Question from the DaSeashel

Hey Abo Yemen. I saw your message on my talk feed, and while I understand the importance of sources in upkeeping this great resource, I want to point out the fact that while I lack sources handy on me right now, it is a fact of history that Imru' al-Qays al-Kindi was the nephew of Abu Layla, and that both were lovers of women and drink. I believe its important to list that on their pages, and I am sure you feel the same. If you have any sources please add them. I also wanted to ask, can I use a TV show as a source for this information? (Al-Zeer Salem). I completely understand if this is against wiki guidelines, just wanted to make sure, as in all honesty a TV source with 250 million views is probably just as reliable as a text from the 13th century on a tale that occurred in the 500's AD. Thanks in advance! God bless DaSeashell (talk) 11:47, 5 August 2025 (UTC)

Also, my latest edit which was reverted is literally me grabbing information from the Arabic version for Imru' al-Qays, the wiki article for Kindah, (very relevant), and other sections of the same page and using that info to fix the geneology. Lmfao, the page itself says his father ate bitter fruits (Centaurea calcitrapa) but the geneology writes it as if it was his great grandfather, which doesn't align with the writings of Ibn Asakir in "History of Dimashq". Why has it been reverted? Sometimes, information can be fact checked by moderators instead of automatically deleted. Its literally information others wrote that I wrote again for ease of reading brother come on. Also, beautiful pfp about Filasteen. DaSeashell (talk) 11:54, 5 August 2025 (UTC)
@DaSeashell: Per our Wikipedia:Verifiability policy, you need to provide a source for every statement that you add to any article. Al-Zeer Salem is in no way a reliable source, and the amount of views that show received is irrelevant. So, sorry, but you'll need to go searching for sources for every statement you add here. FWIW, the we have nothing to do with the Arabic wiki. Different language versions of the same topic aren't supposed to be a translation of a common article, plus the Arabic wiki has a lower standard for Wikipedia:Reliable sources. You can cite Ibn Asakir's book if you wish, but newer scholarship is preferred (see, WP:AGE MATTERS) 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 12:02, 5 August 2025 (UTC)
Thank you for your reply. But as I mentioned, some changes I added were direct copies from the Kindah and Imru' al-Qays ENGLISH article, so why were they deleted? Sorry I am still new to all of this. DaSeashell (talk) 12:05, 5 August 2025 (UTC)
Either you forgot to copy the citations from those articles, or that text wasn't sourced in the first place (in that case, it should be also removed from the other articles too 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 12:09, 5 August 2025 (UTC)
Makes sense. When I have time later this week I will check to see any citations I forgot to copy. DaSeashell (talk) 04:11, 7 August 2025 (UTC)
@DaSeashell Good luck and happy editing! 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 06:24, 7 August 2025 (UTC)
Thank you. God bless! DaSeashell (talk) 12:45, 9 August 2025 (UTC)
And, personally, a 250m view show and one of the most important media works in Levantine history is as factual than a random parchment dug up in 1998 written by an otherwise unknown Iraqi or Egyptian writer with Albanian or Persian descent who lived in the 13th century writing on a topic that passed eight hundred years before he was born.
That is to say, both are bs so we shouldn't don't pick and choose, we should either use both or neither. And if we were to go with neither, most of our information on pre-Islamic Arabia and by extension most of the Imru' al-Qays article would be deleted. Just food for thought, not trying to argue here my yamani brother just voicing my opinion. Btw, where are you from in Yemen? DaSeashell (talk) 12:09, 5 August 2025 (UTC)
In reply to the first paragraph, nothing mentioned in it counts as a reliable source. You need to use sources written by people with the appropriate academic background. You can access that stuff using Wikipedia:The Wikipedia Library, once you meet its requirements. As for the last part, my user page has all the info about me that I chose to disclose :) 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 12:12, 5 August 2025 (UTC)

