Autopatrol

[edit]
Cleaning images uploaded by users with COM:CropTool and/or derived from djvu files for wikisource (like this or this... A lot of img for ask exception one by one!) Tks. TrameOscure (talk) 15:36, 4 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Your edit count is a bit low. Also, could you explain in your own words why you were blocked from Italian Wikipedia last year? Abzeronow (talk) 18:31, 4 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Abzeronow
  • Editcount: Yes, I know. On the other hand I don't think that a simple "number of edits" is a correct parameter to judge the ability to perform an easy download-edit-upload task (like this). There are no complex licensing issues, or advanced technical aspects that really require a long and high experience.
  • Block: it's much more complicated to answer this, even more so in English and in few lines. I'll try. It was a problem of misunderstandings, perhaps previous tensions in it.wiki in which I have no role ([1]) but which have left a bad atmosphere and general distrust vs. new users, poor ability to include different contribution styles and an extremely closed (sic!) and pyramidal environment. This is my biased opinion. :D
But beyond this, if the question that interests you is (I think) whether I am a "dangerous irresponsible vandal", the answer is no: no one has raised this kind of accusation despite everything. Indeed, if it can be reassuring, I was interface admin for a short time on it.wikisource, helping to fix the dark mode of Vector22. And it.wikisource is still alive.  :-D
Now I would like to help to fix (among other things) graphic problems of the wikisource texts for which, given the great number of images involved, it is unthinkable to ask for specific permissions for each individual image to be corrected (it drastically slows down the work and it's time-consuming for everyone). Moreover, perhaps it is also safer to grant permissions to a single user than to definitively lower the protection level of a large number of images to allow anyone to overwrite them forever.
Tks and sorry for the poem, I await your decision or more questions if you want..  ;-) --TrameOscure (talk) 20:19, 4 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your detailed answer. I'll keep this request open for a little while so your edit count can grow organically. Abzeronow (talk) 20:26, 4 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Abzeronow: Ok. But it will grow very slowly for the reasons explained. --TrameOscure (talk) 20:23, 5 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I am going to request for autopatrol rights for uploading public domain MP3 files. Thank you. Absolutiva (talk) 22:54, 5 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Your edit count is definitely better than 6 months ago. MP3s are an area with more than usual pitfalls due to multiple copyrights (composition, performance and recording). Do you know the dividing line between public domain sound recordings and protected sound recordings in the US? Abzeronow (talk) 23:54, 5 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I was going to upload public domain national anthem recordings for MP3 version of the "State Anthem of the Soviet Union", which is {{PD-RU-exempt}}. Similar that to File:"The Star-Spangled Banner" performed by the United States Navy Band.mp3, which is {{PD-USGov-Military-Navy}}. Other examples of files using MP3 format, including File:Amethyst-tobefree.mp3, File:Stay Down Here Where You Belong (1915, Burr).mp3, etc. Absolutiva (talk) 13:42, 6 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Source of the MP3 on the State Anthem of the Soviet Union? Abzeronow (talk) 20:04, 6 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Immediate source from https://web.archive.org/web/20170324042415/http://media.vad1.com/temporary_url_20140405ksjrf/anthem-sovietunion-1977-bolshoith.mp3 from https://web.archive.org/web/20160508070016/http://www.hymn.ru/index-en.html. Absolutiva (talk) 21:44, 6 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. @Jmabel: . The latter link credits this from "the choir and orchestra of en:Bolshoi Theatre, conductor en:Yuri Simonov (from CD “National Anthems of the USSR and Union Republics”)" The 1977 performance by choir and orchestra of Bolshoi Theatre would still be protected under the copyright laws of Russia and the United States. Simonov is also still alive. The CD would also has a copyright notice "CD “National Anthems of the USSR and Union Republics”, ©1996 Melodiya." but the 1977 performance might be the more important copyright. Even though the anthem itself is not protected by copyright, performances of the anthem would be separately protected. Abzeronow (talk) 22:02, 6 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Addendum, we do have File:Gimn Sovetskogo Soyuza (1977 Vocal).oga. Since this is a file that has been on Commons for almost 20 years, I'll make sure that there isn't some wrinkle here I'm overlooking before nominating it for deletion. Abzeronow (talk) 22:13, 6 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I was pinged, but don't have anything to add except to say to Absolutiva, you can see what a quagmire this is and why we tend to want people to have a lot of experience before we let them do this. - Jmabel ! talk 22:33, 6 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to formally request autopatrol rights to upload new versions of images if they do not have an autoconfirmed tag. I would always have to request them as an autoconfirmed user. I also have over 500 edits and have been active in the last 30 days. Thank you. 🗽Freedoxm🗽 (talk) 21:57, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You have two recent warning messages from non-admins concerning edits. I understand the gist of User:Jeff G.'s which is to be more cautious about edit summaries but I don't know the context of User:TzarN64's message. Abzeronow (talk) 22:01, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You mean @TzarN64? I don't know why she did that. She refused to give an explanation. The only reason why I wasn't cautious on the edit summary was because I was frustrated. It wasn't meant to offend anyone. (edited) 🗽Freedoxm🗽 (talk) 22:04, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'll give TzarN64 three more days to give an explanation. If I don't hear one, I'll just not take that second warning into consideration as far as this request. Abzeronow (talk) 19:56, 13 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

