User:Ravensfire

Hello Respected editor, there is an user name Ravensfire doing wrong edits for increasing his number of edits please review his edits, he is placing random tags on pages for deletation. He is distroying Wikipedia pages. First he remove sources then he is removing data and after 2-3 days he is Using deletation Tag on that pages. I think he is doing this for money. This is not acceptable. Please review his account. This is totally wrong and against to the Wikipedia guidelines. Fahadsamual78 (talk) 05:05, 24 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I do not see any problem in their edits – they're just helping us remove spam and non-notable people from our Wikipedia and their help is definitely appreciated. Fahadsamual78, in future, you should put the template {{AN-notice}} on talk pages of editors who are involved in a topic on the administrators' noticeboard. --Ferien (talk) 21:44, 24 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This is interesting. I'm guessing that many of the articles Fahadsamual78 is complaining about are related to the "IP range advertising" discussion above. Many had similar issues - highly promotional, use of paid articles as sources and sources that never mentioned the article subject or the information they should have supported. After the range was blocked, I've seen articles created by brand new accounts that end in 2 or 3 numbers, with their only edit being a full article created, with sources, correct formatting and decent layout. All being very promotional in tone. I'm wondering if these accounts are all connected, as this feels like a paid editing group. Ravensfire (talk) 18:32, 25 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
An example created today is Deepak Thanwala. Brand new editor, one edit, uses sources, article layout - it's just highly promotional in tone with some questionable sources. Borderline notability, but needs some significant cleaning. With the similar MO as the blocked IP range, maybe a CU could look into this? Ravensfire (talk) 20:11, 25 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Main Page Idea

What if we made an "On This Day" section of the Main Page, like on enwiki? I think it could be an interesting idea. QuicoleJR (talk) 23:20, 24 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It'd be nice, but I'm not sure if it would work. If we were to have the same facts as enwiki's today, only 2 of the bold articles in the facts out of 5 exist here. It appears it would be a little better than DYK in terms of maintenance as once we've done all the dates for a year, we would only have to occasionally update them, but actually getting a good amount of articles for all those dates in the first place would be challenging. --Ferien (talk) 23:44, 24 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see. Maybe when the site reaches 100K articles we can revisit this idea. QuicoleJR (talk) 12:36, 25 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Well, we do currently have 232,467 articles right now but it's more whether those articles are on topics that would work for On This Day, and whether those articles are a good quality to be on the main page. --Ferien (talk) 12:38, 25 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Tvactorcreator

Tvactorcreator has created Chitrak Shah earlier today. It originally was a very promotional article, full of marketing fluff and decidedly not simple english. It was tagged for speedy deletion by myself and an IP editor, both times removed by TVactorcreator. I did some cleanup on the article and added a notability tag. TVactorcreator removed that and we've gone back and forth over the tag, with some discussions on both of our talk page here and here. Would someone mind taking a look at this? From TVactorcreator's comments, they aren't willing to discuss this matter and will continue the disruptive editing. Thanks. Ravensfire (talk) 20:36, 25 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I see, IP address & you both are the same person. I may have added less sources, but the subject is country’s biggest developer of state in real estate. So he’s definitely notable. I agreed to your removal as I generated it through AI from news articles in the media, you can google Chitrak Shah and check under news section. Thats all, considering @Ravensfire edits he’s been only doing the tags and edits no contributions creatively. Tvactorcreator (talk) 20:41, 25 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Tvactorcreator Except that the subject, as far as I can see, fails the general notability criteria. I have opened an RfD. — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 22:11, 25 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have been looking for information on plagiarism on Simple English Wikipedia. Is there a policy or guideline that I could view? Barbara (talk) 21:20, 25 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Barbara (WVS) While not addressing or mentioning plagiarism verbatim, there is a policy on copyright and copying content from Wikipedia (whether it's the Simple English Wikipedia or another Wikimedia project). Before renaming the page included an extra disambiguator, so I moved but at a close timing the redirect was deleted as QD G11, so I thought the same thing can be said for this page, but an IP user is repeating QD tag removal. MathXplore (talk) 09:49, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

There's an interesting comment from the IP in the history. "We are adding awards and achievements." I don't think that's an accident. Layout is similar to the IP ranges mentioned in "IP range advertising" above. Some odd sources- the Switzerland Post? Looking deeper, many of the "sources" are the same article, a clearly paid marketing piece. Most of these are pure junk sources masquerading as a real news site. This should be deleted. Ravensfire (talk) 11:50, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nearly every source was the same paid marketing article. I've pruned them out, removed the unsourced fluff and tagged as G11 (again). Ravensfire (talk) 13:53, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Quite a few people have expressed concern over the following comment from Rathfelder on Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/2023/Category:Cancer survivors:

Delete. All these people will die in the end. Rathfelder (talk) 14:49, 20 June 2023 (UTC)

