Expo 2025 pavilions

[edit]

Hi Lynch44. I noticed you accepted a pending change for this content removal on Expo 2025 pavilions. Did you intend to do that? If so, I should just mention for awareness that this user has been disruptively removing the same content using multiple IPs, which was why the page was PC-protected in the first place. I don't mean to call you out or criticize, just providing some additional context for this. – Epicgenius (talk) 22:38, 2 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Noted, thanks. Lynch44 22:41, 2 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!

[edit]

I'm normally always watching "my" contribs, but wasn't for about 15m (busey) . So thank you for reverting that obvious vandalism from people within this school district. - Flower 24.155.147.109 (talk) 20:41, 3 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

No worries. I am always a fan of anonymous editing (hell, I was one for years), but if you edit from a school and there are other people using the same IP to add nonsense like that last edit, I would just create an account. Cheers, Lynch44 20:46, 3 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I do, though technical errors prevent this district from logging in lmao. See the linked user pages & its associated talk page for why 24.155.147.109 (talk) 20:47, 3 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Wondering why you jumped straight to G11 on Waterfront Market

[edit]

A look at page history shows an LLM-crafted insertion on stable article Waterfront Market, and one minute later you tagged for speedy. Looking at the same situation, I've restored the previous version; the question may be discussed on its merits. You may PROD the page or take it to AfD if you wish. Without discussion, I'm not willing to G11 a page which provides cited claims of notability, an article written by a long-time and current wikipedian. BusterD (talk) 12:34, 9 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I must have misread the edit filter and assumed it was created by the spammer. I will be more careful in the future. Lynch44 15:38, 9 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
BusterD: Thank you for this. I have done a few more updates. —Jonathan Bowen (talk) 16:03, 9 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. My apologies if I sounded harsh. Thanks both of you for what you bring to the pedia! BusterD (talk) 16:12, 9 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I don't believe you or I can revert Growing Together1's edits fast enough

Quick speedy deletion nomination

[edit]

Hello there, and thank you for your help with NPP! I wanted to reach out because I noticed your recent A1 speedy deletion nomination of Barrister Nusrat Khan, which occurred 5 minutes after the article was created. Per NPPHOUR, articles shouldn't be nominated for speedy deletion if they have been meaningfully edited within the past hour, with exceptions for grossly inappropriate material (e.g., copyright, attack).

I understand and sympathize with wanting such short articles off Wikipedia, but we also need to recognize that it can come across as bitey to draftify an article too quickly -- especially considering that articles in mainspace do not need to be complete, and editors are allowed to develop articles in the mainspace.

I hope this makes sense. Thank you again for all your help with NPP. It's definitely appreciated! Take care, Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 16:08, 11 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I'll go through that again. Thanks for the reminder, and thanks for all you do. Lynch44 16:09, 11 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, asking for a second opinion again! Can you check out the talk page and recent contributions for User:Erixcson8? Thanks! LuniZunie 15:29, 12 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Why! (Erixcson8 (talk) 15:32, 12 October 2025 (UTC))[reply]
Very interesting. Looks like you aren't the first to tell him to stop. In all honesty, it might be time to file a report at WP:ANI. The age stuff is weird too. Lynch44 15:35, 12 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
They just tried to hide the weird age questions, will definitely get administrative intervention. Thank you so much! LuniZunie 15:39, 12 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I've filed a report here. Thanks for letting me know. Lynch44 15:43, 12 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The Founder, etc...

[edit]

Hello you reverted my comments in the discussion section. Did you read them? What I said was very clear, and I guess I assumed that the idea that "The Article would be improved if..." was self-evident. If I preface all my remarks with that idea, would you still believe it's a casual conversation as in a "forum" vs. a fairly self-evident statement about how the Article might be improved? Is English your first language? Are you a bot? Note, this is the 2nd time someone has reverted an edit that is pretty obviously a detailed statement about how the Article might be improved. In the first case, the suggestion was to delete a section that had nothing to do with the actual Article. Can you please explain your reasoning, within the context of having read what I actually posted? Thanks in advance.72.180.111.79 (talk) 23:42, 12 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

You can re-add it if you want, although be aware that excessive swearing isn't exactly looked at positively. Cheers, Lynch44 23:45, 12 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

[edit]

Thank you for catching this, this user/ip range had been at this sneaky disruption for over a year, and I am glad you reverted that. Plasticwonder (talk) 21:56, 13 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. The fact the page had just been pc-protected caught my eye, and I saw the IP doing the exact same thing you reverted in earlier diffs. Lynch44 21:58, 13 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Just wanted to get ur opinino on the user User:HappyOrNot2025 after they edited HappyOrNot and i noticed they had the same name. not sure if it is WP:COI or advertising, lmk what u think JoBo Gamer 12:25, 16 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Looks pretty obvious to me. I filed a report at WP:UAA, since company names are not allowed. Cheers, Lynch44 12:26, 16 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. A tag has been placed on User talk:GREATZUBLU BROTHERHOOD requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section U5 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to consist of writings, information, discussions, or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals. Please note that Wikipedia is not a free web hosting service. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. @LuniZunie: Talk pages are not normally deleted, especially if there are pre-existing messages. Can I ask that you not? Thanks, Lynch44 18:30, 26 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Vandal talk pages

