Country album tables

[edit]

Hi there, just to let you know, I reverted your removal of links to Morgan Wallen's albums in the number-one country albums lists. In tables which are sortable (i.e. readers can re-sort the table based on different columns), the rule is that items need to be linked on every mention not just the first, because if a reader re-sorts the table then what was previously the first mention might not be the first any more. I notice that you said "other tables don't do this" - either those tables aren't sortable (so this rule does not apply) or else they need fixing...... -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 06:14, 13 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi ChrisThe Dude, my apologies about the edits the main reason why I did this was because the listings of Billboard 200 number one albums don’t do that. I didn’t realize that the country albums listing did. Thank you for letting me know this by the way, I do appreciate it. JustTryingToBeSmart (talk) 21:58, 13 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Snoop Dogg albums, singles, and guest appearances split

[edit]

{{Ping|Jax 0677}} I would like to thank you for thanking me for the split and the help. I didn’t realize how badly Snoop Dogg’s discography needed split until I read through it. It exceeded 300,000KB and was difficult to read. Due to this (with your help I appreciate) I was able to find links to a previous split discussion in the talk page and I made the following pages: Snoop Dogg albums discography, Snoop Dogg singles discography, and Snoop Dogg guest appearances discography. I hope I spelt ā€œappearancesā€ correctly; and again thank you for the thank you and the help. JustTryingToBeSmart (talk) 16:16, 28 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Revival (Zach Bryan song) moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Revival (Zach Bryan song), is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Muhandes (talk) 16:10, 30 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for telling me this, I will try and add more sources, info, and whatever else to the article later today. I may submit it for review tomorrow. JustTryingToBeSmart (talk) 16:50, 30 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrectly splitting procedure and other concerns

[edit]

Please follow WP:SPLIT. What you did to Snoop Dogg discography is essentially plagiarism and goes against Wikipedia licensing. While I'm at it, please don't WP:SHOUT. Muhandes (talk) 16:19, 30 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for informing me about this, I’m not good at splitting sorry about that—I will follow WP:Split next time. I’m not trying to sound rude but why would I WP:SHOUT we’re all learning together there’s no reason to become angered at one another, I’m not mad. JustTryingToBeSmart (talk) 21:45, 30 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Typing in all caps ("TYPING IN ALL CAPS") on Wikipedia, in line with most Internet resources, is perceived as "shouting" and can come across as aggressive. Your edit summaries are often using all caps, here is one example out of many. Please don't. Muhandes (talk) 21:52, 30 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh okay, I thought that you meant that as in talking directly like that to someone on there talk page. I guess all reasons apply, thank you for letting me know—know I will know not to do that in the future. JustTryingToBeSmart (talk) 21:55, 30 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