Question from 96sumynona (00:10, 13 August 2025)

hi so im only here from a random tiktok from a guy named Declan Shinnick, who asked someone to make a Wikipedia page about him.. so like.. how do I do that? and how much information is needed to make a Wikipedia page about a person? --96sumynona (talk) 00:10, 13 August 2025 (UTC)

Hello @96sumynona, welcome to Wikipedia! To create Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons, you must ensure that the subject meets wikipedia's WP:General notability guidelines, which is, unfortunately, something that Shinnick doesn't meet. 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 08:09, 13 August 2025 (UTC)

I believe that the closure of this discussion was a pile-on supervote and was not closed properly. While I might have been satisfied if the keep closure was done after reasonably considering the policy based arguments on either side, you did not even acknowledge the arguments of the people !voting Draftify or why WP:SUSTAINED was ignored here in your closing explanation. Please reopen it and allow an admin to close it or I will consider it a WP:BADNAC supervote and have to dispute it. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 19:30, 13 August 2025 (UTC)

@Zxcvbnm the consensus in that discussion was that the topic had sustained notability. Not a single person voted for the article's deletion, other than an IP, whose reasoning was "This is only a term used by a couple terminally online children". If you're up for challenging community consensus then feel free to dispute the closure 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 19:44, 13 August 2025 (UTC)
Calling it a SNOW keep is simply false as there are multiple !votes for draftification that have yet to even be acknowledged by you. As I said previously, AfD is not a vote and the actual substance of the arguments has to be considered. There is zero evidence that was the case in your closure summary. I would like your opinion of why those draftify arguments were not considered or invalid. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 19:49, 13 August 2025 (UTC)
@Zxcvbnm only one (Pokelego999) out of the four editors called for draftification by citing policy (we aren't going to draftify an article because only one person voted for so). BD2412's opinion that it has yet to sustain coverage is clearly not shared by the editors of that AfD. Archrogue was more of giving advice for fixing the article than a reason for draftification. Wackistan's doesn't explain why "sourcing for mentions of studies is inadequate", and feels that the some paragraphs of the article are AI generated/written like an essay. No one shared their feelings 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 20:00, 13 August 2025 (UTC)
again, if you disagree, feel free to challenge the closure 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 20:01, 13 August 2025 (UTC)
I'd agree that the closing statement isn't particularly accurate, even though I'd also agree with the overall discussion outcome of keep. I don't think it's fair to call it a WP:SNOW situation when there's reasoned disagreement calling for draftification, and it doesn't really seem like a WP:HEY situation either given that the improvements made to the article during the discussion didn't really enter into the AfD discussion itself. The crux of the debate seems more to have been between assertions of WP:TOOSOON and WP:TOOSOONDEL, with keep !voters sometimes also asserting that they believe WP:GNG to be amply met and that this is an overriding concern. signed, Rosguill talk 19:44, 13 August 2025 (UTC)

@Sshatila Ah. The article currently reads like a cv and wont make it to mainspace anytime soon. It needs to be rewritten in an encyclopedic tone, using reliable secondary sources. The article needs to follow the Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons policy, and, most importantly, you'll need to prove that he passes the Wikipedia:General notability guidelines 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 09:12, 18 August 2025 (UTC)

@Urban Synergy Mentoring - Hello Victoria, I've sent you a message in your talk page to change your username since it is against Wikipedia's policies. As for the article, you'll need to prove that your organization meets Wikipedia's guidelines of Notability for organizations and companies. Once it meets that, you can press the blue "Submit for review" button on the banner on your draft so that it can be reviewed by a reviewer, although this might take some time. Hope that this helps. Hello, Abo Yemen. This message concerns the Articles for Creation submission or draft page you started, "History of Yemen under the British".

If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission, and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you read this, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions here. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the draft so you can continue to work on it.

