A barnstar for you!

The Anti-Spam Barnstar
Yeah, I'm aware I've given you many of these, but this one is also well deserved. I pay attention to CSD stuff a good bit, and I've seen you active in removing spam/advertising/promotion, and I wanted to make sure your efforts didn't go unnoticed! SPF121188 (talk this way) (contribs) 18:19, 4 October 2022 (UTC)
Hey @Spf121188, thank you for noticing and going out of your way to give this to me. It's a beauty of a barnstar and it's very much appreciated. Hey man im josh (talk) 21:08, 4 October 2022 (UTC)

Thank you!

Hello, Hey man im josh,

Thank you for your help tagging expiring drafts today. Ordinarily, we have about 200 drafts expiring each day but on April 4th, 2022, an admin went through and did a lot of fast corrections of many drafts and our list today has 500+ drafts so it's more than double our regular size. I know it's kind of a tedious task to tag pages and post talk page notices so I appreciate the extra help. The bulk of the extra taggings should be done by 21:00 UTC. Thanks again for the assistance! Liz Read! Talk! 19:35, 4 October 2022 (UTC)

Hey @Liz, always nice to hear from you.
I did think there were quite a few more today but not that many more, wow! Once I saw who the cause of that was it made a lot of sense. I'm always happy to help and your encouragement is appreciated. I'm just grateful for the scripters of the community, otherwise I'm not sure I'd have the interest in this task that I do. Hey man im josh (talk) 21:14, 4 October 2022 (UTC)

Odd closure at AfC...

... not by you, I hasten to add, but as you're evidently a page regular, any insight as to what's happened at Wikipedia:Articles for creation/Redirects and categories#Redirect request: WP:SELFSERVING? 109.255.211.6 (talk) 19:11, 4 October 2022 (UTC)

Hey @109.225.211.6, it looks like they've reversed their action. Personally I've left it for someone else to decide on because I've worried it's an ambiguous title that could be better suited for another destination. However I don't feel strongly enough to deny it, so I've left it be for someone else to make the decision on. The user who processed the request, to be frank, probably isn't experienced enough to be participating on the processing end of the requests, so I'm glad they've self reverted. Hey man im josh (talk) 21:11, 4 October 2022 (UTC)
They didn't self-revert, that was Qwerfjkl, in this edit. The first user restored their close, which I have now reverted. They explained their closure here, but their explanation makes no sense, either... I am not sure the redirect is a good idea, and will comment on that in the thread (I'm not a regular on that page ao am not sure what the procedure is for deciding and closing), but whoever closes it should show a modicum of clue. --bonadea contributions talk 08:19, 5 October 2022 (UTC)
Sorry, you're right @Bonadea, thanks for catching that. Qwerfjkl is an experienced user and more experienced with that board than I am, so I trust their revert. Though, despite their re-opening of the request, they did not create the redirect, which leads me to believe they too may be on the fence. Unfortunately, as mentioned, that user who originally declined the request isn't very experienced, so they may not know all the things they should take into account or how to properly convey the rationale for their decision. Hey man im josh (talk) 11:50, 5 October 2022 (UTC)
(ec)Maybe the 'target' page is the better place for the discussion, especially if it's a thornier request than the typical redirect? Feel free to 'deny without prejudice' if it's going to clog up the AfC subpage unduly. The "closer's" explanation seems to be the same as their original one, and I'm likewise unable to penetrate its meaning, if applicable. Thanks for the your input, both! 109.255.211.6 (talk) 11:57, 5 October 2022 (UTC)
@SpyridisioAnnis, please don't close requests without providing a clear reason, in line with Wikipedia's policies on redirects, and the comments above.
As to the validity of the request, per 65.92's comment it seems ambiguous, so I'd say it should be declined. — Qwerfjkltalk 15:24, 5 October 2022 (UTC)

Accidental reversion

Sorry about that, tried to revert at the same time as you. I'll clean it up now, interface was running slowly and I clicked a bit too hastily. Redactyll Talk page 16:27, 5 October 2022 (UTC)

Hey @Redactyll, not a problem. Edit conflicts and mistakes happen all the time. I appreciate you reaching out to clear it up, as I was confused and about to reach out myself! Hey man im josh (talk) 16:29, 5 October 2022 (UTC)

Python Drink (talk) 23:37, 6 October 2022 (UTC)

@Python Drink, why did you post this on my page? My only edit to that page was removing a parameter from the infobox based on a request at Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/Tasks. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:23, 7 October 2022 (UTC)
@Hey man im josh: yeah I know you're not a major contributor to the page but I just felt to call an experienced editor. Sorry if you felt disturbed — Python Drink (talk) 15:29, 7 October 2022 (UTC)
No problem @Python Drink, I understand you had good intentions. For future reference, the only requirement is to alert the page creator, but it's a good practice to alert major contributors (of which I was not one in this case). Again though, totally okay because I understand it was done in good faith. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:30, 7 October 2022 (UTC)

Privybst redirects

Hey man, I'm cleaning-up after Privybst who has been confirmed to be a sockpuppet of Dolyn. I have been deleting some of their redirects per WP:G5, but I noticed that you added an RCAT to a lot of them. Normally adding a category to an article would not be considered a "substantial edit", but with redirects I can certainly see the case for it since there's not much else you can do with them. So I'll leave it up to you: is it okay with you if Privybst's redirects that you edited are deleted per WP:G5 or would you prefer they are kept? -- Tavix (talk) 23:00, 8 October 2022 (UTC)

@Tavix I actually think that despite the user being a sock, the redirects they created that I reviewed were valid and should be kept. But I understand that some prefer to undo everything done by socks. If I understand right, it's to try to discourage socks. Hey man im josh (talk) 23:26, 8 October 2022 (UTC)
Yes, the idea is that if their contributions are deleted or rolled back, they will be less motivated to continue socking knowing that their contributions won't stick. Dolyn in particular has been prolific, check out their SPI page! -- Tavix (talk) 23:44, 8 October 2022 (UTC)
@Tavix, based on their history I don't think deleting the redirects will deter them. As I said, I do believe the ones I reviewed to be valid. Hey man im josh (talk) 01:37, 9 October 2022 (UTC)

Hey Can You Revert This?

I Have Found Out That You Switched My Review Of A Redirect From Declined To Accepted. You Got To Remove The Redirects And Then Change It To Declined SpyridisioAnnis (talk) 01:52, 9 October 2022 (UTC)

@SpyridisioAnnis why would I have to do that? Your decline reason was not a valid reason. It was a valid request. You're welcome to nominate the created redirects for deletion if you don't believe them to be valid. Hey man im josh (talk) 02:02, 9 October 2022 (UTC)
It WAS Invalid Because The User Who Requested This Put More Redirect Requests With The Same Name And That Counts As Vandalism SpyridisioAnnis (talk) 07:55, 9 October 2022 (UTC)
@SpyridisioAnnis, I don't think you should be participating in that board if you believe that was vandalism. Hey man im josh (talk) 14:57, 9 October 2022 (UTC)

Indian Ports Association

Hi Hey man im josh. Hope you are keeping well. I observe you had deleted this article as I was taking time to update it with content and reliable sources. Can I request you to restore it to continue editing it. I feel Its a good practice to give the editor an opportunity to edit before deletion. Thanking you in advance. Gardenkur (talk) 03:32, 8 October 2022 (UTC)

Hey @Gardenkur, you can request undeletion at WP:REFUND. For reference, I have no power to delete or restore articles, just to tag them for deletion for administrator review. I nominated the article for deletion based on it having been 6 months since the last edit. An admin then reviewed it and deleted the page. Hey man im josh (talk) 14:59, 9 October 2022 (UTC)

Hi Hey man im josh. Thanks again for the prompt response. Gardenkur (talk) 15:18, 9 October 2022 (UTC)

@Anaxial, could you explain why you unreviewed the page and subsequently marked it as reviewed without any changes? Hey man im josh (talk) 17:32, 9 October 2022 (UTC)
Certainly - I hit the wrong key on my computer. Anaxial (talk) 19:37, 9 October 2022 (UTC)
@Anaxial no problem. I've done it a few times myself so I understand how easy it is to do. Thanks for getting back to me. Hey man im josh (talk) 20:40, 9 October 2022 (UTC)

There is information that someone maliciously put out, information that is in fact copywritten by my organization that i cant delete. Recently we have removed members from our organization that may have done this. @Gilnycortes, there are quite a few sources in the content that you're trying to remove. With that said, you're best bet is probably to look towards Wikipedia:Request for immediate removal of copyright violation. Hey man im josh (talk) 02:13, 13 October 2022 (UTC)

List of Mars Ravelo's Darna (2022 TV series) episodes

I noticed that you added a tag for this page that I update on weekdays. All sources used for the page are the best from the Internet. The sources for the ratings of each episodes are also reputable as it came from the official accounts of GMA (which is media giant and one of the biggest sources for information, news and entertainment in the Philippines), since they're the only once reporting for the ratings of each episodes.

