It is my priviliege and honor to nominate BRPever for consideration as Simple English Wikipedia's next admin. During his tenure on our project, BRPever has distinguished themselves with devotion to contributing, protecting, and bettering the content of SEWP in a fashion few are able to echo. This year alone, BRPever has made 14,500 and counting edits to SEWP and has a total of more than 34,000 total edits.
But I am not a numbers man and edit count alone could not sway me enough to result in my nominating anyone for adminship. I belong to the group of Wikipedians who believes in the tried and true criteria for admins:
- Have a clue
- Have a history
- Don't be a jerk
BRPever answers each of these requirements and exceeds them. BRPever learns new information quickly, has been a frequent source of knowledge and wisdom for me personally, and I've had the honor to watch his abilities become fine tuned.
BRPever's history is unique and warrants careful consideration by the community. Due to his geographic location, BRPever is frequently the only person protecting our project while the rest of us sleep. I hesitate to suggest the title, BRPever has effectively made himself our "Nightwatchman." His tireless devotion to this project in the small hours of the night bring further credit to him. Unfortunately, this occasionally means he is left on his own with no admin assistance in times of trouble.
Finally, BRPever is the furthest thing from what one would call a jerk that I can think of. BRPever is out-going, friendly, and genuinely concerned for his fellow editors. His presence on IRC is steadfast, reliable, and dependable. His presence on IRC makes him even more accessable to the community which I hold to be important to the project. I consider myself extremely fortunate to call him a friend.
Therefore, I do submit this Request for Adminship and nominate BRPever to equip him to serve the community to a higher degree, to provide our "Nightwatchman" with the tools to protect the project when it is needed most, and recognize his unique ability to edit and help his fellow editor. - Support. I've thought for a while that BRPever would make a fine admin - he's active during particular hours and has quite a bit of experience writing articles. Frankly I feel the positives far outweigh the negatives. Hiàn (talk) 02:16, 20 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- Support. Although BRPever isn't perfect, no one is. He is very experienced when it comes to anti-vandalism and patrolling, and is smart enough to know when to act and when to hold off and ask for help. If he possessed administrator permissions, I believe it would be very beneficial to the project. BRPever is a responsible and trustworthy user who is experienced enough to use administrator tools, and thus I support this RfA. Vermont (talk) 02:28, 20 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- Support. I've thought for some time BRPever would make a good addition to the admin bench. Macdonald-ross (talk) 12:59, 22 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- Support: Very active at recent changes. They might be little inexperienced in some areas, but I think overall they will make a good admin. Personally I like their calm and friendly behavior. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 14:58, 22 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose
[change source]OpposeI am on the fence, and my default position when on the fence is oppose unless something convinces me otherwise during the rest of the Rfd. I have had to reject a significant number of quick deletes by them which makes me somewhat hesitant. We already have a problem with admins quick deleting things that make claims and I am hesitant to add to that by making someone an admin who is already tagging articles that make a claim with a quick delete tag so it worries me that they would just straight off delete those articles since they wouldn't have other peoples eyes on them. I am also not super impressed with the answer to Auntof6 below, maybe it is just a language thing, but all they answered were the technical abilities of an admin, and those only make up a tiny portion of what an admin is and does. -DJSasso (talk) 15:58, 17 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- I have done over a thousand QD requests and some of my QD requests were rejected. Most of them I did thinking that there are admins who will reevaluate those articles. Well, I don't think admins can't mark the articles for QD. I think if you are not sure you can always mark them and let another admin evaluate, and I do that when the claim is faint or unreliable. If I become an admin, I am not planning to delete them straight instead, I will tag them and wait for another admin to reevaluate or take them to RFD. And these days I prefer to do RFDs instead of tagging them for QD.-BRP ever 16:54, 17 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Comments
[change source]- @BRPever: User:Operator873 has waxed eloquent and at great length about what an asset they think you'd be as an admin. However, I'd like to hear from you. What's your view of what the job entails? What do you think your strengths and weaknesses would be when doing admin work? Which admin responsibilities do you feel prepared to do, and which do you feel unprepared for? What things would you like to see changed about the way this wiki is administered? There are no right or wrong answers: I just want to hear something from you other than "I accept". --Auntof6 (talk) 09:38, 17 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- Okay, admins are the users with the ability to delete, protect and block and I think these tools will be helpful in patrolling WP:RC. I can also help in CAT:QD, WP:VIP and WP:RFD. I am generally around when I am awake so I can help in urgent cases. My strength would be my availability and not being a native English speaker may be my weakness (in communication skills etc). I am prepared for most of the admin works except WP:REVDEL and range blocks, I think I will need more experience for that. I like how Simple works but would surely love to see more people involved.-BRP ever 11:14, 17 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