Reliable source

I am providing a reliable source, whereas that part of the text is unsourced or 'supported' by randomly added sources (such as a neuroscience encyclopedia, a book on poetry, and one in Spanish about jurisprudence; all of which have nothing to do with the topic). And there are several mistakes. 78.210.108.151 (talk) 18:50, 21 August 2025 (UTC)

𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵), I am referring to the reverts of my adjustments at Somaliland campaign because of a lack of a reliable source, but I am the one I adding a source on this Somali campaign. It's the current text (1905-1920 period) that actually lacks sources or has sources that have nothing to do with the topic. Can you undo the revert, i think you did it automatically. 78.210.108.151 (talk) 19:12, 21 August 2025 (UTC)

WikiCup 2025 September newsletter

The fourth round of the 2025 WikiCup ended on 29 August. The penultimate round saw three contestants score more than 800 points:

Everyone who competed in Round 4 will advance to Round 5 unless they have withdrawn. This table shows all competitors who have received tournament points so far, while the full scores for Round 4 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 9 featured articles, 12 featured lists, 98 good articles, 9 good topic articles, more than 150 reviews, nearly 100 did you know articles, and 18 in the news articles.

In advance of the fifth and final round, the judges would like to thank every contestant for their hard work. As a reminder, any content promoted after 29 August but before the start of Round 5 can be claimed in Round 5. In addition, note that Round 5 will end on 31 October at 23:59 UTC. Awards at the end of Round 5 will be distributed based on who has the most tournament points over all five rounds, and special awards will be distributed based on high performance in particular areas of content creation (e.g., most featured articles in a single round).

Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. hi, I just edited Wiki's page on universities and slavery by including a small section on Wake Forest. How do I include Wake Forest University in the index or table of contents or whatever you call the list on the left that shows the outline of the universities covered? Joseph --Joseph A Soares (talk) 19:17, 5 September 2025 (UTC)

Thanks, but now I can't find the section on Wake Forest that I added. Do you know how I can find it? Joseph A Soares (talk) 21:14, 5 September 2025 (UTC)
Your edit seems to have been reverted by @Magnolia677 because you've added wrongly formatted citations and because Wikipedia is not written in the first person pov. Help:Referencing for beginners and Wikipedia:WikiVoice should be good guides for fixing the text you've added 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 07:17, 6 September 2025 (UTC)
Thanks for helping me out, but my text wasn't written in the first person. I never use any first person pronouns. I'm writing about events in which I play a role but the prose are all neutral.
And on the citations, I inserted weblinks as Wiki instructed.
How can I fix this if I cannot find my original text? Joseph A Soares (talk) 14:01, 6 September 2025 (UTC)
I must have misunderstood it as being first person when I read "In 2019, sociology students in Professor Joseph Soares' social memory class uncovered". Anyway, Wikipedia does not report on things that occur in a classroom. Also, YouTube is generally not a reliable source. Also, not everything that has a source is encyclopedic, because Wikipedia is not a newspaper. Please see WP:NOT, WP:VNOT, and WP:EL. Magnolia677 (talk) 14:35, 6 September 2025 (UTC)
Everything I wrote there, including the fact that it took research by a group of students to unearth Wake's roots in enslavement, is documented at Wake and can be seen via weblinks I posted. The YouTube version was created because it was easier for people to find, but is shows exactly what is archived at: https://wakespace.lib.wfu.edu/handle/10339/110786
Why isn't Wake's uncovering of its roots in enslavement and what is being done about that Wiki worthy when the same news on Georgetown and other universities is included on Wiki? Joseph A Soares (talk) 15:39, 6 September 2025 (UTC)
How can I fix this if I cannot find my original text?
@Joseph A Soares Your edits are archived in the article's history tab 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 16:03, 6 September 2025 (UTC)
I hope the other guy can see this, but this is the description on Wake's library archival page where the 7 commemorations of Wake's enslaved are provided in full, as videos. But this is the description given: description
As an outgrowth of the course taught by Dr. Joseph Soares, Sociology 391: Social Memories: Nazi Holocaust and US Civil War, his students focused the university's attention on an important part of Wake Forest University history previously ignored--namely, the selling of enslaved persons (as part of the Blount estate, link: https://wakespace.lib.wfu.edu/handle/10339/93888) on May 7th, 1860 to financially support Wake Forest. This video captures students from this course, supported by the Department of Sociology and School of Divinity, who commemorated this part of WFU history.
So stating the fact that it took my students for this to be unearthed is part of the story worth sharing via Wiki. If that's not legitimate, then I won't waste your or my time anymore on this. Joseph A Soares (talk) 16:27, 6 September 2025 (UTC)
The YouTube video of some guy talking needs sources to support the content. Magnolia677 (talk) 16:30, 6 September 2025 (UTC)
I apologize for thinking that the president of Wake Forest speaking at Founder's Day Convocation was enough to legitimize the content. Or that videos from Wake's library that display each of the seven commemorations of Wake's enslaved would be enough. What would you want me to post to support those facts? Another Wake Forest weblink that reports on those events? Do you look at something before you reject it? Joseph A Soares (talk) 17:37, 6 September 2025 (UTC)