Rest assured if there is any available reliable website links other than what they post on their official accounts, I will immediately replaced or add them respectively since I actively update the page almost everyday. Thank you. Loibird90 (talk) 01:50, 14 October 2022 (UTC)

Hey @Loibird90, you do have quite a few references on the page, but I added that tag because of the quality of many of those references. Of the 50 references, at least 43 of them are considered WP:unreliable sources. You have 41 Twitter references (see WP:RSPTwitter) and 2 YouTube references (WP:RSPYouTube), which are both considered to be unreliable sources. Hey man im josh (talk) 12:12, 14 October 2022 (UTC)

The two YouTube references is where the episodes are uploaded (permanent for cut/edited clips and short periods of time for full episodes.) which is stated in the lead.

The Twitter sources are used to track the daily ratings of the series as media outlets only make articles about ratings during pilot week, ending (or special episodes). If there's any other sources that can be used other than the Official Twitter accounts of GMA (one of the most reputable sources for news and information) who reports it daily during weekdays, the existing is either replaced or added as a second source or so. Reviewing G13s

Hi Josh, I noticed you sometimes review G13 eligible drafts. You may be already be aware but just in case, if you come across ones that seem to have some potential you can tag them with the {{promising draft}} template which will prevent deletion for at least another six months and place them in Category:Promising draft articles. There have been drafts I tagged improved by other editors and become articles. Another tip is if the subject is covered in another article, you can create redirects from the draft which maintains the history (blank then redirect). Also, thank you for all the work you do around here. I see you "around" quite often. S0091 (talk) 18:27, 14 October 2022 (UTC)

I wasn't aware of the promising draft template so thank you for bringing that to my attention. I've usually seen deletions pushed back by completing minor edits, but this adds a nice alternative.
Thanks for reaching out. I recognize you and I thought I'd take this opportunity to thank you for all that you do as well @S0091 =) Hey man im josh (talk) 18:31, 14 October 2022 (UTC)

Speedy deletion notification.

Hey, sorry to bother you but I am pretty new to Wikipedia and I could use some help. I wrote a page on my user page because I was trying to figure out how to add links and stuff, and then almost immediately got a notification saying that it was going to get deleted. It is not my intention to actually post this page to Wikipedia, did I break the Wikipedia rules by having this article on my user page, and if so is there any way that I can just experiment with editing without breaking any rules? Mr.Shnickles (talk) 18:27, 14 October 2022 (UTC)

(talk page stalker)Hi @Mr.Shnickles please read through the user page guidelines paying specific attention to WP:UPNOT. If what are you doing is within the acceptable guidelines, you can use your sandbox to practice editing. For example User:Mr.Shnickles/Sandbox (click on link, type something then publish to create the page). S0091 (talk) 18:36, 14 October 2022 (UTC)
Thanks S0091. I removed the tag from your page since you wiped it/ As S0091 said, the best place for practicing is in your own personal sandbox. Hey man im josh (talk) 18:55, 14 October 2022 (UTC)

Mistaken original reviewer for Strike a pose

Hello, Hey man im josh! Under Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Backlog drives/October 2022/Re-reviews#Hey man im josh, you have misidentified me as the original reviewer of Strike a pose. It was WaddlesJP13 who marked that page as reviewed, not me. So, please make the correction as soon as possible. GeoffreyT2000 (talk) 23:12, 14 October 2022 (UTC)

Oh, but I did mark the redirect Strike a Pose (song) as reviewed. Listing the target page instead causes confusion. So, ignore the above message, then. GeoffreyT2000 (talk) 23:16, 14 October 2022 (UTC)
Hey @GeoffreyT2000, thanks for letting me know. Sorry about that. I've made the correction. Hey man im josh (talk) 00:48, 15 October 2022 (UTC)

"automatically reported by Huggle"

Maybe there are different versions of Huggle, or different settings to make AIV reports automatically, but when I get past level 4 on a user, it gives me a huge dialog box to look at all of the diffs from the user being reported, which I verify (and include in the report) before submitting it. jp×g 16:22, 17 October 2022 (UTC)

Hey @JPxG, are you asking how to do this? I'm using Huggle version 3.4.10 build: 3880. Under System -> Options -> Warnings tab -> there's a box for "Automatically report users to AIV page". It's the 4th box from the top for me. Hey man im josh (talk) 18:35, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
Oh, I mean, you'd added that to my AIV report (I don't know if it was a script or something), but I do go over my reports before I send them ;^) jp×g 18:43, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
Ohhhh!!! I understand now what you mean now and I can understand the confusion @JPxG.
I think there's an issue with Huggle detecting reports at WP:AIV that were created before the program was opened. It detects new reports for other users just fine, just seemingly not existing ones. So Huggle creates a new report and HBC AIV helperbot5 will usually end up combining duplicate reports. It doesn't happen too often, but unfortunately I'm not aware of a way to fix the issue. Luckily the worst that ends up happening is there's a duplicate report that the bot ends up handling. Hey man im josh (talk) 18:51, 17 October 2022 (UTC)

The page creator of this doesn't match any of the names indicated by the speedy tag. Did you miss? - UtherSRG (talk) 01:28, 18 October 2022 (UTC)

Hey @UtherSRG, I don't believe I missed. It was created by User:Lacipetom who was a sock of User:پارسا آملی. I believe I'm supposed to tag pages with the puppeteer and not the sock, which is what I believe I did. Any clarification would be appreciated, as I can't see the now deleted page to see how I tagged it. Hey man im josh (talk) 14:33, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
Looks like user:Liz fixed it, you had Baba1031. All good. - UtherSRG (talk) 14:52, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
Definitely a mistarget then, thank you for letting me know and thanks to Liz for fixing who was tagged. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:04, 18 October 2022 (UTC)

Bob Whitcomb Racing moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Bob Whitcomb Racing, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Hey man im josh (talk) 11:30, 19 September 2022 (UTC)

What do you think of it now?

Hey @Guroadrunner, you made some significant improvements, good job! I see you've submitted it for review, so I expect the AfC team will provide accept the draft, or decline with feedback on what still needs to be done at their earliest convenience.
Thanks! If they decline are there more opportunities to make improvements? Guroadrunner (talk) 08:13, 8 October 2022 (UTC)
@Guroadrunner, I'm so sorry! I just realized I never responded to this. Yes, you can submit as many times as you need. The reviewers will provide feedback on what needs to be addressed in order to make it suitable for the main article space. Hey man im josh (talk) 13:19, 20 October 2022 (UTC)

What's up with this? Created via AfC/R and then 5 minutes later tagged for deletion? - UtherSRG (talk) 00:06, 21 October 2022 (UTC)

Hey @UtherSRG. I was looking over requests at WP:AFC/R and I realized, after having processed that request, it had been made by an IP associated with the LTA case at WP:HKGW. Given that the request related to Honk Kong geography and there were several other Hong Kong related requests from that IP in the same edit, I declined the remaining requests they had made here. I wanted to deleted that redirect and update the request to declined based on LTA. Hey man im josh (talk) 00:12, 21 October 2022 (UTC)
Yeah, I wouldn't have had to ask if the request for this one had been updated with and "ooops" note. No worries. :) - UtherSRG (talk) 00:16, 21 October 2022 (UTC)

