This image seems to be a draft version of File:Imperialism2.png, which seems to be a more updated version of the same image. This one is unused and doesn't seem necessary. M0rphzone (talk) 01:36, 5 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Update: I've done a history merge/uploaded this as an old version of File:World empires and colonies around World War I.png (originally titled Imperialsm2.png). - M0rphzone (talk) 02:55, 5 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have contacted the uploader about using the image without permission, required by copyright claimant. However, there are too many disagreements between both of us. Also, I'm sure that we can make a free photo of Kubrick's widow. I'm not sure explanation of her appearance at one place is either not easy to adequately explain or sufficient enough to make use of non-free content redundant or unnecessary. However, this is not the case, unless adequately proven relevant. By the way, I've already contacted the original author about permission and use of non-free content. (Approved by my mentor Begoon) George Ho (talk) 05:15, 5 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- The image is meant to help illustrate the notable event, not the person. Per license for the image, "It is believed that the use of some images of promotional material to illustrate: the person(s), product, event, or subject in question." The photo helps readers' understanding of this event, described in the article, which is probably why over 600 readers clicked to enlarge it over the last month. --Wikiwatcher1 (talk) 05:32, 5 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- delete:The rationale says the photo is necessary "to support commentary describing her appearance at the exhibition." The article says "Kubrick's widow, Christiane, appeared at the pre-gala press review." and has a citation linking to the article containing the uploaded photo. There's no further mention in the WP article about the woman's appearance at the event--just that she was there. We can learn that from the text on the WP article and by going to the citation link. Having the photo on WP doesn't provide us with any information we can't glean from reading the one sentence saying she attended. We're not gaining any additional information from having the photo in the article, which appears to not be in keeping with WP non-free content use terms and also seems to be a violation of the terms of the website it came from. We hope (talk) 05:44, 5 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Once again, this is not to simply illustrate a person, but to support over 140 words of commentary about the event. No one said it's "necessary," but it's obviously been helpful to understanding the commentary. --Wikiwatcher1 (talk) 06:13, 5 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Reading that section on the revision before the photo was added against the current section including it, doesn't add to understanding that there was an event and his widow was part of it. There's no synopsis or quotes of what she said included in the WP article. It's merely a photo of the woman standing at a podium and we don't need the photo to understand that. - Delete. Fails NFCC #1 (there's a free replacement for the event and a free replacement could be created for the person) and probably failed #8 as used. Mackensen (talk) 05:23, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Violates WP:NFG. Stefan2 (talk) 22:25, 5 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep. The purpose of WP:NFG is to prohibit nonfree images from appearing in (or composing the entirety of) image galleries of the sort seen in the "Image gallery" section of Italianate architecture. The images in those section are purely decorative, which is fine for free images but not for nonfree. In this case, this image is needed because the image itself is the subject of commentary — the "Design" and "Slogan" columns describe what's in the image, but an image is needed to understand what is meant by "Empire plates. Embossed dark blue numbers on reflective white with blue bars above and below numbers; upper blue bar has the words "NEW YORK" in white serifed block numbers outlined in dark blue, over a skyline of Niagara Falls, the Adirondack Mountains, and New York City, with sky above all". - See WP:NFC#UUI §2: a discography is essentially the same thing as this, i.e. a short list of things, and discographies are not allowed to contain non-free images. Also see WP:NFLISTS: "It is inadvisable to provide a non-free image for each entry in such an article or section." --Stefan2 (talk) 07:10, 13 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete. First of all, the license is entirely wrong. Secondly, this appears to be a non-free photograph of a three-dimensional object that is easily replaceable by a free photograph. The entire discussion above is irrelevant. Chick Bowen 17:09, 13 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
