Welcome!
[edit]Hello, Drpnyc, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.
I noticed that one of the first articles you created or edited appears to be an article about yourself. Writing about yourself is a common mistake made by new Wikipedians.
As this is an encyclopedia, we wouldn't expect to have an article about every contributor. We require individuals to meet Wikipedia's definition of a notable person to accept articles about them. A page you created about yourself may well be deleted from the encyclopedia. If it is deleted and you wish to retrieve its contents, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.
If your contributions to an existing article about yourself are undone and you wish to add to or change it, please propose the changes on its talk page.
Here are some pages that you might find helpful:
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{help me}}
before the question. Again, welcome! Liz Read! Talk! 22:19, 10 May 2025 (UTC)
Managing a conflict of interest
[edit] Hello, Drpnyc. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{edit COI}} template), including links or details of reliable sources that support your suggestions;
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest § How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam § External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicizing, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 22:20, 10 May 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you Liz for your careful review and for raising important points regarding formatting, neutrality, and potential concerns about coordinated timing.However, please note that I disclosed myself what may have been viewed as a potential conflict of interest when I posted the addition you reference along with others I put up today. I fully understand and respect Wikipedia’s guidelines on neutrality, conflict of interest, and due weight. I have no objection to removing post-nominal degrees (Ph.D.), trademark symbols (®), bold formatting, or adjusting the proposed language further to ensure compliance with Wikipedia standards.
- I would like to clarify that although several edit requests were submitted today, the timing was not part of any organized campaign. It simply reflects that I have only now, at 76 years old, found the time to prioritize these contributions. Throughout my career, I have been occupied with writing, lecturing, researching, teaching, and maintaining a full clinical practice. Only now, in semi-retirement, have I had the opportunity to attend to documenting aspects of my work and legacy for broader public knowledge. My intent is to contribute factual, verifiable information in a manner consistent with Wikipedia’s policies, and I am open to rewording or adjusting proposals as needed to maintain neutrality and encyclopedic tone.
- One last point as I [resume this may n the surface had seemed problematic as most theories and frameworks in my filed are not trademarked. The Sexual Tipping Point® trademark is not used for commercial business purposes. It was registered to protect the name for a non-profit organization, the MAP Education and Research Foundation (a 501(c)(3) public charity). The Foundation uses the name in the context of educational initiatives, including student awards and academic programs. (For reference: https://www.mapedfund.org). The registration was undertaken on the advice of legal counsel after instances began occurring where others used the model’s name without attribution or appropriate context. The intent was to preserve the academic integrity of the model and ensure its use in charitable and educational settings, not for personal or commercial gain.
- I hope this clarifies the issues of concern for you and thank you again for your consideration and for your work maintaining the quality of Wikipedia.
- Sincerely,
- Michael A. Perelman

- Thank you again Liz for the question you raise and for providing an opportunity to reply. I was not writing about myself as I already have a wikipedia page for many years. What I am writing about is the relevance of the Sexual Tipping Point model which has been cited by dozens of professional peer reviewed citations. Describing the model and what its significance is and relevance to various topics conveyed within Wikipedia is what is the important information which needs to be included in Wikipedia. While it is true that I was its originator, there is no meed for that to be included in any of these postings if that is the preference of you or other Wikipedia editors. The reason it is trademarked is described in the above reply to another of your questions. Please advise on how you prefer that the entry read ad it is my goal to call attention to the fact that a major theoretical model that has already being used both for awarding deserving students through its foundation and educating clinicians in over 135 countries was not yet covered in Wikipedia. The omission was glaring as it has been cited by dozens of professional peer reviewed journal articles, book chapters and other encyclopedias. Thank you for reconsidering your questions and again I am fine if my own name is not mentioned at all in these sexual tipping point entries.