Since then, both Illusion Flame and Bobherry have responded calling the comment harsh and after I closed the RfD, Davey2010 removed the !vote from Rathfelder and its replies. I have since reverted that removal, as the discussion is closed. From my POV, I did see the comment and the opposition it attracted while closing, but I did extend WP:AGF quite a bit, thinking that they did not word it the way they wanted it to be worded, and therefore didn't end up commenting on it in my closure. As this comment has attracted quite a bit of opposition already, I'm bringing it here to see if anyone thinks action against Rathfelder is necessary, but they haven't responded to any comment yet, perhaps because there have been no notifications given to them at this point. --Ferien (talk) 20:35, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I really don’t think anything but a warning is needed here. Seems to be like a case of a misunderstanding that came off different than how the author intended. It was definitely rude and uncalled for, but I don’t think we need to take action on this, besides a warning. I’d like to hear others opinions though. Illusion Flame (talk) 20:39, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
My reading of their comment at the time was "they will all die from their cancer(s) eventually" which I found incredibly disrespectful and tasteless however having re-read it the author may have actually been saying it as in "we're all going to die eventually" which is true we will. Certainly could've been worded better but given it leaves their comment open to interpretation I still believe it should be removed (or Rathfielder should amend it). Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 20:47, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The discussion is closed now, so edits to it will be reverted.(I think) Illusion Flame (talk) 20:50, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Although discussions are closed that doesn't mean comments cannot be amended or removed. But anyway if we've all misunderstood Rath then best case scenario would be to reword the !vote and remove the replies –Davey2010Talk 20:54, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I’d like an admin to clarify here and for @Rathfelder to comment as well. Illusion Flame (talk) 20:55, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Illusion Flame, what needs to be clarified? --Ferien (talk) 20:59, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Whether the closed discussion can be edited to amend the comment. Illusion Flame (talk) 21:04, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If there's a consensus that that's necessary then WP:IAR surely. Editing a closed discussion to clarify your own opinion shouldn't be that big of a deal? --Ferien (talk) 21:05, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed, just thought it best to clarify before @Rathfelder replies. Illusion Flame (talk) 21:06, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Most likely a misunderstanding, I've never had any issue with Rathfelder and they've always seemed to be nice. FatalFit | ✉   20:59, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
What I meant, and I was clearly too abrupt, is that classifying people as survivors - of anything- doesnt seem like a good idea. Survival is not a permanent state. I didnt intend to upset anyone and I apologise to those I did. Rathfelder (talk) 21:44, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That’s a good enough explanation for me. 😊 Anyone else disagree? Illusion Flame (talk) 21:47, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I say a warning is needed as it clearly breaks policy. The comment was completely unneeded. Bobherry Talk My Changes 21:59, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Can someone explain what policy I broke? Is it wrong to say that all humans are mortal? Rathfelder (talk) 21:38, 27 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Bobherry Rathfelder has apologized and I see any further escalation (warning, block, etc) as unnecessary. The comment may have been pointy or harsh, and it could have been phrased in a better way. I don't think pointing out human mortality is breaking any policy. This issue is resolved from what I see. — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 21:55, 27 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

In delinting some pages, I've found that having a regexp based search and replace would be useful.

The script I use over on English Wikipedia is the one I'm most familar with:- en:wikisource:User:Inductiveload/maintain.

This script cannot be called cross-wiki, as it has some dependencies which need to be installed locally. Would it be possible for an interface admin to evaluate the script concerned, and make any appropriate imports needed so that I can make use of it locally? AE3907 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log)

This user started editing here on 15 May. Since then, every one of their edits has been made to their userspace. They've been using their userspace as a personal sandbox of sorts. Some of their edits include inventing alternate historical events: User:AE3907/World War 3 or 4 or 5. As can be seen here at their talk page, I've asked them twice to stop, but this hasn't slowed them down, and now they've uploaded this alternate historical map of a future world war: File:World map 3,4 and 5.png. I think that, per WP:NOTHERE, their editing behavior is not consistent with Simple English WP's guidelines. NytharT.C 13:42, 9 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

To be fair, some of those entries are interesting and have potential, plus they are in userspace. I would encourage an administrator to look at the individual subpages and see which ones, if any, should be deleted. This is nowhere near as bad as someone creating bad articles, as it is in userspace. Blissyu2 (talk) 14:05, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • This thread was archived by a bot. In the meantime, AE3907 has continued to make edits only to their userspace. Their edits and pages indicate they're writing alternate history or future events they predict may take place. Either way, their editing behavior indicates they are NOTHERE. I noticed that the "Durra gas field" article has undergone changes and the word "Iran" has been removed from it. Considering the political tension in the region related to this gas field, these changes are most likely targeted and purposeful.

IPs 46.84.97.49 and 51.235.115.246 have made these changes, but this type of change (or sabotage or fight) can be seen in the history of this page.