AfC review request: Draft:Mamdouh Salem Baajajah

Hello Abo Yemen,

I’ve been working on a draft titled Draft:Mamdouh Salem Baajajah (discussion page: [[1]]).

I would greatly appreciate it if you could review the draft for Articles for Creation, and if it meets the notability and sourcing requirements and also tied to the [Saudi Arabia|WikiProject Saudi Arabia] initiative, help move it to the mainspace.

Thank you very much for your time and assistance!

Best regards, Maisa Khudair (talk) 06:23, 9 September 2025 (UTC)

المؤتمر الأول الحزب الاشتراكي اليمني. أكتوبر ١٩٧٨

My Arabic is poor, but I found the congress documents for the 1st YSP Congress: https://annas-archive.org/md5/76d2640e89a68c7f43754c8c6c5e80de (you need to download it: I wish I could send you an attachment, but the WP e-mail option does not allow it). In that database, you have the congress documents of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd congresses of the YSP.

IN either case, from page ۳۷۱ to ۳۷۷, one has the entire leadership lineup elected at the 1st YSP Congress. I can create the pages and infoboxes, but could you double-check the translations when the pages have been created? Its nice to establish these articles: then we get articles on the ruling institutions and who governed the party-state. --TheUzbek (talk) 09:47, 8 August 2025 (UTC)

Thank you so very much! :) Could you also translate the information on the Secretariat and the Auditing Committee? (you do not need to do it now).
I would suggest you to look up information on the PDRY on babel.hathitrust.org: it contains official CIA, State Department etc. analysis on the world. It takes time, and its not that easy to navigate through. However, you can find gold. For example, in this link #1 - Problems of communism v.35 1986. - Full View | HathiTrust Digital Library, if you search "Yemen" within you will find an analysis of the failed 1986 coup attempt (that was a real coup), how the Soviets reacted and the fact that Ali Nasir Muhammad was defended by communist Ethiopia. But again, its a hazzle to actually use it. It takes time to dig, but you will find gold there. TheUzbek (talk) 11:18, 8 August 2025 (UTC)

