Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Wrestling

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Wrestling. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Wrestling|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Wrestling. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
Further information
For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

Seems to be original research and fancruft. BinaryBrainBug (talk) 08:34, 14 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I am also nominating the following related pages because of the same reason as bundle AFD:

List of WWE male wrestlers born outside the United States (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
List of NJPW male wrestlers born outside Japan (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
List of WWE female wrestlers born outside the United States (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

This article seems like a promotional bio rather than an Wikipedia page, which violates WP:NPOV policy. It may have been created by someone connected to the subject possibly WP:COI. 𝒮-𝒜𝓊𝓇𝒶 04:02, 11 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Zuck28 Thank you for definitely improving the article and for finding his results at the UWW website (as Jointy Kumar). Sadly, the correct information shows him to be less notable than the original article claimed. See my vote below for details. Papaursa (talk) 18:56, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete None of the coverage seems to be what I would call significant. Some of the references don't even mention him and most are either results or he's included a list of names of Indian competitors headed for competitions. None of the that shows me he meets WP:GNG or WP:ANYBIO. As for his wrestling results, he's currently ranked #41 in the world in his division. He has never competed in a senior (non-junior) world championship and lost his only match at the 2022 under 20 world championships. As an adult he has twice competed at the Asian wrestling championships with only 1 victory. None of this seems to meet any WP notability criteria. Papaursa (talk) 18:56, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
1 can be considered significant coverage. Also all the sources certainly mentions the subject, it is just that the spelling of the name is different.
Representing a country on the international level and notable tournaments and winning of the title Bharat Kesri Dangal should also not be overlooked.

  • Delete, tellingly, Newspapers.com has nothing, and searches of other databases did not find reliable sources with sigcov. Subject does not meet GNG. The sources are mostly not independent (press releases, interviews, a paper written by the subject, company profiles). The ToI article [3] might be sigcov of a company he founded, but the only parts about the subject are quotes from him. This [4] contains a four-sentence mention but really isn't focused on him. The only information I can find in Swiss media is that a person with his exact full name seems to have opened a Subway sandwich store in Langenthal, but the coverage all comes from one source (Berner Zeitung) and is mostly quotes. There are also two hits for his name in reports on judo competitions, far from sigcov. Toadspike [Talk] 15:21, 8 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Another fancraft article just like Secondary championships in All Elite Wrestling. Relevant content exist already on several other articles such as List of former championships in WWE. BinaryBrainBug (talk) 09:42, 8 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Actually your argument proves why this article should be deleted. The age of article does not matter at all. Some articles remain for several years on WP, and then someday the community decide to delete them. You created this article in 4 December 2023, so you had plenty of time to improve it (which I doubt it, because the topic itself is redundant). If you think those articles have similar issues like yours, feel free to nominate them for deletion. --Mann Mann (talk) 02:24, 15 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You guys are correct, I recognize that I let my soft spot for this article overtake logic and I apologize. I do think the other ones should be put up for deletion as well, it's just saddening to see it go. Selar0m (talk) 05:44, 15 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

No notable independent pro wrestling event. Just one source in the article. Quick search shows just a few WP:ROUTINE results. HHH Pedrigree (talk) 11:23, 6 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The reason why I put up the article was because this was the revival of Dragon Gate USA under the control of Dragon Gate. My apologies for not including any other sources but I've fixed it. Added a source for the results BTW. Unknownuser45266 (talk) 02:21, 7 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Unknownuser45266: The sources you added are still not WP:RS or WP:SIGCOV. They are just the results, which I believe comes under WP:ROUTINE ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 14:22, 10 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
