ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:53, 19 November 2024 (UTC)

Congratulations, IntentionallyDense! The list you nominated, List of chronic pain syndromes, has been promoted to featured status, recognizing it as one of the best lists on Wikipedia. The nomination discussion has been archived.

Question from Dinosaur 234 (03:12, 29 November 2024)

how do I write a biography? --Dinosaur 234 (talk) 03:12, 29 November 2024 (UTC)

Hi @Dinosaur 234 and welcome to Wikipedia. On Wikipedia we have a separate list of rules for biographies of living people (people who are still alive) which can be found at Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons. To write a biography it is important that you are not connected to the subject. Then you need to find reliable sources on the topic. This means sources that are independant of the person (not written by the person themself) and come from a reliable website. You can start your article in something called draftspace where the article won't actually appear on the web untill you are finished writting it. When writting about other people it is important that you maintain a neutral point of view, meaning that you represent the person in a neutral sense. A reader should not be able to tell your opinion on a person based on your Wikipedia article. The page Help:Your first article has tons of great advice about writing your first article.
In summary, use reliable sources, maintain a neutral point of view, and check out Help:Your first article.
I hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions as I'm here to help you! IntentionallyDense (Contribs) 22:37, 29 November 2024 (UTC)

Hello, IntentionallyDense! I hope you're doing okay. I am here for review again my article Dilaw (song) since it has a little improved and since you review it (i think october or September). If you have time to review it, i am happy to review my article, if not, it's okay i understand.

Friendly note: If you are struggle on my sources that are not familiar to you, you can check it the Tambayan Philippines (a WikiProject for all Filipinos Wikipedians), there is a reliable sources for Philippine sources only (WP:TAMBAY/RS). Thanks! Royiswariii Talk! 15:53, 9 December 2024 (UTC)

@Royiswariii Hi, I unfortunately do not currently have time to review your article due to finals coming up and other on-wiki projects. However I will say that the article is looking much better. Some things to remeber are to spell out acronyms in full the first time you use them and make sure your footnotes are also cited. Good luck! DYK for Adrenal crisis

On 12 December 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Adrenal crisis, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the death rate from adrenal crises can reach as high as 6 percent? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Adrenal crisis. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Adrenal crisis), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Neurocysticercosis

Regarding the article on Neurocysticercosis, the way of catching this disease is different from the way of catching taeniasis. Please refer to CDC for both, since the distinction is very important: cysticercosis (https://www.cdc.gov/dpdx/cysticercosis/index.html) and taeniasis (https://www.cdc.gov/dpdx/taeniasis/index.html). See how by consuming undercooked pork which contains cysticerci, they grow into adult worms that inhabit the human intestine, and by accidentally consuming Taenia solium eggs, these will grow into tissular cysts (cysticerci). There is physically no way for an adult worm (its length is of several meters) to migrate from the bowels and end up in any other tissue. Benzisoxazole (talk) 09:54, 23 December 2024 (UTC)

Welcome to the 2025 WikiCup!

Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2025 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor, we hope the WikiCup will give you a chance to improve your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here and the judges will set up your submissions page ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page.

For the 2025 WikiCup, we've implemented several changes to the scoring system. The highest-ranking contestants will now receive tournament points at the end of each round, and final rankings are decided by the number of tournament points each contestant has. If you're busy and can't sign up in January, don't worry: Signups are now open throughout the year. To make things fairer for latecomers, the lowest-scoring contestants will no longer be eliminated at the end of each round.

The first round will end on 26 February. The judges for the WikiCup this year are: Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs · email), Epicgenius (talk · contribs · email), Frostly (talk · contribs · email), Guerillero (talk · contribs · email) and Lee Vilenski (talk · contribs · email). Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Question from Hiro1771 (18:56, 1 January 2025)

How do I add a picture of the person’s Wikipedia page if I have permission from the owner of the picture. Like is there some where I can show that I have proof that I permission to use that picture? --Hiro1771 (talk) 18:56, 1 January 2025 (UTC)

@Hiro1771 Assuming that this is a copyrighted image that you have obtained permission to use, please ask the copyright holder to send a permission statement to permissions-commonswikimedia.org. GA criteria for Havana Syndrome

Thanks for taking time to provide feedback on the Hav Syn article. I'm wondering if you'd be willing to step aside and let another reviewer do the review? I'm concerned about a few things:

  • You are focusing on a minor essay WP:PROSELINE... its not even a policy, let alone a guideline.
  • You asked for 4 paragraphs in lede. That was never a hard requirement for FA, let alone GA. Also, the 4 paragr suggestion was removed from WP:LEDE in 2024.
  • You say that GAC requires uniform citation formats; that is not correct .. FA require uniform cite foarmats.