I would try to find the charter of the NF; the logo is probably described there. But yes, weird that the article doesn't have a logo or anything in the infobox. TheUzbek (talk) 14:41, 8 August 2025 (UTC)
Here: The National Charter: Approved at the First Conference of the National Front for the Liberation of Occupied South Yemen held between 22-25 June 1965 - Anna's Archive Same as the last one, you need to download it. [7] What do you know about the fourth congress of the YSP; was it held both in 1998 and 2000? What does the banner in the picture say? What was the date of (what I believe to be) the second convening of the 4th congress in 2000? TheUzbek (talk) 09:33, 10 August 2025 (UTC)
@TheUzbek Do you want to write about the 4th congress of the YSP or the NF first? Anw I'm going to ask a YSP leader friend of mine about that congress, so send me all the question you want me to ask him. As for the banner, it says in Arabic: من اجل مصلحة وطنية وبناء دولة النظام والقانون والمؤسسات وتحقيق الديمقراطية والعدالة الاجتماعية, lit.'For the sake of national interest, building a state of law, order, and institutions, and achieving democracy and social equity'. This is the slogan of the congress 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 09:54, 10 August 2025 (UTC)
also fwiw that image is under public domain per yemeni law as it is taken more than 20 years ago 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 09:54, 10 August 2025 (UTC)
But, isn't there a date there? It says 2000 and 30 above the slogan: I am guessing that is the date, right?
No need, but I think an article on "Congress of the Yemeni Socialist Party" (and that article should be created) should include the congresses of the NF. Same with the YSP general secretary page. It should include leaders of the predecessor parties (at least the NF). This has also been done at general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea. Generally, and not very surprisingly, the YSP is missing many essential articles.
As for the YSP post-1990 is that of any interest? As a Yemenite, does the YSP have a following this day? I am no Middle East expert but it seems like all the secular movements that were big in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s have all either collapsed or become corrupt since they are unable (or unwilling) to transfer power (as Brezhnev's USSR). Their webpage at least leaves alot to be desired, and usually a bad webpage in this day and age is a sign. TheUzbek (talk) 15:03, 10 August 2025 (UTC)
oh, the date is "from 30 August - 1 September 2000"
I'd be more than happy to help with this stuff, since it is what I'm currently working on
YSP post-1990 is a really long time period. The YSP participated in multiple elections and got some seats as a main opposition party alongsides al-Islah, but as of now they only have 8 seats. There is a really small pro-YSP demographic, mostly based in the main cities of Taiz, Aden, Sanaa, and Mukalla. Idk much about the corruption inside the party though 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 15:14, 10 August 2025 (UTC)
I don't know either about "corruption", but the fact is that the Arab secularist failed and the Arab public went on to support Islamists in their place. But I am only guessing. Are you a YSP supporter? TheUzbek (talk) 16:09, 10 August 2025 (UTC)
Technically, yes, although I dont support whatever they're doing atm (they're pretty much doing nothing other than wait for the war to end) 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 16:14, 10 August 2025 (UTC)
Interesting! :) What is the YSP's ideology today? Social democracy/democratic socialism, or is it still Marxism?
Ah, I see.. But do they have a choice? Who would support arming them? If they were a bigger player, maybe the Russians or the Chinese could, but who else? I've noticed over the years that they certainly have a pro-China bent as this statement shows: "Mohammed Almekhlafi, deputy general secretary of the Yemeni Socialist Party, said people's democracy in China ensures that every citizen fully enjoys political, economic, social and cultural rights."
Interesting, I am not finished looking at the Collective Move, but will focus on establishing and expanding basic pages for South Yemeni politics: party leader, congresses, central committee, etc. I am also trying to scrape together a list of assistant general secretaries, so if you have an overview of some of them, please give me a heads up. TheUzbek (talk) 18:18, 10 August 2025 (UTC)
What is the YSP's ideology today?
According to the YSP leader guy ik, he told me that the party's main ideology is diacritic socialism (or something like that, I'll need to ask him again) with the method of achieving socialism thru socialist democracy. I dont think that the party is united under a single ideology, it seems like it is as factioned as the NF was in the late 60s.
I appreciate the help comerade, and ill be sure to share everything I have 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 18:55, 10 August 2025 (UTC)
Indeed, reading the history of the YSP and the PDRY is rather depressing. They might not have succeeded anyhow, but they really made it more difficult for themselves. And the 1986 episode is rather insane. Anyhow, thanks for the information. I am more or less finished with the Secretary-General of the Yemeni Socialist Party for now. The sources for the remaining guys, I think, will be easy to find. The only thing I can't Google my way to is the exact date for when Ali Saleh Obad was elected general secretary in 1994. It's probably in an Arabic book I cannot read. Anyhow, the work continues! TheUzbek (talk) 19:30, 10 August 2025 (UTC)
yeah the events of '86 were very much the end of the progressive Yemen dream. Ill try to look for the date of when Obad was elected 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 19:37, 10 August 2025 (UTC)