AutoWikiBrowser access

[edit]

I want to have an ability to work with AWB with files that I uploaded. I have access in ruwiki (personally and for the bot), had an access for the bot for inactive bot in ukwiki, so I know how to work with it :) Анастасия Львоваru/en 12:15, 29 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Patroller

[edit]
See also: Patrol guideline.
I would like to help out with fixing or nominating for deletion any file that does not come under COM:Project Scope. There are a lot of files on Commons not in scope, so I feel more the number of patrollers, better the state of the site. Thank you. DoctorWhoFan91 (talk) 15:47, 11 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
For the moment, I'm considering whether you should be autopatrolled which would also help lessen the patrol backlog. You're still relatively new, but your edits look solid here. There is that recent enwiki block which makes me hesitant on patroller for the moment. Abzeronow (talk) 18:42, 12 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Autopatroller would be a good start, though I didn't ask because I don't really upload much of my own images. En.wp is separate, so I don't think it's relevant- not that it's worth much, but most of the stuff wasn't my fault(pre-block anyway), I was being continually bullied on en.wp and the admins there blocked me instead of taking action against a long-time editor. But I don't want to bring it up on Commons. Plus I was a New Page Patroller on en.wp, and there were no issues with that, if we are mentioning en.wp. Thank you for the consideration. DoctorWhoFan91 (talk) 11:52, 13 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Abzeronow, I'm inclined to take their word about their enwiki problems applying to commons (I don't think the iban applies here, but I would strongly recomend that DWF still treats it like it's also a commons IBAN.) and I've seen fantasitic contributions both here and on enwiki. @DoctorWhoFan91, learn from your mistakes on enwiki, you have a second chance here, and a shot at an eventual return to enwiki. don't waste it. All the Best -- Chuck Talk 17:31, 13 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Alachuckthebuck. Yeah, I wasn't trying to talk about that editor, it's just that I had to clarify the situation. (P.S. Can you please not talk about enwiki, I don't want to talk about anyone there or a "return"). DoctorWhoFan91 (talk) 17:40, 13 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
✓ Done on autopatrol.  Not done on patroller for now, I'd be willing to reevaluate in a few months. Abzeronow (talk) 19:54, 13 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback

[edit]
See also: Rollback guideline.
Recently, there have been frequent vandals who have vandalism the page, asking for authorization. Thank you. Thyj (talk) 10:14, 23 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not seeing that much anti-vandalism activity in your recent edits. Which page are you talking about? Abzeronow (talk) 19:36, 23 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Because that vandal was so stubborn, I rollbacked and but he changed it back. Thyj (talk) 06:37, 24 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Can you link so I can see what you're talking about? Abzeronow (talk) 22:23, 3 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I've been routinely requesting renaming of photos of Georgia (country, not state) for several reasons: 1) criterion 3: [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] [10]; 2) criterion 1: [11] [12] [13]; 3) criterion 2: [14] [15] [16]. In addition, I would like to perform "manual" moves myself to fix capitalisation issues with Georgian titles and escape situations like these in future: [17] [18] [19] [20] [21] Thank you. Upload Wizard campaign editors

[edit]

I'm an organizer for Wiki Loves Earth 2025 in Iran, and need the campaign editor right to create the necessary campaign page. I'm also the organizer for Wiki Loves Monuments in Iran and need to edit the campaign page for that as well for the next competition. Thank you. Arian (talk) 09:50, 13 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