No big deal, but you seem to be mixing up FA and GA. Would it be okay if we found another reviewer to do the review? Noleander (talk) 03:22, 6 January 2025 (UTC)

@Noleander If you would like a different person to review your article I'd ask WT:GAN as that is usually how new reviewers are requested. The other option would be for me to fail the review, you renominate, and then eventually someone else picks up the review and decides if you have improved on the parts that led me to fail the article. However I'll expand on my points thusfar.
  • While WP:PROSELINE is not a guidline, it is a word to explain bad prose. Clear and concise prose is apart of the GAC. Issues like PROSELINE make the article harder to read, hence why in it's current state I would not say the prose passes criteria 1.
  • The lead thing was more of a suggestion and I guess I could have worded things better. Part of the GAC is complying with the layout section of the MOS which states Single-sentence paragraphs can inhibit the flow of the text; by the same token, long paragraphs become hard to read. The lead you had before, with 5 paragraphs, included one paragraph that was a single setence which goes against the MOS.
  • Criterion 2 requires compliance with MOS:LAYOUT, the MOS:LAYOUT section MOS:REFERENCES says: Editors may use any citation method they choose, but it should be consistent within an article.. I'd be willing to discuss the plaintext citations however the bare urls do need to be fixed.
It's not uncommon for reviewers and nominators to disagree, however I would ask that you stay open to discussing these disagreements instead of just requesting I step down as a reviewer as these kinds of disagreements are going to happen regardless of who is reviewing. IntentionallyDense (Contribs) 03:49, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
I just figured out you were using MLA formatted citations most likely so while I do believe consistant citation formatting is apart of GAN criteria I misspoke about the bare url part. Apologies for that. IntentionallyDense (Contribs) 04:00, 6 January 2025 (UTC)

Yeah, go ahead and mark the GA review as failed. Noleander (talk) 16:39, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
Okay I’m going to do a full review as the article doesn’t meet QF criteria and so that the next reviewer can more easily evaluate if you were able to resolve the issues that lead me to failing the article. This may take a me a couple days. IntentionallyDense (Contribs) 17:12, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
@Noleander, i mean instead of failing it, why not withdraw it? Cowboygilbert - (talk) ♥ 17:13, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
I mean regardless I would like to review this article tbh. It's an interesting topic. IntentionallyDense (Contribs) 17:15, 6 January 2025 (UTC)

WikiCup 2025 March newsletter

The first round of the 2025 WikiCup ended on 26 February. As a reminder, we are no longer disqualifying the lowest-scoring contestants; everyone who competed in round 1 will advance to round 2 unless they have withdrawn or been banned from Wikipedia. Instead, the contestants with the highest round-point totals now receive tournament points at the end of each round. Unlike the round points in the main WikiCup table, which are reset at the end of each round, tournament points are carried over between rounds and can only be earned if a competitor is among the top 16 round-point scorers. This table shows all competitors who have received tournament points so far.

Round 1 was very competitive compared with previous years; two contestants scored more than 1,000 round points, and the top 16 contestants all scored more than 500 round points. The following competitors scored more than 800 round points:

The full scores for round 1 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 18 featured articles, 26 featured lists, 1 featured-topic article, 197 good articles, 38 good-topic articles and more than 100 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 23 In the News articles, and they have conducted nearly 550 reviews.