Blue Dwarf Page Speedy Deletion

Josh, I don't understand why a Blue Dwarf forum page is not closely related to Wikipedia's goals, when Wikipedia contains pages for dozens of other obscure forums and provides links to them here: List of Internet forums . For example, how is a Blue Dwarf page any less related to Wikipedia's goals than the Dogster page: Dogster , which also has a link on Wikipedia's list of Internet forums? Gray453 (talk) 19:00, 19 October 2022 (UTC)

Hey @Gray453. I can't see the deleted page, so I can't exactly recall what was on the page but I nominated your page for deletion based on section U5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Were you attempting to create an article for Blue Dwarf? If so, it must not have appeared that way to be when I came across it. If the forum is notable there's no reason you can't go ahead and create a page for it if you so wish. If so, I'd advise you to create it a draft at Draft:Blue Dwarf. Hey man im josh (talk) 13:26, 20 October 2022 (UTC)
Here is the text that I submitted (not including the links):
"Blue Dwarf is an Internet forum founded on the ideas surrounding the small Internet movement[1]. Those in the movement believe that the Internet should prioritize the needs of people at least as highly as those of corporations. This means the Internet should be providing a better experience for its users. Blue Dwarf has very few images, no advertising, and no tracking. This allows its pages to load quickly even on older computers and over slower Internet connections. The forum's use of a single Raspberry Pi 3 web server demonstrates that a simple, efficient website format and good software design can provide a positive user experience even on inexpensive low-power hardware. The forum tries to encourage a feeling of community while also supporting free speech. Users are expected to practice civility."
Are you saying you have no problem with me submitting it again? Should I rewrite it in some way to make it more consistent with the goals of Wikipedia? Gray453 (talk) 17:50, 20 October 2022 (UTC)
Hey @Gray453. So long as you add reliable sources and create the page in a draft while it's a work in progress, instead of your userpage located at User:Gray453, I don't see why you won't be able to get a page published. You can submit a draft for review and the reviewers will tell you what needs to be fixed before it can be published. Hey man im josh (talk) 17:53, 20 October 2022 (UTC)
Thanks Josh. I'll do that. Gray453 (talk) 15:41, 21 October 2022 (UTC)
I'm gonna chime in here if you don't mind, Josh.
@Gray453: - Since the article you want is intended to belong in a list of similar articles, it would be good to read through some of them to see how what you have written above doesn't currently fit as an article, even if the topic would make a good article. Josh mentioned reliable sources; this is vital in helping to provide a neutral point of view. We're not here to create an article that has only the good stuff about a topic, but about all aspects. So if you find sources that criticize something the topic has done, sometimes those are the better sources to include or at least not shy away from. And yeah, hit this link Draft Blue Dwarf and paste your text there to start off. Good luck! We really are all routing for ya! - UtherSRG (talk) 18:02, 20 October 2022 (UTC)
Thanks @UtherSRG, I'll never mind helpful chime ins =) Hey man im josh (talk) 18:04, 20 October 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for the advice @UtherSRG. Gray453 (talk) 15:42, 21 October 2022 (UTC)

Hey @Liz, that's funny timing. I'm finishing filling them all right now. Exactly 150 templates left to categorize with AWB as of this reply.
I didn't want to meatbot and overspam, then I had to step away, so it took a bit longer than initially expected. Sorry about that. Hey man im josh (talk) 01:15, 22 October 2022 (UTC)

Early end of the backlog drive

A few days ago, new page patrollers got the backlog to zero. Due to the unprecedented success of the backlog drive, it will be ending early—at the end of 24 October, or in approximately two hours.

Barnstars will be awarded as soon as the coords can tally the results. Streak awards will be allocated based on the first three weeks of the drive, with the last three days being counted as part of week three.

Great work everyone! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:50, 24 October 2022 (UTC)

Hi

Hello Josh, I hope you are well.

This is the first article I have ever tired to edit on Wikipedia.

I did not know I had to add sources but I am happy to do so. However my IP has been blocked for 2 years so I can no longer add the sources.

I also think it is very harsh to block me for two years because I thought I wanted to provide some interesting information that I think people would like to read. There was also nothing wrong with the content of my information that would warrant a two year ban due to the reason of me not providing any sources. 85.210.207.107 (talk) 15:10, 21 October 2022 (UTC)

Hey @85.210.207.107. If you're editing now that means you're not blocked, which is a good sign. I encourage you to register an account and then, if your IP is blocked again, you can request an IP block exemption.
It's okay that you didn't know about adding sources, we all have to start somewhere, right? Start by adding reliable sources for content that you add to articles. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:15, 21 October 2022 (UTC)

Please help me to publish this on Wikipedia R.C. chaudhary poet (talk) 12:50, 25 October 2022 (UTC)

Hey @R.C. chaudhary poet, I added a submission template to your draft so you can submit it for review. However, I have to warn you, it will get rejected based on its current formatting and lack of reliable sources. I encourage you to work on your draft further before submitting and to visit Wikipedia:Tutorial to learn more about improving your article so that it would get accepted. Why?? 2A00:23EE:1320:392C:D953:3E0D:9B6C:9552 (talk) 16:33, 25 October 2022 (UTC)

As was mentioned in the warning given to the user who made the change, the content that was added was completely unsourced. Reliable sources are needed for changes such as the one made to the article here. Hey man im josh (talk) 16:37, 25 October 2022 (UTC)

Isaac Tigrett

This is directly from Isaac Tigrett himself, in a conversation I personally had with him. I am Michael Feder, https://www.linkedin.com/in/mifeder/. This direct quote is unedited and reflects Mr. Tigretts true belief, and is also easily researched- NO charges or anything of the sort were ever filed against Sai Baba. So reporting gossip on Wikipedia seems pretty awful, especially given the hospitals and schools that were built by Sai Baba and the foundation... Thanks. 72.193.102.161 (talk) 19:36, 25 October 2022 (UTC)

Wikipedia, regardless of who you claim to be, needs reliable sources. We don't report anything here, we use what's already been reported and try to convey that in a neutral way. Hey man im josh (talk) 19:40, 25 October 2022 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

Yes, I recognize that this is the fourth barnstar I've awarded to you, but this is richly deserved. Question

Regarding the phrase "by suicide", is there evidence it's the prevailing phrasing? I ask because the "agenda" I was referring to was submitting to op-eds that "commit" is a stigmatizing phrase, which it isn't. If there's evidence that "by suicide" is the dominant phrasing I will of course let this go, I just need to push back if the reason you're pushing this phrasing is because it's considered preferable by a minority of certain political/philosophical thinkers. Let me know, I thought commit was more common but I could be wrong. YouCanDoBetter (talk) 18:04, 26 October 2022 (UTC)

Hey @YouCanDoBetter, thanks for following up on the issue, it helped push me to be a bit better informed. See MOS:SUICIDE, both versions are accepted but there has been a push by many to switch to "died by". Some publications' style guides have begun to shift away from, or outright stop using, the phrase of "committed". I'm sorry for the misunderstanding, I won't stop a revert if you would like to restored your preferred version.
I think you're right about committed being more common, but both are acceptable and I think it may end up in the future that it becomes the default phrasing (though this is pure speculation and nothing related to policy). Hey man im josh (talk) 18:23, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
Thank you for the civility, I'm seeing "took his own life" as another option, would that be an acceptable compromise? YouCanDoBetter (talk) 18:33, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
I'm not seeing that phrasing at MOS:SUICIDE so I'm going to say that it would likely fall under WP:EUPHEMISM. As I mentioned, I was reverting it under the belief that "died by" was the preferred terminology, but I now see that's not necessarily the case. So you are free to add back "committed suicide", though your attempts at compromise are very much appreciate (and encouraged). Hey man im josh (talk) 18:37, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
Sounds good. I'll do more research and see if I can find anything definitive, until then I'll just leave it as is. I can tell you're coming from this sincerely, I appreciate it. Have a good one. YouCanDoBetter (talk) 18:43, 26 October 2022 (UTC)

Question

Hello again Josh! I'm sorry to keep bugging you on your talk page (and at the risk of sounding dumb,) just wanted to see if you could help me with something.. If you look at my talk page, I have ClueBot III (I think that's what it's called,) archives my talk page every few weeks, and it looks like it's listing it by month.. Is there a way you can help me archive my talk page the way you have it? That way I can put MUCH more into one archive, rather than having so many listed with less content in each one. I appreciate your help, as always! :) SPF121188 (talk this way) (contribs) 20:15, 25 October 2022 (UTC)

