From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In order to remain listed at Wikipedia:Requests for comment/User conduct, at least two people need to show that they tried to resolve a dispute with this sysop and have failed. This must involve the same dispute, not different disputes. The persons complaining must provide evidence of their efforts, and each of them must certify it by signing this page with ~~~~. If this does not happen within 48 hours of the creation of this dispute page (which was: {insert UTC timestamp with ~~~~~}), the page will be deleted. The current date and time is: 03:22, 17 April 2025 (UTC).

Please note: This template is for listing disputes about actions that are limited to administrators only, specifically these actions:

  • protecting and unprotecting pages
  • deleting and undeleting pages
  • blocking and unblocking users

For all other matters (such as edit wars and page moves), please use the template at Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Example user.

Statement of the dispute

[edit]

This is a summary written by users who are concerned by this administrator's conduct. Users signing other sections ("Response" or "Outside views") should not edit the "Statement of the dispute" section.

Recently on a forum (INTJforum.com) outside of Wikipedia an adminstrator of Wikipedia used his powers in an unethical manner to “win” a debate.

The admin in question is BrendelSignature, and on the forum is username is Blse.

BrendelSignature (Blse) while searching himself on the forum came across a blog that mentioned his name and referred to his “girlfriend” as “that aussie chick”. After his reply and request to stop calling his girlfriend an Aussie a debate formed in the blog. The blog owner requested the debate to stop, but BrendelSignature (Blse) continued despite the request and thus hijacking the blog in question. The debate was soon moved to its own thread here: http://intjforum.com/showthread.php?t=40266

Once the debate got to a little over two hundred replies BrendelSignature (Blse) stated that he was an admin of Wikipedia. A minute or two later and a few posts later his girlfriend told the forum to refresh the list of ethnic slurs. The list indeed was changed under BrendelSignature (Blse) personal interests and an edit request was quickly issued.

The post number BrendelSignature (Blse) where he states he is an admin is post number 209: http://intjforum.com/showpost.php?p=1268937&postcount=209

The thread is currently now locked but is still viewable and uneditable.

The whole debate in question is viewable to users that have fifteen posts or more on that forum since it is in a private section; however, the admins and moderators of INTJforum will be of service to the Wikipedia upper ranks.

The accounts BrendelSignature on Wikipedia and Blse on INTJforum easily match up in interests and posting style with just a quick search. There is also posts on the forum by Blse that shows he abuses other postions that are in his power. Chesrscale (talk) 15:22, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

BrendelSignature abused his adminship by editing in the term "Aussie" onto the list of ethnic slurs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethnic_slurs) in order to "win" a debate on an outside forum. Chesrscale (talk) 19:23, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Evidence of trying and failing to resolve the dispute

[edit]

(Provide diffs. Links to entire articles aren't helpful unless the editor created the entire article. Edit histories also aren't helpful as they change as new edits are performed.)

  1. The edit dispute on the ethnic slurs article was resolved by OhNoitsJamie on August 20, 2010 and claimed as a dubious source. Chesrscale (talk) 19:23, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  2. The abuse of adminship dispute has not been resolved but has been brought up on BrendelSignature's talk page by OhNoitsJamie on August 20, 2010; however, so far BrendelSignature has failed to respond if he is a member of the forum in question. Users certifying the basis for this dispute

[edit]

{Users who tried and failed to resolve the dispute}

  1. Prior to the wiki edit, I was one of the users who asked the admin in question to cease the thread hijack and was ignored. The user continued to derail the thread making claims that because his girlfriend believed 'Aussie' was an ethnic slur he would continue to argue it on her behalf regardless of the blog topic and blog owner.Squishykits (talk) 20:59, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

As a member of the forum on which the debate occurred, I can attest to the accuracy of the summaries above. Blse (known here as BrendelSignature), by his own admission arguing in order to defend his girlfriend, added the term "Aussie" to Wikipedia's list of ethnic slurs (evidently fabricating a source for the appearance of credibility). This occurred in the midst of a lengthy argument about whether "Aussie" could be considered derogatory, during which other users cited valid sources and deferred to other Australians to verify the ludicrous nature of Blse's girlfriend's complaint.

Am a member of said forum and witnessed events. The admin in question did change an entry to prove himself and his girlfriend right in a forum discussion. The admin changed entry based on girlfriend preferences and not any discernible fact. Admin has been know to gloat about his abuses of power.
