Proposed site banners
[edit]Banner A large
[edit]
- Support with large displays in mind. --Pine✉ 08:43, 27 October 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose - Per meta:CentralNotice/Usage guidelines, banners like these need to be as unobtrusive as possible. I had envisioned the banner being very simple and actually not needing an RfC to design. Perhaps a Wikipedia logo and a link that says "Wikipedia has reached 5 million articles Click here to learn more" on a white background. This one looks too distracting and clashes sharply with the professional theme of the encyclopedia. The most important thing we want to promote is still article content. - See here for a good template to follow for design. Mz7 (talk) 18:15, 27 October 2015 (UTC)

09:23, 27 October 2015 (UTC) - These banners (so far) look unprofessional and out of Wikipedia's house style. I don't think they're really necessary. Rcsprinter123 (blab) 09:51, 27 October 2015 (UTC)
- Are there any design specs for such banners, such as exact or maximum width, or maximum depth? Stevie is the man! Talk • Work 11:02, 27 October 2015 (UTC)
- I agree with Rcsprinter's comment. I doubt that it's necessary to have a banner - isn't a logo enough? APerson (talk!) 13:39, 27 October 2015 (UTC)
- This RfC presupposes that a banner is necessary. I agree with APerson that one is not necessary. I agree with Rcsprinter123 that the current selection is inadequate. I would certainly prefer no banner to the sole option currently proposed. IMO this process has also been instigated too late - the 4,999,000 article will arrive too soon for sufficient designs to be created and adequately discussed. --LukeSurl t c 15:25, 27 October 2015 (UTC)
- I'd say that a simple site notice linking to our letter should be sufficient. --Jakob (talk) aka Jakec 17:33, 27 October 2015 (UTC)
- As I stated above, Wikimedia projects have guidelines and a process for how Central Notice banners are to be designed and implemented. See meta:Help:CentralNotice and meta:CentralNotice/Usage guidelines. Particularly, banners need to be unobtrusive. And based on what I'm seeing, it looks a bit more complicated to actually design and implement a Central Notice banner than something you throw together in a photo editing application. My advice is to withdraw this RfC and post on meta-wiki asking for help. I originally envisioned something simple, something like File:Centralnotice-template.JPG.