I also did not discuss his reverts with this person because he had never discussed it with me in previous cases, simply deleting the content, leading to my blocking and not incurring any punishment, although as it is written in the template, "If all you've done is reverted-without-talk, you may find yourself facing a block too" Algirr (talk) 18:02, 9 September 2025 (UTC)

Regarding int the infobox, in that case of an organization that (sadly and unfortunately) is still active, it is better to kept it updated only including the only current active participants, besides the article already has written about the now defuct members, seems it has no use to still place it on the infobox. CheAjlt (talk) 19:07, 1 October 2025 (UTC)

Ok, I've reverted the see also stuff since none of the flags that you've added look similar to the flag of Syria, idrc about the link to the flag of Yemen article. As for the Axis of Resistance infobox, I think that Ba'athist Syria was a very notable member of the informal pact and should stay in there 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 19:11, 1 October 2025 (UTC)
Well, it was nice to talk with someone who also deeply believes that Bashar al-Assad should be extradited and tried in court for his crimes against humanity. I may also go as far to say that Bashar al-Assad (just like Nicolae Ceaușescu) shall also deserve the sentence of death penalty, something that most of my friends and acquaintances also agrees with me. Nice to talk with you too! 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 02:24, 2 October 2025 (UTC)

Vertical flag in the coat of arms of Palestine

When the flag of Palestine is turned vertically, the topmost color of the flag - in this case black - should be placed on the left, not the right (when viewed from the front). However, in the coat of arms of Palestine, the flag is presented against this guideline, unlike e.g. the flag of Egypt in the coat of arms of Egypt.

The flag of Palestine also has a red triangle from the left, so when we transform the flag to become vertical, we place the tip of the triangle vertically downwards from the top, so the black colour is placed on the right, and the green colour is on the left. If the Black has to be on the left and the green on the right, that will mean that the red triangle will be at the bottom of the shield, and the tip of the triangle would be facing upwards, which is against the official description of the flag.
The red triangle has to be at the top of the shield, facing vertically downwards, which must mean that the black is on the right and the green is on the left. Dylam X (talk) 14:46, 13 October 2025 (UTC)

You keep forgetting that the flag has a Red Triangle from the left, so when the flag is made vertical, that red triangle becomes at the top of the flag and it's facing downwards. This would mean that the black is on the right and the green is on the left, because when the flag is horizontal, the triangle is on the left and facing the right, the black is at the top and the green is at the bottom.
Countries like Jordan, Sudan, Kuwait, The UAE, and Oman have the same layout when the flag when displayed vertically. Dylam X (talk) 19:51, 13 October 2025 (UTC)
I must admit, that You are right. However, the explanation has not to do with the triangle, look at the flag of Czechia and its vertical version. The real explanation is:
In contrast to European practice, the black (top) stripe is to the "sinister" (observer's right). This is because in the Arab culture reading from right to left: Flags Of The World, Palestine, vertical version

On 14 October 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Corrective Move, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the 1969 Corrective Move (commemorative stamp pictured) transformed South Yemen into a communist state? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Corrective Move. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Corrective Move), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to nominate it.

