Deletion discussion about Priyanka Saha

[edit]

Hello, Moinak.shaivya, and welcome to Wikipedia. I edit here too, under the username Kavyansh.Singh, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Priyanka Saha, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Priyanka Saha.

You might like to note that such discussions usually run for seven days and are not ballot-polls. And, our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Kavyansh.Singh}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

Hello @Kavyansh.Singh
So kind of you to have taken your time out and raised your concern. I just wanted to clarify if news articles and google knowledge graphs are not considered as reliable or verifiable sources? If not, then if you could please shed some light on what are. I would really like to hear form you as I started editing recently after reading all the guidelines thoroughly time and time again. Since I am a human, it might be that I have misinterpreted some part. Please help me and guide me in the right direction.
Hoping for your kind response. Moinak.shaivya (talk) 13:25, 21 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Moinak.shaivya – Thanks for asking.

Generally, news articles from established secondary news organizations are reliable. But, various local news organizations have no consensus on their reliability. That means, editors have to judge it on case-by-case basis. As for Google knowledge graphs and basic Google search, it is not reliable. For biographies of living people, we need to put some extra attention that every statement is cited to a reliable source. I see that the article "Priyanka Saha" has much uncited text, like birth date, entire "Career" section, etc. Moreover, I was not able to find any other sources. Uncited text, combined with lack of any further citations available made me believe that the topic is not notable per Wikipedia standards. I also see some neutral point of view (NPOV) concerns, like saying that she was from a humble Bengali family (emphasis mine). Also, you have marked the image of the subject as your "Own work". So, is there any chance that you personally know the subject of the article. If so, please read Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide. If not, feel free to ignore this particular point.

So, very simply put, at AfD (Articles for Deletion), we determine whether the article is suitable for Wikipedia: it is notable enough. Unfortunately, the article, in its current state, does not. Thus, I had nominated it for deletion. I'll suggest you to work on more notable topics. Your contributions to the encyclopedia are very much appreciated! – Kavyansh.Singh (talk) 13:57, 21 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Kavyansh.Singh
Thank You for the detailed explanation. I would keep all the points in mind from next time on. One question though, if a page gets deleted, is it possible to remake the page after all the previous problems are dealt with?
Thank You once again. Moinak.shaivya (talk) 03:37, 22 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! The primary concern here is lack of notability, and no amount of editing can overcome a lack of notability. Practically, you can create a new article, but I would not recommend doing so. If the topic remains un-notable, it would be deleted again. Thanks for asking, though. – Kavyansh.Singh (talk) 05:48, 22 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Moinak Dutta moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Moinak Dutta, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. @Onel5969
Hello,
I greatly appreciate your attention. However, it would be great if you could help me with my understanding of some terms. For example, in the general notability guideline, it is stated that: "Reliable" means that sources need editorial integrity to allow verifiable evaluation of notability, per the reliable source guideline. Sources may encompass published works in all forms and media, and in any language. Availability of secondary sources covering the subject is a good test for notability. Please tell me if, a verified artist's profile in Spotify, or on Youtube or Apple Music or a published book on Amazon Kindle platform along with an IMDB profile and a Google Knowledge panel not verifiable or reliable sources. If yes, then was there any problem with my linking or citation? If yes, then please guide me through the process. And if they are not verifiable sources, can you please give me some examples of verifiable and reliable sources so that I may not repeat the same mistake in future.
Please help.
Thank you