Remember that any content promoted after 26 February but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2, which begins on 1 March. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! Transgender health care misinformation

ID, I'm sorry your meaning isn't being communicated to Sweet6970. I think part of the issue is that it's bad if editors try to review it to ensure it passes or to ensure it fails based on their position in the dispute. I understand why you likely called out one side (because it's the one challenging the GA status), but if you clarified you weren't insinuating one side of the dispute is more likely to act badly it may allay Sweet6970's concerns? Maybe it won't. Rollinginhisgrave (talk | contributions) 17:45, 8 March 2025 (UTC)

@Rollinginhisgrave Thank you. I've decided to mostly step away from that convo as it seems to be a case of "both users believe they are in the right" which doesn't go very far most of the time. I did try to clarify that it is completely reasonable for me to suggest that someone may go into this review with the intention to fail or pass it but it does not seem that I will get far with that. For now, others have provided more context for Sweet and I have provided an explanation as they asked. All I can do now is provide a thorough review for the article. Cheers! Given that there are sources that use this term as the primary topic, this is not unreasonable. We don't have many pages that take a regional approach to anatomy, but perhaps we should. It would be helpful if this had a few more links from other pages.

I was referring to the line about her high school followed by "citation needed". How long would this generally stay up without being cited back to a source? Tempuser23 (talk) 21:31, 14 March 2025 (UTC)
@Tempuser23 It depends on the page. Sometimes, unsourced material will get removed within seconds and other times it takes years. IntentionallyDense (Contribs) 23:14, 14 March 2025 (UTC)

thank you

I just wanted to give a formal thank you for performing the good article review at Transgender Healthcare Misinformation. I always like to do something like this after anyone trys a big wiki task. I'm sure this took a lot of your time and thank you for devoting the time to this task. LunaHasArrived (talk) 17:18, 15 March 2025 (UTC)

@LunaHasArrived Thank you, this was my first experience with GENSEX and it was quite the introduction. I actually enjoyed most of the review as I learnt a lot, even if it was tedious. IntentionallyDense (Contribs) 18:20, 15 March 2025 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Special Barnstar
For an incredibly patient and thoughtful GAR. You actively took on the third review of a very difficult and hotly disputed article, and upheld all of wikipedia's pillars in doing so. You were forthright throughout, asked plainly if you weren't certain on something, and keenly engaged with how to make sure the article could be up to GA status. Thank you very much for your work Bejakyo (talk) 17:33, 15 March 2025 (UTC)

Thank you very much for your work. Should I take on a GAR myself in the future, I'll certainly look back on your work reviewing as exemplary Bejakyo (talk) 17:33, 15 March 2025 (UTC)

@Bejakyo Thank you! This means a lot to me as I was very nervous about this review seeing as it was being viewed by so many people and was on such a tricky topic. Thanks for popping in and making some of the changes I suggested yourself! that is always appreciated. IntentionallyDense (Contribs) 18:22, 15 March 2025 (UTC)
Congratulations, IntentionallyDense! The list you nominated, List of medical eponyms with Nazi associations, has been promoted to featured status, recognizing it as one of the best lists on Wikipedia. The nomination discussion has been archived.
This is a rare accomplishment and you should be proud. If you would like, you may nominate it to appear on the Main page as Today's featured list. Keep up the great work! Cheers, PresN (talk) via FACBot (talk) 00:27, 16 March 2025 (UTC)

Question from Agio12 (09:19, 18 March 2025)

Hello, May i know which is the most reliable type of source? is it books r what --Agio12 (talk) 09:19, 18 March 2025 (UTC)

(talk page watcher) A source can be anything that provides information. A reliable source is a source that has gone through appropriate editorial processes and has a (mostly) solid track record. Think Encyclopædia Britannica, The New York Times, Encyclopædia Iranica, CNN, IGN, etc. — 🌙Eclipse (she/they/all neostalkedits) 22:42, 18 March 2025 (UTC)

Question from Murillo de Aragão 1 (00:40, 24 March 2025)

Hello, can I post my information in the Wikipedia? --Murillo de Aragão 1 (talk) 00:40, 24 March 2025 (UTC)

Hi @Murillo de Aragão 1 I'm not quite sure what your exact question is here but generally writing about yourself on Wikipedia is frowned upon (check out Wikipedia:Autobiography for more reasons why). Sharing personal information on your own userpage is allowed however as always it's important that you are careful with what information you post online and refrain from such if you are under the age of 18. I hope I was able to answer your question, thanks for reaching out, happy editing! IntentionallyDense (Contribs) 01:07, 24 March 2025 (UTC)

Congratulations on the above! Was wondering if you were able to provide citations for the unsourced material in Metabolism#Application of the scientific method, and the two images File:Catabolism schematic.svg & File:Insulin glucose metabolism ZP.svg, which I think is pretty much all it needs to avoid an FAR (or they could be removed if out of scope). ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 09:28, 31 March 2025 (UTC)

FAC veredict missing

Hi, @IntentionallyDense.