While I'm cleaning up after you, I thought a tip and an offer of of help are in place. If you are going to write articles about songs, it is important to learn how to use {{single chart}} and {{certification Table Entry}}. Both of them have good documentation, but also a learning curve. If you need my help, {{ping}} me or leave a message on my talk page. Muhandes (talk) 13:22, 2 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry about the issues with my edits, yes, I do need to learn how to add the {{single chart}} and {{certification Table Entry}}. I didn't realize that there was a Manual of Style to use on articles—I will have to learn it before I make more articles. Thank you for informing me about this, I will practice more with my edits. If we don't talk again today have a good one. JustTryingToBeSmart (talk) 20:39, 2 December 2024 (UTC) JustTryingToBeSmart (talk) 20:39, 2 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
With your permission, I corrected your response to use {{tl}}, which is how you link to a template without calling it. Your efforts to follow policy are commendable. I suggest you start with reviewing your previous edits to ensure they conform to the policies you already know. For example, your splits lack attribution, making them an act of plagiarism. This can be corrected by providing attribution, as explained here. The same applies to your violations of MOS:CQ. I corrected some but not all. --Muhandes (talk) 08:03, 3 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for correcting my response and for letting me know my mistakes. I will review my past edits and learn how to edit, properly. I just now learned that I was splitting articles incorrectly this whole time. Thank you for informing me this. JustTryingToBeSmart (talk) 21:53, 3 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm MPFitz1968. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, List of Billboard 200 number-one albums of 2018, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Changing a figure in the article's table (in this case, showing album-equivalent units) often is considered an unsourced change, especially when the cited source itself isn't changed - the source usually won't have anything different from when it was originally cited. Even if you think the figure should be updated, there must be a (reliable) source backing the change, per verifiability policy. This sourcing also is evidence that you are not inserting original research into the article, which is also policy. MPFitz1968 (talk) 02:05, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I think I may have made a mistake, wrong article on my part… Thank you for informing me I probably wouldn’t have noticed. JustTryingToBeSmart (talk) 02:07, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Bobby Cohn, thank you for notifying me about my draft—the current Future Template is starting to become overcrowded with various songs that have him as a lead and/or featured artist. The template that I have created (Template:Future songs) will focus only on his songs with the associated albums or songs that he serves as a featured artist on. For example; Template:Drake (musician) and Template:Drake songs, Template:Lana Del Rey and Template:Lana Del Rey songs, & Template:Snoop Dogg and Template:Snoop Dogg songs—are all for the artists songs, and other related articles such as albums, concert tours, and various other related articles. Sorry if I didn't do a good job explaining as I typed this relatively fast but what I'm saying is that the main template will serve as a template that lists his various musical works and other related articles, and his Songs template will serve as a template exclusively for his songs. Please let me know what you think about my reasonings, thank you and have a good day if we don't talk again today. JustTryingToBeSmart (talk) 00:59, 9 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Stuff (Lil Baby song), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Chorus (music). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

A tag has been placed on Cock in the ass requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a recently created redirect from an implausible typo or misnomer, or other unlikely search term.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Country album tables

[edit]

Please see my comment above from late last year. Linking each item is permitted and indeed encouraged in a sortable table, because the user can sort the table into any order, meaning that what was previously the first usage of an item might not be the first any longer, making it hard for them to find the link to the item. There are literally hundreds of articles which have reached Featured List status which link in this way. Note that WP:OLINK explicitly states "Other mentions may be linked if helpful, such as in infoboxes, tables, image captions, footnotes, and hatnotes." -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 09:33, 26 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about the late reply, I just now saw the message. I just reversed this because it seems easier to understand and read. Also this is was how all of the Billboard 200 albums are listed. Sorry about the edits I won’t do that again unless I’m told to by someone on Wikipedia. JustTryingToBeSmart (talk) 21:03, 27 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

AFC

[edit]

Hi @JustTryingToBeSmart, thanks for volunteering to help out at AFC! AFC is a bit much to jump into right out the gate, so what I recommend you do first is take part in WP:AFD discussions for a while until you're sure you know how to put those guidelines you've read into practice. Keep in mind that when evaluating notability at AfD, it's not the references in the article that matter - we're trying to figure out if the right kinds of references exist anywhere. So you often need to do some research to figure out if topics are notable or not. Sign up for WP:TWL if you haven't already, it's a big help.

Closers and participants at AfD really appreciate thorough comments that explain exactly what you did. So if you're going to say "there are enough sources for WP:GNG", link those sources in your comment. If you're going to say you couldn't find any sources at all, tell us where you looked. If you think the sources other people have brought to the discussion are inadequate, explain why. Some people treat AfD like a fight and get kind of mean about it; be patient and kind and it will be okay. It works best if you can convince yourself that everyone there is trying their hardest to improve the encyclopedia as much as possible. That assumption won't be true, but it won't lead you astray, either. Good luck! -- asilvering (talk) 04:01, 3 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for informing me about this, I appreciate it. I will sign up for WP:TWL and I will try to take part in WP:AFD discussions so I can learn if a topic is notable or not. Thank you again. JustTryingToBeSmart (talk) 11:18, 3 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reflist

[edit]

Just so you know, 20em column width is used for shortened footnotes. 30em is typically used for a large number of references. Even if you have hundreds of refs, you don't want to put a long citation into a super-narrow column. 20em works well for something like "Smith 2020, p. 123–125." (which is 13 ems wide), because most of them will be one or, at the most, two lines long.