(talk page watcher) @Spf121188: Josh doesn't appear to use ClueBot III to archive their talk page but instead User:Lowercase sigmabot III. You can chekc either the code at the top of Josh's talk page here or my talk page for how to set it up to archive your talk page. Or you can also follow the instructions here. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 20:23, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
Ah! Perfect, thanks Blaze Wolf! I appreciate the help! SPF121188 (talk this way) (contribs) 20:25, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
Hey @Spf121188, I had problems with auto archiving at first as well. I ended up just saying screw it and manually archiving for a while as a result. Recently I got sick of it and copied the code at the top of the page from an admin, I forget which one. But basically I set a page size limit and it auto archives based on that auto numbering them with a default naming system. If you have issues with it let me know, I'll help set it up for you (with appropriate edit summaries for any onlookers). Hey man im josh (talk) 02:04, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
At the risk of sounding stupid again lol... do you think you could lend me a hand with this? I'm not 100% confident in doing it correctly. Facepalm at myself lol 13:39, SPF121188 (talk this way) (contribs) 13:39, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
I'm able to help you out. Gimme just a sec. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 13:40, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
@Spf121188: Done. Some things might need to be changed so that the Cluebot archives are still shown however I don't know how to do that myself and the "archive how to" page for Sigmabot doesn't say anything about converting from Cluebot to sigmabot. I've left some instructions in hidden notes next to some of the parameters for you so that you know what to change if you want something to be different. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 13:52, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
Blaze Wolf, thank you for the help! :) I appreciate you both! SPF121188 (talk this way) (contribs) 13:53, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
@Spf121188, just so we're clear, are you looking to move existing archives (of months) instead numbered archived? Or just moving forward? Hey man im josh (talk) 13:54, 26 October 2022 (UTC)

Yep! With the monthly list, it's going to be way too much, so I figure if it's numbered, like you and Blaze Wolf have, I could fit much more into one, if that makes sense. Thanks again!! SPF121188 (talk this way) (contribs) 13:57, 26 October 2022 (UTC)

What are you going to do about your existing archives @Spf121188? Manually merge them? Hey man im josh (talk) 13:58, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
Not gonna lie, I have zero idea how to do that... :( SPF121188 (talk this way) (contribs) 14:00, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
I'm sure there's some way for the existing archives to display in the archive header. I'll look at the template's documentation to see if it mentions anything about doing that. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 14:01, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
@Spf121188: Merge them into your new format, or try to link the old ones? It's up to you but we can help you either way. Personally I'd prefer to migrate the archived text to the new archive format and then CSD the old ones, but that's just me. Hey man im josh (talk) 14:02, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
Yes! If they can be merged into the new format, that would be PERFECT. I'm sorry to cause so much trouble for you guys, but I REALLY do appreciate the help! SPF121188 (talk this way) (contribs) 14:04, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
I'm just manually doing it at the moment. Can you confirm, before I go too far, that 150k is what you want your archive page limit to be? Or would you like it to be something else? Hey man im josh (talk) 14:07, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
That is perfect. Thank you again!!! SPF121188 (talk this way) (contribs) 14:08, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
I've added {{Archives by months}} to the header parameter and it seems to have added a Cluebot index for the monthly archives. I'll ask at WP:VPT or maybe WP:HD if there is a better alternative. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 14:12, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
Aaaaand josh has accidentally just messed it up. Is it alright if I undo what you've done josh? ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 14:13, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
Ahhh man. I was just going to take the easy way out and manually merge them all @Blaze Wolf. Hey man im josh (talk) 14:14, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
While that would work, it just creates a lot more work for us to do. What I've done seems to have worked by adding an "index" link. I might see if I can change that text to say "Cluebot archives" or something so that it can't be confused as an index for the Sigmabot archives. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 14:16, 26 October 2022 (UTC)

I appreciate both of you, taking the time to help. I can't thank you both enough, and I feel like i can't apologize enough for the trouble lol SPF121188 (talk this way) (contribs) 14:17, 26 October 2022 (UTC)

Bah don't mention it, it's no trouble.
@Spf121188, would you like the indexed link that Blaze Wolf added, or would you prefer that they all be merged into your new format? Either way is fine with both of us, I just want us to make sure that we're doing things the way that fits your preference. Hey man im josh (talk) 14:17, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
If they can all be merged into the new format, that would be perfect! :) SPF121188 (talk this way) (contribs) 14:18, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
Eh, fair enough. I was really just trying to limit the amount of work we have to do. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 14:19, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
Alright, I'll resume manual merging. That was a great idea for inclusion though @Blaze Wolf. Definitely gives me an option for recommendations if the conversation comes up again with another user. Hey man im josh (talk) 14:19, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
I literally was just searching through the archive header templates to find one that would work. I didn't even know that adding the template I did in the way I did would result in the index link. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 14:21, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
Alright, all done and merged together. @Spf121188, the "Index" part isn't going to disappear unless you nominate User:ClueBot III/Master Detailed Indices/User talk:Spf121188 for deletion. If you leave it be it may end up causing some confusing, so I do encourage you to do so. Hey man im josh (talk) 14:36, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
Yepppp, I will do that! Also, I assume that it'll auto archive at this point? Just making sure :) SPF121188 (talk this way) (contribs) 14:38, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
Yes it should. I didn't see us discussing it here, so I'll just mention it in case. The current auto archive timer is set to 7 days, so it's up to you whether this, and the page size maximum (currently set to 150k) are suitable for you. Hey man im josh (talk) 14:40, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
The bot will auto archive it at around midnight UTC. That's really the main reason I used sigmabot over cluebot, Cluebot apparently doesn't have an exact time it'll archive. It'll just happen whenever. Sigmabot I know will archive my talk page if it needs to be archived at midnight UTC (around 6/7 PM CDT which is my timezone) ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 14:51, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
Oh ya, also, if you ever want it to stop archiving your talk page temporarily, just comment out the code for the bot at the top. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 14:52, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
@Spf121188, @Blaze Wolf, the easiest way to setup archiving is to use {{subst:Setup auto archiving}} or {{subst:Setup cluebot archiving}}. — Qwerfjkltalk 20:39, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
Wow. That's good to know and way easier. Hey man im josh (talk) 21:12, 26 October 2022 (UTC)

Hi Hey man im josh -- I didn't intend to cast aspersions on anyone else's actions; sorry if it came over that way. I honestly don't know what's best to do with suboptimal submissions like Draft:Pankaj Choudhary (professor); I tend to like giving marginal articles the chance at AfD, but perhaps a quiet death in draftspace is the most economical answer. Cheers, Espresso Addict (talk) 13:21, 2 November 2022 (UTC)

Hey @Espresso Addict, no problem at all, I figured it was probably a misunderstanding but I get a bit paranoid that I've done something wrong (and need to adjust how I handle things) sometimes.
I struggle with articles like those too. Technically it may meet some notability guideline, but is the person actually notable? It's a difficult thing for me because it's all about our interpretations of guidelines and said interpretation changes from person to person. I've found that discussing these situations in our NPP Discord to be helpful, but I usually leave borderline cases for our few most experienced reviewers. I agree with the idea of giving marginal articles a chance at AfD, as others may find or know something that I don't.
But yeah, no hard feelings at all, thanks for reaching out though, I appreciate it. Hey man im josh (talk) 13:28, 2 November 2022 (UTC)

Please don't get angry by my questions 😶 Just curious to know Kingkong76om (talk) 15:24, 2 November 2022 (UTC)

Hey @Kingkong76om, are you planning on improving it? You could copy the page to your sandbox. The sandbox is where test edits are meant to be done, but many people also create drafts of articles there as well. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:27, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
You can also ask questions to the general community, where there are more knowledgeable editors than myself, at Wikipedia:Help desk. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:29, 2 November 2022 (UTC)

So if I make it in sandbox how I will know that it's ready to be in article space Kingkong76om (talk) 15:29, 2 November 2022 (UTC)