I am feeling so bad bothering you right now, but I need to tell you that, if the article now seems good for your review, you should clarify if you support or oppose the article please, because the FAC could be closed in three days due to slow development and uncertainty. Thanks for reading. Santi (talk) 01:35, 3 April 2025 (UTC)

No problem. I did vote over at the candidate page. It took me a couple days to come to a conclusion as I am also new to this. Best of luck IntentionallyDense (Contribs) 04:06, 3 April 2025 (UTC)

FAC

Hi, I’m MSincccc. I’ve noticed your work at FAC, where I’ve been regularly reviewing articles over the past year. My only nomination at FAC last summer was not promoted due to an insufficient number of cited book sources. Since then, I have rewritten several sections of the article and would like to hear other users’ opinions before renominating it. I would appreciate your suggestions and hope we can collaborate in the future. I look forward to your response. Best regards, MSincccc (talk) 08:55, 1 April 2025 (UTC)

Please do let me know your response when it is convenient for you to do so. No rush. Regards. MSincccc (talk) 11:01, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
I'll check it out when I have time and leave some feedback on the talkpage for you! I'd highly suggest reaching out to someone at WP:FAM as they have much more experience than me but I am still happy to help! IntentionallyDense (Contribs) 19:49, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
Thank you for your feedback on the article’s talk page.
With regard to sourcing, while I realise that the Ancestry section requires more book sources (which I will add), would it not be sufficient to use articles from traditional newspapers and reliable secondary sources to cite information in the other sections? The article Ryan Reynolds, for which you conducted a source review, follows a similar approach.
I look forward to your response whenever it is convenient for you.
Best regards. MSincccc (talk) 06:11, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
I didn't do a source review for Ryan Reynolds so I can't comment much on the sources there, however I would expect that there are much more literary sources for a member of the royal family than for a celebrity. criteria 1c of WP:FACR is well-researched: it is a thorough and representative survey of the relevant literature; claims are verifiable against high-quality reliable sources and are supported by inline citations where appropriate, online news articles and such are generally not considered "high quality" when there are higher quality sources available. The easiest way to improve this would be to find a couple good quality books or other academic sources and read through them, replacing current citations to news articles with the academic sources. I've done this before with articles and while it is tedious and annoying it does pay off. IntentionallyDense (Contribs) 14:14, 3 April 2025 (UTC)

Question from Aaron Gbenga on Éric Chelle (20:43, 21 March 2025)

DYK for Heartburn

On 13 April 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Heartburn, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that about 25 percent of people experience heartburn at least once a month? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Heartburn. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Heartburn), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Great question, Pigguy669, to upload images I'd check out Wikipedia:Uploading images, bur to summarize, check the copyright status to make sure it is appropriate for Wikipedia. Since your account is fairly new, you'll have to upload your image through Wikipedia:Files for upload. Best of luck and thanks for the question! WikiCup 2025 May newsletter

The second round of the 2025 WikiCup ended on 28 April at 23:59 UTC. To reiterate what we said in the previous newsletter, we are no longer disqualifying contestants based on how many points (now known as round points) they received. Instead, the contestants with the highest round-point totals now receive tournament points at the end of each round. These tournament points are carried over between rounds, and can only be earned if a competitor is among the top 16 round-point scorers at the end of each round. This table shows all competitors who have received tournament points so far. Everyone who competed in round 2 will advance to round 3 unless they have withdrawn or been banned.

Round 2 was quite competitive. Four contestants scored more than 1,000 round points, and eight scored more than 500 points (including one who has withdrawn). The following competitors scored at least 800 points:

In addition, we would like to recognize Generalissima (submissions) for her efforts; she scored 801 round points but withdrew before the end of the round.

The full scores for round 2 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 13 featured articles, 20 featured lists, 4 featured-topic articles, 138 good articles, 7 good-topic articles, and more than 100 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 19 In the News articles, and they have conducted nearly 300 reviews.

Remember that any content promoted after 28 April but before the start of Round 3 can be claimed in Round 3. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.