20em works poorly for something like "Collins, Natalie J.; Barton, Christian J.; van Middelkoop, Marienke; Callaghan, Michael J.; Rathleff, Michael Skovdal; Vicenzino, Bill T.; Davis, Irene S.; Powers, Christopher M.; Macri, Erin M.; Hart, Harvi F.; de Oliveira Silva, Danilo; Crossley, Kay M. (September 2018). "2018 Consensus statement on exercise therapy and physical interventions (orthoses, taping and manual therapy) to treat patellofemoral pain: recommendations from the 5th International Patellofemoral Pain Research Retreat, Gold Coast, Australia, 2017". British Journal of Sports Medicine. 52 (18): 1170–1178. doi:10.1136/bjsports-2018-099397. ISSNĀ 1473-0480. PMIDĀ 29925502." (which is more than 350 ems wide). That would take up almost 20 lines of text, and the columns break funny in such cases.

Your thoughts on a potential change to Template:Morgan Wallen

[edit]

Good morning,

I know you are a common editor of country music, especially Morgan Wallen, and I wanted you opinion as a country editor. Take a look at Template:Eminem songs and Template:Kanye West songs. These are the template boxes that go at the bottom of any song or album or artist page that these artists are featured on, same as with Template:Morgan Wallen does for MW. The reason these rap templates were expanded to include songs categorized by album and not to have albums and songs categorized by single, promotional, etc, is because the songs from these artists almost always charted on the Billboard Hot 100 and were therefore notable. As the case has been for MW is every song from Dangerous and One Thing at a Time has debuted on the chart and therefore is notable and warrants their own page, and the same goes for the songs of If I Know Me, due to the post-release charting following the release of Dangerous and OTAAT. If the trend continues with his upcoming I'm The Problem, what are your thoughts on working with me to create the pages for songs for D:TDA and OTAAT as well as I'm the Problem and then updating the Template to match? Just wanted to grab your opinion, let me know what you think.

Thanks! Cop1034 (talk) 15:56, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Cop1034, thank you for reaching out to me about this. I was also thinking about making a template exclusively for Morgan Wallen's songs since he has basically charted every song from those three albums and his upcoming release, which I am excited for. I am at school so I may not be able to respond to you as soon as I'd like to, but I am down to split his template into two, the other one for songs. Thank you for reaching out to me about this, and late good morning from me. Happy editing! JustTryingToBeSmart (talk) 18:38, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the reply! I am also in school so I can't get as much done as I would like either but I am ready for the new release and I would love to split the template in two with you. I'll get to work on his songs from OTAAT and D: TDA and if you could help wherever that'd be great! Happy editing! Cop1034 (talk) 18:57, 11 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Your welcome! And good afternoon, it’s cool that we’re both in school. I see that you have created the beginnings in your sandbox as you mentioned below. I haven’t checked it out yet but I’m happy to and to add more to it. Thanks again! JustTryingToBeSmart (talk) 21:35, 11 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I have created the beginnings for the template in my sandbox. Feel free to add to it there and when it's done we can go public with it. Cop1034 (talk) 20:23, 11 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Cop1034! I forgot to tell you that I have finished the template on Morgan Wallen's songs in your sandbox. I believe I got everything but let me know if I forgot something or if something can be done better. Thank you! JustTryingToBeSmart (talk) 01:37, 15 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi JustTryingToBeSmart! I saw your edits and they were perfect, you fit everything perfectly. Everything will line up symmetrically other than Dangerous due to the "deluxe" side (I say deluxe in quotes because it adds like four extra songs post release so it's not really a delixe but those will get their own pages too) and it'll stick out like Relapse and Relapse: Refill on Template:Eminem. But as you create more pages, just add them in the tracklist order as I just did for Devil Don't Know.
Thanks man! Cop1034 (talk) 20:03, 15 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You’re welcome man! I’m happy to help you! JustTryingToBeSmart (talk) 21:10, 15 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hey man! First off: Loved I'm the Problem! Dangerous still prolly my favorite but this is up there, lots of bangers! Now that we are gaining a lot of MW songs (I added What I Want and Come Back as a Redneck just today), do you think I shud go ahead and push out the release of the new template? Cop1034 (talk) 17:28, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hey man! Thank you for making the pages I listened to "I Got Better" and "What I Want" this morning. They’re some good songs and I'm going to try to listen to the rest of the album later. Yes good idea! I think that it's a great idea to push the release of the template. Smart thinking! JustTryingToBeSmart (talk) 20:02, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Your edit to One Thing at a Time