Well we can add a template to it that would allow you to submit it to the Articles for Creation team when you feel its ready. They'll review the submission and either move it to the main article space or decline the submission and let you know what needs to be fixed before it's suitable for the main space. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:32, 2 November 2022 (UTC)

and in how many days my main article will get deleted after nomination. I have a question in my mind why it's not get deleted previously when it nominated for deletion? Kingkong76om (talk) 15:36, 2 November 2022 (UTC)

Well usually article at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion will be up for discussion for at least 7 days. This is to allow time for anybody who wants to chime in on the topic to do so. Once 7 days have passed, someone will close the discussion and the article will usually either be kept or deleted, though there are other options such as merge or redirect (but that won't apply in this case). Hey man im josh (talk) 15:38, 2 November 2022 (UTC)

Okay I got thankyou sir Have a nice day.. I will practice more and collect more evidence to create a page Kingkong76om (talk) 15:41, 2 November 2022 (UTC)

Creating awards table

Hey man, I am trying to create an awards table for a draft I took on for the article "High School Musical: The Musical: The Series (season 1)". I've been at it for over an hour and I can't seem to figure out how to start. Do you have any tips or anything that could help me? I really appreciate it. Randazzojj123 (talk) 18:51, 2 November 2022 (UTC)

Hey @Randazzojj123, sorry for the late response. For future reference, you'll probably get quicker responses at WP:Help desk. As for creating the tables, you can find some information at Help:Table. Myy personal recommendation for a newer user would be to copy an existing table from another article and play around with it in your sandbox, as that help page can be a lot all at once. Hey man im josh (talk) 12:07, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
I appreciate it , thanks! Randazzojj123 (talk) 15:00, 3 November 2022 (UTC)

Page of interest to review

Hey @Hey man im josh, I've recently created a new page titled Ryan Y. Park — I think you would be interested in reviewing it.

Thanks so much for reviewing my articles, I get a kick out of seeing the notifications pop up no more than an hour after I create them! GuardianH (talk) 15:48, 3 November 2022 (UTC)

Hey @GuardianH. Thank you for your interest in my interest! I usually focus on reviewing redirects over articles, but I do review some articles. A member of the NPP team will review the page. Given the backlog size, it shouldn't be too long. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:53, 3 November 2022 (UTC)

Hi Josh, was creating this orphan talk page a mistake or am I missing something? OhNoitsJamie Talk 16:51, 3 November 2022 (UTC)

Hey @Ohnoitsjamie, that's funny, I was writing up a message on your talk page when I received a notification for this comment.
There was a request at WP:AFC/R to create SMG4 as a redirect to List of unofficial Mario media#Videos, but unfortunately I'm unable to process it because the page is protected and requires template editor access or higher. I tried to accept the request using a script which automatically generates that as a talk page template, which lead me to finding out the page is protected. Would you be able to help us out with this, or should the link remain red? The request can be found here Hey man im josh (talk) 16:54, 3 November 2022 (UTC)

Russian Red

Hi there, Please don't revert war with vandals again. It is completely pointless if they are an edit warring vandal, like they were, and makes a huge mess of the page history. Follow WP:BRI instead. Thanks, --Ferien (talk) 17:39, 3 November 2022 (UTC)

Hello Ferien. Thank you for reaching out, I'm aware of the premise to not feed the trolls. Hey man im josh (talk) 17:50, 3 November 2022 (UTC)

Wes Moore

Then how do I make the change correctly? Wes Moore is considered a Radical Leftist to everyone but Wikipedia and it's protector's plus Moore is regularly refered to as a Marxist by Fox News which is a reputable source. Thanks wesman Wesman419 (talk) 12:20, 7 November 2022 (UTC)

Hello @Wesman419, Fox News is only considered a reliable source for matters outside of science and politics, per WP:FOXNEWS. You'd have to find other reliable sources from WP:RSP that support your claim. Given the nature of the edit that you want to make, it may be better to take it to the article's talk page after you find better sources that support your claim. Hey man im josh (talk) 12:23, 7 November 2022 (UTC)

A request

At WT:AFC I probably should should have stepped back. I think it is best to let it to the discussion die because arguing with them just eggs them on so it just continues and like I was trying to express its not healthy. It is clear they they don't get it, maybe AGF or maybe they just like to argue. Either way its WP:IDHT or WP:CIR. My request of you is not to engage; not that you are wrong but I think it makes it worse all around. Not to mention your time is better spent doing the other things you do so well. I will not fault you either way. S0091 (talk) 22:37, 8 November 2022 (UTC)

@S0091, no you're right, they're just not picking up what I'm putting down. That was my last post on the topic with that user for all the reasons you mention. There's always a hope you can reach an understanding, by sometimes it just doesn't work out and we're better off moving on. Hey man im josh (talk) 04:03, 9 November 2022 (UTC)

Sam Koch

Hi @Hey man im josh:, regarding the Ravens coaching staff, see below the Ravens official news with header Sam Koch joins Ravens coaching staff.
Sam Koch joins Ravens coaching staff after retirement Therefore kindly revert my edit to include team in the Roster please. Thanks...Ogün Eratalay message 13:49, 9 November 2022 (UTC)

Hey @Ertly, I was aware of that news. However, if someone is not listed on the Ravens' coaching staff then they aren't meant to be included on the template. Being a consultant is not the same as being part of the regular coaching staff. As an example, Koch may have only worked with the special teams during the offseason, or may only come in on occasion with no firm requirements. It happens fairly often where a former player is hired as a consultant and they don't actually do a lot of work.
PS. I saw that you had edited your comment to try to ping me. Editing a comment to include a ping template won't actually ping a user. I don't have a good explanation as to why it won't, but pings only work on new comments. Hey man im josh (talk) 13:59, 9 November 2022 (UTC)
Thank you for the clarification @Hey man im josh:, then I have to consult Ravens team why they hire someone and not include him on the roster :) Thanks...Ogün Eratalay message 14:13, 9 November 2022 (UTC)
@Ertly I think there are more consultants on teams than most of us realize. Sometimes they get hired on as full time coaching staff, other times they stay at the consultant level. Hey man im josh (talk) 14:16, 9 November 2022 (UTC)

US Highway redirects

Why did you repoint all of those redirects, like "US Highway 7", to the generic lists? That is an alternately styled name for "U.S. Highway 7", which differs only in the presence or absence of periods, and that is an alternate name for "U.S. Route 7". "U.S. Highway 7" redirects to "U.S. Route 7", so "US Highway 7" should too. Imzadi 1979  02:40, 10 November 2022 (UTC)

@Imzadi1979, the ambiguous titles point to a location that appropriately disambiguates them instead of giving undue weight to a specific article. "Stylizaton" isn't really the case here. Frankly the U.S. Highway 7, and those in the same format, should also all point to disambiguation targets. Most in that format are over a decade old and, from my brief search, the redirects predate the lists that help to disambiguate the titles. The redirect targets weren't updated after the creation of the relevant lists, though they should be. I targeted those during WP:NPP reviewing. Hey man im josh (talk) 03:01, 10 November 2022 (UTC)
If the redirects were "US highway X", with a lower case, I would agree that they're ambiguous, but the capital in "US Highway X" tells me that we're dealing with a proper name. Your argument about potential ambiguity would also apply to "U.S. Route" and "US Route" as "route" and "highway" are synonyms. If a "US highway" is any highway in the United States, and thus ambiguous, then a "US route" is just as ambiguous.
But instead we have "US Highway" and "US Route", which are equivalent names for the components of the United States Numbered Highway System, and those highways have had the dual naming based on local parlance for the last 96 years, as of Friday's anniversary. (In a state that uses "State Route" in official names, like Ohio, they have "US Routes", and in Michigan where we have "state trunkline highways", we have "US Highways".)
In short, the dotless "US Highway" redirects should follow the dotted "U.S. Highway" redirects and point to the dotted "U.S. Route" articles. Imzadi 1979  03:21, 10 November 2022 (UTC)
@Imzadi1979: Alright, I'll make some time with AWB this morning to swap the redirect target for those pages. I always appreciate when an editor approaches a matter civility and gives a concise explanation. Hey man im josh (talk) 12:40, 10 November 2022 (UTC)
Done: I've changed all of the redirects by that user back to their original destination @Imzadi1979. Hey man im josh (talk) 14:05, 10 November 2022 (UTC)

Thank you Avenger1407 Avenger1407 (talk) 19:08, 11 November 2022 (UTC)

@Avenger1407, if the article is not ready for the main space it should be worked on as a draft until ready. As it stands, the article is a mess and not suitable to remain without significant improvements. You were notified on your talk page that your first iteration was moved to the draft space and can be found at Draft:D. P. Public School Prayagraj. Hey man im josh (talk) 19:11, 11 November 2022 (UTC)

Hello Josh! I would like to discuss with you on a grammatical issue as well as request a third opinion.

