Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. I would like to invite you to contribute to a discussion on whether or not "The Girl Who Died" and "The Woman Who Lived" and "Heaven Sent" and "Hell Bent" are two-parters. Over the course of 3 weeks and 2 discussions, few editors have contributed, so it would be a great help if you could take the time to contribute. Fan4Life (talk) 18:24, 5 June 2016 (UTC)

Ways to improve New South Wales Shadow Cabinet
[edit]Hello, DilatoryRevolution,
Thanks for creating New South Wales Shadow Cabinet! I edit here too, under the username Rosguill and it's nice to meet you :-)
I wanted to let you know that I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:-
The first sentence in the lead is worded in such a way that makes it unclear whether the Liberal/Nationals Coalition is the government or the shadow cabinet.
The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Rosguill}}

[edit]Rotten Tomatoe
[edit]I wanted you to know that your edit to the Halloween franchise was reverted. THe reason is that we typically do not use RT scores for films that pre-date RT (1998). The reason is that the reviews they have for those films are typically not accurate to how they were actually viewed at the time of their release. That's because the internet was still very young and most of those reviews were in physical form. What you tend to see for older films on RT is more recent reviews (typically within the last 10 to 15 years). That's fine in general, but not when comparing how a film was received at the time of its release, nor against newer films in the franchise. Addtionally, many of the films don't have enough reviews to be considered statistically significant, and when they do, you're comparing a film with 50 to 70 reviews to one with 300 reviews. THey aren't comparable. What needs to happen is more of a prose section that can provide context for how the series was viewed originally compared to how it is viewed today (as a whole). BIGNOLE (Contact me) 13:26, 3 August 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for getting in touch. Yeah, I definitely agree that the results are going to be skewed as a result of the later timing of the reviews. However, there is a lot of precedence for using the tables for pre-1998 films. Notably Star Wars, Alien, Jaws. Are you able to cite any policies that support the view that they are unacceptable? In my view, they are the best available source of data on the matter. Thanks --DilatoryRevolution (talk) 05:41, 4 August 2021 (UTC)
- The other pages really shouldn't be using RT and MetaCritic tables either (precedent doesn't mean correct, just means no one said anything), specifically because they lack context and they aren't comparable across later films. I mean Halloween was generally well received, but to say it has a 94% approval rating in 1978 is completely false (I'm not saying you say that, but it's the implication with the table). Just look at Jaws for example; none of the reviews pre-date 2000, and many are from 2020 and 2021. That's not accurate to what they felt in 1975...it's completely different people that grew up with Jaws as children.
- As for guideline (we don't do policies on content like that, we do guidelines), if you look at WP:MOSFILM#Critical reception it says: For older films, it is important to distinguish between contemporary critical reception (from reviews published around the time of initial release) and subsequent reception (from reviews made at later dates). From there, the guideline points you to the essay on aggregators over here that is used as a complementary piece to enhance the understanding of the guideline. You will see it covers both reviews pre-2000 as well as the understanding of statistical significance with enough reviews existing to have a percentage that would mean anything. [edit]Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution
[edit] Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Enlargement of NATO into Finland–NATO relations. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g.,
copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution
. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. DanCherek (talk) 03:15, 25 April 2022 (UTC)

{In order to move Opposition (Western Australia) to this title as per merger discussion
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 09:01, 27 August 2022 (UTC)

[edit]There is no need to post on my talk page every time you reply to an ongoing discussion: you don't need to "invite me" to participate in a discussion I've been participating in since the start, and it comes across as rather discourteous. The Drover's Wife (talk) 11:58, 7 September 2022 (UTC)
- This is a very unusual use of the word "discourteous". However, your sentiment is noted and I will refrain from posting on your talk page when you do not reply to comments refuting your reverting of my edits. However, I expect that you will not edit-war with reverts of any edits that I make when you are not participating in the discussion.--DilatoryRevolution (talk) 02:37, 8 September 2022 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, the longest I've ever taken to reply to one of your responses on that talk page is three hours. How entitled do you have to be to get mad and leave talk page messages, and to claim that that is "not participating in the discussion"? On 6 September, you posted on my talk page literally four minutes after your response on the article talk page. This is some of the most peculiar behaviour I've ever encountered on Wikipedia, which leads me to wonder if you're actively trolling. The Drover's Wife (talk) 04:50, 8 September 2022 (UTC)

