This is the place to request sockpuppet checks or other investigations requiring CheckUser privilege. Checkuser is a last resort for difficult cases. Use other methods first. See suggested solutions below; or see Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets (WP:SSP).
Acceptable requests If you do not follow the below format exactly, and do not provide the supporting evidence, your check will not be carried out
Code
Situation
Solution and supporting evidence required
A
Request to identify and block the IP addresses responsible for blatant vandalism and attack accounts
You may contact the Arbitration Committee, but due to legal and privacy concerns be advised that such access is granted by invitation only.
Procedure
List your request using the "To request a check:" input box below. Carefully fill-in the template that will appear when you click the "Request a checkuser" button.
Make sure to choose one code letter that most closely applies to your request. No code letter, no check.
Indicate the usernames you suspect, using {{checkuser}}. Please do not use this template in the section header, as that makes it difficult to read the account names.
Include the diffs or links required for the code letter you have chosen.
Sign your request.
If you add your request to the top of the list Outstanding Requests, use the template {{Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/CASENAMEHERE}}. Otherwise, a clerk will shortly list the request for you.
The privacy policy does not allow us to make a check that has the effect of revealing IP addresses.
There are clerks to assist you and help with maintenance of the page.
Responses will be brief in order to comply with Wikipedia privacy policy.
Due to technical factors, results are not always clear.
Check back regularly to see the outcome of your request. In most cases, any block or other action based on the outcome will not be taken by the checkuser-people or the clerks. Instead, you will have to do this yourself.
This page is currently inactive and is retained for historical reference. Either the page is no longer relevant or consensus on its purpose has become unclear. To revive discussion, seek broader input via a forum such as the village pump.
If a case subpage already exists, edit the existing page instead, either adding to the currently open section (if the case is not yet archived) or adding a new section to the top (if the case has been archived). When editing an existing case, be sure to list it here or add Category:Checkuser requests to be listed to the subpage.
If creating a new case subpage, add the name of the main account (or "puppetmaster", not the sockpuppet!) in the box below. Leave out the "User:" prefix. Do not remove the text in the box, add the name to the end only (that is, append the name to the existing text). Then press "Request a checkuser" and you will be taken to a page where you can fill out the request.
Example: if you want to request a checkuser on User:John Doe, enter the text: Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/John Doe