Im Robert, by the way! Me and my two friends just started editing Wikipedia. The other two have tried to correct a grammatical error in an article, but it has been reverted. For context, the term "methamphetamine" has been officially changed to "memphatamatine". My other colleagues may have been more informal, but I have done more research for the best approach to this kind of situation. It seems like we and you have encountered a content dispute; I think it is important to request a third opinion so we can see what the best approach should be here, and if we should stick with the old, more known term or not. Thanks for understanding, Josh!

Deletion of Artical

Hello Josh. Due to some actions of yours, an article I published has been deleted. Is there a reason why you believe it needed to be removed? Dead history (talk) 16:19, 14 November 2022 (UTC)

Hello @Dead history. There was a notification left on your talk page regarding the nomination that I made. All nominations are reviewed by an admin who makes the decision on whether to remove the nomination or to delete the nominated page. Hey man im josh (talk) 16:22, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
I looked at that and did not see specific reasoning, is there a reason you believe I'm trying to be a "web host"? Dead history (talk) 16:24, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
I've provided additional information. - UtherSRG (talk) 16:25, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
That's a classification that's sometimes applied to indiscriminate lists of information. If you believed you were creating an article, that should not be done at your primary user page. Hey man im josh (talk) 16:27, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
I tried to make it as a separate article but I'm fairly new to Wikipedia, would it be possible for you to bring back the page to I can paste it into a new article? Dead history (talk) 16:29, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
Some of the new info I posted on your talk includes a link on the Articles for Creation (AfC) process. You should go there. UtherSRG (talk) 16:31, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
so if I were to take the information I had and put it into it's own article, would that be taken down? Dead history (talk) 16:32, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
Quite likely. Please go to WP:AfC to learn about creating new articles. - UtherSRG (talk) 16:33, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
Thank you for the help. Dead history (talk) 16:34, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
Do you know how to access deleted articles? I am trying to copy/paste the information I had into a new article but I can't access it Dead history (talk) 16:40, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
Dead history, you can try contacting the admin who deleted the page, I believe it was Explicit, and see if they will email you the content of the deleted User page. Liz Read! Talk! 20:37, 18 November 2022 (UTC)

Questionable redirect?

Re Wikipedia:Articles for creation/Redirects and categories#Redirect request: Janis Menken, Anna Menken, Nora Menken, I'm inclined to agree with EchidnaLives's comment, though at least they are family, so there isn't really any other target. — Qwerfjkltalk 20:21, 18 November 2022 (UTC)

Hey @Qwerfjkl, I figured the same as the latter part of your comment, that there likely isn't really another target for them at this point in time. One of those "ehhh... I guess" kind of redirects where I just said screw it and accepted it since I didn't see a reason to decline it. I'm open to A7 CSD tagging them if you'd like though. Hey man im josh (talk) 20:36, 18 November 2022 (UTC)
Eh... WP:CHEAP. It might be worth noting this when you accept the request, though. — Qwerfjkltalk 20:37, 18 November 2022 (UTC)
You're right. Thanks for reaching out @Qwerfjkl, I can always do better and appreciated the feedback. Hey man im josh (talk) 20:47, 18 November 2022 (UTC)

Wikispecies redirs

Yay! I made it to the end of the alphabet! :D But those were the easy ones. I still have a bunch of redlinks I have to now investigate at Wikispecies with more intelligence to see if they exist there. As always, thanks for hitting (the bulk of) those reviews! - UtherSRG (talk) 20:00, 14 November 2022 (UTC)

Hey @UtherSRG, sorry for the late reply, I was away on a business trip. It's no problem at all, I'm always happy to help :) Hey man im josh (talk) 18:29, 18 November 2022 (UTC)
I was wondering where you were, Josh! You hadn't tagged expiring drafts for a few days now and I thought you might be taking a WikiBreak. Unfortunately, I've been oversleeping lately and normally, you would have tagged expiring drafts for those hours I was asleep since you are up earlier than I am but they were still there when I logged on to Wikipedia. No problem, it actually looks like you are juggling quite a few projects these days and CSD tagging old draft pages is probably not high on your priority list compared with other assignments you are taking on.
I hope you had a good time away. I wasn't sure in these post-pandemic times, whether people still took business trips! Liz Read! Talk! 20:32, 18 November 2022 (UTC)
Hey @Liz, it feels nice that my absence was noticed! It's not high priority work, you're right, but I still like to help out with tagging a few times a day at least and I'm back at it again now that I'm back home. It's funny, I'm juggling a few things but I'm actually looking for other tasks in new areas to help out out with.
First time since restrictions have lifted that they've sent me away! More to come, but I just hope I get more free upgrades. Best part of my trip was getting to drive a 2022 Dodge Charger for a few days. Hey man im josh (talk) 20:46, 18 November 2022 (UTC)
Heh! And now I'm on a little vacation as my sweetie is in town and I'm trying to spend as much time with her as possible. :) - UtherSRG (talk) 12:19, 19 November 2022 (UTC)

Redirect reviewing

You did a lot today. Recently, you and I have been doing the most redirects. I was wondering how you pick which ones to do. You seem to be doing a lot of semi-recent ones, and not the oldest from early October. I always go to the oldest, because they are slightly more important because they will eventually drop out of the queue. Right now, the drop point is six months, and we are under two months so there really isn't anything urgent. I just feel more comfortable when the end is getting farther from six months rather than closer. If there is some reason you prefer doing newer ones, that is certainly fine and it's great you do so many. But if you don't care, consider starting at the back. I recently finished Oct 1 & 2, but there are around 200 from Oct 3 and I am done for the day. MB 05:18, 22 November 2022 (UTC)

Hey @MB, thanks for reaching out.
I do sometimes work from the back of queue, but I also like to look at the redirects of the people who have the most unreviewed redirects. I was away from reviewing for close to 5 days, so yesterday I mostly worked by filtering for reviewers who had 40+ unreviewed redirects remaining so that I could clear out a bigger chunk, as the queue had grown in my absence. It can be easier and more efficient sometimes to review all batches of redirects crated the same user, as there's usually a theme. I'm also looking to nominate more of these people for redirect autopatroll to help reduce the overall number of redirects needing review.
Edit: I actually also find it annoying that I can't mark pages as patrolled with Capricorn if they're older than a certain age, but that's all the more reason to keep it under said age. Hey man im josh (talk) 12:42, 22 November 2022 (UTC)
I know what you mean. I do the same thing if I find someone who has created several, then I go find all their redirects. MB 13:52, 22 November 2022 (UTC)

Hey @EchidnaLives, no problem. They really aren't a mandatory thing, but I figure when I'm patrolling redirects as part of WP:NPP that I might as well add the rcat shell. I use WP:Capricorn to mark the pages as approved and add the rcat shell with at the same time instead of it being two separate actions, which is I figure, why not? Brian Harvey

Hi Josh, thanks for the message. I dont have any articles to link to for the update as they have no publicity surrounding their relationship with regards to newspapers etc. Nikki has appeared numerous times on Brians youtube channel, there's also plenty of pictures, but i cannot see a way to add that. They've been in a relationship for a fair while now and i feel that the wikipedia page should show this. Supergirlsu (talk) 13:40, 24 November 2022 (UTC)

