Right.. okay! Serious stuff now: What other stuff is there to do in the fields of Irish radio and tv? I have emailed many of the RTÉ radio programmes looking for dates of first broadcasts. So for The Tubridy Show (I made that one), have got back to me on their first show. CargoK user talk 22:20, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

VP

What can I answer that hasn't already been said at the MfD? It's pretty obvious from the perspective of the people who are interfacing with archives. DurovaCharge! 00:36, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

Well, here's the basics. For those of us who work with historic images, access is a crucial issue. Even if an image is public domain, an archive that owns a hard copy has no obligation to make it available to the public. So they need reasons to release material. Some of them are getting the idea that's good to do. Right now Flickr and WMF are competing to become the main point of image release. Flickr has interface advantages. One of the biggest advantages we've got is POTD. And the page traffic that goes with it. VP is sucking the life out of that advantage. And it isn't obvious to anyone who's actually negotiating with these archives, why VP even needs to exist. It looks like a parasitic pet project that's doing real harm. Not deliberately, but harmful all the same. DurovaCharge! 02:20, 7 June 2009 (UTC)
Maybe VP wasn't set up for that purpose deliberately, but it has no safeguards against it. And the need for a VP program was never clearly defined or broadly supported. Media content doesn't need to ape text content processes. The challenges we face are different. And if process gets in the way of content (and it has) then it's bureaucracy and needs to go. DurovaCharge! 03:14, 7 June 2009 (UTC)
That's shifted significantly in the last few months since VP got started, and it's shifted against established FP criteria and norms. And one of the principal recruiting grounds for VP has been active FPCs. Not waiting for the nom to even close. Comments at two recent FP delisting noms even explicitly stated an intent to clean out existing FPs of high EV and reroute them to VP. And since VP gets very little other activity, one FP regular even characterized high EV FP delistings as the 'saving grace' of VP, which serves little other purpose and does negligible good. If you need a diff for that I can get it. It's very worrisome. DurovaCharge! 03:31, 7 June 2009 (UTC)
There is no way. It's a slippery slope. There's no safeguard against that abuse, and I raised the concern as early as January. It does actual harm. Significant and long term harm. It's process-wonking of the very worst variety. DurovaCharge! 03:38, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

You have put great humour on my talk page. Also on the ITN/C page, I was laughing for literally for ages on this:

To do with Mexico nursery:

From an IP

Someone was struck by lightning in San Diego a few days ago. That Europe has one parliment for all of Europe is news to me.

Yourself

What, 68.164.237.202, might I ask does Europe have to do with Mexico? Please consult an atlas quickly. Did the person in San Diego multiply into several dozen burnt bodies?

You may not think it is funny. I personally think it was bloody hilarious. CargoK user talk 17:44, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Some GAs

Hey! I was wondering if you wanted to bring up some of the ITNs you've (and/or I've) created up to GA status. Some, like Operation Seabight for example, wouldn't need as much work to get there. If you're up for the offer, leave a note on my talk, and which article you'd like to begin with (I think Operation Seabight would be the easiest after a quick look-through). Happy editing, SpencerT♦Nominate! 02:35, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
