ArbCom 2025 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2025 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 1 December 2025. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2025 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:56, 18 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Good discussion

[edit]

N7fty, Thanks for the good discussion regarding Local (astronomy), and your help in saving it. I realized after some time that your reading of that 19th century book passage was the correct one and that I had glanced over it too quickly.

I did and do believe, as you do, that an article on Wikipedia, which describes the changing concept of locality as larger and larger structures are considered, is valuable, especially to young people who would be new to the subject. The WP:NLIST guideline is slightly hard to interpret, and I think that's where it gave other editors confusion, but your reading of it I think met its essential spirit. After you came out in support, the remaining and later arguments against keeping the article, while defined in terms of voter desire, were ambiguous in terms of what policy or interpretation was actually invoked, but I can understand where it's coming from. Should the subject come up again, I feel well-equipped to reassure almost any editor that the article really does belong where it is. I'm glad again that we were able to work together through the concerns and especially that we both were able to edit the article to improve it. I checked the ORES ratings and it appears the article went from a "Stub" rating to a "Start" rating due to the combined editorial efforts. This was excellent work. Much agreed, and I saw that that wasn't your first time improving and rescuing an astronomy article that was put up for deletion, excellent work there too and it was a pleasure collaborating with you! N7fty (they/them · talk) 03:16, 14 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