Hi @Supergirlsu, unfortunately, this is likely considered WP:GOSSIP. Information that isn't verifiable should not be added to the page. Hey man im josh (talk) 13:41, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
It's not gossip. I'm a friend of both Brian and Nikkis. So i know 100% this is very much the truth. Supergirlsu (talk) 13:45, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
What you're suggesting constitutes original research, which is not verifiable. Hey man im josh (talk) 13:48, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
I have a youtube video link where at the beginning B confirms him and Nikki are in a relationship. Would this be acceptable? Supergirlsu (talk) 13:47, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
Find an article from a reliable source that reports on it because unfortunately YouTube is not considered a reliable source. Hey man im josh (talk) 13:53, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
Its actually Brian himself confirming what could be more reliable? Supergirlsu (talk) 13:55, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
Find something outside of social media to add as a source. Hey man im josh (talk) 13:55, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
But it's Brian HIMSELF confirming it! You can see his face on the screen and hear his voice? What is more reliable that the man himself saying 'Yes we are in a relationship'. And trying to suggest an article from the likes of the Sun newspaper is more reliable than the man himself, speaking, on a youtube video is laughable Supergirlsu (talk) 13:57, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
Would you reference a YouTube video for a class assignment? References are not typically in the form of video. If the relationship is notable it will have been reported on. If it hasn't been it's likely not notable. Hey man im josh (talk) 13:59, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
Have you seen Brian in any newspaper lately? I also wouldn't cite a red top in an assignment either but this isn't a class assignment. This is updating a page on a person i happen to know. With factual information backed up with a video by the man himself. This is ridiculous. So you want me to try and set up a newspaper article, just so that this can now be added to his page? Supergirlsu (talk) 14:03, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
So, what I'm hearing, is that this relationship is not notable enough to be included in the article. Not everybody's girlfriend or boyfriend needs to be mentioned. Hey man im josh (talk) 14:06, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
Urm no what the truth is, that B has been out of the public eye for a number of years now due to various personal reasons. I don't understand what your issue is with this addition tbh Supergirlsu (talk) 14:07, 24 November 2022 (UTC)

Yes, sorry for that flurry of CSD C1 notices. That can happen when categories are created before they have articles to fill them or a bunch of articles are deleted. I hope you are having a good weekend! Liz Read! Talk! 21:45, 26 November 2022 (UTC)
All part of the process, no need to apologize for the flurry. After all, it's on me for creating the unnecessary categories. Thanks, I did, and I hope you did as well! Hey man im josh (talk) 14:06, 28 November 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter October 2022

Hello Hey man im josh,

Much has happened since the last newsletter over two months ago. The open letter finished with 444 signatures. The letter was sent to several dozen people at the WMF, and we have heard that it is being discussed but there has been no official reply. A related article appears in the current issue of The Signpost. If you haven't seen it, you should, including the readers' comment section.

Awards: Barnstars were given for the past several years (thanks to MPGuy2824), and we are now all caught up. The 2021 cup went to John B123 for leading with 26,525 article reviews during 2021. To encourage moderate activity, a new "Iron" level barnstar is awarded annually for reviewing 360 articles ("one-a-day"), and 100 reviews earns the "Standard" NPP barnstar. About 90 reviewers received barnstars for each of the years 2018 to 2021 (including the new awards that were given retroactively). All awards issued for every year are listed on the Awards page. Check out the new Hall of Fame also.

Software news: Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have connected with WMF developers who can review and approve patches, so they have been able to fix some bugs, and make other improvements to the Page Curation software. You can see everything that has been fixed recently here. The reviewer report has also been improved.

NPP backlog May – October 15, 2022

Suggestions:

  • There is much enthusiasm over the low backlog, but remember that the "quality and depth of patrolling are more important than speed".
  • Reminder: an article should not be tagged for any kind of deletion for a minimum of 15 minutes after creation and it is often appropriate to wait an hour or more. (from the NPP tutorial)
  • Reviewers should focus their effort where it can do the most good, reviewing articles. Other clean-up tasks that don't require advanced permissions can be left to other editors that routinely improve articles in these ways (creating Talk Pages, specifying projects and ratings, adding categories, etc.) Let's rely on others when it makes the most sense. On the other hand, if you enjoy doing these tasks while reviewing and it keeps you engaged with NPP (or are guiding a newcomer), then by all means continue.
  • This user script puts a link to the feed in your top toolbar.

Backlog:

Saving the best for last: From a July low of 8,500, the backlog climbed back to 11,000 in August and then reversed in September dropping to below 6,000 and continued falling with the October backlog drive to under 1,000, a level not seen in over four years. Keep in mind that there are 2,000 new articles every week, so the number of reviews is far higher than the backlog reduction. To keep the backlog under a thousand, we have to keep reviewing at about half the recent rate!

Reminders
  • Newsletter feedback - please take this short poll about the newsletter.
  • If you're interested in instant messaging and chat rooms, please join us on the New Page Patrol Discord, where you can ask for help and live chat with other patrollers.
  • Please add the project discussion page to your watchlist.
  • If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be a reviewer, please ask any admin to remove you from the group. If you want the tools back again, just ask at PERM.
  • To opt out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

Amdoor

Hey man you’re Josh! Always a pleasure seeing your edits. I put up Amdoor, an article created by the same person as Marrigunta, for an AfD because it doesn’t meet, in my eyes, notability criteria and has a similar reference issue. It was pointed out that at the now corrected lat & long point to a place of some variety with the name Amdoor so potentially WP:GEOA but that seems very tenuous to me. Do you think draftifying it might be a better idea? It’s not something I immediately think of since I don’t have the user right but I was wondering if this might be a good candidate as a middle of the road option if real work can be done. If you have any other suggestion I’m not thinking of after a long day, please let me know! Thanks, Kazamzam (talk) 03:28, 3 December 2022 (UTC)

At this point we should let it play out instead of cancelling the AfD and choosing to draftify it. This one I could lean either way on draftifying, had I had been the first to find it. Hey man im josh (talk) 12:10, 5 December 2022 (UTC)

Given the IPv6 prefix, it looks like User:2a01:4c8:49:57f7:a416:a3ce:1dd7:84a5 and User:2a01:4c8:49:57f7:acd1:4835:9352:77e5 are the same user, editing the same article - violating WP:WAR, likely needs more than a gently nudge. ~ Chip🐺 16:16, 5 December 2022 (UTC)

You're probably right, but they haven't actually violated the WP:3RR yet. It may make sense to issue them an edit warring warning if they make a fourth edit on the subject. Hey man im josh (talk) 16:22, 5 December 2022 (UTC)

Copi_(Asian_carp) entry submission

Hi hey man im josh: In regards to the redirect of the Copi (Asian carp) submission to the Asian carp#Copi renaming page. First, thank you for taking the time to review it. Much appreciated. Next: The are a couple of reasons why Copi should be its own entry. “Asian carp” is in fact only a slang name – it is not a formal name for the species. The name “Copi” has been adopted by ecologists and governmental agencies like the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA), Fish and Wildlife Departments, the media (both in the U.S. and internationally), and the American restaurant and grocery store industry as the formal name of this species of carp. See the references and links in the draft entry. There are many examples on Wikipedia of similar food and fish renaming. For example, Orange Roughy, is its own unique entry because that is how the fish is now widely known, but before the name Orange Roughy it used to be called Slimehead. Other foods such as Avocado or Chilean Sea Bass, for instance, also have their own unique entry even though these names came to be only after being renamed (they used to go by other names). With that in mind, I wanted to see if you would reconsider Copi as its own entry, especially in consideration that in the coming years Copi will become a widely used and known term in the culture (on restaurant menus, in grocery stores, etc.), nationally and also in Canada and Europe and at some point someone will no doubt submit Copi again. Let me know, and thank you for your time and consideration! - Chris Leighcn (talk) 20:18, 5 December 2022 (UTC)

@Peighcn:, I'm not the one who changed your article to a redirect. I simply marked the page as "patrolled" as part of the new page patrol process. My role was simply reviewing whether the redirect target was valid, which it is. I have had no part in determining whether the page should be a redirect or an article. Hey man im josh (talk) 12:40, 6 December 2022 (UTC)

No, that's the wrong way

WP:NAME clearly states you should use the minimum clearly identifying title for articles, see WP:CONCISE and MOS:PRECISION. When more precision is needed, which it isn't in this case as it is two versions of the same program, only commas and parens are to be used except under unusual circumstances. The older article used a compound name that clearly violates these principles, and should have been addressed some time ago. Your recent edit RVed a GF edit to point to the incorrect NAME. Please undo the changes made to 1st Word. Thank you. 108.168.93.43 (talk) 15:48, 5 December 2022 (UTC)

So work on the "older" article and request that it be moved to the appropriate space instead of changing the page to a redirect. It's fine that you want to change the name of a page, but the page history is important to preserve. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:56, 5 December 2022 (UTC)
Go for it. Or do you not have move privs? 108.168.93.43 (talk) 16:06, 5 December 2022 (UTC)
After several attempts, I cannot properly post a requested move. Can you post it for me please? 108.168.93.43 (talk) 00:11, 6 December 2022 (UTC)
What's the problem you're running in to? Are you using Template:Requested move? Hey man im josh (talk) 12:42, 6 December 2022 (UTC)

More contribution

Hi josh,

I went through your profile and was impressed with the contribution you have made to Wikipedia family, even though u only started your account two years back.