I just saw your article on the main page. Amazing work, and interesting topic too! 🐔 Chicdat  Bawk to me! 11:38, 14 October 2025 (UTC)
Thank you so much @Chicdat! That article wouldn't have made it to GA this quickly if it weren't for your comment on ANI, where you said something along the lines of me going to have a few GAs under my belt by the end of this year. I felt so motivated by that comment, and I didn't want to disappoint you lol. I really appreciate this barnstar and your comment 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 15:30, 14 October 2025 (UTC)
Thanks! I remember that ANI with the weird aspersions cast against you. No one can read that article and claim you have a political bias – all the facts are presented neutrally. As an aside with that article, I see there are a lot of redlinks: have you checked on the Arabic Wikipedia or another language to see if there are corresponding articles there? You could replace the redlinks with interlanguage links to those articles, which allows readers to view something about those things. Just a suggestion, obviously doesn't count if there aren't any articles. Anyway, thanks for your reply, and hope you keep writing! 🐔 Chicdat  Bawk to me! 21:15, 14 October 2025 (UTC)
@Chicdat Sadly there are no arabic versions of those articles. Coverage of articles related to Modern Yemeni history on both the english and arabic wikipedias is really bad. There’s a whole mini civil war that happened in South Yemen in 1968 but there is no article about it. A short-lived separatist “People’s Democratic Republic of Hadhramaut” was a thing because back when South Yemen was ruled by the right wing faction of the NF, the left wing who were based in Hadhramaut didn’t like the policies of the right, but again, we dont have an article about it. The People’s Defense Forces of South Yemen doesn’t have an article. And the list goes on. Ill try my best to continue my work here :) 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 02:13, 15 October 2025 (UTC)
See, that's why we're lucky we have editors from underrepresented countries. Every GA is a piece of knowledge made infinitely more accessible, whether it's a critical event in the history of Yemen or a random hurricane in 2021. 🐔 Chicdat  Bawk to me! 11:27, 15 October 2025 (UTC)

DCWC closing update

Two weeks ago, the 2025 Developing Countries WikiContest came to a close! After three months of stiff competition at the top of the leaderboard, we have our winners. Bronze Belt Buckle – 3rd place vigilantcosmicpenguin (submissions), continuing his work on covering abortion in Africa, comes in third with 692 points. Silver Belt Buckle – 2nd place simongraham (submissions) comes in second with 763 points, largely from a slew of good articles about jumping spiders. And returning to the podium for the second year in a row, Gold Belt Buckle – 1st place Bosnia and Herzegovina BeanieFan11 (submissions) takes the Gold Belt Buckle with a mind-boggling 946 points from his series of articles on sportpersons. Congratulations to our winners!

Amazingly, the award for the most countries covered goes to both Bosnia and Herzegovina BeanieFan11 (submissions) and simongraham (submissions), who each submitted articles under 30 flags! Bosnia and Herzegovina BeanieFan11 (submissions) also wins for writing the most quality articles (16 good articles). For submitting 16 articles related to El Salvador, El Salvador PizzaKing13 (submissions) wins the award for most submissions under one country. The award for most submissions related to women goes to both Spookyaki (submissions) (7 biographies about women) and vigilantcosmicpenguin (submissions) (21 related articles). And for the second year, simongraham (submissions) wins for the most reviews, having submitted 21!

Among the participants' contributions were 2 FAs, 5 FLs, 124 GAs, and an uncounted number of DYKs, ITNs, and reviews of every kind! Regardless of your level of participation, every contestant can be proud to have contributed towards a major step in countering the systemic bias on Wikipedia. Every year, millions of readers and editors around the globe use Wikipedia to educate themselves and communicate with others about parts of the world that often receive less attention than they deserve. Thank you for participating with us in the contest and contributing to this effort. The DCWC will return next year, and we look forward to seeing you contribute again! However, before that...

We need your feedback! Join the conversation on the talk page to discuss your reflections on the contest (even if you didn't participate!) and help us make it better.

Discussion regarding Southern Giants Brigades article

Hello Abo Yemen,

I noticed that you reverted my recent edit to the Southern Giants Brigades page using RedWarn. I completely understand your caution toward new editors. However, my edit aimed to correct factual inaccuracies in the “History” section. The previous version described the northern Giants Forces, which were a different formation. The Southern Giants Brigades article now includes reliable English and Arabic references confirming its distinction and Southern identity, including ACLED, Sky News Arabia, Al-Omana Net, the group’s official website, and even the Arabic Wikipedia article about the northern formation (linked here for clarity: https://ar.wikipedia.org/wiki/قوات_العمالقة_(اليمن)).

