Information icon Hi JaspersB! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Neville Wran that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia – it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. Thanks for the advice. My apologies. JaspersB (talk) 05:39, 1 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Laurence J Patton moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Laurence J Patton, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. DoubleGrazing (talk) 09:28, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, just to explain, the reason why I moved this to drafts is that while there are plenty of sources, they are first of all not cited correctly: in articles on living people (WP:BLP), anything potentially contentious must be supported by an immediate and direct inline citation of a reliable source. For help with referencing, see WP:REFB.
Moreover, the sources cited are all either primary, or passing mentions (incl. some appointment news), or things the person themselves has said or written, none of which contribute towards notability per the general notability criteria WP:GNG. We need to see what others have said about the person, in reliable and independent secondary sources.
Please continue working on the draft, and once you feel you have shown notability, you're welcome to submit it for pre-publication review by clicking the blue 'Submit the draft' button. Thanks, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 12:18, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi DoubleGrazing

Thanks for your advice. Help me out here please. Are these references sufficient on notability?

“Between 30% and 40% of premises using the NBN will be serviced by “fibre-to-the-node”, which IA’s chief executive, Laurie Patton, says will not meet Australia’s future needs, given the fact that ageing copper-wire fibres will need replacing in 10 to 15 years’ time.”

Hi. No, none of those would contribute towards notability at all. Items 1 and 3 are the same, and only list his name among many. Whereas 2 and 4 provide only the briefest of passing mentions. Did you look at the notability guideline WP:GNG I mentioned in my earlier message? It tells you what sort of sources are needed. Basically, we need articles, books, etc. about him, or which at least discuss him significantly. And we need multiple such sources (often interpreted as WP:THREE or more). -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 06:26, 10 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the offer, but I think you misunderstand the issue.

I don’t wish to become an editor. I would simply like to have the entry about me reinstated.

I did not write it in the first place.

I can supply you (or anyone who can assist) with a copy of the entry along with evidence for the updates required to make it accurate as of now. JaspersB (talk) 05:38, 8 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