[edit]

Hello again,

I saw your edit to One Thing at a Time where you added subheadings but didn't add anything else underneath them and said you'd come back to finish it. I didn't revert it because I personally don't care but I know some people on Wikipedia do care because it technically is a public page and there's unfinished work on there which could technically be in a draft or sandbox space. Just letting you know that someone might revert that because of the unfinished state of your edits, so its up to you what you do but I'm giving you a heads up! Personally, I always find it easier to edit in a sandbox (I have 3 different ones) that way I can come to it at my own pace (I know we're both in school so it would work well) Cop1034 (talk) 04:18, 14 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Cop1034, apologies for the late reply. Yes I was going back to finish it but you're right about how Wikipedia is a public image and that some people care. I have two sandboxes and I believe that one of them is free. I could probably move that section over to my sandbox until it's completed. Thank you for the heads up man! In case your curious why I've been heavily editing One Thing at a Time, I'm trying to bring the article up to good article standards and then Wallen's three other albums. After all four of his studio albums are at GA-Class, and after Morgan Wallen discography reaches FL-Class, I can make them into a good topic. Again thanks for the heads up! As a heads up attempting to work on the article as a GA nom would lead to it failing under the stability criterion per WP:GACR (also under WP:GACN: "if the article is changing so dramatically and so rapidly that you can't figure out what you're supposed to be reviewing."). I think the work that was being done was pretty promising though, and I'd suggest you take your time/not rush your way to working towards completing it.
Also: if you're trying out ideas for formatting n whatnot use the User:JustTryingToBeSmart/sandbox. If you are already using one, make another (see WP:ABOUTSAND; i have 3 lmao) // Chchcheckit (talk) 12:30, 27 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the heads up! Yes I agree I didn't think about how rapidly the article is changing until you mentioned it. Yes thank you, I hope that the work done is pretty promising because I've been working on it for a solid minute. I agree that I should take my time and not rush. Yes I love using my sandbox for formatting and structuring other parts of articles. I have two user boxes but three is a lot lmao. JustTryingToBeSmart (talk) 19:11, 27 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Ken Carson GA topic

[edit]

Hi!!! Thank you for writing the intro for Ken Carson discography. I have been meaning to get that article to FL status in order to get Ken Carson studio albums to good topic status, just been burnt out. I think all that is left is citations on some things (including formatting; ill sort what is already there) and music videos (i'll do this). but thank you yeah once that gets done ig you or we (pending if music videos is sizeable enough contribution) can (co) nominate for FL status. thank you thank you Chchcheckit (talk) 12:21, 27 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! You're welcome! I'm glad that you've been working on Ken Carson's studio albums and I can understand that you're burnt out from all the editing. Your work on Ken Carson's four albums is high quality and I'm happy to help out on his discography so you can promote that as a good topic. If their's anything else I can help with on his discography (music videos for example), I am happy to help you out! You're welcome again and thank you for reaching out to me!
