Nasutoceratops scheduled for TFA
This is to let you know that the above article has been scheduled as today's featured article for 13 May 2025. Please check that the article needs no amendments. Feel free to amend the draft blurb, which can be found at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/May 2025, or to make comments on other matters concerning the scheduling of this article at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/May 2025. story · music · places - Thank you today for the article "about a ceratopsian dinosaur which is unusual for its large snout and similarity to a Texas Longhorn. This is perhaps also why it has gained a bit of fame recently by being featured in the Jurassic World franchise. Everything published about it should be summarised here, and luckily there are a lot of nice, free images available. Note that a Master's thesis (Ridgwell) that was also used in the FA Kosmoceratops is included here for comprehensiveness, as it does not present controversial information."! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:12, 13 May 2025 (UTC)

Seeking mentorship for Featured Article nomination
Hello, I'm seeking mentorship for my first FA nomination. I've been working extensively on Alicella gigantea, which just received the "Good Article" status today. I saw that mentorship was highly recommended, so I thought it would be good to reach out. I thought you would be perfect for this as you seem to have plenty of experience working on species articles. I know you usually work on vertebrates, but would you be interested?
Many thanks
AxonsArachnida (talk) 08:28, 28 June 2025 (UTC)
- Sure, I'll have a read soon and add my thoughts on its talk page. FunkMonk (talk) 19:30, 28 June 2025 (UTC)
- Much appreciated, thanks. AxonsArachnida (talk) 07:12, 29 June 2025 (UTC)

- And you're welcome, I left a note at the FAC about free imagery in a source, which I was notified of on the palaeontology project Discord server. FunkMonk (talk) 04:12, 11 July 2025 (UTC)
Could I interest you in a review?
Hi FM, how are things going? If, perchance, you are interested in reviewing something, could I interest you in my current FAC offering Siege of Utica? A straight forward - I think - 2,800 words from the Rome and Carthage era. It collected two swift reviews but since it seems to have slipped into that Sargasso Sea of nominations where it goes round and round but gets nowhere. If you were to rescue it I would be grateful. Obviously, if time or motivation do not permit that is not a problem. Cheers. Gog the Mild (talk) 20:27, 13 July 2025 (UTC)
- Sure, I was thinking of it, but you usually sail through FAC easily, so I thought I'd go for some more deserted nominations. But I'll take a look. And it's going alright, getting a bit more into the Wikipedia habit again, you? FunkMonk (talk) 22:01, 13 July 2025 (UTC)
- True. I try to keep my own reviewing rate up, which I think helps. I think my last but one got 13 reviews, so it seems to be either feast or famine. Your having a look at it is much appreciated, although I am sure you will be horrified at its paucity of commas.
- I had thought you were a bit busier, but it is hard to pick these things up. I have been back in the flow of things myself re FAC nominations these past 9 months after an 18-month break. Gog the Mild (talk) 13:31, 14 July 2025 (UTC)
- Yeah, by contrast, I don't think I've gotten that many concluded reviews in such a short time before as in my current FAC, but I guess it helps the article is my shortest nomination ever. Reviewing is still fun, but writing is becoming harder, so my last two FACs have either been a collaboration or a decade old GA... FunkMonk (talk) 15:29, 14 July 2025 (UTC)
- Me too re reviewing and writing. Hence my extended hiatus I guess. I set up a few topics to complete and that seems to have kept me motivated. This article is from one of them. Two FTs got approved last month, and I am hoping these two will join them before too long. One of which will involve a visit to the scary territory of Featured Lists. Hopefully it will all help to keep me interested. Gog the Mild (talk) 11:32, 15 July 2025 (UTC)

Good evening FM, this is where I try and push my luck. On the back of your support for Utica I have been able to nominate Siege of Brest (1342), a dinky article of fewer than 2,000 words. In the hope of pre-empting the glacial progress of its predecessor, is there any chance of your also giving this one a once over? It would be much appreciated. Thanks. Gog the Mild (talk) 23:35, 15 July 2025 (UTC)
- Yeah, I have a bunch of standing reviews I have to finish first, but it'll be next on my list. FunkMonk (talk) 01:04, 16 July 2025 (UTC)