My goal was to improve accuracy. I’d be very happy to collaborate on wording or sourcing to ensure everything meets Wikipedia’s neutrality standards.

Thank you.

Dontmesswithhistory (talk) 11:41, 25 October 2025 (UTC)

There’s no such thing as the “northern giants brigades” 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 12:17, 25 October 2025 (UTC)
Thank you for your comment. The section we corrected referred to the older Giants Brigades (قوات العمالقة) that originated within the former North Yemeni military in the 1970s, commanded by Abdullah Alhamdi. This formation is described here: https://ar.wikipedia.org/wiki/قوات_العمالقة_(اليمن)
It is not related to the modern ألوية العمالقة الجنوبية (Southern Giants Brigades), which were established decades later and identify primarily as southern under the Joint Forces Command. The edit simply aimed to prevent confusion between these two distinct entities and to ensure accuracy based on reliable sources.
Best regards,
Dontmesswithhistory (talk) 12:38, 25 October 2025 (UTC)
@Dontmesswithhistory I think that the confusion here is that the arabic article wronly links to the southern giants brigades article in english. I have fixed it 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 14:10, 26 October 2025 (UTC)

Where did your user page go?

I remember you having a user page. Where did it go? KashanAbbas (talk) 09:18, 22 October 2025 (UTC)

Hi KashanAbbas, Abo Yemen has requested to delete their user page. IDK why though ~Rafael (He, him) • talkguestbookprojects 03:37, 23 October 2025 (UTC)
From what I can tell (from his previous user page and current talk page), the guy is studying in collage and has a lot of tress on him as of current. He also isn't too keen on stuff which happened in Gaza (e.g stuff, stuff, stuff, stuff). KashanAbbas (talk) 03:45, 23 October 2025 (UTC)
I g7'd it. It was too revealing, and I kinda got bored with it 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 08:04, 23 October 2025 (UTC)
I liked it, and I always wanted to ask you how you could be sympathetic to South Yemen and negative towards Kemalism. Many things I, as a Westerner, do not understand :) In either case, its good that you have not entirely disappeared :) We need you here! @TheUzbek Thanks! I'm still here, and I'm still editing the same topics that I worked on. Also, don't worry, I'm very addicted to this website for me to simply place a {{retired}} template and leave lol. That is lovely to hear! :)
Question: Do you have access to the Yemeni Socialist Party's rulebook? I am currently implementing the finishing touches on a draft journal article on political development, reproduction, decay and displacement in communist states. The reason I ask is that the YSP, I believe (we will see if my modelling agrees), represents a case in which the internal organisational structure of both the state and the party never even reached the level of institutional reproduction. From what I gathered, Ali Salem al-Beidh signed an agreement on unification with North Yemen without the YSP Politburo's approval (and they just accepted it). TheUzbek (talk) 06:12, 24 October 2025 (UTC)
@TheUzbek AFAIK the rule book of the YSP is known as the "Internal System of the YSP" and it was written during the Fifth General Conference of the party. You can find it on https://althawry.net/?page_id=4741
I've also asked a member of the YSP that I know if there is any document other than this one that I am not aware of its existance just to be sure and I am waiting for his responce 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 11:48, 24 October 2025 (UTC)
@TheUzbek I’ve emailed you the documents the YSP guy sent me. They’re all in Arabic lol, but are in a text format so it’ll be much more easier to machine translate. If you feel that a part of the machine translation is wrong or incomprehensible, Ill be more than happy to translate that part for you. Good luck with your research, the YSP guy wants to read your article too lol. Best, 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 07:02, 29 October 2025 (UTC)
