cookbook but she is not vegetarian [4]. One of the oldest current living vegan actresses I found is Loretta Swit aged 86. Psychologist Guy (talk) 01:07, 15 January 2024 (UTC)
I see Marv Levy is alive at age 98 and is vegetarian. I will do some more research into Shatner and send out some emails. Psychologist Guy (talk) 01:16, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

Sad news about Steven M. Wise, thanks for letting me know. I would be interested in knowing was Wise a vegetarian? Do you have any info about his diet preferences? Psychologist Guy (talk) 02:48, 18 February 2024 (UTC)

On an unrelated note, I came across Charles Patterson (author). His birthdate is not listed on his Wikipedia article but from what I could see online it is 1935 so that would put him around 88 years old, do you know anything about Patterson. Hopefully he is still with us. Psychologist Guy (talk) 03:26, 18 February 2024 (UTC)
Steven M. Wise and his 2 wives (perhaps 3 wives) were all vegans. We shared several dinners together. I recall what he bought to an Atlantic Ocean-front vegan potluck organized by/for the Boston Vegetarian Society (decades ago). MaynardClark (talk) 03:32, 18 February 2024 (UTC)

Charles Patterson (author) and I have met and have spoken (perhaps at the 2015 NYC vegan parade. He was playing on themes previously thundered by Marjorie Spiegel (also a vegan of New York City).

I believe that Charles Patterson was born in August 1935. Yes, he would be about 88.5 years of age. MaynardClark (talk) 03:37, 18 February 2024 (UTC)

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Tamara Awerbuch-Friedlander, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Robert Wood Johnson.