I also want to contribute more but I am not familiar with the process, I just randomly find pages and do changes which I think can improve user experience, but that is a very slow process.

could you please help me out by give me some pointers on how to be more efficient with the work.

Thank,

Bace Word. Bace word (talk) 16:16, 6 December 2022 (UTC)

Hey @Bace word, thank you for the kind words.
Find an area you're interested in and start from there. For me, it was my interest in the National Football League and topics related to the associated WikiProject that started me out. Eventually I found tools that made life easier for me and those helped me to contribute more efficiently and easily. I later branched out from there, often with these same tools. Ask questions at the WP:HELPDESK, don't be afraid of making mistakes (just don't keep making the same ones), be bold, and try not to get discouraged if you face push back. It has to start somewhere, and you'll slowly find tasks that interest you. Anybody who cares about the project understands that we all make mistakes, and that's ok. Just be receptive and keep at it! Hey man im josh (talk) 16:31, 6 December 2022 (UTC)
Thank @Hey man im josh,
I will keep those advise in mind as I start my journey & for Wikiproject I was not aware about this, from now I will try to explore this more.
can u also tell me little bit more about the tools u mentioned which made your contribution more efficient and easier. Bace word (talk) 16:40, 6 December 2022 (UTC)
Check out the gadgets that are listed under preferences. There are also other programs that exist once you get more comfortable, such as WP:HUGGLE which I use quite a bit to fight vandalism.
What are your editing interests? There may be relevant WikiProjects that you could participate in. Some of them have to do lists that members can work on. Hey man im josh (talk) 16:43, 6 December 2022 (UTC)
Thanks @Hey man im josh very much for helping with the problems. Bace word (talk) 16:46, 6 December 2022 (UTC)

I know I'm fighting deletion of content and addition of unsourced material, so I believe I'm good from an edit warring perspective, but could you also keep an eye on the same article like you did earlier? In the meantime I've requested semi-protection at WP:RPP. Thanks in advance. 10mmsocket (talk) 18:24, 8 December 2022 (UTC)

Hey @10mmsocket, I understand your stance, and I used to think the exact same way, but that's not exactly how edit warring works. I'm going to point to the first paragraph in the lead of WP:Edit warring, where it states, "My edits were right, so it wasn't edit warring" is not a valid defense. It was one of the toughest things for me to come to terms with on Wikipedia, the fact that I can be correct and still be considered edit warring. There are exceptions to the rule which can be found at WP:NOT3RR, but in this case it's not obvious vandalism and it doesn't appear to be a violation of the BLP policy. It's a dispute in which some users were adding unsourced information and you were restoring the sourced information, which makes sense to revert.
It looks like the issue should be resolved now though, as Jayron32 added the content back with a source (unlike the other users you reverted). Your intentions are good, but in the future you should be careful about this for the reasons mentioned above. I'd hate to see an editor with good intentions get bit. Hey man im josh (talk) 18:51, 8 December 2022 (UTC)
Cool, thanks. 10mmsocket (talk) 18:56, 8 December 2022 (UTC)

Hey @Linglongtuu, I'm not interested in editing Roman Reigns' article, but you can ask for help at the talk page at Talk:Roman Reigns. I'm confident someone there will be able to assist with the issue. Hey man im josh (talk) 17:23, 13 December 2022 (UTC)

Bro but its been awhile no response lol Linglongtuu (talk) 17:28, 13 December 2022 (UTC)

Making multiple posts on the talk page isn't going to help. I see that you have used the semi-requested edit template now, that template will help to illicit responses quicker. So I will say again, just be patient. Hey man im josh (talk) 17:31, 13 December 2022 (UTC)

Page deletion

Why would you try and delete my page ? Sjohn223 (talk) 08:36, 13 December 2022 (UTC)

Hello @Sjohn223, I nominated your page for deletion, the nomination was reviewed by an admin, and the admin subsequently reviewed the page and deleted it for going against the WP:U5 guideline. I don't recall what you page was so I can't tell you exactly what part of the U5 guideline it violated. Hey man im josh (talk) 12:45, 13 December 2022 (UTC)

The Apollo Stars

Hi, hey man you're Josh. You may have seen that Cyrius declined your speedy deletion nomination of The Apollo Stars with the rather interesting (in my opinion) edit summary "A jazz fusion band whose work was produced by L. Ron Hubbard is weird enough to discuss before deletion." My own feeling, if it's of any interest to you, is that Cyrius is right to decline the speedy nomination, as there is enough suggestion of significance to invalidate an A7 nomination, but I'm not at all sure whether it satisfies the notability guidelines. I'm sort of leaning towards saying that it doesn't, but I haven't made thorough searches for evidence of notability, so I wouldn't like to call the likely outcome of a discussion at WP:AfD if you choose take it there. JBW (talk) 22:02, 14 December 2022 (UTC)

Hey @JBW, thanks for reaching out and for the constructive feedback! It's fair to air on the non-deletion side and encourage a discussion, I have no ill will about it and understand the decision. I don't want to create more work for admins, but I will occasionally tag an article when I believe it's borderline. I review my CSD log regularly, so I always check the page history of the pages that were not deleted to see the admin explanation. Most admins will explain why they removed the tag which helps me learn and become better at tagging. My success rate has gotten pretty good but I still have the occasional miss unfortunately.
I appreciate you sharing your opinion on the notability, it helps me feel better that I wasn't off base questioning its notability. I'm not going to go to AfD just yet, I'll leave it in the new page queue for a few days in case another new page reviewer sees something I don't. Hey man im josh (talk) 14:23, 15 December 2022 (UTC)
Tagging an article which you feel is borderline makes perfect sense, because you are effectively asking for a second opinion, and for an administrator to check the article in order to provide that second opinion is a constructive use of their time. Much less helpful is tagging articles which are nowhere near the borderline, which some editors do frequently. That is just a waste of administrators' time, but you are certainly not one of the editors who do that. JBW (talk) 14:39, 15 December 2022 (UTC)
Thank you, that's how I've hoped it's come across when I've been tagging things. Hey man im josh (talk) 14:43, 15 December 2022 (UTC)

Brian Harvey

Hi Josh,

So i followed your previous advice and linked a Daily Mail article which states Brian's current relationship status, and this is still being removed. I am at a loss as to what i am supposed to do. The link after details of his marriage is from a local newspaper (liverpool echo) surely an article from national newspaper the Daily Mail is allowed as a reference if a local newspaper article is. Can you please advise.

Thanks

Su Supergirlsu (talk) 11:08, 18 December 2022 (UTC)

Hey @Supergirlsu. Sorry for the delay, I don't usually edit during weekends. For quicker replies you're encouraged to ask questions at WP:HELPDESK.
As for your question, the user who reverted your edit stated "rm non-RS", which means "removed non-reliable source". There's a higher standard for articles that are based on living people (see WP:BLP), and unfortunately Daily Mail is considered an unreliable source that shouldn't be used (see WP:DAILYMAIL). For a list of reliable sources you're encouraged to look at WP:RSPSOURCES. If you add the information back from a source that's considered generally reliable then there the person's previous rationale (of a non-reliable source) no longer applies.