[edit]

We don't need to revert their writings on their own talk page -- I'd just request TPA if you're concerned and then move on. Any admin who revokes TPA will clear any messages they feel they need to. You're still beating me to reverts by the way... ;) --tony 00:33, 29 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I am -- in fact -- an idiot, and missed that the reverts you were making were on other editors' talk pages, not the vandals. I'll accept a trouting if you're so inclined :) --tony 00:35, 29 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Guide to temporary accounts

[edit]

Hello, Lynch44. This message is being sent to remind you of significant upcoming changes regarding logged-out editing.

Starting 4 November, logged-out editors will no longer have their IP address publicly displayed. Instead, they will have a temporary account (TA) associated with their edits. Users with some extended rights like administrators and CheckUsers, as well as users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will still be able to reveal temporary users' IP addresses and all contributions made by temporary accounts from a specific IP address or range.

How do temporary accounts work?

Editing from a temporary account
  • When a logged-out user completes an edit or a logged action for the first time, a cookie will be set in this user's browser and a temporary account tied with this cookie will be automatically created for them. This account's name will follow the pattern: ~2025-12345-67 (a tilde, year of creation, a number split into units of 5).
  • All subsequent actions by the temporary account user will be attributed to this username. The cookie will expire 90 days after its creation. As long as it exists, all edits made from this device will be attributed to this temporary account. It will be the same account even if the IP address changes, unless the user clears their cookies or uses a different device or web browser.
  • A record of the IP address used at the time of each edit will be stored for 90 days after the edit. Users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will be able to see the underlying IP addresses.
  • As a measure against vandalism, there are two limitations on the creation of temporary accounts:
    • There has to be a minimum of 10 minutes between subsequent temporary account creations from the same IP (or /64 range in case of IPv6).
    • There can be a maximum of 6 temporary accounts created from an IP (or /64 range) within a period of 24 hours.

Temporary account IP viewer user right

How to enable IP Reveal

Impact for administrators

  • It will be possible to block many abusers by just blocking their temporary accounts. A blocked person won't be able to create new temporary accounts quickly if the admin selects the autoblock option.
  • It will still be possible to block an IP address or IP range.
  • Temporary accounts will not be retroactively applied to contributions made before the deployment. On Special:Contributions, you will be able to see existing IP user contributions, but not new contributions made by temporary accounts on that IP address. Instead, you should use Special:IPContributions for this (see a video about IPContributions in a gallery below).

Rules about IP information disclosure

  • Publicizing an IP address gained through TAIV access is generally not allowed (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 previously edited as 192.0.2.1 or ~2025-12345-67's IP address is 192.0.2.1).
  • Publicly linking a TA to another TA is allowed if "reasonably believed to be necessary". (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 and ~2025-12345-68 are likely the same person, so I am counting their reverts together toward 3RR, but not Hey ~2025-12345-68, you did some good editing as ~2025-12345-67)
  • See Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer § What can and can't be said for more detailed guidelines.

Useful tools for patrollers

  • It is possible to view if a user has opted-in to view temporary account IPs via the User Info card, available in Preferences → Appearance → Advanced options → Tick Enable the user info card
    • This feature also makes it possible for anyone to see the approximate count of temporary accounts active on the same IP address range.
  • Special:IPContributions allows viewing all edits and temporary accounts connected to a specific IP address or IP range.
  • Similarly, Special:GlobalContributions supports global search for a given temporary account's activity.
  • The auto-reveal feature (see video below) allows users with the right permissions to automatically reveal all IP addresses for a limited time window.

Declined speedy deletion: User:Andy Robert Fahim/sandbox

[edit]

Hi there, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia! I wanted to let you know that I've declined your G15 speedy deletion nomination of User:Andy Robert Fahim/sandbox. G15 does not apply to all articles written by an LLM such as ChatGPT. Rather, G15 only applies to LLM-generated articles without reasonable human review, as evidenced by communication intended for the user, implausible non-existent references, and/or nonsensical citations. The article did not have sources and thus, the final two rationale are invalid. Additionally, while there was a sentence stating, "This section will need to include citations," this sentence could have been written by the editor, not an LLM. As such, I have declined the speedy deletion. If you have any questions about this, please let me know. Thank you! Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 16:06, 31 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reply to Newark, NY

[edit]

Hey there! I appreciate the clarity on why my addition to the Newark, NY article was archived. Would you say that paper copies and/or photos of the people & locations mentioned would suffice? They are housed in our local museum. There may not be online references to them. Peace, B Misterbo16 (talk) 04:05, 1 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Yes, you need reliable, preferably secondary, independent sources for any edits of this type. Unfortunately, photos, while visually useful, will not suffice. Thanks, Lynch44 11:24, 1 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
