Question from Moffle (11:12, 4 October 2025)

[edit]

Hello, I have made a well-evidenced edit to the Sudocrem wiki page but someone keeps removing the edit, citing comments that don't make sense. How should I deal with this?

Thanks --Moffle (talk) 11:12, 4 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Moffle: Hello and welcome! I would suggest pressing on the "Talk" link at the top left of the article and then "Add topic" at the top right. There, you may explain your changes and notify the other editor by mentioning them ("{{ping|<username>}}") to open a discussion. This is preferable to constant edit reversions (edit warring). Wikipedia:Dispute resolution has some more guidance if needed. ObserveOwl (talk) 11:20, 4 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Giorgio Bicchiere (10:03, 12 October 2025)

[edit]

Hey, sorry if this sounds like a weird question, but how can I tell an account is a sockpuppet of another account? --Giorgio Bicchiere (talk) 10:03, 12 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Giorgio Bicchiere: Hi! Sometimes it is easy to detect a sockpuppet account when, for example, user "Example1" is blocked right before an account named "Example2" is created and edits the same page or discussion the same way.
In many cases, it is not obvious, so users may spot signs that an account may be a sockpuppet of another. These include editing articles in the same narrow topic, similar typing style or mistakes, having knowledge of Wikipedia process as a very new account (note that a new user could have gotten outside guidance or edited under an unregistered account previously), the times of the day or days of the week they both edit, etc. These and other possible signs are listed at Wikipedia:Signs of sockpuppetry.
Only one or two signs are possibly not reason for accusing, but if they gradually build up, suspicions can be brought up in a sockpuppet investigation for admins and CheckUsers to evaluate. ObserveOwl (talk) 11:48, 12 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Giorgio Bicchiere (06:24, 13 October 2025)

[edit]

Hey ObserveOwl, how would I be able to interlink wikis [| such as this one] to Wikipedia? --Giorgio Bicchiere (talk) 06:24, 13 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Giorgio Bicchiere: For most wikis not hosted by the Wikimedia Foundation, a simple external link will do ([https://example.com/ Link] -> Link). For Wikipedia's sister projects and some other wikis at meta:Interwiki map, you may link to them using a prefix ([[wiktionary:word|Link]] -> Link). ObserveOwl (talk) 07:13, 13 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks @ObserveOwl! Giorgio Bicchiere (talk) 07:19, 13 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from O S Prasanth (07:25, 28 October 2025)

[edit]

sir/Madam, I want to know , how can I establish notability --O S Prasanth (talk) 07:25, 28 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @O S Prasanth! To establish notability of a topic, you should show that there are reliable and third party sources about it. Note that the sources should give significant detail about it, more than just a few mentions.
I see you are having some trouble submitting your draft, Draft:Satish Chandra Jha. Taking two sources as examples: Times of India mentions Jha, but describes him very briefly; similarly, The Telegraph India only mentions him once. These two sources quote him, but don't provide enough biographical details about Jha that could be cited on the article. I have not checked all other sources (and I cannot read Hindi, but sources in other languages may be reliable), so I would suggest gathering three sources from the draft that are reliable, independent of Jha, and provide the most detail about his life and career. Then, if those three sources describe Jha beyond a quick description or quotes from him, you may ask for advice on the help desk with links to the three sources.
Please note that in case there are insufficient sources demonstrating notability, the draft will not be accepted. Thank you! ObserveOwl (talk) 12:25, 28 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
One video interview in hindi was also submitted alongwith the draft. Whether that will be considered for notability. Most of the activities of the officer is confined to Bihar state of India, hence all the news are especially in state news papers . O S Prasanth (talk) 14:44, 28 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@O S Prasanth: Interviews are a mixed bag when it comes to establishing notability. They can be cited for what the subject says about themselves, but what would contribute to notability is the context that an independent party (in this case the interviewer) says about the person being interviewed, perhaps in the introduction before asking questions. Interviews in a very simple and plain "question and answer" format are hard to use for notability, while more investigative and analytical reporting like 60 Minutes can be strong indicators of notability. Hello mentor, the article, Plasticene Extension Event, is ready. How do I submit it? --Jay Teddy (talk) 12:07, 28 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Correction - Plasticene Extinction Event Jay Teddy (talk) 12:16, 28 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hello and welcome to Wikipedia, @Jay Teddy! You may place the code {{subst:AFC submission/submit}} at the top of the page. (Also, Help:Section may help you format section headers like "Overview" and "Background" better.) Thank you! ObserveOwl (talk) 12:30, 28 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Finlay25791 (00:12, 29 October 2025)

[edit]

Hello I have a question how do I change peoples pictures on Wikipedia like to make them have updated pictures from like this year or last year? --Finlay25791 (talk) 00:12, 29 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia @Finlay25791! You can upload the image and insert it in the article by replacing the file name inside the article's infobox.
However, you should take notice that if someone with a Wikipedia page is still alive, we cannot accept someone else's copyrighted "fair use" photo of the person for the portrait. If you have taken an image yourself, you can upload it here. By default, you should not upload others' images, unless they have stated publicly that the portrait is licensed under a free copyright license, like CC BY-SA 4.0.
I know copyright restrictions can be confusing at times, so if you have more questions, let me know. Thank you! ObserveOwl (talk) 00:28, 29 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Giorgio Bicchiere (00:54, 31 October 2025)

[edit]

If I were to make a Wiki article about a prison or prisoner, would it be legal to source from a page about the details of a prison or prisoner/offender from the .gov website from that country or US state? --Giorgio Bicchiere (talk) 00:54, 31 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Giorgio Bicchiere: Yes, it would be allowed as a primary source. (An exception would be that you should not use trial transcripts or other public government documents as sources for information about currently living people.) However, articles should mostly rely on reliable secondary/independent sources like books or newspapers whenever possible. ObserveOwl (talk) 07:47, 31 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Can you give an example or two of what you mean by "other public government documents", @ObserveOwl? Giorgio Bicchiere (talk) 08:59, 31 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Giorgio Bicchiere: In my experience, the policy is often cited as mainly referring to court records. I do not have much familiarity with this type of documentation; feel free to ask others at Wikipedia:Teahouse if you want more applicable examples. ObserveOwl (talk) 09:14, 31 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
OK! Thanks for your help @ObserveOwl!
Just wanted to know, since I added an entry to the "notable inmates" section on the article for Ohio Reformatory for Women. Giorgio Bicchiere (talk) 10:10, 31 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
