Move Plus

[edit]

Hi TarnishedPath, don't know if this is the right place, but just used your script today somewhat unintentionally (I like to have backups when rmcloser is rmfailing). I was surprised when I went to use the usual buttons and ended up on move plus, but looks good. I was otherwise curious what else is different, other than leaving the RM link in the move itself? CNC (talk) 19:04, 15 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Just noticed it does post move cleanup on links as well, that is fancy. CNC (talk) 19:55, 15 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@CommunityNotesContributor a lot of the code is the same as rmCloser.
My MovePlus was taken from BilledMammal's Move+ and has had a few bug patches (that's its only reason for existence). The functionality is exactly the same as BilledMammal's though. BilledMammal's was a fork of rmCloser. You can read about the differences in functionality in the links above.
One thing to be aware of is there is a major bug where rmCloser, BilledMammal's Move+ and my MovePlus will all create major errors if closing and then performing the moves of pages where the discussion is on a page that is not in the list of pages to be moved (for example the discussion is happening on a WikiProject).
Ps, all of the bug fixes in my version have been with the assistance of others as I haven't programed since I was at uni 18 years ago. TarnishedPathtalk 23:20, 15 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Pss, see Special:Diff/1255757786/1306188207 for the differences between BilledMammal's and the version in my user space. TarnishedPathtalk 23:41, 15 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the heads up, I found with rmcloser that when moving to a different target than specified in the nom, in order to make a move manually you have to enter the rationale, click next, then exit, re-open, re-enter rationale, then when clicking next it would close the RM with rationale minus the move. A sort of long-winded hack due to the absence of a manual move option. This sounds like the sort of bug you're describing if not mistaken. Will keep an eye out for these things, like I did with rmcloser already tbh.
My only criticism so far would be changing WP:NOTBROKEN links, which for various reasons (like redirects with possibilities), aren't necessarily a good idea to change. Ideally there would be an option to only target Template space links as part of post move cleanup, as well as any edit notices that often get left behind. But the benefits outweigh the negatives, especially when disambiguating a primary topic for example when often dozens of links needs updating, sometimes hundreds. CNC (talk) 12:57, 16 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
PS added to list. Makes me realise this page needs updating based on BM's MovePlus being the most used script after rmcloser, otherwise the most used for active users at present. Would you be willing/able to create docs though? That's the only thing missing in order to reference MovePlus as a patched version of Move+ there. CNC (talk) 13:22, 16 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I can probably create docs, by copying BM's and then updating it for the patches that others have assisted me with. It would just require me tracking down discussions about patches, so I can remember what has been done. I'll ping you when if/when I've done it. TarnishedPathtalk 22:29, 16 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@CommunityNotesContributor, see User:TarnishedPath/MovePlus. I've just copy and pasted BilledMammal's and update links, etc. TarnishedPathtalk 09:12, 17 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@CommunityNotesContributor, I've moved the discussion to the user talk for the script. Pinging so you don't think I just deleted it. TarnishedPathtalk 11:53, 17 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
All good, thank you! CNC (talk) 12:24, 17 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Have made update to closing instructions.[1] I figured best to reference this in note format for now, as it focuses on most used rather than whether patched/maintained. I still find it strange that BM's script was never mentioned there, I would of opted for that a year ago had I known. At least now it can helpful for newcomers with Move+/MovePlus not longer being some of secret among closers. CNC (talk) 13:01, 17 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Retargeting mostly fails

[edit]

Hi TarnishedPath. Thanks for taking up maintenance of this tool. I thought I'd give it a try for cleaning up unnecessary redirects so I tried retargeting Class (computing) to Class (programming). There were 7 incoming links to Class (computing) and the progress report seemed to run through all of them but only Copy elision was actually modified. ~Kvng (talk) 16:27, 21 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Kvng, thanks for dropping by. I'd noticed that it doesn't process all possible incoming links myself. I suspect that may be partly explained by the script deliberately not undertaking any relinking on pages which have the {{nobots}} template. Another contribiting cause may be issues caused by deliberate rate limiting which was implemented by @BilledMammal after concerns raised by an admin that the script was behaving like a bot, but wasn't approved as such. TarnishedPathtalk 23:29, 21 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I guess it won't work for what I'm trying to do. ~Kvng (talk) 02:03, 22 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Kvng, DisamAssist might be able to do what you're looking for? TarnishedPathtalk 02:13, 22 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Script added, but not working

[edit]

I added the script, in the interest of using the WikiProject notification feature, but nothing is happening. Are there any known clashes with other scripts? Iskandar323 (talk) 09:01, 11 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I looked at your installed scripts and noticed that you have rmCloser installed at the same time. I'm betting that's your problem. I just used the notification feature and there was no issues for me. TarnishedPathtalk 10:03, 11 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Pinged @Iskandar323 because I forgot to above. TarnishedPathtalk 10:03, 11 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That made a huge amount of sense, and I thought it would fix it, but it hasn't. I've also cleared out other scripts that I've lost track of the purpose of. I'm assuming a button or extra option in the three-dot menu edit option is supposed to appear? Actually, thinking clearly, I should probably have checked this first: does it work in the mobile version? Iskandar323 (talk) 10:26, 11 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Iskandar323, I've never tested it on mobile version and it would surprise me if it did. TarnishedPathtalk 10:29, 11 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Ah! There we go then! Iskandar323 (talk) 10:32, 11 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Iskandar323, I just asked a generative AI thingy if there might be any differences with the mobile apps that might stop it from working and it came back saying "The app has its own API layer and may not expose the same mw or Morebits objects that your script relies on". It's AI so it might be wrong, but that would suggest not. TarnishedPathtalk 10:36, 11 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It might work through a web browser on your phone though. TarnishedPathtalk 10:36, 11 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I use the browser, not the app actually, but the mobile optimization still affects the functionality of things. Iskandar323 (talk) 11:25, 11 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
