Disputed non-free use rationale for File:The New England Journal of Medicine.svg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:The New England Journal of Medicine.svg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. DMacks (talk) 04:00, 27 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, low resolution doesn't mean low quality, please check: Wikipedia:Logos and this template:

--RaphaelQS (talk) 05:18, 27 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Definitely one of these two formats' images is suitable and the other deletable (don't need both), but it does seem that the preference for/against vectorized logos changes periodically. I'll ping some folks who deal with this issue more often for their advice. Please add your thoughts at Wikipedia:Non-free content review#File:The New England Journal of Medicine.svg and File:Nejm logo2011.PNG. DMacks (talk) 13:27, 27 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Image sizes

[edit]

I see you are changing a lot of infobox images to be 225px--some had been unspecified and others were specified at 200px or so. Why the change from "default for a template" and/or to be larger than template-docs recommend? DMacks (talk) 04:04, 27 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, the default size (200px) is not the recommended size, it's the size which agrees with the largest number of images. Following the form of images (higher than wide, wider than high or simply square) a size adjustment is required. In most cases, the size of 225px. --RaphaelQS (talk) 05:07, 27 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I was starting from {{Infobox university}}, where image_name is documented as "Produces an image of 200px by default." So apparently there's consensus that that's at least the standard size, for whatever technical or aesthetic reason intended by the designers of the infobox. I guess I don't understand how suddenly 12.5% larger than that is the best way for "most cases". Even {{Infobox}}, the master template for all infobox types, uses 200px in all its examples. FWIW, among the user-preference image sizes for thumbs are 200px, 220px, and 250px, but not 225px, and with 220px the default. And that's for all images (including ones where there is actual encyclopediac content not just decorative image of a person or logo). I don't understand the "following the form" comment...are you trying to standardize the image height rather than width in the display? DMacks (talk) 09:00, 27 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, maybe you're right after all, you're older than me on the English Wikipedia so I'll trust you. RaphaelQS (talk) 11:36, 27 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Your edit restored the phrase "he did sessss was a very good man" which did not make sense to me, which is why I reverted to an earlier version of the article. Perhaps my reversion also kept some vandalism and an even earlier version needs to be restored to get a completely clean version. It did not seem that way but I may have missed something. Or perhaps a very careful review of the whole article must be made to remove all vandalism, although I think that is probably unnecessary. Donner60 (talk) 04:51, 8 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I did not participate in this article except to increase the size of the image in the infobox. --RaphaelQS (talk) 04:53, 8 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Illustrations for Aesop's Fables

[edit]

I see you're new to WP and so probably aren't aware of the hidden dynamics among some of us editors. I've reverted your change of image at The Fox and the Grapes because it clashes with the illustration policy those of us who curate the fables of Aesop and La Fontaine have established between outselves. There's a discussion of that on the talk page of Aesop's Fables. When we first started, almost everyone used the Milo Winter prints. In the interests of diversity in a very rich field of alternative choices, I purged those down to only the most striking and substituted where possible pictures with more relevance to the text. The Fox and the Grapes had your Milo Winter print once, but a picture of a fox beneath a tree vine didn't really seem to fit and clearly was wide of what actually happens in the fable. I was made to change the picture I chose (as you'll see from the fable's talk page) and used instead a print from the original edition of La Fontaine's fables, since his version is discussed in the text and because it illustrates the fox actually trying to get at the grapes, which the other two illustrations don't. I thought I'd explain since, looking at the other messages, it seems you've worked out some kind of a policy in your head and are imposing it without consensus. Please give some of us other editors credit for the fact that we may have given our choices consideration first - and even discussed them with others. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Yuval Harari, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Israeli (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Information icon Hi there! Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. Thanks! JohnInDC (talk) 19:38, 25 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Your changes to infobox image sizes, unaccompanied by any explanation, seem rather random - some larger, some smaller; it would be quite helpful if you were to explain what you are doing as you are doing it. Thanks! JohnInDC (talk) 19:44, 25 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Here's how I make it:
Infobox company: 200px or smaller for the logo, 250px for image (example: Pentax)
Infobox university: 200px for the University Seal, 250px for the logo (example: Cornell University)
Infobox newspaper: 240px for the logo, 260px for the image (example: Neue Zürcher Zeitung)
--RaphaelQS (talk) 19:59, 25 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. You might check around to see if there are any sorts of - accepted standards on those. And edit summaries are helpful in any case! Thanks - JohnInDC (talk) 21:10, 25 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Really - please. Use edit summaries. When you don't, you just force other editors to guess - or research - what you're intending to do. They are helpful, and are an important part of a collegial editing atmosphere. Thanks. JohnInDC (talk) 13:23, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I will do it, you're right. Thank you for taking the time to tell me this. RaphaelQS (talk) 15:24, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