- Thank you today for the article, "about the oldest known tyrannosauroid, though dramatically different from its later, more famous relatives like Tyrannosaurus in being quite small and with a crest beginning at the snout. While first named over a century ago, little was published about it until the last few decades, and we have summarised all of it here.", created in collaboration! - I have a FAC open, BWV 79, for 31 October, and another Bach cantata to offer for listening, 300 years old OTD, Lobe den Herren, den mächtigen König der Ehren, BWV 137, setting a song of praise. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:11, 19 August 2025 (UTC)

Apologies
Hello,
My sincerest apologies for removing your Camarillasaurus from the Wikipedia page. I restored it to the version before my edits. I was simply trying to edit it considering the new paper. I'm very sorry. 2600:4040:5100:FC00:E391:195C:BD2D:5DF1 (talk) 21:06, 18 September 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, I didn't even notice, but now you're here, I'm actually working on updating it to fit its latest phylogenetic position better, by giving it a more Spinosaurus-like tail and shorter legs. FunkMonk (talk) 22:28, 18 September 2025 (UTC)
- OK! Also, is it supposed to have a Spinosaurini like sail? 2600:4040:5100:FC00:E391:195C:BD2D:5DF1 (talk) 22:38, 18 September 2025 (UTC)
- I'll follow the silhouette in the paper, which gives it a low sail (basically keeping it as is):[1] FunkMonk (talk) 01:02, 19 September 2025 (UTC)

hello me and another user have gotten into a spat on the Nemegt formations age. basically he keeps editing that the nemegts base age is 72 mya. I reverted because of a whole bunch of reasons all the reasons stated are stated on the Nemegt formations talk page. he requested it be taken to the Nemegts talk page to have our arguments heard out and judged by third party arbitraters
I've seen you on Wikipedia and I've known you've been an authority on dinosaurs for years now and my question is, will you go the Nemegt talk page and review our section and arbitrate? Themanguything (talk) 23:29, 22 September 2025 (UTC)
- I'll see if I can get someone more well-versed in dating to check it out. FunkMonk (talk) 00:12, 23 September 2025 (UTC)
- See here:[2] Edit warring will only get you both blocked, so best to sort it out on talk pages with sources backing up your claims. FunkMonk (talk) 00:41, 23 September 2025 (UTC)
Question
What is your favorite dinosaur? 2600:4040:5100:FC00:5E54:B612:8660:3766 (talk) 17:27, 27 September 2025 (UTC)
- I'm just curious. 2600:4040:5100:FC00:5E54:B612:8660:3766 (talk) 17:39, 27 September 2025 (UTC)
- I'd say some therizinosaur, since they're so bizarre compared to most other dinosaurs. FunkMonk (talk) 01:10, 28 September 2025 (UTC)
- What particular species, though? 2600:4040:5100:FC00:5E54:B612:8660:3766 (talk) 10:44, 28 September 2025 (UTC)
- BTW, I already know you like therizinosaurs, according to something you said back in 2008. 2600:4040:5100:FC00:5E54:B612:8660:3766 (talk) 10:48, 28 September 2025 (UTC)
- Probably Segnosaurus, since it was the first one I heard about, back when it was still mysterious and no one knew how it really looked, and why I expanded the article. FunkMonk (talk) 16:28, 28 September 2025 (UTC)
- Do you have any other favorite dinosaurs? 2600:4040:5100:FC00:7AF3:2A1A:29AF:D033 (talk) 16:58, 28 September 2025 (UTC)
- Well remembered with the 2008 comment, how did you find that? I think maybe Baryonyx could be another favourite, because it really stuck out back then, now it's of course just one of many similar spinosaurids, but that didn't become clear until relatively recently. What are your favourites? FunkMonk (talk) 18:07, 28 September 2025 (UTC)
- Through browsing WikiProject Dinosaurs review archives.
- My favorite dinosaur is Gigantoraptor. I suggest we end this conversation. 2600:4040:5100:FC00:7AF3:2A1A:29AF:D033 (talk) 18:48, 28 September 2025 (UTC)

- I know you had a DeviantArt account, I saw your Heterodontosaurus on there, do you still have it? 2600:4040:5100:FC00:D5DF:6C0B:1A2F:AA27 (talk) 00:11, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
- It's probably still online, but I haven't logged in for probably years, and most of the stuff there is already on Commons, in more up to date form. FunkMonk (talk) 00:15, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
- Wait, do you have a link to your DeviantArt account. I was unable to access it 2600:4040:5100:FC00:D5DF:6C0B:1A2F:AA27 (talk) 00:17, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