[edit] Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give a page a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Opposition (Western Australia). This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.
In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. ~ Eejit43 (talk) 14:14, 27 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Eejit43: that's not exactly an accurate account of what happened. DilatoryRevolution moved Opposition (Western Australia) to Shadow ministry of Mia Davies because that page was mainly about the specific shadow ministry and not shadow ministries in general in WA. They then set up an excerpt of Shadow ministry of Mia Davies at Opposition (Western Australia) I assume so that its simpler when a new shadow ministry comes along (which will be happening soon as Mia Davies has resigned). They attributed the copied information in their edit summary. I do not see what the problem was. Steelkamp (talk) 16:02, 27 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Steelkamp Well per policy, copying text is not allowed as history is needed for attribution. I wouldn't describe it as an "excerpt" as the entirety was copied and only some content was removed. ~ Eejit43 (talk) 16:08, 27 January 2023 (UTC)

You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Onel5969 TT me 10:52, 29 March 2023 (UTC)
Your Closure of Nine Films And Television Merge Proposal
[edit]As an involved editor in this discussion, you shouldn't have closed the proposal per Wikipedia:RMCI.
Only an uninvolved editor should have closed the request, once the discussion had gained consensus. Would you be able to revert your move of the page and re-open the discussion? If not, I may request a move review instead. Thank you. Happily888 (talk) 05:02, 2 April 2023 (UTC)
- Wikipedia:RMCI applies to requested moves. The discussion in question was a requested merge. As per WP:MERGECLOSE, "Any user, including the user who first proposed the merger, may close the discussion". You can refute the move that took place but reopening a merger discussion would be redundant. --DilatoryRevolution (talk) 01:36, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
- However, the discussion was closed as a move of the article. WP:MERGECLOSE has a caveat which is that involved editors may only close discussions when
there has been no discussion or if there is unanimous consent to merge
, which is not the case here. Happily888 (talk) 03:43, 3 April 2023 (UTC)- There was no discussion on the proposal to move the page that was made in November 2022. Without evident disagreement, I presumed consensus. There was no discussion at all between November 2022 and March 2023, even after the move was made. Do you disagree with the outcome? It seems to broadly allign with your comments on the discussion. You made no attempt to discuss it for the five months that it was under active discussion. Are you just disappointed that what you view as the appropriate procedure was not followed? If that is the case, what would be the point in repoening the discussion? It's just going to sit open for another four months. If you would like, I could open up a new merger discussion between Nine Television and Nine Entertainment. Would that suit you? --DilatoryRevolution (talk) 04:29, 3 April 2023 (UTC)

Deletion discussion at 2026 South Australian state election
[edit]May I ask you to consider striking your comment at this AfD discussion, where you state "Attempting to bypass the process by moving the page, or cutting and pasting it into a new mainspace article, may lead to the page being moved back into draftspace again, speedy-deleted or listed for AFD, and repeated attempts may even lead to you being temporarily or permanently blocked from editing Wikipedia due to disruption."
AfC has never been an obligatory process. It was set up in order to allow unregistered and unconfirmed users to create articles, when direct creation in mainspace was made technically impossible for them. Any confirmed editor can choose to exit the AfC process whenever they want. Yes, it can be unwise to bypass it; the editor loses the benefits that AfC review can bring, and attracts attention to their possible desire not to be reviewed. But it is absolutely not grounds for being blocked, or even speedy deletion; to threaten an editor with permanent blocking for bypassing AfC is therefore inappropriate. The only real penalty for bypassing AfC is that the article may be sent to AfD by the new page patrol reviewers with a disgruntled comment about how it got to mainspace. There are attribution/copyright issues if an editor other than the original creator of the article does a copy-paste out of draft space into main space as the history is lost, but we should probably assume good faith in a situation like this, that the editor was probably unaware of what cut-and-paste moves do to the article's history. Elemimele (talk) 18:41, 22 April 2023 (UTC)
- The bold element of my comment is a direct quote from WP:AFC. It is not a threat of blocking. The appropriate place to refute my interpretation of WP:AFC is Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2026 South Australian state election. --DilatoryRevolution (talk) 20:35, 22 April 2023 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks for pointing out where you got the text from. It was added by one editor about a year ago, asserting that AfC has more teeth than it should. I have raised this at the AfC talk page. In the end, it is down to the wider Wikipedia community to decide what is acceptable in articles. AfC is not the gate-keeper. That's down to the new page patrol, and even they don't actually make a decision. They do not delete. They send to AfD. It is community consensus, exercised via AfD, that ultimately decides whether an article is acceptable, and therefore it's essential that everyone has a route to get their article discussed at AfD - without getting blocked.
